LOL TDW! It does take a bit of getting used to! Is it that very dark heavy bread?

I am used to it really now. You wouldn't make a sandwich with it but I quite like it with hard boiled eggs or peanut butter or cheese. Anything really.

thedogwalker · 17/01/2011 20:17

Buda - yes its the really really dark heavy stuff, makes me think of a fruit malt loaf, without the yummy tasty fruit in it.

I may try it with other stuff, but with cottage cheese, it just didn't do it for me.

V good today lots of water and only chicken and stir fry veg for dinner plus one glass of wine and lots of fizzy water

Buda · 17/01/2011 20:56

TDW - it's nice with smoked salmon.

Noddy - well done.

I have been v good today too.

B'fast was porridge with a teaspoon of honey, a banana and some flaked almonds
Lunch was rye bread with goats cheese and some avocado and an apple
Snack was 3 oatcakes with peanut butter
Dinner was a chicken and chickpea dish
2 White wine sodas which was prob one glass of wine

No exercise today though

And not enough water or green tea

justaminute · 17/01/2011 22:37

I've half eased myself back into the zone today. I'm reminding myself(...AGAIN!) that sugar binges just aren't worth it. After some crazy eating this weekend, I've been moody and sluggish all day. And even worse I've had awful wind Blush. Please remind me of this post next time I'm lured by the white stuff.

Off to bed now feeling Shock at the scam stories and Shock Shock at the price of TDW's wedding. Sounds like it was worth every penny though Wink

thinbridewaitingtogetout · 18/01/2011 06:02

OMG the dog walker 30 bloody grand on a wedding! eek mine is only estimating 3.5.

Dont have to worry about the inlaws/my mum as i have already sorted my guest list, also my mum is nearly 200 miles away so her friends are not likely to travel all that way. In fact half the guests are coming from the western isles, and my cousin is getting married a few months before me so im not sure if they will all make it.

Been bad again last night but no more, back in the zone and fully intend to stay there.

thedogwalker · 18/01/2011 07:39

Day 3 of the shred and I'm completely knackered Blush, so out of shape.

I was very good all day yesterday and plan on doing the same again today.

Now got housework to do and then go for a walk with the baby and dog.

Have a good day everyone x

thedogwalker · 18/01/2011 07:41

Oh and Thinbride, no more snacking, [consider yourself scolded] stay in the zone. get a picture of the dress you want to wear on your wedding day and stick it on the fridge door, cupboard door, wherever it will most influence you. Have a good biff free day Grin

Hi everyone,

Just joined and determined to lose some weight. I'm currently 13st 3lb, and have been hovering thereabouts for the last 5 years despite numerous diets. Last really good diet was atkins in 2002 and I lost 3st in 3 months and kept it off for a couple of years. Hasn't worked when I've tried it again though. Going for low fat this time I think, have an old copy of rosemary conley somewhere.....unless anyone has a brilliant diet they want to share??????

Hope everyone else is doing well with their diets.

thedogwalker · 18/01/2011 08:46

Hi lily06 and welcome

We like to try and do some exercise and we all believe in fresh, unprocessed foods, which are much easier for the body to utilise. You will definitley notice the difference if you swap some/alot of your processed foods for fresher, purer items. and as Dinky our mentor would say, water, water, water, drink lots of it.

Our weigh in day is usually friday, but some are with WW or SW so they get the weight on their club days.

So again welcome and come and join us whenever you feel the need, especially if you get the urge to eat what you shouldn't, we will always offer words of encouragment.

happy slimming

Good morning all - and welcome Lily06. The reason diets like Atkins work initially then dont is you shock your body into losing weight when you make the first diet changes, then you get complacent and go back to how you used to eat - and put on the weight again. The best way to lose weight is to make healthy sustainable changes to your diet and lifestyle - cook from scratch if you can, chose a filling snack (oatcake plus some protein like low fat houmous or some roast chicken) rather than a sugary snack which will leave you with cravings (and wind apparently Grin), drink lots of water and treat your body the way it deserves to be treated. Find some exercise you enjoy and do it, be it gardening, zumba, weights, running or shredding. Whatever works for you. And remember - you will feel so proud of yourself when you do lose weight, it will be worth it: to make it even more enticing, set yourself mini goals (like 7lbs off by x date) and rewards (and I'll get a new haircut) to incentivise yourself along.

Ladies - enough of these good and bad days. Everyday should be a good day - allow yourself one small treat a day and it should hopefully keep the biffing at bay. I've discovered the joy of mint matchmakers - 4 of those minty little sticks are my treat at the moment. Tis brilliant coupled with a green tea.

knottyhair · 18/01/2011 10:21

Hi everyone. I'm trying to lose a stone, once and for all, to get back in the healthy BMI range. Have just started doing my Davina DVDs again after severely slacking off since last summer Blush. I'm not following any particular diet, but I cook from scratch every day, and am seeing if reducing my portions makes any difference! I have weighed myself today for the first time in ages, and was going to do it every Tuesday (one of my Davina days) but as I also do Fridays, perhaps I should change it and join in with you all?

dinkystinky · 18/01/2011 10:26

Welcome Knottyhair too - always nice to see newbies. I'd recommend weighing once a week (be it Tuesday or Friday - you could just report your Tuesday WI on friday if you like). Good on you for upping the exercise - make sure you dont up your food intake too though (which is my main thing I need to look out for). Up the water (aim for 2litres min a day) - makes a real difference.

Buda · 18/01/2011 10:32

Morning all!

justaminute - LOL at the wind! Grin

lily-6 - welcome! It's a bit of a mad house here! We aim to be TOUGH. (Says she who has been CRAP lately.)

Low-fat can be ok but please be careful of so-called low-fat foods. A lot of them are highly processed and the fat is replaced with vast amounts of chemicals and sugar all of which can actually hinder weight loss and cause cravings.

I did Atkins successfully a few years ago too but then put the weight back on (and more). I am doing 'no crap carbs' at the moment. So nothing made with flour or sugar which cuts out a lot of crap! Also am avoiding rice, pasta and potatoes. My carbs come in the form of porridge and heavy GErman rye bread or oatcakes. Am eating fruit and veg and protein and pulses. Basically a low GI way of eating.

Right - well I have had porridge this morning. Added some cinnamon and a banana and some flaked almonds. Lunch will be hard boiled eggs on rye bread. Snacks will be fruit, yoghurt and oatcakes. Dinner will be chicken stirfry with lots of veg and beansprouts.

I have walked the dogs for half an hour too.

Hi dinky - those matchmakers sound good! I have just remembered that I have lots of dark chocolate from Xmas - may add a square in the evenings if I fancy something sweet.

Buda · 18/01/2011 10:33

Hi knottyhair (great name!) - welcome.

I find a Friday weigh-in is great as you then know how much you can relax over the weekend. I tend to weigh again on a Monday to see what if any damage I need to correct!

knottyhair · 18/01/2011 10:38

Thanks everyone! dinky, good tip about the water. Buda, yup, think I might change my weigh-in to Fridays.

iluvcake · 18/01/2011 10:42

Welcome Lily and KnottySmile.

Be careful with the "traditional" low fat diet lily. I think R Conley recommends everything low fat/no fat but you need (good) fat in your diet-it helps you get the weight off. IMHO, as dinky says, fresh, natural foods, ditch the processed stuff, lots of fruit and veg and cut out sugar and the white, fast releasing carbs such as white bread and pasta. I recommend nuts and fruit for snacks and plenty of protein. I don't even think that much about fat, it's the sugar you need to be careful with-that's what stores the fat. I probably haven't explained myself very well. Am sure someone else would do it better but the science is there.

TDW, try drizzling balsamic vinegar on the bread first, I add things like hoummous and "wet" food so it's not like eating a carpet tile!

Am aching from the exercise I did yesterday. Was a bit bad yesterday-am cross as I had (fess up time) a brunch bar, some choc covered coffee beans and a couple of mouthfuls of haagen-daazs. Did eat a ton of fruit though.

Am back on the litre and half of water per day and have pilates and street dancing later.

lily06 · 18/01/2011 10:49

Thanks for the welcome. I currently eat mostly the right things, just far too much of them!! I cook all our meals from scratch, so healthy is not too much of a problem. Just looking for a bit of inspiration I guess! I'm going to write 'Water' on the wall in front of my PC, and hopefully that will remind me, thanks!

thedogwalker · 18/01/2011 17:56

Hi all

Had a good day, had one treat, wnet to a friend's for coffee, who had bought in cakes, so I had a small, very small piece, which stopped any sugar cravings and I thought well deserved afetr doing day 3 of shred at 7am.

Some of you mention eating peanut butter. Is there any preference for which one? Are any of them healthier than the others? Your thoughts please.

Have a nice evening x

OP posts:
knottyhair · 18/01/2011 18:46

I use Equal Exchange, which has nothing added, it's just peanuts. I think other brands are similar, like Whole Earth I think, off the top of my head.

Shaxx · 18/01/2011 18:56

Hi Knotty and Lily Smile
Hopefully this thread will get you losing lots of weight!

I've been eating healthy and well today and have stuck to my cal allowance but still no excercise. I hate this chesty cough.
All those 7 days of shred! Should I start again when I get back to it or carry on?

TDW I love crunchy peanut butter unfortunately I can't buy it as I would literally eat the whole thing in a couple of days. Nuts are the most tempting food for me. I don't buy it as I dont know if ds2 is allergic them or not. (He had a few allergies when younger but seems to have grown out of them now. They were proper allergies too with his face puffing up)

Its good to see everyone seems to be in the zone Smile

lily06 · 18/01/2011 19:54

Good start to the diet so far. Porridge for breakfast, fruit salad for lunch, and stir fry for tea. Now if only that jumbo pack of doritos in the cupboard would stop calling out to me.....

thedogwalker · 18/01/2011 20:31

Don't do it lily06, think of your long term goal, and no matter how good you think they will taste, they will only set you back and remember the title of this thread Grin

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 18/01/2011 20:34

Shaxx - just carry on with the shred. Do a couple more days of level 1 then move up to level 2.

thinbridewaitingtogetout · 18/01/2011 20:36
