Come back Guitargirl!!

Guitargirl · 20/04/2011 07:46

. It's all gone horribly pear apple-shaped. I am huge. I weighed this morning and I am 13 stone 9 which is the heaviest I have ever been. Feel very down about it. I know what I need to do but I can't stop eating crap. Must repeat it like a mantra 'nothing tastes as good as being slim feels'...

knottyhair · 20/04/2011 08:34

You're in the right place Guitargirl! I find making a plan helps me. Can you fit in exercise, whatever you enjoy, and make a promise to yourself? Choose some healthy tasty recipes, so you don't feel deprived (here I go again, but BBC Good Food website is brilliant for this!). Also for me, using a tracker really helped because I could see exactly how much I could eat in order to lose at the rate I was happy with. Doing that really helped me feel in control, rather than blindly hoping that what I was doing was enough. I felt so much better after doing all this (back in January, after reaching a real low point) and I haven't really struggled too much. My weight loss has been slow but steady (16lbs since mid Jan), and I feel like I'm in a completely different mindset, and believe me, I never thought I'd feel like that. Tried on my summer clothes from last year a few days ago and most of them are way too big and have gone to charity - I'm not saying that to sound smug, but that really motivated me to keep going. HTH. You can do it Smile.

fedupofnamechanging · 20/04/2011 13:41

Hello everyone,

knotty, I think you are right to reduce the exercise until your back has recovered. Back problems seem to take forever to get better, but it is best to take the time now, rather than risk making it worse.

Have had an okay day so far. Had a go ahead bar for breakfast and 2 ryvitas with soft cheese and smoked salmon for lunch. Was good and didn't go overboard on the topping so not too high in calories I think.

Dinner is likely to be Linda McCartney sausages and veg.

Am very hungry today though. I love smoked salmon and could easily eat the whole packet.

Guitargirl when I first got on my scales, I was horrified by how much weight I had put on. It's so hard to get started because you feel that you are never going to get anywhere. However, I did start and have been having 500 calories under what I would need to maintain my current weight. For me that is 1200 per day. It really is worth working out what you actually need. There are some links further up the thread. Good luck.

Shaxx · 21/04/2011 08:00

Hi everyone. Hello to new people :)

I've just got back from a fantastic holiday. We went to Dalyan in Turkey and rented a villa.

Although I was fairly active (lots of walking and a 45min bike ride everyday.
Ok so the bike ride was more leisurely than strenuous but you have to ride gently and enjoy the scenery when you're cycling along a foot of a mountain through orange and lemon groves :)) I've still gained 2lbs. Bah.
I tried not to eat too unhealthy but I think its impossible when you eat out abroad.
I ordered lentil soup for dinner one evening as I was trying to be healthy and it was loaded with butter.

TDW hope the move goes ok.
Dinky Brighton is so much fun. Hope you're having a great time (if you're still there. Sorry, I read so many posts to catch up and have forgotten everything now!)

Knotty and Karma you both seem like you're doing well. Knotty you must be enjoying all those picnics! They sound great.

Guitargirl come and start afresh with me! We can come up with a cunning plan.....

I haven't got a plan for today but I'm getting back into it straight away. I'm going to the gym later for a circuit class and I'm sticking to my 1200 cal allowance. We need to do the post-holiday shop so I'll make sure I've got loads of fruit and salad stuff.

Have a good day everyone!

knottyhair · 21/04/2011 09:09

Morning! Karma, I'm with you on the smoked salmon - love it! So does DS. I try to buy it whenever it's reduced and stick it in the freezer.

Shaxx, your holiday sounds lovely. We went to Dalyan pre DS - we stayed nearer the coast but went there for a couple of days, absolutely beautiful. DP kept getting mistaken for a local - he's half Italian, half Austrian, but looks sort of Eastern European so kept getting food orders given to him etc.! A 2lb gain sounds pretty restrained to me Smile! And good on you for getting straight back into it!

Just had poached egg on toast for breakfast, ryvitas & turkey & salad for lunch and a healthy version of egg fried rice with prawns & spinach for tea. Trying to rest my back a bit still, so having to be extra good if poss, but I'm hoping for a STS tomorrow. Taking DS to London on Saturday and he wants to go to Borough Market, and then up the Monument. Hope climbing up all those steps will go some way to cancelling out any mindless nibbling food sampling that may go on at Borough! He also wants duck pancakes from the Chinese for tea (we said he could choose), so could be a difficult day diet-wise!! Have a good day everyone xx

fedupofnamechanging · 21/04/2011 09:36

Good morning everyone.

Shaxx a 2lb gain is a really good result for being on a holiday, where you have no control over how restaurant food is made and it's really easy to eat and drink too much. I think most people come home half a stone heavier than when they went, so well done.

Have had ryvitas, low fat cream cheese and smoked salmon for breakfast and will try to stay off the chocolate today and do some exercise. Hope everyone else has a good day.

Shaxx · 21/04/2011 20:01

Knotty I thought Dalyan was really pretty. So many flowers, the mountains, the orange and lemon trees. Sigh. How's your back? Hope its better and its def a good idea to rest it.

Karma hope you stayed off the chocs!

I've had a good day for food and have just got back from a spinning class which I thought I'd do instead of circuit. It was really good.

I shall go to bed today being pleased about having a good day Smile

iluvcake · 21/04/2011 20:22

Hello ladies....

I've missed you. Hope you are all doing well (sorry not had a chance to read through posts yet).

I sloped off for a while as I was so sick of posting that I'd been crap and eaten this, that and the next thing...I'm still not being that good but have come to realise that I just don't get anywhere on my own and that the support (and weigh ins!) on here are invaluable.

Since coming back from skiing in Feb, I have found it really hard and am still eating a lot of sugar. I know it's my nemesis and I need to kick it but am still not there yet.

Sooooo, I am currently 9st 11 (5lb on) and hope to get down to 9st 6 before the end of May. Just knowing I have a weigh in tomorrow strengthens my resolve. It's good to be back!!

Shaxx · 21/04/2011 20:27

Iluvcake! Welcome back. We'll kick your arse after we've all given you warm welcome hugs, I'm sure Wink

I go through phases of sugar too. I don't even like sugary stuff and much prefer savoury so I can understand that it can seem like a proper addiction.

Just go back to logging all your cals and hopefully it'll make you think twice about 'wasting' cals on sugar.

fedupofnamechanging · 21/04/2011 21:06

I have been good and mostly stayed away from the chocolate (apart from an aero mousse, which only has 97 cals). There is a Dairy Milk taunting me from the fridge though. I will be very glad when Easter is over and there is no more choc in my house!

knottyhair · 22/04/2011 06:28

Morning. Early weigh-in for me today, as I'm taking DS out first thing to town and then to cinema. I'm down a quarter of a lb - not really worth registering as a loss but hey, I'm taking it anyway! What with no workouts since Monday, and I've gone a bit over my allowance the last few days, I was hoping for a STS which is really what I've got! Am looking forward to getting back into working out on Monday though. Shaxx, well done on the spinning class - was it hard?? iluv, nice to see you back! Just to echo Shaxx's advice about logging all your calories. Karma, well done on keeping away from all the chocolate!

Going to have cereal & skimmed milk for breakfast, I'll take some sort of healthy option for lunch to the cinema (yes, I'm one of those mums that takes their own snacks! DS has chosen smoked salmon roll, a few crisps and some Divine mini-eggs - I will keep away from the crisps). We've got roasted veg & pasta with half fat creme fraiche for tea later. Hope you all have a "good friday" - see what I did there? Smile

fedupofnamechanging · 22/04/2011 07:54

Grin @ knotty!

Weighed myself this morning and have lost 1lb, but have been very up and down this week, so I am not sure if I believe the result. Must keep off the choc if I hope to ever get below 11st!

Forgot to get the chicken out of the freezer, so dinner will be whatever I buy at the shops later. Hope you all have a lovely weekend and good results today.

justaminute · 22/04/2011 08:44

Hi folks. Just had a quick skim read to catch up. Hello to the newbies and welcome back iluvcake I've missed you. I'm still battling to lose the skiing biffage so our challenge is still on. I thought pounds that went on quickly were meant to be easy to lose - clearly not the case here.

Weighed in this am at 11-13 I think this is a sts. Was really hoping for a loss as I haven't been too bad whilst away and I've kept under calorie allowance and shredded so much I can barely walk since I've been back. What's a girl gotta do!!

I have a girly break in mid May so I'm aiming for half a stone by then.

knotty keep up the positivity and great advice - from my skim read your positivity shines through.

Shaxx · 22/04/2011 09:01

Well done Karma and Knotty on your losses (1/4lb is still a loss in my books!)
JAM sts is a pain if you've done what you're supposed to do to lose weight! Have a look at where your calories are coming from. I find that I don't lose weight if a lot of my calories come from carbs or treats even if I do stay within my allowance.
I agree with you about Knotty. She's always positive and is doing really well too :)

I haven't weighed myself today as I did that yesterday and am 2lbs up due to holiday weight. I'm going to really try to lose that by next week.

Shaxx · 22/04/2011 09:01

I think we need a new thread too....

LadyBuzz · 22/04/2011 09:19

Well done on the loses, today I have lost 1lb I am a tiny bit dissapointed but a loss is a loss I have also gone under to 11lb 13 so got under the 12 stone mark and am back to my pre pg weight after 12 weeks! Now I just need to work on the weight from pg 1 & 2! Smile

I have got a really testing week this week, Out for a meal today and sunday and away visiting on Mon/Tue, so will be missing Zumba and won't be able to follow the plan.
I will just have to try my best to be good and steer well clear of the Easter eggs Grin

I am aiming for 11 1/2 by mid May when DD gets christened.

iluvcake · 22/04/2011 11:39

Well done on the losses and STS everyone and thanks for the lovely welcome back.

I am feeling much happier now that I'm back. I'll think twice about what I'm putting in my mouth and Shaxx-yes please to that kick up the arseWink-it's definitely what is needed!

Still 9st 11 this morning. Was hoping for a miracle loss of a couple of pounds over night...

I'm training for a 10k run with some friends and am now up to 5k in 36mins but my knees and hips are really suffering. I'm a bit worried I might do some permanent damage-any thoughts from the runners amongst you?

justaminit's great to be back. Am well up for the challenge-let's really go for it!

Obviously, this weekend will be difficult due to the temptation of Easter-but we need to think long term-egg biffage=flab!! We also have a Royal Wedding street party coming up-God knows what temptation there will beGrin! Anyone else dressing up in red, white and blue?!!

Shaxx · 22/04/2011 22:14

Ladybuzz well done! Dont worry about your meals out. Just make sensible choices and try to cut back a bit on other days and you can still lose weight. Its what you eat over a week that matters.

iluvcake I had problems with my knees when I was running last year and had to stop for a while but it got better. Maybe you need to take some time off? Get some vits and cod liver oil too.

I don't know what came over me today (my sister, thats what) and I signed up for Parkrun Argh I'm doing my first run/walk tomorrow at 9am. Gawd elp me.

knottyhair · 23/04/2011 06:32

Ooh, I feel all funny reading these lovely comments Smile! And congratulations to all of you training/running, I'm in awe. It's easy to be positive (not that I am all the time Grin) when this thread is so supportive and honest. Well, off to London in an hour with DS (DP has to work Sad). Bit of a write off today food wise probably, what with Borough market and a Chinese tonight... planning to enjoy it, and there'll be plenty of walking. Have a lovely day xx

Guitargirl · 23/04/2011 09:47

Thank you for all your words of encouragement everyone! I have been eating better the last few days and already I feel better for cutting out the crap. Am going to try and stay off the scales this week and weigh-in next Friday with you all.

Am taking 13 stone 9 as my starting point as that was what I weighed on Thursday Blush

Happy Easter everyone! Hope the Easter bunny brings some nice non-sugary treats!!

Shaxx · 23/04/2011 10:28

OMG! Have just done the 5km Parkrun. I think I ran half and walked half. Its a really nice group and I got chatting to lots of friendly people. I would really recommend it if you have one in your area.
They run every Saturday morning at 9 all over the country and its free.

Knotty have a great day! Enjoy your meals out. I love Borough Market and always spend too much when I'm there.

Guitargirl well done for cutting the crap. Are you logging your food and exercise? I'd really recommend doing that. I always do better when I'm strict about logging my cals.

Have a good day everyone.

knottyhair · 23/04/2011 16:06

Shaxx, that's amazing! Well done you

fedupofnamechanging · 23/04/2011 17:17

Well done Shaxx, you did really well.

knotty you sound like you have had a lovely day.

Have been okay with food today, calorie wise. Have maybe not eaten as healthily as I could, but have remained within the allowance. Have been shopping with my mum this morning and at the park with the DC, this afternoon.
Tomorrow, I intend to help lay my new kitchen floor, because with one thing and another, it still hasn't been done. Would much rather be in London like you knotty. hope the rest of the weekend goes well for everyone

knottyhair · 24/04/2011 07:27

Morning! Karma, hope you get your floor done!

Had a nice takeaway last night - I had a Thai-style spicy prawn dish (not a coconutty one) with steamed rice, so I don't think it was too bad. We're off out on a walk today - a relatively short one for us, 4.5 miles as it's still going to be about 26 degrees here today. Hoping for a pub lunch out, and I ordered extra hot & sour soup last night which I'll have this evening. DP and DS have both got left overs of their orders as well so no cooking tonight Smile! Enjoy the sunshine if you've still got it everyone! xx
