Thought I might take the liberty to start a new thread as can't seem to cram another post onto the old one and I have some positive news to start a new one with! :)

I have lost weight - almost as much as Jillian claims you will and have 2 days left!

------

Everyone is doing so well - putting me to shame with talk of Level 3 going on! Envy

Joby, I don't wear gloves, I found it made it harder to grip things sometimes so have developed a lovely set of calluses instead Grin Do you think we should start a lifting thread so we stop hijacking the shred thread Blush? I have no one to discuss it with IRL either, if I ever mention it they just ask why I want to get stronger Confused

Balloonslayer it should be hard, this is a good thing. Even though you probably feel like you have not improved since the last time you did it you are probably executing the moves far better this time, getting a better range of movement etc and still challenging yourself to the max. Keep it up Smile

flatmouse · 08/03/2011 16:52

Level 1 day 3 done. Still makes me sweat buckets so must still be doing good. Notice that the side lunges (keep wanting to type lunches) with arm raises are alot easier this time around - guess i should think about upping the weights. (Chest flies i don't feel i'm doing anything).
I also notice that my crunches are much better! (presumably having shredded some of the fat that was getting in the way of the crunches previously).

ClaireDeLoon · 08/03/2011 20:10

Flatmouse I had to up my weights on the chest flies too, I used 2.5kg fir those but 1kg on all others. 1kg feels plenty tough enough for me on the rest!

notyummy · 08/03/2011 22:04

Hello shredders. No shredding for me since a double effort on Saturday. Am on a course that started on Sunday and finishes next Saturday. No access to weights or gym in hotel, but more spare time than usual as no dd or commute. Dh has downloaded Billys Boot Camp, my pilates DVD and Jillians Burn Fat Boost Metabolism to my iPhone- none if these require weights, and I have my bands so am all set! Did pilates on Sunday, and then because of the lovely weather I did a 6 mile run yesterday and an 8 mike run today. Some Billy tomorrow I think....

Inspiring talk on the weights Joby and Lostgirl. I haven't done proper weights in years, although I feel fairly strong. I had a go at a machine called (rather scarily...) The Grappler. A big rope that you pull done and can alter the resistance. OMG- it was HARD !!

notyummy · 08/03/2011 22:06

Meant to say I tried the Grappler the other week at DHs military gym.

Joby1970 · 09/03/2011 08:07

Notyummy - what an inspiration you are - love the fact you are so dedicated that you've downloaded stuff so you can work out away from home. Right off to set up a new thread...

susall · 09/03/2011 08:23

Didnt shred yesterday as DH was day off and was a little bit of a distraction, plus I felt so hungry after my breakfast that I knew I would flake out part way through.
Im up for jury duty at the high court starting today and am not needed but have to phone tonight for tomorrow so bonus day shred for me today.
I have upped my weights from 2lb each to 5lb and I felt the difference the next day but not in my arms, it was my thighs that hurt.
I have slotted in the new weights quite easily but I cant do as many side lunges. I still use the 2lb for the v raises and the cardio in L3 and use 4kg for the other weight moves in L3.

flatmouse · 09/03/2011 08:24

Level 1 Day 4 this morning and right calf is tightening up again. Will have to swap out the jumping jacks tomorrow (as that is what seems to cause the issue).

Was looking at Jillian's "pointers" on one of the iphone apps and she mentioned keeping your feet hip width apart in lunges - i concentrated on that and 1) no cramping and 2) felt it more and 3) didn't loose balance (which i had been doing).

Zeeky · 09/03/2011 09:36

Yeah back on the shred finally!!!! My knee has recovered but to be on the safe side I just shredded with a knee support on. I also didn't wear trainers this time & it felt a lot better as I'm landing lighter on my feet during the cardio bits which is the bits that were hurting my knee. Feels good to be back properly exercising as had only been doing a bit of yoga on Wii Fit & some weights.

Going to do a couple more days of level 1 (as only got to day7 before knee problem started) & then move on to L2.

Labradorlover · 09/03/2011 10:51

Well done zeeky

Labradorlover · 09/03/2011 15:22

Feeling my buttocks Grin Day 2 level 3.

knottyhair · 09/03/2011 18:33

I'm assuming that's connected to the Shred, and not just something you do when you're bored Smile.

CleverCircusFlea · 09/03/2011 18:37

Day 9 of level 1 done. I'm a bit worried that I will slip up next week as I've got lots of long shifts and the only times I'll be able to shred will be 6 am or 10 pm Hmm

On a side note, does anybody know roughly how many calories do we burn during a shredding session?

LostGirl · 09/03/2011 18:50

It is impossible to tell how many calories you will burn as everyone will have a different metabolism, be working at different rates etc.

conquita · 09/03/2011 22:41

Hey clever, when I did level 3 with a heart heart monitor I burned around 225 calories. But like lostgirl said it will be different for everyone, but at least this gives you a guesstimate.

Did not shred today Sad

knottyhair · 10/03/2011 10:30

Much better today so back to Shredding - yay! Did Level 2 and forgot how much I hate those V raise things. Did manage to do Natalie for all moves except double jump rope.

greenfig · 10/03/2011 10:41

labrador how are the buttocks todayWink!
Did pilates yest & L1 pumped up version today for a change. Was pleased to find it much easier than first time around. I wish I'd done some measurements now! Although I've put on a few lbs since end of diet people are still commenting on my getting smaller so I MUST br toning upGrin
clever if you manage to shred at those times I will be seriously impressedSmileHow are you doing cairns?

cairns · 10/03/2011 12:14

Still on L1 here but it is getting easier even managed half the full press-ups. had to have a few days off as mil was staying, and I really struggle with doing anything tbh when visitors are here. she has gone now so just about to shred now dc2 is napping and before collecting dc1 from preschool. Still same weight but that is great as am trying to maintain, I think I will do some measurements too as already feeling more toned so would be fab to see that tape measure change.

greenfig · 10/03/2011 13:10

Anybody have an exercise to target lower inner thighs & knees? Have gone slimmer up top but still stubbornly wobbly hereBlush Have tried claires toe turning, any other tips?

LostGirl · 10/03/2011 15:11

Squats and lunges are the best thing for your thighs, they work your inner and outer muscles extrememly hard as these are the muscles that work to hold your knee in the correct position so it tracks over your toes when you bend, just concentrate on maintaining good form throughout the movement, and getting good depth. If you are finding the squats and lunges in the shred easy then hold heavier weights whilst you are doing these movements. However, whilst these will help build lean muscle, getting rid of the layer of fat will take time by eating in a healthy fashion. If you hold more fat on your lower body (ie pear shape) then you will notice the changes in your upper body first, the lower body will follow eventually.

greenfig · 10/03/2011 16:16

Thanks lostgirl Am hourglass but have always had slightly chubby knees. Upper thighs responding & look ok & hips are curvy but not so chubbyConfused Mum same. Slimming elsewhere has focused my attention to them! Will persevere & hope for change. Any magic tips on how to make legs longerGrin Was it you that had the six pack dvd? If so do you rate it? Am already keen for more variety.

LostGirl · 10/03/2011 16:30

They will start to change but I'm afraid it does take time to start seeing it in your heavier areas, frustrating I know. I have tried the 6 pack dvd and it is quite a good all rounder in the sense it has lots of stuff to raise your heart rate and whilst the focus of the exercises is on a strong core they do still incorporate some lunges and squats etc. Variety is key to keep seeing changes so definitley give it a go, but at the same time tbh, using dvd's with just low weights where you use the same weight for all exercises are only going to be able to take you so fat IMO.

As for making your legs longer... my advise is to accept that your body is unique, you cannot make it look like anyone elses but you can train and make the best of what you have. Learn how to train to be strong (rather than exercising to be skinny) and you won't go wrong.

susall · 10/03/2011 16:32

Not needed for jury duty any more woohoo Smile
Was home before 11.30 and wanted to shred but have parents evening and my course tonight and couldnt be bothered going for another shower so I went on a cleaning frenzy.
I have been pretty good diet wise this weeek untill today so will have to get back on track tomorrow before I drink my body weight in Wine on saturday night Grin. Hubbys birthday is on sunday and the outlaws are coming saturday night, MIL is working sunday, so I will get to miss them too!!!

LostGirl · 10/03/2011 16:42

Blush apologies for all the typos in my last post, must proof read in future. So far, not so fat, advice, not advise, and too many spellings to bother mentioning Blush
Glad jury duty is over susall, don't worry about the bad diet days, it is good to have a cheat day every now and then, apparently it gives your metabolism a kick in the right direction.

BalloonSlayer · 10/03/2011 16:45

Thought I'd better check in!

Well done everyone.

Did Day 3 of Level 2 again today. Still fecking hard!

I was doing the knees up running and made an effort to tighten my abs, could feel the fat on my bum, thighs and tummy on top of the muscles wobble as I ran. Confused It was as if I had a padded suit on top of my muscles.

The good news is that if I lean backwards and suck my tummy in I can see those muscle lines on the stomach. < preen >
