Welcome one and all to our 3rd thread Grin

If you're just starting out or you've been following WW for a while and you're looking for support you've come to the right place!

There are lots of regulars who are well on their weigh (get it! Wink) and others who have just joined us - we're a mixed bag, all shapes and sizes and all with different goals to achieve but we're all striving for the same thing. We're all here to will one another on with advice, support and lots of cheering!

Androbbob is our resident stat checker and keeps us motivated by totting up the total weight loss each week. So far this week we have already lost over 37lbs collectively! I believe in total there has been over a 9 stone loss since the thread started!

We're quite fast moving at times so just dive in and make yourself at home Grin

whoops, was FI and i did eat and drink many cocktails, plus had pancakes round by the pool every day Blush

sure you wont be that bad .....

androbbob · 08/02/2011 19:08

I can fully see why people gain loads on holiday after my NHW Weight Management course yesterday. We did sugar and she was suggesting that you can gain 2kg in four weeks just by having two large glasses of full sugar coke and a mars bar a day. Now lets face it when on holiday that would be really easy to do (and the rest - cake and coffee anyone!). Combine that with lying by the pool and doing less exercise than at home - equals a 7lb or so holiday gain!

The course has really opened my eyes to things that I really knew - a full sugar coke has 11 teaspoons of coke (the grab bottle size) and would you say to someone ' fancy a cup of tea? Milk and 11 sugars!' You would get an odd reaction but some people think nothing of glugging back a bottle full of sugar!

I could go one but I need to put DS to bed and then go to the gym!

Welcome back hmc!!

sweetheart · 08/02/2011 19:19

ohhh andro - I like the sound of your course, is it on nhs or something?!?!?

hmc - hope you had a lovely holiday. We went to florida for 2.5 weeks about 18 months ago and I was so sick of friend food I was really happy to see green beans on the menu one night - I was totally [shovk] when they brought me geren beans that were deep friend in batter!!!! Luckily we had a villa so stuck to fruit salads for brekfast and made up salads and picknic stuff to take into the theme parks. I hope you have an ok weigh in!

Guess what - I've just found my lowest point pudding. Walls soft scoop cornish ice cream is only 1pp per scoop. I put some strawberrys and grapes on top. Twas yummy!

sweetheart · 08/02/2011 19:21

whoops - sorry about the spelling mistakes! Serves me right for typing with the la[top balanced on one leg.

wizzler · 08/02/2011 19:36

Back from WI. Lost 1lb this week. Pleased as this means 7.5lbs in total so my first silver 7!
Sweetheart, I dont eat my weeklies, just keep them there in case, and I probably underpoint my Special K in the morning!

.. oh, and I agree with Blondes, your weight must depend on how much food is in your tum... which would suggest better to eat crisps then carrots Hmm. Not a strategy for long term success , but for short term ego boost!

Littlefish · 08/02/2011 19:44

Androbob - that course sounds really interesting. How did you find out about it/get a place on it?

Well, I've been to weigh in and lost 1.5 lbs Smile. That makes a total of 35.5 lbs (2 stone 5 and a half) since the beginning of October. I'm determined to get my 5th silver 7 next week.

For tonight, though, I'm celebrating with a pie! Knowing that I'll be doing this for another 2 years to lose the weight, and then maintaining it for the rest of my life, I've realised that I need to have times when I can relax my control just a little.

sweetheart · 08/02/2011 19:45

oh, oh, oh I just remembered what I came on to post earlier! My microwave omlett maker arrived this morning so can those of you who have omletts suggest a low pp recipe for me please.

androbbob · 08/02/2011 22:14

sweetheart & littlefish - the course was a six week course from the NHS community food workers - round here they are delivering it through children centres to get a wide audience and it covers fat, sugar, exercise, goal setting and stuff like that and she has a lot of visual aids - such as pots full of lard for high fat foods, pots of sugar for foods with alot of sugar in, etc. The interesting one was two large test tubes - with a liquid in and red balls to represent how your blood circulated through arteries. One side was furred up with fat coating the arteries and the other clean and when tipped upside down you could see how hard it was for the blood to get round. Another good one was a 2kg lump of fat and a 3kg lump of muscle. They both weigh the same but the muscle takes up less room in your body - was about 1/3 the size, so showing how exercise can reduce your size and shape - to show it was not just about the numbers on the scale - dont forget the tape.

So to those that have had a STS or mini loss / gain this week - get your tape measure out and do your chest, waist, hips, thighs and top of arms. Then do the same in a months time - you may have lost a few pounds but lost a lot more in inches - which means smaller clothes - which is what it is all about really!

I am off to WI tomorrow lunch - hoping for a shiney silver 7 for my stone and if I dont get it I will be back here stamping my feet and spitting out my dummy! So watch out {grin}

I have been following blondes advice - so if I do not get that 1 lb loss I will be after you!!! (Only joking!)

HighHeidYin · 08/02/2011 22:21

Been to WI.

Lost 4lbs !!!!!! Shock Can't believe it! Am chucking my scales out because they bear no resemblence to the class scales. So pleased. So have lost 11.5lbs in 4 wks and have reached 5% goal. Next goal is 10%.

Was weighing people tonight. Great fun! Class leader asked me tonight if I wanted to be one as she thinks I would be really good at it!

vnmum sorry to hear that you are moving so far from your parents. Must be very hard for you Sad

Well done froots sparkle little wizzler and electric

noway very disappointing for you. But our bodies are weird things - seems to be no rhyme or reason to the way they react to things. I am positive your loss will show next week.

Well done for sts norma and bluebump Smile

Welcome back hmc Do you have a fab tan?

androb you course sounds brill! Hope wi goes well tomorrow. Oh and absolutely agree with the measuring. I always lose loads of inches the weeks I don't lose. It's a great motivator.

sweetheart good tip about the icecream! Yum.

lou shred has been posted out today so is imminent You will LOVE Zumba!

Phew, is that me caught up then?

vnmum · 08/02/2011 22:32

well done high and all the other losers tonight. things are going well for this thread.

Nice to have you back hmc and glad you had a nice hol

dearprudence · 08/02/2011 22:34

Wow, some good losses this week.

I'm very interested in the theories about weeklies. I'm only in week 3, and I confess to being confused about whether you can really have them and still expect a loss.

So I see some people don't believe this. Not sure I do either.

HighHeidYin · 08/02/2011 22:41

dearprudence I always use at least half of my weeklies and have lost every week.

2 weeks ago I used 29 and lost 1/2 lb. Over the last week I used all 49 plus some activity points and have just lost 4lbs! So am planning to keep using them until I stop losing!

androbbob · 08/02/2011 22:46

Well I am for weeklies as I eat all 29 daily PP and usually all 49PP. I have lost 13lbs in 11 weeks - which is good for me! I have another 2 stone min, to lose so not sure how it will work still having 29 plus the 49 when I am nearer to goal - be a few months yet so not worrying about that!

I have said it before and will say it again, I think it is all about accurate tracking. I think meals out are probably the worst to point as it is about 5PP and about 8PP - do this a few times and you can have underestimated the points and end up eating 55 PP instead of 49PP.

I think I belong in the spread them over the week rather than one blow out a week use of them. Perhaps we should all post what we do nd whether it resulted in a bigger / smaller loss. I know that if I track 90% of the week then I lose 1 to 2lbs. If I kind of forget and guess PP I usually have a STS or small 0.5 loss.

It would be an interesting experiment to see how much you lose if you eat all 49 on healthy food or on junk! Not going to try it yet!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/02/2011 07:22

androbbob your course sounds really interesting, and i cant stand ff coke tho dh drinks it , and hes slim Envy he also has 3 sugars in his tea and has perfect teeth ,hope you get a good result and wi,if not 'blondes runs very fast' Grin

sweetheart pudding sounds yummy, though always wondered how big a scoop is Grin

wizzler well done on 1 lb loss and glad you agree with my theory Grin

littlefish well done on 1.5lbs loss and soon you will get your next 7 and enjoy your pie (what flavour?)

HHY fab loss well done and welll done for loosing 5% of your body weight :) and also good for chucking out home scales, all scales seem to weigh different, and you ate all your 49 as well

pru i havnt a clue with weekies, what i do know that if you eat 115 one day you willNOT lose weight Wink

saying that, i also think if you are near to goal as i am, then it probably wise not to eat 115 all 49 'blondes slaps her wrist'

off to coffee am today and will eat fruit, have made a large vat of bns and will snack on that all day as going out for an indian tonight (friends birthday) couldnt she have waited till next week when i have new 49pp Hmm Smile

HighHeidYin · 09/02/2011 09:05

Thanks Smile

lol blondes at 115 weeklies. Tut tut.

Am still on a high this morning! Taking the girls swimming in a little bit so just put my swimming costume on. First time I've worn it since my holiday in December and can't believe how much better it looks already Shock

Oh, I didn't mention getting eyed up in Asda yesterday did I? Wink Will keep that for later as it has raised a few issues I think...

Got to dash and the girls ready for the pool.

Have a lovely morning y'all. bbl.

sweetheart · 09/02/2011 10:05

Morning all, some interesting discussions re weeklies - I really hope to add to the debate after my WI tonight seeing as this is the 1st week I have really used my weeklies (although I do still have 27 left!).

I track my food very carefully all the time. I write it down in a book AND I track online. I also try to buy pre-portioned foods so that I can work out EXACT points. Most days I also usually only go up to about 26pp a day just encase I have under estaimated something I have eaten.

I never eat my exercise points at all and each week so far have used approx 5 of my weeklies. During the day I have been eating the same thing every day (control freak !) so in theory I should really have had similer losses each week but I haven't really.

I've only got about a stone to get me back down to my maintenance weight so I feel I have to be really careful with my points otherwise I risk a gain (obv I'm really hoping to be proved wrong toniight) but knowing my body I suspect I am right and that weeklies should not be used.

So in the interest of a scientific experiment my results are as follows:-
(I don't really count a Wednesday SO 6 days x 29pp (174pp) + 49wpp = 223pp per week)

W1 - ate 148pp, lost 3.5Ib (143pp + 5wpp)
W2 - ate 165pp, lost 2Ib (163pp + 2wpp)
W3 - ate 155pp, lost 2Ib (155pp only)
w4 - ate 169pp, lost 0.5Ib (167pp + 2wpp)
W5 - ate 182pp, (157pp + 25wpp) will let you know WI result later.

Just looking at that written down it does seem the less pp's I eat in a week the more I loose

bigTillyMint · 09/02/2011 10:47

sweetheart, that's really interesting.

I guess it should be that if you eat less you lose more, but maybe there comes a point which you should not go below - our leader says that if you eat too little, your body goes into starvation mode and starts retaining water / using muscle reserves, etc.

ShouldersBackAndNoBiscuits · 09/02/2011 12:51

Hi everyone, just back from WI and I lost another 3.5 lbs this week - that's 13.5lbs in 4 weeks! Am really pleased Grin

For the interest of the discussion, I haven't eaten any weekly points at all so far, as I get an extra 14 points a day for breast feeding - haven't eaten them either though. I find that I am nicely full with my 29 so haven't needed them. I'm sure I'd not be losing weight if I ate all of them!

NoWayNoHow · 09/02/2011 12:54

Hey hey everyone!

Congrats all on your losses - what a good week this week so far! Lots of goals/silver 7's too!

Loving the weeklies debate - will be really interesting to see how it all pans out if we look at it over a period of time.

Going to chuck in my figures too a la sweetheart when I get a chance!

Have nasty tummy bug today - cross I have it at all, but quite pleased it's BEFORE my hols on Mon rather than during. Maybe it'll help shift those last few lbs?! Grin

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 09/02/2011 13:06

I keep an eye on my weeklies and exercise points to see if any correlation. Have recorded this :

49 weekly earned 14 activity (uneaten).5 loss.

32 weekly earned 18 activity(uneaten) 1.5lb loss.

32 weekly earned 24 activity (uneaten) 2lb loss

The next two weeks after that I ate all my weeklies plus 24/24 activity points and probably gained but couldn't get to WI. The next week I was at -25 points taking into account my weeklies and activity points and was gobsmacked to find I had lost 1.5lbs over the two weeks .

Have WI tomorrow and will have eaten 35 weeklies and have earned 8 activity points which are uneaten. Would love 2lb loss to get 3 stone but am not very optmistic, we'll see.

Reading the WW forums it does sound as if there are no set patterns with the weeklies and people's bodies all behave differently, some again on 49 weeklies, some lose only when they eat them and it's trial and error to see what works for you.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/02/2011 13:40

i never eat my exercise pp, so thats 3 times a week 12/16pp depending if i say an hour of boxing/combat is 3 or 4 pp

seems if you eat 20/30 of weekies you will def lose weight

shoulders well done on loss

LoopyLa · 09/02/2011 13:46

Hey All :)

I have not joined WW (yet!) but have been tracking this thread since 30th December - not in a weird stalker way, honest Blush - and just wanted to say what a lovely bunch of people are here AND how inspiring all your stories are.

I keep pondering about joining WW though not sure if I can afford it, but your stories alone are inspiration enough for me to start doing something proactive about my weight.

So, just wanted to thank you all really. I originally joined Mumsnet for TTC advice & happened upon this thread quite by accident but I've loved reading everyone's messages!

Well done all!

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/02/2011 13:58

loopy ww doesnt need to cost anything after inital outlay think was £20ish, as in i brought the books (eating out guide and shopping guide) and calcultor and do it home alone

hmc · 09/02/2011 15:07

Thanks for the "welcome backs" Smile

Brilliant losses Wizzler, Littlefish, HighHeidYin, and Shouldersback - blimmin well done!

Blondes - you do make me laugh (the 115pp) Grin

Fascinating stuff androbbob - it is amazing how the difference between healthy and obese is so marginal, who would have thought a couple of glasses of coke and a chocolate bar every day would be sufficient in their own right to pile on the pounds?! Just shows you - we need to be ever vigilant and eat 'consciously' not just whilst losing weight but also to keep it off

Chuckling at the green beans deep fried in batter Sweetheart - that's just wrong isn't it!

DearPrudence - I eat all my weeklies but rarely eat into my exercise points (and I earn around 35-40 exercise points on an average week)...have consistently lost weight (averaging 2lb ish)

Glad you dipped a toe in Loopyla - come and join us!

Littlefish · 09/02/2011 15:07

Welcome LoopyLa! There are many ways of following WW. I know that I need the discipline of a weekly weigh-in to keeep me on the straight an narrow. My bad eating habits are so ingrained that I know it will take a while to re-educate myself and going to classes, and often staying, really helps me to articulate how I feel about food, and to celebrate the successes I have.

Others prefer to follow it online, or, as Blondes does, to simply follow it at home.
