Is everyone having a nice weekend? Ria, hope you're OK. Just thought I should say that alcohol and ADs don't always mix. I have found that too much Wine while I'm on them makes me feel really bad, at one point with thoughts of self-harm or worse :( So you might find that easing back helps your mood as well as the scales?

We had a friend to stay, which meant take away curry on Friday night, home made pizza last night, and drinks/snacks while we watched Eurovision (!) and lunch out today. But I think I made good choices and didn't overdo it. And I only had 1 bloody mary last night, and then stuck to water/low sugar squash. Went for a swim this morning too. Have made muffins this afternoon, following a recipe for carrot and orange muffins that claimed to be healthy, meant to be 180 cal per muffin, but as we made small ones so got 18 instead of 12, I reckon they'll be 120 cals each. Will report back if they are nice and share the recipe!

Hi guys. ICMA just submitted, and am only a couple of chapters behind on the reading now, so am feeling a little better about the course. Weekend was OK, spent Saturday with Dsis (DH unexpectedly stayed over at work Sad), Sunday was a surprise - got roused from lazy morning in PJs by DS1s cricket coach at 9am, expecting him to play in a match 25 mins away! No-one was dressed or breakfasted... thankfully cricket whites easy to find, and coach was providing lift. And they won (I need a Hattie Jaques-esque dressing gown for such occassions). Took DS2 & 3 riding on Sunday evening, had a little jog with the shetland, so a bit of exercise for me too! And the boys loved it.

I know I need to get a grip, especially on the WineBlush Have blood tests tomorrow, and back to GP next week. DS3 is poorly again (burning up and a bit weak, no other symptoms), and I had a confrontation at work today, so feeling a bit pants tonight. I just need to take control again...

Hope you guys are OK. I am so glad to be backSmile

RGPargy · 18/05/2011 22:08

Hi Jammy

Did you enjoy Eurovision?! Well done on being good with the booze. I'll deffo have that muffin recipe please if they are any good!

Ria - Your weekend sounded very busy!! I feel worn out just reading about it! :o

How did the blood tests go? Hope DS3 gets better soon - sounds like it could be just a virus or something? Hope you are also feeling better. Look after yourself Ria.

DP is working away atm so that meant no gym for me last night. I was also meant to go to lunch with my boss who left the firm today but just as i'd dropped DD off at MIL's, the office rang me to say that he'd cancelled. I'm so relieved coz i really didn't want to go anyway! So as not to disappoint DD (she loves being with MIL) i decided to leave her there anyway and i came home and went for a 1hr 45mins bike ride cross country! Burnt off 645 calories too! Shame about the crap i've eaten today tho....... Blush

Jammyrella · 19/05/2011 12:13

Morning, well just into afternoon I guess, ladies :)

Good to see you again Ria. Sounds like you've got a lot on with your course work, but well done for keeping up with it! I remember it was hard enough WITHOUT family!! So don't be too hard on yourself and sorry if I was a bit harsh the other day :( Blush

Eurovision was good fun RG :o And well done on that bike ride!! I wish I'd been able to exercise more this week, but suffering with sore throat and hayfever which are playing up my asthma. Had Tuesday off work and started with good intenetions, but boredom got the better of me and I ate hideous amounts of rubbish Blush. But trying to just write that off as a bad day and get on with it again. But doubt the scales will shift this week :( However, if I'm well enough I am doing 4 belly dance lessons at a special workshop on Saturday! All that shimmying should help tone me up, and help with the calorie burn :o

And muffin recipe here www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/5225/orange-and-carrot-muffins

Utopian · 19/05/2011 12:27

Is it too late to join here? I have nearer six stone to loose but desperate try not to think about it and concentrate on losing at least 1lb a week is a big feat!

I have tried the lot from SW,WW,AD etc I too have done them all and failed miserably. Have been seeing the nurse at my doctors for over a year but pretty much maintained rather than lost however seeing her once a fortnight stops me from going off the rails. It has taken all this time to get a decent relationship with food rather than gorge or starve Im now desperate to loose some atcual weight!

You all seem so encouraging of each other this thread is a fab idea! x

RGPargy · 19/05/2011 12:34

Jammy - hope your hayfever eases up soon. I am so lucky not to suffer with it so really sympathise with those that do. Cant imagine how awful it must be! Thanx for the recipe link! Looks scrummy!

Hello and welcome Utopian! If you have finally got a good relationship going with food then hopefully you can get to grips with losing weight without feeling too daunted by it.

Good luck! :o

Jammyrella · 21/05/2011 07:02

Good morning :)

And welcome Utopian! Well done you for sticking with seeing the nurse all that time and now being in the position to lose some lbs :) (btwif I'm truthful I could do with losing nearer 7 than 5 but hey, what's a couple of stone between friends?)

Ria, you still there? Don't go away!!

Quite excited, going to Bellydance Bonanza today :o 4 lessons, each scheduled for 1.5 hours! If I can manage it all (as well as the stamina problem, I am still wheezy :() it'll be one hell of a workout! And we are having curry tonight (ILs are coming today but I will be late-ish back and too tired to cook, plus FIL is on low/no carb diet due to diabetes (good reminder why should get healthy!) so cooking for him plus us can be a pain) so there's something to look forward to at the end of a long day :)

Oh and I seem to have lost another kg :) That's 9kg lost in all :)

Utopian · 24/05/2011 15:58

Thanks RGPargy and Jammy for the welcomes!

Jammy well done for losing 9kg thats amazing. Wish I could find a class that I could get into like your bellydancing it sounds fabulous. I am so unfit though that would die of embarrassment with my red face and overheating to do a class just yet!

Have either of you ever used Wii fit at all? wondering if there were any merits to getting involved with one of these need to start somewhere and home seems a safe option?

Good luck with losing! x

Jammyrella · 25/05/2011 15:00

Utopian - you wold be surprised, not all classes make ou red & sweaty! I am often a little "glowing" after an hour bellydancing, but not too bad, and I honestly don't think you can be unfitter than I am! But it does do some good, I promise!! Pilates is another good one for toning effectively, but not being a hot/sweaty/mega energetic workout.

Not used wiifit, sorry. But I have got a couple of exercise dvds I use at home, perhaps that could be for you? I have Davina's Super Body Workout, which is hard but fab, a Pilates one and a bellydance one. After the salsa/bellydance class I did on Saturday I am tempted to get a salsa one too!

RGPargy · 26/05/2011 11:52

Haven't used a wii fit either but did start exercising many moons ago by doing home exercise "videos" (remember those!). I did step videos first of all, just starting out with a rectangle that was roughly the same size as a step marked out on the carpet with sellotape lol. I didn't have a step back then and probably wasn't fit enough to conquor one either. I have also got Davina's Super Body Workout on DVD but have to confess that i have never actually done it, despite having had it bought for me for Xmas 2009!! Blush Having said that, i am now always at the gym doing classes so i think i can be forgiven. It's nice to know that i have a back up plan tho if i cannot get to the gym (i.e. getting snowed in etc).

At the end of the day tho, being all sweaty and out of breath is a good thing for exercising (although dont over do it!). It's good to get your heart and lungs pumping! :o

Jammyrella · 26/05/2011 12:53

I agree with RG tht hot and sweaty is good, but I appreciate maybe wanting to do that bit in private. But I reckon there are some forms of toning exercise that can "safely" be done in a public class without worrying about embaressment.

Jammyrella · 27/05/2011 21:56

Had a really bad day yesterday food wise :( Blush DD was a mega pain all afternoon, and I got so wound up and stressed, that when she as in bed, I came downstairs and ate a ridiculous, hideous pile of refined carbs Blush

Not surprisingly, no weight loss seen this morning. Which is kind of to be expected, but kind of a kick in the teeth, as other than last night, I hve made good choices all week and done plenty of exercise. Ah well, it's not the end of the world, I'm sure the needle will move next week. And I'm not going to let one bad day screw it up. And I am really enjoying the extra energy I've had, and the exercise is giving me a great feeling. I've just ordered a couple of exra DVDs from Amazon too, to give a bit more variety. Brng it on!

So how are everyone else? Looking forward to the long weekend?

RGPargy · 28/05/2011 00:36

Sorry you had a bad day yesterday Jammy. If it's any consolation, i've had a terrible day today!! Had a really carb heavy day today. I was going to be really good but then my work did a free breakfast today which was just a carbfest so i dug in and didn't give a monkey's lol. I then went out for lunch to the pub and ate a burger and chips with a pint of cider. I have been sooo bloated all day!! Blush

Oh well, hopefully, providing i am good and lay off the carbs a bit, i will get a slight loss over the weekend.

Jammyrella · 28/05/2011 11:47

Thanks RG, maybe I'm mean but it IS a consolation. Not that I'm glad you had a bad day, but it's reassurance that none of us if perfect, and one "bad" day does not a total failure make.

And on the positive side, the scales may be stubbornly the same, (and even up little on one of my "average of 3" measurements this morning) but I just had a root around in the bottom drawer and found a pair of trousers I bought a few months back at £5 in the sale, which despite being a 22, did not fit Blush. Well today they do! :o Oh and I managed the full 50 minutes of Davina's "super pump" this morning, and 20 mins of pilates after that (DH and DD at cinema) so well done me I think!!

RGPargy · 30/05/2011 22:50

Wow well done Jammy!! That's excellent!! :o It's fab when you can do so much exercise and even better when "too small" clothes finally fit you! :o

Riasdragonflytattoo · 08/06/2011 23:41

hi guys, welcome Utopian.
My laptop had a worm (?) which DH has only banished tonight, DS1s laptop is TOO slow, so I have been AWOL. Also spent half term in the Dale with my parents and the boys, though I did go to a library to email my OU work while I was there (but was too busy googling answers to a quiz sheet to log on to MN).

Jammy, don't apologise. I know too well about the booze... am indulging ATM, but am really going to buck myself up tomorrow as I need to get in training (DS3 entered his first gymkhana - get meWink - at the weekend, and luckily DH's DD came to lead him, but if I have to lead the tiniest pony in the world, in the middle of the main ring, against "competitive Dad" and "super Grandad", I need to shift some lbs (and suddenly become Paual Radcliffe Hmm) Pics going on facebook soon, not that I am a pushy parent or anythingBlush (not at all, just very proud. I criedBlush)

Riasdragonflytattoo · 08/06/2011 23:47

we have a Wii fit (got it 2nd hand a few months ago). I don't know about it's benefits, but assume they would be good. The 10 min free jog is bloody hard! (sweat = results?) I also bought Wii zumba, and despite having been to zumba classes before, I could only do the one routine on the Wii (but I beat DH's scoreWink). If you're moving, enjoying it, and feel comfortable, that's the main thing. "It's better to stand than sit, better to walk than stand, and better to run than walk" (Rosemary Conley book I think, a great comfort when I can't go for a walk cos I have to iron)

My bloodtests came back as low in vitamin D, so am on supplements (and have to spend time in the sun.)

Glad you guys are still here, well done on keeping it goingSmile
I hope to be here more now I'm back online. Must do it!

RGPargy · 09/06/2011 16:00

Still here Ria, still hanging around..... Wink There's a great website / iphone app called My Fitness Pal. You really should look it up as, based on the information you put into it, it can set you your calorie goals for the day, it logs exercise and has a great dieting community. There's also an MFP thread HERE that is nice and busy to keep you on your toes.

I will still be here tho to keep you company if you decide not to come over to the MFP thread too. :o

Glad you beat DH's score on the Wii! :o Does a lack in Vitamin D make you feel lethargic etc? At least you are getting it sorted :)

Nothing has changed this end, with the exception of finally getting the diet "click" and it has all now fallen into place. Have cut right down on my carbs and can honestly say i dont really miss them (much!). Am loving the food i am eating at the moment and i lost 6lb in a week when i weighed in on Monday!

Riasdragonflytattoo · 10/06/2011 11:20

that's fab RGGrin

The GP sort of said the vit D thing might be making me tired, I had to cancel my appointment so she rang me to suggest the supplements, so you don't really get the full picture on the phone. I keep meaning to google it.

I did OK yesterday, apart from the bottle in the fridge that needed finishingBlush

very CBA today.

will have a look at that thread. I think I signed up to something like that on FB, but it's vanished. Am on a mission to finish my Jilly Cooper book so I can start studying (dodgy priorities!), but I'll look when I've done thatWink

Riasdragonflytattoo · 12/06/2011 17:24

Hi RG. I had a look at that thread, and TBH was a bit daunted. Will see if I can find my account on the website though and give it another go...
DH and I are meant to be having a big fat steak tonight, and clearing out the wine, in readiness for tomorrow.Wink
I have regained about 1.5 stone, and I can feel itSad (though a mum at school asked me if I'd lost some the other dayShock)

RGPargy · 12/06/2011 21:42

No worries Ria. It isn't for everyone - you either love it or you hate it :)

How was the wine and steak?? Sounds yummy!! Had my first couple of glasses of wine in about 2 weeks tonight and it was lovely! Having said that, i cant say i've particularly missed drinking wine coz i'm on such a roll at the mo..... Hmm

Weigh day tomorrow. Hoping i've lost some weight so that it brings me into the 16 stones bracket, rather than being in the 17s. That would be ace! Wish me luck for the morning! :o

Riasdragonflytattoo · 13/06/2011 16:22

good luck RG. I wish I was back there instead of where I amSad
2 poorly DCs today, so have had toast...
struggled to think of something for tea tonight as it's dance class tomorrow so can't have anything with garlic in it!

Jammyrella · 13/06/2011 19:37

Ah Ria, don't worry about the garlic! Good to see you back online by the way :)

DD's birthday today, so had cake and stuff at the party yesterday. And tbh too much picking at stuff while I was baking on Saturday. But I am not going to Blush about it - it was a celebration! (Well OK, maybe a bit Blush about the amount of rejected cake I scoffed on Saturday.) And I'm not going to battle to eat even less today to make up for it, and end up feeling rotten and miserable and a failure either. I think that has been my mistake in the past. Either that or I've thought "yum, I like this. Let's not give up on this just yet!" and fallen back into bad habts. But there was none of that today, I just got on with healthy choices again without really thinking about it, so I feel quite positive that I've had a bit of a mindset shift [fingers crossed].

Right, have had tea already tonight (family tea for her birthday) so it's going to have to be a gentler form of exercise tonight, but I haven't done any all weekend other than walking round and round the village hall for 4 hours yesterday, getting the party ready then supervising the games and tea and then clearing up. So I must do something!

Good luck with the weigh in RG - it is fantastic when you fall below a major marker isn't it?

Riasdragonflytattoo · 13/06/2011 21:47

a birthday party would be enough exercise for me!!!

RGPargy · 14/06/2011 21:13

Weighed in at 17 st on the nose yesterday. So close!!

Off to bed, will catch up tomorrow. Night all xx
