Managed to lose 2.5lb since Mon (still in the early stages, I know it gets harder!). Will prob weigh again on Mon ...

puffoeufnog · 27/12/2005 14:55

Well done Franch !

I am getting back to "normal" eating today. Braved the scales and have put on 2lbs which I expected but it was all yummy !

The gym is open today so I will be going tonight.

I feel so much better than I did last Christmas - I had been doing GI for 4 months then and had lost weight but still a large size 20.

This Christmas I have been wearing size 14 and it feels great .

When I get into a 12 there will be some serious celebrations!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone lurking on this thread who needs to lose has wor

puffoeufnog · 27/12/2005 15:05

ooh, part of my post disappeared!!!!!

try again:

To anyone reading this who needs/wants to lose a lot of weight - please know it can be done , but you need to be patient with yourself and just keep plugging away at it!

I have lost 7 stone - it has taken me 18 months to get to this point, but boy it is worth it.

The trick is to take a long term view - it took 5 months before anyone really noticed I was losing anything but gradually I got more and more comments about how well I looked. Now people who haven't seen me in a while are astonished - one of my sister's friends who I met 2 or 3 times didn't recognise me at all!

Good luck to anyone planning to embark on a serious weight loss programme next year - don't make it a New Year resolution though - just do it when you feel ready .

tamba · 27/12/2005 15:14

I want to lose another 2 stone (have lost 3 alreasdy but that was due to illness rather than diet )

I am loving being a small 14 (I just had to write small lol) and my ideal figure would be Bridget Jones, so I have to lose another 2 stone as in the film she is 9st something

I dont know anything about the GI diet though so dont know if it is for me. Where can I find out more?

Huge congrats Puff - you are my inspiration!

puffoeufnog · 27/12/2005 15:38

Aww thanks Tamba!

I'll try to post some GI diet info this evening.

sarochka · 27/12/2005 18:54

hi everyone! I have been lurking on and off on this post and have decided that this is the inspiration I need so could I come and join in ? I put on alot of weight with dd who is 4 in January and am still 4.5 stone over weight. Would like no 2 and have a feeling that need to shift this first. Am a full time working mum too so always on the go. Like the sound of GI and got some of the books for Christmas.

puffoeufnog · 27/12/2005 19:09

Welcome sarochka .

I'll probably start a fresh thread on Jan 2nd - will keep this one going until New Year.

Saker · 27/12/2005 21:44

Sorry didn't check in on Christmas eve - too busy . Overall I managed to lose a pound over the whole period so that was pretty hopeless although I didn't try very hard for the last bit. I am still pleased because I am finishing this year a stone lighter than I finished last year but in truth my weight has stayed approximately the same since the summer so I need a renewed effort. I am away over New Year so will restart in earnest then.

Puff you are an inspiration! Your family must be so proud of you .

Saker · 27/12/2005 21:52

I have been looking at a couple of books about GL diet. One by Nigel Denby looks pretty similar to GI really, just watching your portion sizes slightly differently. The other is by Patrick Holford and seems quite radically different. He reckons you should only have a glycaemic load of 40 total per day, 10 for each meal and 5 for each of 2 snacks. Bear in mind that an apple has a GL of 6 and I have been quite accustomed to eating two apples for dessert . It does limit the amount of fruit really because most is relatively high GL and I have been used to filling up on fruit. He is also really insistent that you should cut out caffeine totally which I have to be honest and say I have never done (although I know the Rick Gallop books advise it too) - did you give up caffeine Melbob, Puff? I only drink tea not coffee but I like it strong .

Anyway given that my last few weeks of GI have not been very successful I might try this for a change and see if it makes any difference. (Oh and he also suggests taking various supplements which I am not so keen on but I might just ignore that bit.)

puffoeufnog · 27/12/2005 22:39

Sounds interesting Saker - I might buy a GL diet book to look at these differences. I eat a lot of fruit too, esp apples.

I gave up coffee but can't face giving up tea - have about 4 cups a day.

puffoeufnog · 27/12/2005 22:43

btw tamba, I've posted some basic info on another thread - "GI Diet the rules"

puffoeufnog · 27/12/2005 22:53

Saker - I missed the bit about you being a stone lighter than the same time last year - that's brill

franch · 28/12/2005 15:41

Weighed myself again on Boxing Day and had put 3lb back on - didn't know one meal (plus several chocolates) could do that to you!! Since then have been out and about the whole time with yummy food in abundance so have tried to be moderate but have slipped in quite a few treats. Back home today so getting back on track hopefully .....

puffoeufnog · 28/12/2005 15:42

you will lose it again franch

franch · 28/12/2005 17:04

melbob · 30/12/2005 13:09
