I feel crap. Just done an injured person's version of day 9.

Because I'm having to rest my knee I couldn't do anything involving them. I did half an hour of everything else though - did;

all the abs stuff three times over,
all the weights stuff twice over,
extra weights stuff in addition,
and three mins straight of punching to get my heart rate up.

Don't have that sense of acheivement afterwards though Sad

ThatVikRinA22 · 02/12/2010 22:12

done day 4 and am considering moving to level 2....follow natalie so think i may be ready however, cannot do the full pressups for long before having to go to my knees, but feel level 2 is on the cards!

Sugarmuppet · 02/12/2010 22:13

Think you did bloody well just to do something nniu!

Killian must really have got to you!!! Xmas Grin

Go easy though, don't want to damage your knee anymore.

Cyb · 02/12/2010 22:18

Vicar level 2 is hard but def doable.

I sweat like a bitch

ThatVikRinA22 · 02/12/2010 22:36

think ill try it tomorrow then...am a bit bored with level 1

DilysPrice · 02/12/2010 23:02

I've done level 2 again after skipping a day in order to fight off DH's cold. I think that makes it my 4th day of level 2 and I am now surviving it, and planning to go up to heaviest weights on all the strength moves tomorrow (but don't be too impressed, that's only 1.5 kg).
Still not doing full strength plank jacks or squat thrusts though - I blame my iffy knees.

BEAUTlFUL · 03/12/2010 01:18

I went back to it and tried Level 2.

Slobbadan · 03/12/2010 07:25

I missed day 6 yesterday as DS was sick and i also had my 3 nieces to entertain all day, so exscuses out the way, i weighed in today as im on a diet and stayed the same, even though i have been good and shredded everyday!

I also dont quite buy this "its muscle thing" because if you watch The Biggest Loser they still manage to lose even though they exercise and diet. Any ideas peeps?

HowAnnoying · 03/12/2010 07:31

Did my first level 2 yesterday (day 11 overall) it was alot harder than level 1 and I felt like I really worked. I want to lose hal a stone but my eating is really letting me down, I'm trying to eat low GI, but keep dipping into the biscuit tin, so I'm not losing weight but am definitely toning up, and my boobs look like they've perked up too!

redderthanred · 03/12/2010 08:06

well done howannoying. :)

I just did day 2 level 2 as well.

The mid rows in the first circiut kill me.
and the 2nd lot of V raises too.

Then my whole body just collapses 5 plank jacks before the end.

And the abs in circuit 2 are hard. Very very hard.

notyummy · 03/12/2010 09:05

Slobbadan - May depend how much you have to lose? It's easier to lose if you have more to go, no? Are you calorie counting, low carb or low GI?

LostGirl · 03/12/2010 09:34

Slobbadan - Your body may be retaining a lot of water at the moment. Your muscles breakdown when you exercise and then your body rebuilds them and makes them stronger, during this process they fill with water, and if your body is not used to exercise then your body will keep retaining water in anticipation of needing it again. Keep drinking plenty of water throughout the day and your body will soon recognise that it doesn't need to retain water. You're right about the muscle, it takes a loooonng time to build even 1 pound of muscle. Try not to be too disheartened about not losing anything. Our weight fluctuates hugely for a variety of reasons and is not the best way to assess your health/fitness etc. Try taking a picture of yourself: front, back and side, and measuring yourself as well once a month. When you measure yourself, always pull the tape measure as tight as you can, this eliminates the 'I've lost 5 inches in one week' by going from having it very slack the first time you measure to pulling it much tighters the next! Great motivation for the first week, but then once you start measuring realistically you can become disheartened.

redderthanred · 03/12/2010 10:42

Lostgirl - so when should you expect your muscles to stop holding extra water then?

and belive me, i did hold the tape measure tight the first time i measured. To try and con myself the measurement was smaller!!

MickyLee · 03/12/2010 10:44

Love your advice lostgirl Keep it coming, sounds like you know what you are talking about.

Day 14 over and done with. FInished 20 minutes ago, had a shower and a sit down but my heart is still beating fast and i am still sweating.. Bloody good workout!

I noticed my strengh has really built up. Yesterday I moved the furniture round in my living room. I have a solid hard wood cabinet, usually I get someone to help me move it, but yesterday I managed it on my own and it really wasn't even that hard.
Then this morning, we had our water delivered for our water cooler. Big 19 litre bottles! I have to lift it up and then turn it upside down and place it on the top. Usually it takes me maybe 3 or 4 attempts but this time I did it in ONE!!! Get me!

chocoholic · 03/12/2010 10:49

Morning shredders.

Day 15 done for me - half way through!! Grin

Bloody hell it was hard today though. Serves me right for thinking I had got to grips with level 2. I had a jelly wobble moment in the middle and yes, gillian, I did want to die.

Big sweaty mess now so off to clean up before I face the world.

redderthanred · 03/12/2010 11:42

Lostgirl, just wondering,as someone whos bmi is over 25 if this shred is the best way to go then?

Yes, i have lost inches, yes im stronger, my fitness has improved. But ive not as yet lost much weight.

If someone is overweight is it better to not exercise first and get the weight off then, if this seems to hinder that?

Or, to just accept that it might take longer to get the weight off if your doing exercise like this, but that you will be fitter, and more toned?

Im following a very strick diet, that when ive done before, id be losing 4lbs a week. With this shred its only 2.

Obviously i want my fitness to be good, and i want to be toned. But i also need my bmi to come down.

Am just a little bit confused now.

Slobbadan · 03/12/2010 12:02

lostgirl i have quite a bit to lose (about 4st) im 14st 3lb at the min. I never really thought about water retention but i am drinking more water?

Im going for the low fat/low carb diet. Really need to pull myself togethar and start back on the shred!

How long till your body stops storing the water?

acebaby · 03/12/2010 12:26

you are all doing so brilliantly Grin

I had to miss yesterday because of a work deadline but am raring to go today. I missed my date with Killian. It should be easier to get it done today because DH is working from home so can do some early evening child wrangling

I am going to stick to level 1 for one more day and then try level 2 with beans tomorrow.

For those looking for mats... they sell them at Sainsbury's for £6 but I have been using a folded up large towel, which seems absolutely fine. You do need something though. I started on a hard floor and ended up with bruised coxits (sp???) after a few days

Chrysanthemum5 · 03/12/2010 12:40

On Day 4. level 1. Not too bad so far, but I only have 0.5kg weights which are not really heavy enough long-term. Is level 2 really hard?

bumpybecky · 03/12/2010 12:50

did day 2 but couldn't manage a lot of it, so sore from yesterday :( still I attempted all of it :) hopefully my body will soon stop protesting so much so I can stop cheating!

LostGirl · 03/12/2010 12:53

redderthanred definitely don't stop shredding! At the end of the day the experts (of which I am not one Grin ) say that weightloss is 80% down to diet, 20% exercise so obviously how you are eating is important. When you are on a calorie deficit, then it is near on impossible for your body to build new muscle and get sronger, but by weight training (and by that term I include bodyweight exercises like squats, press ups, lunges etc) then you aim to at least maintain your muscle mass that you already have and ensure that the weight that you do lose will be fat. When you see people who have dropped 7lbs in one week on a no carb/low calorie/starvation type diet, then most of that weight they have lost is going to be water and lean muscle which is NOT what you want, so slow weight loss is actually a good sign!

Slobbadan · 03/12/2010 13:01

I might try shredding every other day and still dieting tosee if i get a loss next week. m not drastically cutting carbs out or anything, just trying not to have bread/pasta/potatoes at every sitting and eating foods with a low sat fat content.

redderthanred · 03/12/2010 13:07

Lost girl

Ah - i see. So is that then maybe why i could lost 4lbs in a week, maybe a stone in a month. But then as soon as i started eating again, id have put a stone on in about 2 weeks. ( and i wish i was kidding about that fact, but im not) because id not really lost fat, but water and lean muscle, and maybe a small amount of fat.

So then, doing it this way, and hopefully keeping the muscle i have ( im already way sronger than i was btw) i will actually lose just real fat, which will hopefully stay off and not come back in one day, even if i eat a healthy meal ( which is what would happen before. Id go back to healthy eating, but still pile the weight on, and then some)

So this might help the whole yoyo diet thing ive been stuck on most of my life ???

and no way would i stop shredding. I love it.
I love the energy its giving me, and the sense of achievement and have already planned what i will do post shred. because im not going to just stop. I want to keep going :)

redderthanred · 03/12/2010 13:11

Slobbadan - im having no bread/pasta/rice/potatoes for 2/3 days, then having 1 meal with some.

Im still eating tons of fruit and veg, which i understand have carbs in, but im not, not eating those.

Have you measured yet? That might show more results.

NicknameInUse · 03/12/2010 13:14

Done day 10! (I took painkillers and did it properly today)

Still not ready to move up to level 2 but am definately making progress - I was really weak and unfit before starting. Mine will be a 100 day shred! Grin

Am really feeling/seeing a difference now. Who knows, I might be able to bear looking at Christmas photos of myself this year!! Shock
