So today is D day! Diet starts today, I have my first slimming world class tonight and i am feeling quite motivated. I think I probably have around 3 stones to lose, but i would be happy to even lose 2. I just feel fat and unhealthy and have never been this big before!

So today is day 1 of sorting myself out! Just wondered if anyone else was starting today too, not just slimming world, but any thing, and wanted to have somewhere to chat, swap ideas, or get some moral support?

Lol at 'boob issues'!

Welcome Red. The slow cooker is your friend I find. Did this yesterday in it. Made half the recipe and used turkey instead of beef, it came to 2.5 syns per serving as served two. Did it with it with frozen green beans and egg noodles which only took a few minutes to cook. DD really loved it. Bolognese tonight which took 10 mins earlier to whack in slow cooker, then just the time to do the pasta later. Srirfrys are great. Put the meat in marinade in the fridge in the morning then it's just a stirfry job later whilst the egg noodles cook. Asda do a lovely chickpea Dahl that is free and handy to have in the cupboard .

Stews and casseroles, again the slow cooker comes into its own here, then the microwave quickly for jacket spud or rice.

This thread is so big now, so much to catch up on everytime I come on! Smile

I have had a very bad weekend (well foodwise, I actually had a very nice weekend Grin) so weigh in last night I put on 1lb. To be honest it could have been much worse.

I honestly just can't get back into it, I felt really motivated before and now I just can't get the same motivation or enthusiasm for it now.

I know it is party because every day after work i am still having to go up and visit my mum, and do everything for her, then by the time i get home i can't really be bothered/have time to start making things from scratch as i still also have to do my own housey stuff/help with homework etc, I feel tired and as if i am constantly playing catch up and never really getting there!

I know i sound horrible and don't grudge helping my mum at all and i am glad she is starting to feel a bit better, but i long to one day just come straight home from work and do nothing!

Anyway, I have made syn free soup tonight, so at least i have something on standby, and I will try to stop eating rubbish, and stop moaning and get a grip and try to lose this week Grin

Rial for a low fat alternative to wine have you tried the low calorie wine or the WW wine, i haven't myself, but my friend sometimes has the WW wine and thinks it is quite nice, although i don't know what the syns would be.

I am also going to start using the slow cooker, i think if i can be organised enough in the morning then it could be the answer to my problems, well it would be if DD didn't turn her nose up at stews. Might try to find low cal curry slow cooker recipes.

Lulu, you'll do it, you seem so determined and like you know what works/doesn't work for you.

UGH, I have been bad.
Fell face first into the pot of Halloween minibars (local kids have grown up and are too big for Trick or Treating now, loads left) then past two days have had hideous cold and not eaten enough. Which I know makes me gain/retain.

Not looking forward to tomorrow.

DontCallMeBaby · 02/11/2010 21:11

I've made it to a stone! A stone exactly, just a pound over the last week ... now 3lb off Club 10. Yay!

I will miss next week's weigh-in though, and will be having a disastrous week, I can't see how I can avoid it. I'm going away with work for two nights, then got the day off on Friday and going out for lunch and a few drinks with my team, well, my ex-team, as we've just kind of imploded. I figure if I'm careful with breakfast and lunch while away, try not to drink TOO much, and make sure I go for a swim both nights, AND be careful either side of the trip, things may not be too disastrous.

upsydaisysexstylist · 02/11/2010 21:29

Wynken described the sucess express much better than I would/could. MY group had doubled their losses from last week with maybe half to 2/3s doing it, so obviously works with lots of us losing around 3lbs. Lost 3lb doing it for 3 days then ee for rest as difficult to do if out for day , feel have my mojo back and am now under 15stone for first time in 5years. Also won raffle for those who had done the sucess express so have new christmas book to look at. Already fancy prawn, ginger and chilli cakes which are a kind of thai light. Think I could eat all 12 that the recipe makes though.
Well done DMB and Lulu you sound back on track now,

maygirl · 02/11/2010 21:48

Hi, I've been doing SW since April (DC2 born feb) but only just lost that first stone- after being put on success express by new SW leader!

But now down into next stone bracket and feeling more motivated than ever, need to run with it now!

I'm breastfeeding so get an extra HE but don't always use it, as weight loss been so slow and had no supply issues skipping it.

Loving the slimmingeats site, thanks for that!

findingtheRialme · 02/11/2010 22:52

yay for the parents eve news. DS1 spent most of primary in that kind of position, and we got told he gave "as good he he gets" SadAngry Lots of other issues too (that he was slated for) and he is finally having proper dyslexia tests in year 9SadAngry

well done on losses and welcome to abyone newSmile

I was doing so well today. fab lunch and brekkie, 2 dance classes this morning (sweating like a revolting mad-thing. but I did the dance rightGrin), then after a mountain of ironing I fell into the biscuitsBlush Am having a couple of glasses of wine tonight then my mojo will be back tomorrow.

DS1 is cooking at school tomorrow, so I have to confess I am dreading teaBlush (he is making pasta, with smoked bacon and cheese, neither of which I eat, but as he is only meant to be serving 4,maybe i can make a EE pasta type dish for me and if I have a taste the others can eat it) Inspired by Melty adapting recipes I was planning the John Torode slow-roast pork with butter bean stew from the Good Food mag I bought DH when he was in hospital (adapted for SW), with harrisa roasted root veg and jacket spuds... will have that Thursday I suppose.

I like the idea of "mischiefing" being liked to Guy FawkesSmile (not that I ever have - my mum is too scary!!! she is well aware of it thoughHmm think she is not as good as she makes out!)

findingtheRialme · 02/11/2010 23:04

am not sure sure about the trousers thing TBH. Mine are OK to come down without being undone, but yesterday i wore a pair that weren't content with that, and were trying to come down on their own whilst I was in town, and intent on bringing my undergarments with them!!! Also, damn ill-fitting bras. My Dsis gave me some alsmost new fantasie ones which should fit perfectly, but they seem to be too bigSad. Don't want to go and get measured until am sure I am smaller though.

Melty · 02/11/2010 23:43

What size are they Ria?
What size is your back measurement?
Lets see if we can do an online measuring attempt?

I totally understand the knickers coming down thing. My trousers were big, but high waisted so weren't falling down over hips. However knickers were, and not content with falling down, they were getting themselves almost inside out, which I discovered when I took myself off to the loo to sort them out as I wasnt able to hitch them up!
They're now in the bin!
And yummy, I like that pork!

DCMB, well done! That stone is an important first hurdle!

Lizzy, did someone naughty trip you into that pot? Grin Dont worry about tomorrow. One of the things we have to stop doing is feeling guilty, and that goes for Ria too. Most of us are brought up to feel guilty about over eating, but we are all here on this thread because we do overeat.
And when we feel bad or guilty, what do we do?
Thats right, we overeat more. Vicious circle.

Eating is good, we need food to survive after all, and if we make a bad choice one day, then let it go.
Make better choiced the next day.
If we dont lose one week, or gain a little, well it will all work itself out in the end.

Success express: I haven't found anything in my books fom SW
Doesnt look that complicated, but I imagine its difficult to decide if we have more than 1/3 free food when it goes into the lunchbox!
Red is easier for me this week as its mad at work. Ate out again tonight, and did have a dessert, but it was a tiny (about the size of a 50p coin) flour free chocolate melt in middle torte with a similar sized scoop of ice cream. Roasted chicken breast, and spinach. No chips! Poached egg starter on a passata and basil bed, so dont think too bad. No rubbish all day, plenty of fruit. HEB olive oil with HEB wholemeal bread at meal.
If I maintain this week, I'll be happy.

maygirl · 02/11/2010 23:58

Success Express- I've slipped up when start off the day doing it, but then decide to go EE for dinner as looks yummy and spent ages cooking the free food bit and want more than 1/3!, but realise have already eaten 2HEBs! And forgetting can't snack on muller lights, only have as a dessert.

Bra wise- could you buy the smaller back size now and get those extender things??

Keziahhopes · 02/11/2010 23:59

Well, after a disasterous week last week when I put on 2lb (comfort eating!) I have lost 1lb of it, so feel better for that and more determined to get to my Club 10 Target. It took me 4 months to get my first stone and now I seem stuck on 1lst 2lb loss. Maygirl and Don'tcallmebaby - it is great you got that first stone done, hope the next part of your loss goes well.

Elizabeth, would it help you if you went to the suprermarket and picked up lots of meals that needed minimum work but fitted SW? Tonight I went to Sainsbury's after being weighed and was too tired to cook at 8pm, so bought a pack of nice stir fry veg, boiled some rice while I did jobs at home and added some chili sauce (that was the only syns)?? Or some ready meals are very low syn? Just randome thoughts, feel free to ignore.

ditavonteesed · 03/11/2010 07:23

well I have maintained, which I am so chuffed with like someone said earlier I will see this as practice for that day a long way off when we have to maintain. Grin moved up to level 2 of the shred and forgot that I had done it, woke up this morning thinking my legs are aching a bit and couldn't work out why.

Lulumaam · 03/11/2010 07:33

anyone got any ideas what to do with chicken breast that's easy and low syn/syn free.. i've got 12 mini fillets defrosting and sick of soy sauce and rice vinegar!

upsydaisysexstylist · 03/11/2010 09:00

Lemon juice and lots of sage is lovely esp if part of a stew

Melty · 03/11/2010 10:47

Try this:Bill Grangers Curried Chicken Rice

Very easy and very tasty.

findingtheRialme · 03/11/2010 11:19

thanks MeltySmile
will measure when I have my bath in a minute. Just been to a Zumba classSmile, next week (if Iget through the door - confidence issuesBlush) I am going to pay for the rest of the weeks up til xmas. The people who run the gym are a mum and dad from school so have to be able to deal with seeing them every day if I give it up again! It is a good 20 min walk to the gym too, and up a hill!
am planning bacon and egg with bubble and squeak, mushrooms and beans for lunch, and will do myself plain pasta with peppers, mushrooms and either bacon or chicken for tea, while the others have DS1s creation. have pineapple and strawberries in the fridge tooSmile

have a good day (scarily, I think exercise puts me in a good moodShock)

whatkungfuthat · 03/11/2010 12:46

Rial, I think the good mood is to do with releasing endorphins or something. Got weigh-in tonight, can't switch groups as I planned until next week as I have to go to a school thing tomorrow when the other group is on.

Hello and welcome to any new people Smile I'm seriously thinking of giving the express thing a go from tomorrow.

izquierda · 03/11/2010 13:15

Hi ladies, have been enjoying reading your messages.

I've done SW on and off since 1998 when I first lost 21 lbs after having my kids.

I keep getting to my target then letting myself go again!

So I rejoined about 7 weeks ago. Trouble is, I only really need to lose about 10 lbs this time but I'm finding it SO hard!

Harder than ever before, and yet I know full well that the plans work if you follow them.

I joined this time with a friend who has nearly 2 stone to lose and she's doing really well, lost 9lbs in 7 weeks.

I lost 6.5 lbs in 4 weeks then was ill and missed a week, when I went back I'd put 1.5 lbs back on. This week I lost 1 lb so have lost 6 lbs in 7 weeks, which for me seems very poor progress and I guess I am beating myself up.

I'm now 51 (the first time I did SW I was only 38) and know I am well into the menopause so weight seems to really stick around my middle. On previous SW campaigns I have done so much better.

Sorry, I know there will be lots of lovely ladies out there thinking - what's she moaning about with only 10 lbs to lose! But it's not the number of pounds it's the fact I can't seem to "do the work" like I did before!

Anyone out there of a similar age/also menopausal etc etc who can offer me any moral support as I feel like saying stuff it at the moment!

Good luck to you all, there are some great posts on the board which I find very encouraging. Sorry for moaning...xxxx

Lulumaam · 03/11/2010 14:18

curried rice looks good, will give that a whirl tonight.. will be syn free i think on ee >

Melty · 03/11/2010 14:52

Yes it is, as long as you remember the super free veg! and don't use a tablespoon of olive oil!

Lulumaam · 03/11/2010 16:02

I won't !! got my frylight and fat free yoghurt, going to have green beans and sugar snaps with it, not very authentic with curry, but it's the veg i've got in !!!

Lulumaam · 03/11/2010 16:27

am making it now, will report back !used some fat free yog to marinade it with the spices

ditavonteesed · 03/11/2010 16:30

hey iz, 6lbs is really good, my weight loss has been really slow and I have quite a lot to lose, the key is sticking to it and not giving up. I carry all my weight around my middlr too and it is really hard to shift my waist measurement is well above the recommended maximum.
for tea here having pasta, bacon, mushrooms an dparmesan, yium looking forward yo it already just got to wait for dh to get home, haven't shreded today but have spent the whole day cleaning so thats got to count for something. I am, going to look at upping the excercise in Jan whean dd2 starts school.
on a long term basis sil's wedding is in June and quick reminder for myself and anyone else who hasn't seen the dress that I intend to be wearing. Grin

Lulumaam · 03/11/2010 16:32
