Yee hah! Another 1/2lb drop!

cairns · 18/01/2011 14:17

Well done greenfig have you been doing anything different? You are so so close to that target now wow!

No change here today again, but it is nearing totm and this happened last month and I had a sudden drop so hoping for the same. Porridge for brekkie today, chicken soup for lunch and dinner will be chicken curry with red peppers etc and an aubergine concoction.

teenage i feel your pain but tbh 3 lbs in 12 days is not bad at all, i bet it isn't water either.

nursey fab re the jeans. I am going to have to have a wardrobe sort out soon and condemn my fat clothes to the loft. I have had to go shopping for some new jeans as I am now 2 sizes down Grin from when I started. Although I am holding off on a full shopping trip until I reach my target which should hopefully be the motivation to consolidate and not gain it back.

greenfig · 19/01/2011 12:34

cairns I can't say I have done anything different, if anything I've been a bit relaxed - glass wine, roast potato on sunday.. those sort of slips would have cost me @ least a lb early on. You must be due a drop any day now, it always seems to work this way for you. All the way through I have admired how positive you are when you have not shifted (I always get so frustrated!) & yet it does keep working so you are right to be confident!
Good news teenage - my mum is seeing results now (although she's still not convinced!) Also I looked back at my chartBlush & I also had lost 3lbs at 12 days so keep at it!
I am up 1 lb today but wondering if I should start making some adjustments. I would like to introduce some healthy non dukan such as avos, beans & pulses, rice, lo fat houmous etc. This is what I'm missing occasionally, which surprises me. I am quite happy at my new weight & feel that my clothes won't fit & my face may begin to get too thin if I lose any more. Bizzarely I am still approx 6lbs above my lowest post 2dc, I guess its age & been redistributed!
However, I would love to see that 9.7 target on the scales & would hate to damage all the hard work by not consolidating properly...
Any thoughts anybody?

cairns · 19/01/2011 13:02

Thanks greenfig for the positivity. Yep as suspected Totm which does explain things. It is funny how dukan refers to this in his books.

Re consolidating I think it is quite restrictive doing cruise for too long and i also don't want to look 'hagard' so I have been contemplating consolidating too as you will probably still lose and hit your target early on consolidating. What is stopping me starting consolidation is more psychological , I really don't want to ever gain the weight back so I would like to maintain at a number that prevents it (bizarre I know) and for me that is just under 60kgs if I don't then I fear I will allow the weight to creep up and up over time in which it might near 70kg again.

insertexpletive · 19/01/2011 13:52

Hi everyone

greenfig I still continued to lose weight once I started condolidating. I think it is fine to play a bit with the diet tbh.

You can, for example have two slices of bread everyday which I generally do not have, but have been known to have a biscuit or other more carby substitute like a handful of peanuts or pulses.

I have a question for you all - has anyone found a ready made soup that is Dakan friendly? I love M&S soups, but they all seem to be too high carb - any ideas?

Oops! Maybe re-think yesterdays comments slightly! Out for a friends b'day & although I wasn't greedy I had a little of everything except pud. -9.11 this am! I have that same number thing too cairns, I think it's a control thingHmm
insert I can't recommend any soups but have you had a go at batch cooking & freezing small portions? Loads of fab recipes that are suitable & quick, cheap & easy.
Had a real hankering for paella, am going to delay for a few days in spirit of damage limitation!

cairns · 20/01/2011 20:09

Hey lottie well done on getting back to your Xmas weight. I tend to think your 'meh' is prob because you have been on dukan for a while. Whatever works for you and keeps you happy is what I would say as it is important to keep motivated, so if you try a version of dukan but more lo-carbing instead and that works then do it, the losses may be slower but at least you are losing.

Oh dear greenfig ups and downs. I have not been great today (a small muffin and 2 pieces of choc) tbh so I expect to stall again as the smallest thing impacts my loss. Although the amount of walking I have done is staggering today (at least 2 hrs! As dh had the car!) hopefully that makes up for it Grin. I didn't weigh today as feeling bloated etc so will wait a few days I think. I need to get my mojo back to tackle those last few lbs, I keep cheating ( the odd glass of wine, couple of nuts etc) which is what is stalling me I am sure .

cairns · 20/01/2011 20:12

insert I haven't found any soups either that are dukan friendly ad they all have potato, rice etc etc. I agree with greenfig I have got back into making soup again with roasting chickens etc and it really does work to freeze portions.

greenfig · 21/01/2011 09:34

Well done lottie on getting back to lowest. I don't have an issue with the lo fat, infact I feel it's better for me, it's more the good fats from nuts, avocados etc that I feel I wouldn't be happy excluding long term. I try to include as much oily fish as I can to compensate. You know best what you need & you could say give it a week & see how you go.
Having had my 'celebration meal' on thurs, yest just had 1 piece of granary + lots dukan (v hungry for some reason although I was tired) & am down 1lb today. Paella tonight so that will be my weeks carb allowance gone! Will let you know...

cairns · 21/01/2011 14:00

Ooh greenfig glad that lb has come off, keep us updated re consolidation and how you are finding it as it is really interesting to see if you still lose.

lurgy (me) in this house i feel rotten I suspect it is something I ate yesterday when i went out so no dukan until I feel better, all I have had is 3 Ginger biscuits today.

Foreverondiet · 21/01/2011 14:09

Hi have also posted on pig to twig thread, bought dukan book and thinking of giving it a go. Have been doing normal low fat low calorie diet (1200 calories a day) since October, have now lost 2 stone (from 12 5 to 10 4) have one more stone to go but weight loss slowed now.... was initially 2 lbs a week now happy with 1 lbs but some weeks less.

Go to gym 3 x a week. Should I give dukan a go? Is it likely to help me speed things up a bit...

cairns · 22/01/2011 09:09

Woohoo 9st 11 this morning!!! Typical weight loss behaviour by me, nothing for ages then whoosh.

forever welcome, I would do whatever works for you tbh. Dukan is not for all imo it can be quite strict but you do see results and because you can eat when you want and don't count calories etc i quite like it. Although in my case I had quite quick initial loss too and then it has been quite slow and steady too 1-2 lbs a week, I do think it has slowed more the nearer my target I have got.

greenfig · 22/01/2011 10:01

Wey hey cairns!!! Well done youGrin How much more to final target?
Had 2 glasses wine & paella last night only 1/4lb up this am so feel cosolidation seems to be working ok so far. No bread, fruit or cheese but since I was so concerned that 1 glass of wine could put on at least 1lb in early days feel confident. Lets see how much damage I can do in 1 week! Am 1 1/2 lbs up on lowest weight but have had weeks carb & celebration meal all ready.
Welcome forever I would suggest give dukan a go for a change as much as anything. I find it fits in with life, it works but may not be any quicker for you. I have lost an average 2lbs a week with minor cheats most weeks as a guide. I have had 1 1/2 stone to lose.

marmalade32 · 22/01/2011 10:14

Oh dear - I have just weighed myself-trying to do it once a week so I dont get too worried if I don't lose every day. I lost 9 lbs in 9 days but now 17 days in and only lost another 4lbs. so 13 in total. I have a lot to lose so thought I would have lost more, seeing as it's just the first few weeks. Anyone got any advice ? I'm drinking all the fluid, but I have only managed 2 walks because of work and DH's shifts this week. I also think maybe I'm not eating enough. Typical day is - muller light with fibre sure, psyliium husks for breakfast, boiled eggs and ham for mid morning then usually rest of day is chicken breast, muller light with the oatbran and maybe a tin of tuna. I'm finding I'm not very hungry all the time, so sometimes don;t even have both the tuna and the chicken. Can anyone give me any tips, please ?

insertexpletive · 22/01/2011 14:20

I definately lost more when I ate more (of the right foods!) Don't go too long inbetween meals - you want to keep your body ticking over, not in starvation mode.

In terms of walking - If I can't get one in, I do the stairs for 10-15 mins after I put the dc to bed.

Keep going, and remember, if you are anywhere close to TOTM you will stall, but should see a loss 'jump' afterwards.

Good Luck.

marmalade I think that's a fantastic result, you should be proud of yourself! Almost 1lb a day ave 61/2 lbs a week go girl! If you could sustain this sort of loss you will have lost your cravings, be much healthier with a good BMI in no time. I really don't think you should be disheartened, it's not supposed to be a crash diet.

marmalade32 · 22/01/2011 22:09

Very true Greenfig - I have lost my cravings most of the time, although there is a bar of Galaxy that's been in the fridge for DH for 3 days now. I'm sure it's talking to me in my sleep. I need to get it in perspective I think - it is a good loss in just over 2 weeks. And insert the stair thing is an excellent idea. I can put my ipod on and be done in no time. I'll be more disciplined about eating regularly, even if it's just a little something.

marmalade I've had many charts to keep the motivation!Blush A daily loss, days of week across top then numbers under. Even as I've fluctuated up & down within a week I can see I often have my lowest dip mid-week & my week on week losses ie mon-mon/wed-wed /sat-sat has always gone down even though daily weigh in goes up & down. Also a weekly loss & total loss a la Blue Peter & a graph!![shocked] cairns even worked out our % loss once & it has all really helped, I know it sounds silly. *cairns has always managed to stay v positive whereas I went into a complete decline whenever I stalled, that's where the charts helped me to see the progress I've made & stay motivated. It also helped me to recognise patterns such as I often go up slightly following a new low but quite quickly drop back down again. Your weekly weigh in may not have shown further losses that you may quickly drop to again. It could be worth a try for you, just don't tell anyone!...

marmalade32 · 23/01/2011 19:56

I'm doing percentages too - my first goal is 10% of body weight. I'm getting some digital scales tomorrow, at the minute I'm at Boots. I'll weigh myself at Boots then on my scales to see if there's any difference. I may as well start properly. I think if I weigh myself every couple of days I might get a bit more of an accurate picture - it'll probably help me see if maybe I'm eating some things that don't work for me. I will take the sillyness further - I'm going to ask the business analyst at work tomorrow, to show me how to plot it on Excel ! I like to see the downward line on a chart to prove its working !!! I've just had 4 mini, very mini onion bajis, which aren't great for you but it was my nephews leaving do to move to france and I had to have something as MIL was getting paranoid I hated her food. I'm not going to stress though as they were small, so I know if I've gained a pound it'll come off.

cairns · 23/01/2011 19:57

Hope everyone has had a good weekend.
Glad consolidation is still going well greenfig.
Still 9st 11 here yippee so that should stick.

I am a massive charter too it really helps me to focus through the plateaus which do happen and it helps to understand why you may not be losing eg totm etc. Dukan recommends weighing daily too. I also think this thread helps provide the motivation too (which is why i post a lot Grin and for me greenfig has really helped as we had similar targets and weight loss goals so helps to keep track, share and support.

It helps to stay positive as it makes it a lot easier to stick with it if you are feeling happy, what helps me is to focus on what you have already lost and how good that makes you feel, not what you haven't. The first month was a transformation for me and clothes fitted better, could get into some old jeans etc and it really helps keep you going as you know it works! Tbh dukan does say the initial loss will slow down so you have to keep going at it bit by bit and it will come off.

marmalade32 · 23/01/2011 19:58

And I'm goin to take inserts suggestion and do 10 mins on the stairs whilst watching Dancing on ice through the doorway !

Foreverondiet · 23/01/2011 20:45

Had a terrible saturday foodwise as was invited out for lunch and dinner and ate too much (although did manage to avoid desert on both occasions). Weight this morning was therefore more than last weeks weigh in. Oh dear.

Have done my first Dukan day today, interestly only ate 1000 calories (wasn't hungry for more), although will find it hard as love fruit and veggies. Am going to aim for 3 protein days in a row, but if I am finding it ok will do 4 or 5.

marmalade I have tanita body fat scales and I totally love them, seeing the weight as well as the fat coming off. I think boots have some good offers on body fat scales, def worth it. I weigh myself every day.

Foreverondiet · 24/01/2011 09:14

OMG - did one day so far of Dukan, yesterday and this morning was 3lbs lighter that day before, thats 2.5lb lighter than lightest weight on diet so far. After being on weight loss plateau for several weeks (hardly surprising as have lost over 2 stone already).

Will try and continue with it, although find only eating protein very unpleasant, and really really don't want to suffer from constipation (do you think ok to take movicol as precaution?)
