All bran is good, or make your own muesli?

I think many ready prepared mueslis are medium GI which is ok, so you could maybe alternate between the all bran and a muesli.

Sorry if this has been asked before but which book have yor found most useful? I had gestational diabetes ans am now ttc no2 and need to lose weight so thought this diet would be the most useful.

melbob · 15/11/2005 19:54

The best books are the Helen Foster or Rick Gallup and Anthony Worrall Thompson for vv nice things

In the HF book there is a recipe for muesli which is low GI and vv easy you could make it when you had time and store it

Recipe is for 2 portions

50g (2oz) jumbo oats
1 tablespoon raisins or sultanas
1 tablespoon pumpkin or sunflower seeds
I tablespoon chopped almonds
25g (1oz) chopped dried apricots
2 tablespoons apple or orannge juice
2 small eating apples peeled and grated
3 tablespoons skimmed milk

Put oats, raisins (or sultanas)seeds, almonds and apricots in a bowl stir in fruit juice.

Leave overnight in fridge

In morning add apple and milk

jane313 · 15/11/2005 23:32

thanks, will have a look at those

puff · 18/11/2005 11:48

How is everyone?

I've had a tricky few days - cold weather is making me want to scoff more!

OP posts:
Saker · 18/11/2005 19:44

Hi Puff

Doing okay in theory - no major misdemeanors - but I know I'm picking at things more than I should.

We will see on Monday .

puff · 19/11/2005 19:16

yes, me too - not being really naughty but definitely picking at things

Hi well I have been spot on GI wise apart from a bit too much wine yesterday (BF and her DP and DD were stying for weekend. But have stayed the same again will weigh oficially tomorrow but not hopeful

monkeytrousers · 20/11/2005 19:41

Can veggies do GI?

Saker · 20/11/2005 20:39

Monkeytrousers - definitely. It's full of nuts, pulses, seeds, fruit and veg so a real good diet for veggies. The Helen Foster book has a 14 day plan for veggies I believe.

Melbob, fingers crossed for you tomorrow.

puff · 20/11/2005 20:41

Yes, fingers crossed melbob, I think I may stay the same, but am living in hope that my cold weather scoffing hasn't caught up with me yet!

I have lost................

a quarter of a pound this week !

Sometimes I am grateful for my super accurate scales!!!

Anyway, I didn't expect to lose anything as I've really had the munchies this week, so I suppose I should be grateful!

OP posts:
Saker · 21/11/2005 10:50

.

I have lost half a pound, so much the same really!

My weight seems to be fluctuating quite a bit at the moment, but I don't really feel like I'm losing overall. Bit frustrated really but I know it's not that long really so must just keep going.

Saker · 21/11/2005 18:30

Grumpy, well done, that's great.

melbob · 21/11/2005 19:27

Well done everyone. Grumpy that's great.

I have stayed the same yet again. Really don't know what to do, any tips or suggestions welcome.

Monkeytrousers Saker's right the Helen Foster book does have a veggie plan

puff · 21/11/2005 19:29

How long have you stayed the same melbob?

Is there anything you've introduced into your diet in the last few weeks that's new?

OP posts:
melbob · 21/11/2005 19:31

I tihnk its six weeks now. I can't think of anything because basically I have been following the Helen Forster plan

puff · 21/11/2005 19:35

I know I stalled at one point for quite a bit. I was having muesli most mornings and wondered whether because there was wheat in it it was causing me problems (my 6lb gain in 2 days whilst eating bread in Barcelona alerted me to how much wheat bloats me).

I stopped eating the muesli and this seemed to help.

Just a thought.

OP posts:
melbob · 21/11/2005 19:42

I have cut down on wheat product to see if that helps. A friend is convinced that I am insulin resistant which I don't know much about so maybe I should explore that. My BF who came to stayt his weekend has lost 4.5 stone in 3 months using lipotrim. part of me is really tempted because I am so fed up with not loosing on GI but know that its not healthly and probaby only a short term solution.

puff · 21/11/2005 19:49

Is lipotrim the same as orlistat (sometimes called xenical)? This is a drug which stops your body absorbing a proportion of the fat eaten in the diet.

I do know someone who was prescribed orlistat by their gp and did well with it - she was prescribed it for 6 months and lost a good deal of weight. You do have to be careful with the ratio of fat in you diet, but you're doing this anyway with GI.

I think your BMI needs to be 30 or above to qualify for consideration.
