Day 15 done.

Melon I still can't get over you doing 2 shreds a day!!!

redderthanred · 04/12/2010 09:42

Day 3, level 2. 13 Days in total. :)

Wimped out on the plank twists at the end, and did the circuit two abs instead. Hope thats ok.

Feeling bad about dinner last night as i know ill put weight on, or stay the same and i had a goal weight in mind for xmas.
I did enjoy it and ate about half of it which is quite good for me on a 'diet'

Bandgeek - give it a few days, i didnt think i would ever be able to do level 2, but you do progress quickly. I think the same about level 3, and no doubt ill be giving it a go in 7 days time.

TheLastMelon · 04/12/2010 10:40

LostGirl maybe u can answer my question, or anyone else who may know. It says on the dvd that we can lose up to 20 pounds in 30 days...how is that possible? Alot of us are not seeing a difference in how much we weigh, only in inches and fitness levels.

So if it is possible to lose that amount while doing the Shred how come most of us are only losing about 2 pounds a week at the most? Coz i would love to know! I have lost nothing and its very frustrating when u are working out so hard. Would we have to radically change our diets, do other exercise? Confused

MickyLee · 04/12/2010 10:45

I know, False advertising at it's best! I mean how much is 30lbs? thats like 4 stone or something isn't it?

redderthanred · 04/12/2010 10:55

30lbs is 2 stone, 2 lbs. 14lbs in a stone :)

Cyb · 04/12/2010 10:56

gah, didnt shred last night

I too really doubt the 20lbs thing. i'm doing it as its cheaper than gym membership

TheLastMelon · 04/12/2010 11:05

I would be happy to lose even half a stone in 30 days. My weight is the same since starting shredding a week ago, not even a pound lost!! When i have done other exercise DVDs , like Davina one, I have lost a few pounds by the middle of 2nd wk even though it is no where as near as hard as the shred. How is that possible?! I dont want to give up the shred, it is strangely addictive and i enjoy pushing my self, but i feel like im wasting my time :(

notyummy · 04/12/2010 11:49
  • that was me roaring like a scary exercise lion Wink DH and I just finished levels 2 and 3 back to back - Natalie all the way baby.

Feeling STRONG.

UnrequitedSkink · 04/12/2010 12:24

Get a little LOWER (also channeling Jillian) Grin

LostGirl · 04/12/2010 12:32

TheLastMelon God knows where they got the 20lbs in 30 days from. It is not possible to lose that amount of weight by just doing this dvd everyday and not making other changes in your life. At the end of the day if you want to lose weight you need to look at what you are eating and see what you need to change. I don't know whether the shred was released alongside a diet book as well in the states and I have no idea what she advocates in that. I guess you could use the drastic dehydration techniques that the biggest loser contestants seem to use and you could then drop bigger numbers, but it would just be water, not fat loss and would be temporary. I really do not think it is possible to lose 20lbs of FAT in 30 days, and that is what you want to lose.

Jillian Michaels lost credibility to me when she brought out her own line of 'weight loss supplements', then a kettlebell dvd despite not actually having a qualification to teach it, and now has a '6 pack in 6 weeks' dvd coming out which unless you have an incredibly low percentage of body fat already, is not going to happen.

Fitness dvd's, diet books, magazines etc all focus on weight loss and getting the number on the scales down but I believe if everyone just threw their scales away and paid attention to the way their bodies responded to different types of exercise and food and followed their instincts then a healthy fat loss would follow.

NicknameInUse · 04/12/2010 14:24

LostGirl, I couldn't agree more! It's so unhealthy (psychologically) to be fixated on your weight. I've seen a few friends let it completely dictate their lives - it becomes a kind of obsession doesn't it. Very sad.

I think a little common sense is the way to go.

bandgeek · 04/12/2010 17:56

Day 2 Level 1 done his morning. I actually feel ok Confused Does this mean I'm not pushing myself enough? Because it bloody well does at the time! Grin

It's really inspiring reading everyone else's stories. I'm not too bothered about weight as such (alhough I wou'dn't say no o losing half a stone!) it's just the general flabbiness and unfitness that I hate. I have a c-section overhang that I know I will never fully get rid off, but the through of some exercise at least improving it a little bit pushes me on Smile

justaminute · 04/12/2010 18:09

Day 13 done, yeah! Was intending to do 2 rounds today as I missed yesterday but Level 2 wipes me out too much. Dcs joined in with me for some of it. Dd cried this is easy!!! - oh to be 6 years old, not had 2 children and not be overweight!

it is very sweet when they watch from the comfort of the sofa
ds " mummy are you sweaty?"
dd to ds "Mummy does this because she doesn't get playtime at work"
both " YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG!"

Keep up the shredding folks. I agree that the lose 20lb claims are false. I did 3 rounds of shredding over the summer and only lost a few lbs but I did lose inches and regained (momentarily Blush) my exercise mojo.

MickyLee · 05/12/2010 07:58

Just about to head off to do day 16.

Really not in the mood today, but I know I can't shread on Tuesday. We are heading out to the city early morning until late evening to do the Christmas shopping and buy the decorations. Just going to get cracking on it. Will be glad I did it when it is over.

MickyLee · 05/12/2010 09:55

Just finished.. so glad I did it now. Feel great :)

redderthanred · 05/12/2010 10:49

well done :)

Just done day 13.
Still wimped out on the plank twists at the end. I just cant do the. So stuck with cycle 2 abs.

Had a quick meaurement even though i wasnt going to.
Since last sunday ive lost
1/2 off each arm
nothing of bust ( thank god as i lost 2.5 inches last week)
1/2 inch od waist
1/2 inch of hips
nothing of thighs, but they arent that big anyway.

Weight loss - ZERO.

Seriously fucking me off. I would understand it if i only had a small amount of weight to lose. But i dont. Ive a stone and half until my bmi is in the healthy range.

MickyLee · 05/12/2010 10:54

Happy you are still losing inchs though redder

Have you managed to change your food habits yet?

I am trying to eat every 3 hours but small side plate sized meals and snacks. Still the same food though.

mummyshreddingnora · 05/12/2010 11:08

I ate breakfast today!!! Haven't done the shred the last 2 days Xmas Sad as been rearranging the lounge for a new sofa that then didn't fit Xmas Angry so am back to it tonight and holiday tomorrow! Taking laptop - so you may get quick updates but nothing much - hoping to shred each day whilst there!

prettybird · 05/12/2010 11:08

Redder: you really should give yourself a few days off your diet - and then re-start in a healthier way.

If you insist on continuing on weighing yourslef, you may suprise yourself and notice a reduction over a week or so, as your body finally reaslsies it's not starving. However, it does seem you have been starving yourself for so long that it may take time for your bdy to re-adjust.

In which case, it wuld be better to stop weghing yourself for a month or so: eat healthily, exercise and as an alternative to weighing (as I don't think you would able to cope without some form of measurement), just measure yourself.

redderthanred · 05/12/2010 11:11

Yes. Im happy with the inch loss.

Thats 10.5 inches in 12 days, which is pretty impressive.

But to have lost nothing. I dont really understand it.

Even on a 'starvation diet' even though its not healty you do lose weight.

Eating a bit more and exercising you should lose weight.

Ive not even lost 1/2 pound and im just a bit baffled.

LostGirl · 05/12/2010 11:36

On a starvation diet you lose weight because you lose water and your body burns your muscle for fuel instead of fat, muscle weighs more than fat so hence you lose more weight quickly for a very short space of time. PLease get rid of your scales, they are doing more damage than good Sad

redderthanred · 05/12/2010 11:38

Prettybird. But i havent been starving myself for so long.

Last time i did was may, i then entered a full force 'eat whatever i damn well liked' till the end of september.

When i went to collect my contraceptive pill from the doctors they made me get on the scale and i was horrified.

So since october ive been gradually reducing what i eat and ive lost a stone.

I cant go from eating loads to not eating instantly, i have to ajust to it. So its not been for ages at all. Just a matter of a few weeks. So, i should actually have lost something.

Im just very confused about it. I had bad gallstones last year that had to be taken out and i lived on soup only for months. The doctors knew about it and were not concerned, they said it was enough to substain me. I lost weight then. Im not eating much more ( bar these last few days) and am shredding, so i just dont understand why ive not lost anything.

Im only jumping on the scales/measuring once a week.

I dont think that is that bad. Some people do it far more often that that. I would have been happy to just lose 1lb. To be heading in the right direction. But to lose nothing is really disheartening.

MickyLee · 05/12/2010 11:57

What I don't understand is how you can lose so many inches but not any weight!

redderthanred · 05/12/2010 12:12

exacally micky.

I dont understand. AT ALL.

If i did, then it might help.
Ive lost 10.5 inches in 12 days. Loads of people are telling me how much weight ive lost and that i look fantastic.

But ive only lost 2lbs.

I dont understand at all.

It is impossible t have built that much muscle in such a short space of time.

I cant possibly be holding onto that much water. ( im drinking and weeing lots :) )

I just dont understand at all.

My scales arent faulty either - lol

If i could find a reason for the inch lost, but not the weight loss....??? but i cant.

MickyLee · 05/12/2010 13:09

Very odd. We really do need to get Killian in for a webchat. I would love to understand it all more
