bumpybecky - you need a mat if you're on a hard floor and some weights. I've been using 400g tins of tomatoes as weights.

I've just done day 2 and am wobbly and tired...you do get a good workout for only 20 mins.

Here's hoping our wobbly bits will be history by Christmas Xmas Grin

bumpybecky · 02/12/2010 11:16

ok I managed it, sort of! two cans of baked beans for weights and no mat so I had to use the sofa (which was far too squishy but the floor was too hard). My abs are non-existant so need to sort a mat out asap.

I was in tears twice :( my knees aren't good and first time through with the butt kicks I had to stop as it was so painful, ended up jogging. Second time round was a mini kick and not too bad.

This had better work!

prettybird · 02/12/2010 11:18

My dh says my tummy is definitely smaller Xmas Smile

I'm on the 2nd time through and have just done Day 2 of level 3 again. I'm now able to do a few of the full plank elbow press-ups - something that was physically impossible the first time around (I would send the message to my arm to rais from the bent elbom position up on to my hand and there would be nooooo response Xmas Grin).

I've also lost over half a stone since strating the Shred (mid September)- but I have been dieting too Xmas Smile - and I've jsut bought myslef some size 14 jeans again (having had to buy some "temporary" size 16 jeans last autmun when I put on a shedload of weight - and then had to buy a replacement pair this summer 'cos they had worn through between the legs Xmas Blush).

prettybird · 02/12/2010 11:19

Bumpybecky: you could use a couple of towels as a mat until you can get a proper one.

bumpybecky · 02/12/2010 11:26

talk of planks is scaring me! but well done on the loss :)

I've just had a look in Argos for mats (Argos on school run!) and found camping mats - we've got some of those in the loft. Are they the same thing as proper exercise mats? also what weight weights is best - two cans of beans was plenty heavy enough for now, but thinking ahead ...

thanks :)

bumpybecky · 02/12/2010 11:27

argos also have proper mats, but I'm a cheapskate!

NicknameInUse · 02/12/2010 11:33

Yep becky a camping mat is fine.

I'm so gutted today, my knee is really bad - just been for a walk with ds and dp in the snow and it's very painful. I think I might have to do some kind of modified version until it's better, don't know how I'm going to do any cardio and squating stuff though Sad. DP thinks I'm nuts wanting to do it at all but it just feels wrong missing a day. Aaarg!

chocoholic · 02/12/2010 11:41

Becky, anything that makes the floor a little less hard will be fine. I just lie on our rug for the abs bits.

Red - Level 2 is a shocker isn't it!!! It does get better, promise.

Prettybird, how does level 3 compare to 2?

Day 14 done for me, yay!!! Nearly halfway through the shred. Shock

kkfairybrains · 02/12/2010 12:37

Joining you shredders!
Got my dvd this morn after nearly a week waiting for it! when i walked down the stairs and seen it sitting in the letterbox i actually stopped in my tracks and got scared!
But day 1 is now done! oh holy god its tough going at times! Didnt measure but will try tonight. Thinking of maybe taking a picture too and everytime i dont feel like doing it il look at the picture and be disgusted into doing it!

prettybird · 02/12/2010 12:41

Apart from the plank from elbows exercise in Circuit 1 and the travelling push-ups in Circuit 3 (both of which have an easy version), I actually think that Level 2 is harder. There are no killer exercsies like the V-raises when even doing Anita's version is painful.

Having said that, the "full" versions in Level 3 are tough. I still don't do the "proper" sit-ups: I do Anita's version which is from Lying to sitting forward, with straight legs and your arms in front (in fact, I do it holding wieghts, which helps the balance; it's a variation of a Pilates exercsie I do) rather than the hands behind the ears, bent legs sit-ups that Natalie does.

Joby1970 · 02/12/2010 13:30

prettybird - I agree I think level 2 is the hardest. tho the rockstar jumps are a killer on level 3

The other "contrary" thing I have found is that it is actually easier to do the "plank" aerobic exercise (eg the jump sqautes, moutain climbing and plank jacks) faster Shock - accompanied by lots of heavy breathing! Wink

You might be really breathless by the ned, but you do get through them! :)

ALovelyBunchOfBaubles · 02/12/2010 13:55

I'm a little worried! My DVD is on order but I just been thinking. I'm in a first floor flat. My neighbours are going to think there's some strange goings on happening up here!!

I'll use beans for weights and my rug for a mat :) I can't wait for it to come!

glovesoflove · 02/12/2010 15:05

First attempt this afternoon - baby woke up just before the end and have to say I was pleased, I thought I might die Xmas Shock

Will try and measure later on if I remember. I am a big wobbly mess so if I can be a smaller wobbly mess or a big less wobbly mess that would be dandy.

MickyLee · 02/12/2010 15:55

LovelyBaubles I too am in a flat.. My neighbours have not said anything as yet but I know would be wondering. Our place is very badly built and we can hear each other talking (thank god no one else understands English - live overseas) All that banging and me huffing and puffing, plus DH's car not outside Wink

Cyb · 02/12/2010 16:30

On level 2 all those plank jumping jacks really hurt my knees-i feel they are bending the wrong way- i ahve to do the wussy ones.

DilysPrice · 02/12/2010 16:54

That's what the wussy ones are there for Cyb, no point being aerobically fit if your knees are too knackered for you to walk.
I do the low impact variants with pride.

ALovelyBunchOfBaubles · 02/12/2010 17:44

That what I was hinting at mickey Xmas Wink

We can hear each other talking too.

God knows what they hear when DH is home Xmas Wink LOL

I'm either going to have to get up at like 6am and do it or do it at night. Not sure DD will let me otherwise. She'll think I'm wrestling and jump on me Xmas Grin

mummyshreddingnora · 02/12/2010 19:22

Evening all!

Right I am back and going for it tonight..... do I do level 1 again or go for level 2 ???

No working from home tonight and the kids are in bed, so just having a cuppa to warm up and I will be off!!!

So today is technically day 10 - but having not done yesterday it will be day 9 .... muppet and others - no longer same day as you!!! Xmas Sad

longdarktunnel · 02/12/2010 20:20

I'm in...have been reading the thread for a while and have picked up some v useful tips. Turning Jillian down (now I know what I'm doing - am on day 5) and listening to Woman's Hour is way better than being yelled at, but I can see her scary eyes watching me all the time. Also turning round during the jumping jacks.

It's certainly getting easier. I did 2 proper push ups today, and am doing Natalie the rest of the time. I do not like the lunge-to-the-side-and-raise-your-arms thing one bit. Maybe 2 more days on level 1 then might attempt level 2.

It's definitely bearable - 20 minutes really isn't that long, and having just finished I feel quite energised.

mummyshreddingnora · 02/12/2010 21:07

well done longdark!

well day 9 is done here! Xmas Grin halo fully restored! I stood up and fell over after, so I think I worked hard enough to make up for yesterday!

where is everybody else?

Sugarmuppet · 02/12/2010 21:16

Am here. In mind if not in body.

Did you manage level 2 Nora? I wimped out and did level 1 tonight but mostly kept up with Natalie.

Ouch.

mummyshreddingnora · 02/12/2010 21:34

I did manage level 2 - polishes halo! Xmas Grin face still looks like this though Xmas Blush

BEAUTlFUL · 02/12/2010 21:54

Thans so much for this fab thread! I'd never heard of Jillian before, but after I heard you all raving I bought a copy of the Shred DVD and a book, Making the Cut.

Need something sporty to do as was a gym-bunny but have been banned by Doctor until I have a suspected hernia scanned. Sad I never thought I'd hate being told not to exercise, but I do.

Tried the DVD tonight - it's awesome! I might do 2 a day - it's very like a Core Class I did at the gym but that was 60 minutes!

When do you go from level 1 to level 2?
