Well here we go, New Year and NEW US. Wishing everyone good luck and sending lots of happy vibes so that we can all reach our goals Smile

Thinbride - the rules for exercising when feeling under the weather are (i) if the symptoms are above the neck (sore throat, runny nose) you can exercise but gently - not to exhaustion - and drink lots of fluid (long walk or cross trainer or gentle bike ride are good ideas so you feel energised but not wiped out - hard exercise makes your immune system dip slightly so not a great idea) (ii) if symptoms below neck (achy body etc) you're better off resting and drinking lots of fluids. Take care.

Must be so exciting getting to try on wedding dresses - good luck at finding THE ONE. My sister has just got engaged - my mum and dad are delighted. kind of wonder what she's going to end up going for as a wedding dress. They're thinking of getting married later this year in Ireland so will be interesting to say the least given her fiance is a roman catholic irish boy and she's a hindu Grin

Buda · 18/01/2011 21:06

An excuse for a new dress anyway dinky! Irish weddings are great. Will they have any Hindu traditions as well? Could be interesting!

Well I have stayed good bar 2 crisps. Then told DH to take the packet away from me. He had opened them I hasten to add!!!

Lunch was a slice of rye bread with egg mayonnaise and then an apple and a satsuma. Snack was a spelt cracker with some goats cheese. Had a handful of cashew nuts while prepping dinner. And dinner was a huge chicken and veg stirfry. It was v tasty. I added lots of Ginger which was yum. Even DH liked it although he didn't look too impressed when he saw the amount if veg!

Thinbride - good look with the dress shopping. Exciting. Don't do what I did though - bought dress 2 sizes to small and then failed to lose the weight!!! A friend had to add a panel down each side for me.

Buda · 18/01/2011 21:08

That should be ' good luck'!!!!

thinbridewaitingtogetout · 19/01/2011 07:22

Dinky i have woke up today with symptoms above and below the neck! I will be doing nothing today apart from the school runs.

I feel so much like crap i want to cry, how sad is that. Got the hot and cold shivers, how lovely (couldnt have been at the weekend when i dont have to leave the house).

Hope every one has a good day and no biffing.

dinkystinky · 19/01/2011 08:37

Well done for stopping at 2 crisps Buda - and for zoning despite DH's objections. The stirfry sounds lovely.

Thinbride - sorry you're feeling so awful. Definitely take it easy - if you've got any echinacea and vitamin c and zinc supplements take them (I find it helps me kick off lurgies in half the time it would do otherwise), drink lots of fluids and be kind to yourself.

Buda · 19/01/2011 09:47

thinbride - sorry you are feeling so shit. As dinky says take lots of vits. Esp vit c. You can take lots - 2,000 mg a day when ill. Your body will just get rid of what it doesn't need.

Do school runs and then just veg on sofa and drink lots of fluids.

Well day 3 of being really good for me and the energy boost has kicked in! Feeling motivated to do something about this house. It is so full of clutter and I really need to get a grip on it. Massive clearout needed before we move back to UK in July. Am determined to do it gradually and have it all done by June. Do not want to be running around like a lunatic and end up just shipping all our crap!

Breakfast was a bit of a disaster this morning. Ran out of porridge so decided to have the lovely healthy granola I brought back from Ireland last week. I normally buy one by the Good Carb company but couldn't get it so bought another one stupidly not checking the label. Turns out it is very high in sugar. Added a good sprinkling of Food Dcotor seeds and a load of flaked almonds and mixed a yoghurt in too for protein so hopefully it won't leave me craving sugar later.

Anyway - good luck today everyone. Keep at it!

Shaxx · 19/01/2011 10:14

Thinbride sorry to hear you're feeling so rubbish.
Just veg on the sofa and have lots of soup. That along with all that vit c and Dinkys suggesting will have you sprinting around in no time Smile

Buda your breakfast sounds yum.

I need to get some energy. I feel rubbish from lack of sleep due to coughing fits.I'm really fed up of it now as its been going on for nearly a week.
My house needs cleaning and I need to go shopping for food.

I've had some porridge and a glass of orange juice for breakfast and have fruit for a snack.

Have a good day everyone and stay in the zone!

justaminute · 19/01/2011 10:35

Sending get well soon vibes to thinbride. Stick to the soup and water - no naughties!

TDW - I've been buying Whole Earth crunchy no added sugar peanut butter. At the weekend dh bought Sunpat smooth - it's very sweet in comparison. I've used up half the jar making bird feeders with the dcs (coat a pinecone in peanut butter, roll in seeds and hang outside - dcs and the birds loved it).

Buda - your food posts always get my taste buds tingling.

I logged onto Food Focus last night was Shock at how few calories The Shred burns - 20 mins of aerobics is 121 calories or if I class it as Circuit training its 171 calories. I did Level 2 last night, it felt like I'd burned at least 500 calories Wink

thinbridewaitingtogetout · 19/01/2011 10:39

Thank you all for the get well soon vibes, still feel like crap.

Also my throat feels like im swallowing/coughing razor blades so not a chance of eating anything never mind biffing!

Will repot back when i feel less like road kill.

dinkystinky · 19/01/2011 10:49

Justaminute - bear in mind, you're only shredding for 20 minutes - and approx 1/3 of that is abs time anyway - so the calorie expenditure (class it as circuits) sounds right. In a hardcore circuits or bodycombat class of 45 minutes with no water breaks, I'll generally burn 400-500 calories. The good thing is that you've boosted your metabolic rate by doing that exercise - and so it will stay high for at least a few hours afterwards and keep using up more calories.

thedogwalker · 19/01/2011 11:10

Good morning everyone, sorry you're not feeling well thinbride. I got a poorly DS, and as he's only 5 months old, all I want to do is cuddle him better. Got some stuff from the Doc this morning, so hopefully his sniffles and cough will clear and we can both get a good night sleep, tonight.

Well I've been very good and stayed in the zone, not shred yet, like to do it first thing, but was at the Doc's so will do it later when LO having his afternoon nap.

Thanks for the peanut buuter suggestions. I have a friend coming over from the Uk later this month and so I will ask her to get some for me. Might brighten up that god awful pumpmerninkel bread Grin.

Have a good day everyone and stay in the zone.

knottyhair · 19/01/2011 12:27

Hi everyone. I was so behind this morning, only had time for half a banana before I had to go into town after the school run (the other half went in DS's smoothie.) Ended up having an M&S sandwich for "breakfast", not my usual choice but only 250 cals. Am now home and have some homemade pea & ham soup with a small slice of parsnip & thyme bread for my lunch. Sorry so many of you are feeling ill! I've got the Shred DVD but keep avoiding it in favour of Davina!

thedogwalker · 19/01/2011 12:53

Go for the shred Knottyhair, it is very good. Maybe alternating it with the davina dvd, so that you get variety.

Well it's Day 4 in the big Shred house and all is going well. It does get easier, I am amazed. Not going up to level 2 yet though, will save for that later in the 30 days Confused. Now I'm going to do housework and run up and down the stairs a few times, as LO not feeling well, I don't want to take him out for his walk, so running up and down the stairs will still give me a work out.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

OP posts:
knottyhair · 19/01/2011 14:44

So dogwalker, do you do the Shred everyday?

thedogwalker · 19/01/2011 14:49

Knotty
I only got the dvd 2 weeks ago and at first I was doing it every other day, then decided that I should really do it every day, so well I'm on day 4, I'll have to see if my muscles will let me do 30 days in a row Blush as some days are harder than others.

OP posts:
knottyhair · 19/01/2011 17:05

Gordon Bennett! I'm just a bit scared of it to be honest! I love Davina (not on the telly so much but the fitness DVDs)and have a few of hers, but I'm only really managing twice a week at the moment Blush.

Shaxx · 19/01/2011 18:16

TDW Aaah to your poor little 5 month baby! Its so sad when they're that little and unwell. Hope he gets better soon.

Well done to all you exercisers. I'm missing it at the moment but I'm still chesty, coughy and wheezy so don't want to get out of breath. I might do some sit ups in front of the tv later.

Today I was good. No biffing whatsoever and haven't done since Monday. I've been eating by 7 and not having anything after too.

knottyhair · 19/01/2011 18:32

Shaxx, eating by 7 is definitely a good idea. We usually all eat together at 6-6.30, but occasionally me & DP have to eat after DS has gone to bed which means waiting until 8, and I have to cook DS's tea at about 5.30, when I'm very peckish! I try not to pick keep hacking off a bit of cheese when I open the fridge and keep some sort of healthy snack around for that time in case.

thedogwalker · 19/01/2011 18:47

oh Knotty, cheese, know exactly where you are coming from, me and my DH are both cheese lovers and normally have at least 5 different types of cheese in the fridge Shock. I try and just treat myself with a bit every now and again but it is hard.

At least I no longer have the cravings for the danish pastries that I had during pregnancy. Small blessing.

OP posts:
knottyhair · 19/01/2011 19:22

Ooh Danish Pastries. DON'T. Tonight is one of those nights when I have to wait for my tea. Just had a tomato cut up and sprinkled with chilli salt. V.nice! But not as nice as a lump of strong cheddar. Am coveting DS's honey roast peanuts. He keeps offering me one - I WILL RESIST.

Shaxx · 19/01/2011 21:32

mmm cheese. We still have a box of camembert in the fridge thats crying out to be baked and have crusty bread dipped in.

I've just baked some rock buns for ds1's lunch box. He doesn't really like raisins so I put some apricots pieces in with a bit of orange rind and cinnamon. They smell gorgeous.
I'm fighting a battle here but I'm gonna win Grin
I'm going to have one as my treat tomorrow.

iluvcake · 19/01/2011 22:13

Sorry to hear about all you poorly people (and baby!). Hope you are feeling better and back on top form soon.

I was really good until about 5ish when I suddenly ate about three chocolate biscuits. I've had three more tonight and my ear has suddenly blocked too, so I'm feeling crap about everything. Think might have ear infection coming on. Was planning on shredding and doing 20 mins on stepper earlier but that went out of the window because of ear.

You are all doing really well from the sound of things though. Keep up the good work. I'm off to bed before I eat another 57 biscuits.

dinkystinky · 19/01/2011 22:22

Evening all. This evening I have made an apple crumble, made choc chip cookies for DS's class bake sale on Friday, made leek and potato soup for lunch tomorrow and made turkey fajitas for dinner - and managed to only eat the turkey fajitas and half a broken cookie despite all that temptation

Would love to eat early but by the time I have the boys in bed its nearly 8 - and DH is often not back till nearly 9 - so dinner is generally around 9.15/9.30ish.

Buda · 20/01/2011 08:59

Morning all.

Well yesterday was not a great day. Not too bad but not great. A few mouthfuls of stuff I should not be having. Went to bed early in the end to stop me! I wonder if it was the sugar in the granola? Oh well.

Today is of course another day.

Breakfast has been a slice of rye bread with peanut butter and a banana. Will have a yoghurt and kiwi fruit later for snack.

Am out for dinner at a friend's house tonight which I am really looking forward to. But the eating and drinking will be bad!

Am totally in awe of the power of MN this morning. Have you SEEN the media coverage about Riven???? Unbelievable how fast this all mushroomed from one post on here yesterday morning. Poor thing now sounds totally beseiged by the media.

TDW - hope your DS is better. Poor little thing. Horrible when they are unwell at that age. You do just want to cuddle them. And they just want to be cuddled.

Shaxx - those rockbuns sound yum.

And dinky - so does your cooking session.

Shaxx · 20/01/2011 09:30

Dinky you have the willpower of a mammoth Grin
Unfortunately mines not so big and strong. For breakfast I had porridge and a bun! But thats it, they've stopped calling me so Ican get on wiyh a healthy day. I've got ice skating this evening so I'm sure I'll utilise it Grin

I saw a thread yesterday by Riven about her dd and calling ss but I don't know whats gone on after. Am off to check out chat.

Have a good day everyone!
