forever well done!! Isn't that motivation enough to get through a couple of pp days?
I think extra water & gentle stomach exercises are recommended for constipation, also psyllium husk-something you find in health food shop? Personally I find ice cold water (I fill a 1 litre bottle & keep in fridge each day) always works for me!Wink
Use lots of herbs & spices, marinade in yog or serve herb/spicy yog on side to keep it varied on pp, it'll fly by!
cairns that's fab, I'm sooo pleased for you! I was down to 9.8 yest. but was pretty lax-v short walk, glass wine, yorks pud & roast pot, 4 chocs, 1/2 avocado!! Not surprisingly am 9.10 1/2 this am!! However am confident I now have a grip on things & can get back down. Will see how I am later in week & will revert to strict dukan consolidation if nec.

Foreverondiet · 24/01/2011 10:34

thanks greenfig will go to H&B at lunchtime and get some psyllium husk. And yes, am especially motivated as scales were 10 stone 1.2 lbs this morning so would LOVE to get under 10 stone.

However, I looked at the ingredients of movicol and its basically just essential salts (rather than sugars etc) so have decided that would rather take it than risk constipation as have underlying medical condition (recurring anal fissure) and serious constipation would be a disaster for me (could mean I'd need surgery) I'd rather loose weight more slowly than have this come back. I suspect will be less of a problem on alternating protein/protein & veggie days, and only really problem when attempting 3-4 days PP days at outset.

oncemorewithfeeling · 24/01/2011 13:48

Hello everyone, I thought I would try this too. Looks like it really works. Bit nervous about it, have never tried a low carb diet. But also really really want to lose my baby weight. She will be 1 in a week and I still look 4 months pregnant Sad.

I want to lose 10 kilos. Not too sure of the rules but am aiming for 3-5 attack days. Can I eat sardines in oil in this phase?

Foreverondiet · 24/01/2011 14:08

hi oncemore I am also just starting and losing baby weight, giving this a go, have already lost around 30 pounds on low calorie low fat diet but reached plateau. Have another 10 pounds to go.

Sardines are fine but need to be in water or brine I think.

Ugh, have eaten too many Fat free natural yoghurts today, easy to take to work for lunch!

oncemorewithfeeling · 24/01/2011 14:18

Hi Forever, it figures that the sardines cant be in oil. Hmm and I have just realized that my fat free yogs are fruit yoghurts and therefore probably have too much sugar in them. I will go shopping now and try to find oat bran!

All this protein is making me feel nauseous. Did that happen to you?

Foreverondiet · 24/01/2011 15:19

Oncemore I have the book and he says you can have 2 fruit yoghurts a day if sweetened with aspartame rather than sugar.

Have had too much dairy today (hardly had any yesterday) so also feel nauseous - I think its dairy that makes me nauseous not protein. Its just yoghurts are easiest to eat at work. Looking forward to roast chicken tonight though! Will be eating slices of meat tomorrow instead!

I bought the oatbran in tesco, it was with the porridge in the cereals aisle.

oncemorewithfeeling · 24/01/2011 16:31

I got the oat bran. There were several brands of it available so clearly not as weird a food as I had thought!

Interesting that you think its dairy that makes you feel queasy forever. May well be right, I had had 2 yoghurts in quick succession! Well done on your weight loss btw. 30 pounds is really amazing and sounds like yo9u are still going strong. My problem is that I tend to lose interest/motivation after 2-3 weeks. But never done this type of diet before...

marmalade32 · 24/01/2011 17:26

Well I now have my graph and chart on Excel ! Am very happy with myself, which I know is a bit sad. I have a giant diagonal line, though which is very motivating. Have to make sure I keep it going.

Foreverondiet · 25/01/2011 09:32

Well exactly 10 stone this morning, wow!

Thats 4lbs in 2 days. Am worried that it will all go back on when I eat some vegetables, I mean how can it be proper weight loss that fast, didn't even loose that much in first week of diet when I was 3 stone overweight. I only have another 7-8lbs to go....

This is day 3 of PP - should I go for a 4th day?

re: soup - get your biggest pot, put in a couple of chickens (best if you can get boiling hens & giblets) and slow cook with onions leeks carrots and parsnips. You don't eat the veggies its just for flavour, cook for several hours, ideally don't boil it (ie best to simmer for several hours). Strain the veggies and chuck out (good if you have baby as you can puree the carros and parsnips for them) - shred bits of chicken into the soup. Add seasoning and freeze in individual portions.

oncemorewithfeeling · 25/01/2011 09:52

Just checking in. Am on day 2, really inspired by those of you managing to consolidate. I want that kind of staying power.

But was interested to note that I am less hungry today than I was yesterday. Strange but true. I think the carbs were making my appetite go nuts. I have felt out of control with food for ages now so this is a new thing. Cautiously happy Smile

greenfig · 25/01/2011 11:17

Well done all, making such good progress!!
How are you today cairns? You must be pretty close to consolidation now? I had no non dukan yest, just didn't think about it which is good news! Am down to 9.9 again & have had a piece of toast with my 2 boiled eggs in a bid to follow consolidation rules! I now understand previous posters issues on consolidation. I find it difficult to think about including bread, cheese & fruit daily, yet that was practically my staple diet! I now think I'll enjoy occasional cheese & bread but hope to consolidate by including other extras as I really enjoy my new eating habits, & certainly the new results! Am off to make some chicken, leek & forbidden sweetcorn soup for lunch!

greenfig · 25/01/2011 11:19

Oh- have also switched to fructose since consolidation. Not really keen to stay on sweeteners long term but need something in my hot drinks! Fructose is lower GI & you need less as is sweeter. Will alert you to any negative results!

cairns · 25/01/2011 13:42

Morning all, well done those on attack hang on in there it doesn't last long. I think I did 5 days attack but am sure 3 would have been ok too I think it helped to get me focused.

Still 9st 11 this am . I am hoping to consolidate close to 60kgs so only 4-5 lbs to go wow. I need to sort my wardrobe out badly it takes me ages in the morning to find something that fits properly Grin

Fab the weight loss is still sticking on consol greenfig. I try to avoid sweetners too tbh, I have managed to wean myself off sweet hot drinks and bizarrely now cannot stand coffee 'sweet'

oncemorewithfeeling · 26/01/2011 09:37

Day 3: am down 1.1kgs Grin
I feel strange, not hungry but weird, esp last night. Stomach was full to be sure but I feel a bit unsettled. Thought I would wake up ravenous but was fine in the morning. Today I will try saving my oat bran for the evening. Think I might find it easier to sleep with some stodge in my stomach.
I filled in the true weight thingy on the dukan website. Deliberately chose a weight some kilos down on what I actually think is realistic just to see if they just give you a weight close to what you put in. They didn't, my true weight is 57kgs which is what I would like to be. That gives me confidence.

It will take me until July to consolidate at 57. Feels like a real reality check. This is a long tough diet. Its really hardcore. Yet the odd thing is having entire foodgroups banned stops that 'oh I will just have a tiny bit of chocolate' thinking I get on ww. Under ww I feel like I am in this constant battle with myself. 'Forgetting' things I ate, trying to save up points, portion sizes creeping back up. Blowing all my points when the handful of crisps I plan on ends up with having scoffed the lot before I 'come too'. I wonder if this is somehow easier. There are strict hard rules. But I am not really hungry, I am not in an endless debate with myself. And the initial weightloss might stop the comfort eating that I have in a diet when I suddenly realise what I actually look like (as opposed to what I look like in my head).

Sorry for the ramble. I am such a newbie. Its day 3! Day 3. I have to go through 4 days attack, 68 days cruise and 97 days consolidation. Wow.

Foreverondiet · 26/01/2011 11:14

Day 4 of attack (will be last day) - down another 1.2lbs, so thats now 5.2 lbs in three days. Hope tomorrow takes me to 6lbs.

Can't really believe it as had reached plateau (have been dieting since 8th October) after having already lost 2 stone.

Went to the gym now and had plenty of energy even though I gave blood yesterday... Solved constipation problem with movicol. Will get some more and take 3 sachets on each PP day.

I am now only 5lbs off original target, although might like to be a little lower (3lbs less)to make it the full three stone back to the weight I was when I got married when I was 22 (1997!).

I think will keep on going on 1:1 until weight loss slows down to 1 lb a week or until I am the lower target whatever is first.

greenfig · 26/01/2011 11:14

once more You sound as though you have a similar path to me looking at your dates. I found that I needed that 'stuffed' feeling at bedtime to begin with as I was in the habit of late night toast! I found that oat bran porridge, cottage cheese, yog or skimmed milk w nutmeg or cocoa & sweetener did the trick. As I got further on I prefered to have porridge for b'fast as it keeps me full to lunch. I have to say I really have NOT found it hard! As I got used to menu planning I have been neither hungry nor felt like I am denying myself. When in need of comfort food I find custard & moussaka do the trick & I am not bored as I eat lots of different fish & use spices & herbs lots. As I lost weight I began to include a little lean lamb & pork fillet on inserts advice to no ill effect.
Am back down to 9.8 3/4 today & had bread, orange,& sweetcorn added for cosolidation. Made a cottage pie topped with mashed swede & parsnip & had mange tout early with babes.
Was looking for something later & although still had cheese & 1 piece of bread allowance settled for cocoa as I didn't fancy it!! Unheard of!!

cairns · 26/01/2011 12:37

good going greenfig I think consolidation is an interesting concept isn't it especially as it is pretty much only dukan that includes it. Is it a mindset thing I wonder. I have found this whole process a mindset shift and when I look at dh eating crisps, chips etc etc I haven't in the slightest been jealous.

Comfort food for me in the evening is a yoghurt, it is funny when i would have previously gone for chocs etc.
There is no way I could have done a ww style diet as I also forget what I have eaten and unsure if I could portion control too.

greenfig · 26/01/2011 13:10

I def feel I've changed my eating habits. In past did 'healthy eating & exercise' but cheated & didn't get fast enough or sustainable results. When I researched other diets that spoke of 'change for life' I'd think 'I don't want to change my eating habits, I just want to lose weight!'. Even when it would help with tummy probs just didn't think I could give up bread, pasta, cheese & alcohol. Dukan seems to have ridded me of those cravings without my realising & so far consolidation seems to be really working as I am including other foods & alcohol without losing control & stuffing it or gaining weight! Hurrah!!
cairns are you feeling the cold? I'm FREEZING since consolidation! Also, is it you doing the shred? Am considering it though I'm crap at disciplining myself to exercise at home...

oncemorewithfeeling · 26/01/2011 13:55

Quick question: can I eat smoked salmon or smoked mackerel in attack phase?

Foreverondiet · 26/01/2011 15:16

I just made oatbran muffins, had 2 for lunch with smoked salmon and fat free cream cheese, will continue to experiment with recipe!!!! Might try and extra egg and less water next time, and maybe use vanilla yoghurt.

Makes 4

100g oatbran
50g water with heaped teaspoon of baking powder dissolved
pinch salt
1 egg
50g fat free natural yoghurt

Bake in muffin cases.

cairns · 26/01/2011 18:47

I had smoked salmon on attack. I think as long as you don't eat tons of the stuff it is ok ( there is a weight limit, anyone know?) I love smoked mackerel too and eat it with a cheeky bit of horseradish.

greenfig I am feeling the cold too I am guessing it is the less layers of fat for insulation Grin . no shred here I run instead (when i get the chance) I think it was lottie who was starting it.

oncemorewithfeeling · 26/01/2011 19:31

Thanks all. I'm really encouraged by others having felt the same early on. greenfig your previous diet experiences really sound v much like mine. I was always quite anti high protein diets as faddy and unhealthy. Now i wonder. My cravings for sugar, biscuits, cake are all gone just now. Maybe a blip, but I think there is really something to this.

Made lovely chicken breast in mustard sauce for dinner, altho I tried to substitute quark for creme fraiche and it curdled a bit. Any advice on how to cook with fat free dairy?*

Keep up the losses (or the consolidating) ladiees. forever I am stunned at 5.2lbs in 3 days esp as you have been dieting already.

greenfig · 27/01/2011 09:17

Did anyone see Dukan featured on the Crash Diet programme last night? I didn't think Dukan came out v well as the woman did attack for 9 DAYS!! This caused constipation & her food looked pretty unappetising too. They then pointed out that long term this could cause gout! I didn't think we were in ketosis on dukan from all veg & oatbran? Also, haven't had bad breath have you?

cairns · 27/01/2011 10:17

I recorded it so will watch later. They always go to extreme with these things for the 'shock' factor. Prior to starting dukan I googled it and all the main papers had written unfavourable articles based on their reporter trying it , when you read the detail and understand the food they ate I am not surprised that is how it was sensationalised!
At the moment I feel v healthy , I crave healthy vegetables , I have cut out refined and processed foods, low alcohol consumption and maybe they should write an article on how bad sugar is for you!

Sorry these type of programs wind me up, dukan is not a quick fix diet either due to consolidation needed ( to make sure we change to healthy eating habits) yet it is portrayed as one. Now Atkins, yes I think that can be bad for you but I will show any dietician the food I have been eating recently compared to before and would dare them to tell me it is 'bad' for me!

Rant over Grin

cairns · 27/01/2011 10:19

How are we all this morning Grin. I am slowly catching up greenfig another lb down!
