WeightWatchers ProPoints Plan - Our thread is expanding but our waists are not!

Welcome one and all to our 3rd thread Grin

If you're just starting out or you've been following WW for a while and you're looking for support you've come to the right place!

There are lots of regulars who are well on their weigh (get it! Wink) and others who have just joined us - we're a mixed bag, all shapes and sizes and all with different goals to achieve but we're all striving for the same thing. We're all here to will one another on with advice, support and lots of cheering!

Androbbob is our resident stat checker and keeps us motivated by totting up the total weight loss each week. So far this week we have already lost over 37lbs collectively! I believe in total there has been over a 9 stone loss since the thread started!

We're quite fast moving at times so just dive in and make yourself at home Grin

Morning ladies

I FOUND THE SCALES! Wish I hadn't as it's not showing any movement so going to get DH to hide them better this time! Fingers crossed for this evening, but if I stay the same that's fine after my lunches this week.

Dreamt about a pasta sandwich last night, penne pasta between two slices of bread. Carbtastic!

teaandcrumpets welcome, I think having something in the morning is the right thing to do - I hate hate hate breakfast so have rich tea biscuits (1pp each) but I think it kickstarts the metabolism and if I didn't have them I would be either picking or have a stupdily large lunch to make up for it with some not very healthy stuff I suspect!

norma hope you feel better soon.

lucky don't go for too long but totally understand why you're doing it - I'm going to lay off other parts of mumsnet and just stick to here as think my 5mth DD is not getting enough attention!

Amazing how quickly your stomach shrinks to accept less food, had roast yesterday which was normal size and both DH and I commented how stuffed we both felt after. Going to cut down on roast potatoes and meat and fill out with more veg next time. Felt uncomfortable all evening and night. Not good!

Good luck to any weigh ins today. Will update later when I've been!

hmc · 24/01/2011 10:46

Sorry it hasn't been working too well for you NoWay - do you only have a few pounds to lose? Propoints is working well for me but then I had 4 stone to lose when I started and still have over 2 stone of that to go...

Are you eating the exercise points that you are earning from the kick boxing?

It's great that you are tracking carefully, but all the more frustrating that you aren't seeing the results. Are you attending a meeting? - could you discuss it with the leader?

Do you have any hunches about why the weight isn't going?

Teaandcrumpets - I tend to listen to my body's signals and eat when I am hungry. It is important to keep eating breakfast (and keep stoking that engine room of fat burning) but it doesn't have to be a big breakfast or a heavily propointed one - for instance a soft boiled egg with 2 slices of weightwatchers malted bloomer bread (toasted without butter) is just 4 pps.

Sneaky weigh this morning on bathroom scales and I still weigh the same as I did on my Wednesday evening weigh in - hope I manage to shift a pound before this Wednesday's weigh in. Might have to hide my bathroom scales in the garage / loft like Lucky did

hmc · 24/01/2011 10:48

Oh was it you Sparkle who had the scales confiscated! Naughty you seeking them out!

DuplicitousBitch · 24/01/2011 10:54

nowaynohow stick at it. i didn't lose anything last week (see last thread for my moaning) but lost 3 this week which i am delighted with.

i am not really using the weekly points and running 3 times a week.

arf @ sparkle adn the scales. i would go crazy. i need to weigh everyday

Lollypolly · 24/01/2011 11:04

Argh! I'm finding the same problem with WW as I did ages ago (and the reason I stopped) - I'm a cheat [hangs head in shame]. I find it really difficult to point everything - a couple of smarties "shared"by the kids, a spoon of mash as I'm serving their dinner, half a slice of toast they left at breakfast. I'm great at kidding myself that it doesn't count but my scales are telling me they do.

Any pearls of wisdom MNers? Think I just need a tough talking to.

I want to lose 3kg by the end of Feb but I have 10kg (22lbs) to lose in total - can you help?

DuplicitousBitch · 24/01/2011 11:08

lolly if you can't point it don't eat it! you can do it.

Lollypolly · 24/01/2011 11:13

Ahhh, such sage advice, thanks DB Wink. Seriously, I'm going to write that in large letters on my kitchen wall.... Thanks for the support.

DuplicitousBitch · 24/01/2011 11:14

thats why i like ww, you can't kid yourself if you track everything. good luck

NoWayNoHow · 24/01/2011 11:29

hmc, I'm trying to lose 12lb from starting weight, and with only 3 weeks to go before hols, it's not looking good! To be fair, I've lost quite a few cm's from waist (not very surprised, as jelly belly 1st place I put on and 1st place I lose from !), but surprised that's not reflected in weight loss? Maybe tummy fat has just slid down my legs to my thighs?? Grin

I'm not aiming to eat the kick-boxing points, but if ever I do go over my 29, the online tracker takes from my activity points before it takes from my weekly 49.

Basically, both weeks I've stuck to my 29 points a day or just over into activity/weekly pp, and have only used 1/3 to 1/2 of weekly points each week. 29 seems to be plenty for me, and the 49 tend to go on one day a week when we meet/go to friends for lunch.

I'm going to meetings (tomorrow will be my 3rd week and 2nd WI after starting weight). I expressed disappointment last week to leader about not losing more, but she said that 2lbs in first week was "a good steady weight loss", which I know it is, but just not if you've got a deadline!

I'm more upset about this week - admittedly the 1/2lb I think I've lost is weighed on my own scale (I know, I know, cardinal sin - like reading the last page of a book first!), and yes it's a day before my official WI, but I can't see much changing before now and tomorrow morning!!

My gut tells me that the ProPoints method is almost TOO liveable - just too many points allocated! Average day for me is:

  • 2 weetabix with semi milk and sliced banana for breakfast
  • sandwich with ham and salad and slim-a-soup for lunch
-WW online recipe for dinner

I snack throughout the day, sometimes on zero pp stuff, but sometimes on garibaldis and/or quavers because I know i have the points for it that day.

Sorry for the rant, just depressed that I'm being so good and tracking so well and sticking to it like glue, but not seeing the results I hoped for...

I just remember the original Points system working better and faster, but surely the PP system should work for EVERYONE, otherwise why bring it in?

DuplicitousBitch · 24/01/2011 11:34

noway if you only have a stone to lose 2lbs per week is brilliant. any more than that probably isn't very realistic. 6lbs of in 3 weeks is better than nothing.

NoWayNoHow · 24/01/2011 11:42

duplicitousbitch, firstly I LOVE your name.
Secondly, I know you're right, I guess I'm probably being unrealistic. I just remember doing the same thing this time last year in preparation for a wedding (obviously with old Points system, but still with exercise), and I lost 10lbs in the same period of time I'm aiming for this year.

I don't mean to sound ungrateful or silly, I know that 2lbs is good! Blush

DuplicitousBitch · 24/01/2011 11:44

you don't sound ungrateful or silly. i am the same, jsut desperate to get the weight off

Littlefish · 24/01/2011 12:23

teaandcrumpets - I really can't say how much the Orlistat has contributed to my weightloss. My GP weighs me once a month (in addition to WW), and as she's quite scary, I find that the weighing alone is doing quite well at keeping me motivated! I'm hoping that the Olistat will keep me losing weight, and motivated to lose weight, past the point where I would normally give up on a diet.

If I eat too much fat, it does give me an upset tummy, so therefore, I try not to eat too much fat.

I am absolutely determined to lose weight this time - I still have 6 - 7 stone to go, and so, I'm prepared to try absolutely everything to make it work, and to keep it off.

I want to be a very, very old granny and possibly even great granny! My dd is only 6 and I intend to be around for a very long time. Smile

Littlefish · 24/01/2011 12:26

LollyPolly there's not easy way - you just have to track everything!

I use e-source and track online. It makes it much, much easier I find.

Every time you "cheat", all you're doing is cheating yourself, not anyone else. No one else is watching you. You just have to do it for yourself.

Realising this was a revalation for me! When I realised that by sneaking food, I'm not actually gaining anything (except weight!).

LuckyLight · 24/01/2011 12:27

Just wanted to say thank you to all of you for your very kind words. I will def be back....when I hit goal!!!

OK, I really am going now.....

Lollypolly · 24/01/2011 12:30

Littlefish, you are a goddess - thank you for your wonderful words of utter wisdom.

Every time you "cheat", all you're doing is cheating yourself, not anyone else. No one else is watching you. You just have to do it for yourself.

I do use e-source and even the iphone app so it couldn't be easier - will buckle down and do it for myself

androbbob · 24/01/2011 12:47

Lolly yoiu sound like the old me! I have been prone to that before but I think you have to 100% want to lose weight and so follow the plan properly else it wont work as you will eat too much! The alternative is to take half of your weekly points and cross them out and assume that your little pickings are out of them. It iwll still allow you to have those little extras but should keep you in points. Worth a go for a week and see. Otherwise you need to do a load of exercise and not eat the points!

sparkle - naughty you finding the scales!

hmc - just remember the Wi scales on your correct day are the ones that count, not sneaky WI's!

lucky - hope you can pop in every now and then - even once a week would vbe great! Good luck!

Off out now with DS to librbary!

bigTillyMint · 24/01/2011 13:06

lolly I am just like you - I keep "sneaking" little bits and then it's really hard to point them. And then I'm not really sure if I'm within my 29.

I know I'm only cheating myself.

Weigh-in tonight and I'm not feelin too hopeful, despite that I am pretty sure I stayed well within my daily plus 49 extra.

And I earn about 30pp's on exerise a week and don't use it. But apparently the exercise pp's only count if it's more than you would usually do Sad

Lollypolly · 24/01/2011 13:11

Thanks androbob - good idea about allowing fewer points, may well use your brilliance if I can't make it work...

bTM, we can do it - there's some fantastic support, advice and inspiration on here - let's do this for ourselves Grin Good luck for your weigh-in

wizzler · 24/01/2011 13:15

Sparkle lol at you hunting out the scales. I know its wrong but I get on the scales twice a day. They havent moved much this weekend so I guess it serves me right.

Noway I understand your dilemma. I lost 3.5lbs in week one, and sts in week 2. Hoping for better this week, but if not then I was wondering if I should eat more of my weekly points ( allegedly body holds onto fat if it feels you are starving it), or will that make the situation worse. Am going to try to do more exercise.

Also, are you checking portion sizes ? I double checked the weight of my brekkie cereals and I was kidding myself!

Next tip: dont watch Biggest Loser tonight, I find it soul destroying when they all lose half a stone a week!!!

sparkle101 · 24/01/2011 14:46

lolly I was like you last time I did weight watchers but thought if no one can see me eating it then there are no points in it - who'd have known that that isn't actually true!

My advice is same as littlefish track it! My leader said this week by not tracking you can go up to 50% over your points allowance, so even then your 49 points wouldn't cover it! Also, by having to work out every single little thing you'll think twice about having the odd bit here and there, too much hassle IYSWIM! By working the points out once you may scare yourself to not have them again!

Keep focussed on the reasons you want to lose weight and you will get there.

bigTillyMint · 24/01/2011 15:12

sparkle Shock 50% over!

Well I haven't cheated at all so far today, just have to keep it up Smile

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/01/2011 15:18

Afternoon :)

Starvin - bloody yorkies - why does the online /book and calculator say different?

Tea - welcome and newsboy is very important - sets you up for the day and yes tummy shrinks

Noway - it's the same plan just everything has doubled in PP and by the time you add on bonus to daily ie 7 plus fruit it takes back up to 40pp a day - I was on 20 - iyswim - and you do need to eat more so use exercise points and at least 1/2 weekly

Sparkle - do I need to hide the scales from you?

Hmc - stop checking - am I the only one who only weighs once a week?

Db - fab loss well done

Lolly - agree only cheating self if you don't include everything!!!!!!

Lucky - 'waves!!'

At a friends for lunch and I made her weigh my potato this am :) she prob now thinks I'm a nutter

Ate the must yummiest twirl last night fir 5pp and came out of my weeklys

Prob have m&s meal with veg tonight
