Thanks both yes it does. Onwards and downwards!

puff · 05/12/2005 09:23

Hi all

have lost a pound this week, 9lbs since the start of the thread. Will I get to 14lbs before Christmas? 5lbs in 3 weeks is possible, but the wintery weather is making me hungry!

How is everyone else doing?

Monkeytrousers - have you started?

My sister has been following the GI diet for a couple of months and has lost 20lbs. She is thrilled - down to just under 8 stone now - sounds very thin, but she is much shorter than me and very daintily built!

Bad report this week I'm afraid. After weighing myself on Saturday morning and finding myself a pound heavier I was fed up with the diet, so indulged in an Indian takeaway and icecream on Saturday night. Not surprisingly I am now 1.5lbs heavier than last week .

This diet is really not going well for me at the minute. I feel like I have been sticking to it reasonably well with the exception of Saturday night and I have lost nothing for the last 4 weeks, and only a total of 2lbs since I started back on it. Two explanations - first I am a terrible picker and maybe I am just eating loads more than I think. Second my metabolism has just adjusted to cope with the reduced calories. Anyway not sure what to do next, I can't see I am going to realistically lose much before Christmas now as I have a couple of meals out coming up but I will try and stick with it the rest of the time and maintain. I have ordered the GL book from the library so maybe that will give me a fresh perspective on things.

Puff you are doing really well, I think you will get near your target for Christmas.

puff · 05/12/2005 18:14

lol grumpy!

Saker - I sympathise as I'm not finding it easy at the moment either, certainly eating more than I should, hence not getting the 2lb a week loss I'd like!

Hi have stayed the same this week which is a bit disappointing but I did go out for the evening with DH on Sat for curry and drinks (quite alot).

Well done Puff I'm sure you'll get very close. I have a thin dainty sister.........its just as well I love her to bits and she offers babysitting freely!

Saker hang in there I know exactly how you feel. Will be interesting to hear what the GL book says.

Lol grumpy, hopefully we'll all get a fantastic weight loss suprise next week. I would be happy with 12lbs thereby hitting my stone for Xmas target!!!

puff · 05/12/2005 21:34

I think staying the same is good if you had a big night out melbob.

I'm away with my best friend next weekend and we're planning to have a chinese on Sat night. i won't be making any sensible low gi choices so I'm likely to stay the same next week too!

Have a great time. My BF and her DH and DD are coming to stay this weekend I am so excited. She ahs had gastric banding and is insulin resistant so does Gi so in threory I should be ok but knowing how she likes to drink it might not go well. In fact from now up until Xmas I have number of "do's" so will struggle

Sorry!

melbob · 08/12/2005 19:31

Hi so how is everyone doing this week?

Saker · 08/12/2005 21:05

Hi Melbob,

Ironically I haven't been trying as hard this week and I got on the scales today (I know I shouldn't but I can't resist it and it stops me gobbling too much ) and I was 3lbs lighter than Monday! I have to post this now as probably it will have gone back up by next Monday . I have felt a lot more relaxed since I thought I would just try and maintain until Christmas so I think I will continue thinking like that for the time being. Plus I have two evenings out next week and I haven't totally ruled out a takeaway again on Saturday as I really enjoyed that last weekend. I'm a lost cause really

How are you?

melbob · 10/12/2005 22:37

Well done Saker thatts great. I'm fine bf didn't come to stay as her DD was poorly so I have been pretty good. FIngers crossed

melbob · 11/12/2005 21:00

Good luck tomorrow everyone.

DH made AWT Moroccan lamb and pumpkin it was delicious

Low GI discoveries Nairns ginger oatcakes, Bright foods chocolate and orange bars. They also do choc and cranberry and choc and nut.

puff · 11/12/2005 21:13

Glad you had a good result on the scales Saker and hi melbob.

I am expecting to have gained tomorrow - had a weekend away where I ate for England, including a Chinese banquet last night!!!!!

Ah well, I enjoyed myself and will get back on track tomorrow!

Stayed the same which isn't bad as haven't been good this weekend. My weight seems to fluctuate a lot as you can see by my mid-week 3 pounds weight loss but I think basically I am just staying around the same weight atm.

Saker · 12/12/2005 10:10

Well done Grumpy, that's very good especially with going out also.

puff · 12/12/2005 14:53

Well done grumpy .

How much do you want to lose Saker? IIRC it's not a great deal.

I am not weighing myself until tomorrow . Did a session in the gym today in the hope that my body will forget what I put into it over the weekend !

OP posts:
Saker · 12/12/2005 19:14

Hi Puff

Yes I don't want to lose much more - I don't know how much really maybe 7-10lbs. My BMI is around 22 but I still have a few flabby bits hanging around . Plus I would like to be lower the bottom of my "ideal" range so I don't leave it as soon as I go on holiday or at Christmas when you tend to put on weight.

It shouldn't be that hard, but I seem to be making very heavy weather of it. I think I lose motivation as I get nearer my target and it also seems that my body wants to hang on to the last bit. I have started reading Patrick Holford's GL diet book today. It's quite interesting and seems to discuss quite a lot of the questions I have about dieting in general so I will see what that suggests.

melbob · 12/12/2005 20:15

Hi all. well done grumpy. Glad you had a good time Puff. I bet its not a s bad as you think. Saker a BMI of 22 is vv good could it be that your body is telling you that it's at its natural limit?

I've lost 3lbs which I am delighted with but am about to enter the danger zone of Xmas do's 3 this week and 2 next. So not sure I'll sustain it.
