So today is D day! Diet starts today, I have my first slimming world class tonight and i am feeling quite motivated. I think I probably have around 3 stones to lose, but i would be happy to even lose 2. I just feel fat and unhealthy and have never been this big before!

So today is day 1 of sorting myself out! Just wondered if anyone else was starting today too, not just slimming world, but any thing, and wanted to have somewhere to chat, swap ideas, or get some moral support?

Hi Izq, I am a bit fustrated with the rate of my loss. To be fair I have lost a fair bit but I kind of thought I'd be averaging 2lbs a week as I have 7 stone to lose overall. It's working out at about 1.5lbs a week which I know is great but am worried it will slow down.

I'm 41 but I am fairly sure I have been perimenopausal the last year or so as I get night sweats, my hairs falling out, I find it much harder to sleep, my periods have gone from being very regular to being all over the shop and I've gone from being big all over to accumulating more round my middle. The lady behind me at class last week as she gained and said she is finding it really hard.

Another friend has pointed out that most people are gaining at this point so to be losing anything is good and I guess that is true.

Dita I really do love the dress ! Ria well done on the exercise.

Kungfu, will be interested in how you get on if you do SE, maybe I should do a few days. I think the inceased healthy extras will seem like a hit of a treat .

Lulu, looking forward to your report on that recipe, could be my Saturday night curry sorted for this week.

Veg chilli and jacket spud for tea here tonight in a last ditch attempt to get as much veg as possible before tomorrow's weigh in.

Lulumaam · 03/11/2010 17:04

i find it hard to always have loads of veg with each meal so have fruit or carrot sticks afterwards...

Lizzylou · 03/11/2010 17:12

Thanks Melty, you are so good at giving great pep talks Smile

Ria, I have been going to Zumba, I love it. I actually come out grinning from ear to ear, it's so funny and I am so uncoordinated. I know a step class/running may burn more calories but Zumba is waaay more enjoyable.

Fab dress Dita, I find Level 2 shred the worst, kills me.

Izq, I have done SW about 4 times in my life, this time for some reason it feels a bit harder.

Weigh in tonight, may strip down to undies so I won't have gained!

Fruitgums · 03/11/2010 17:22

Hello all,

I am newbie to this thread. I've joined SW last week & having my first weigh in tonight. I thought that I've been doing well but when I weighed myself this morning I've put.... due to the time of the month! Not looking forward to the weigh in tonight!

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you lovely ladies!

Melty · 03/11/2010 18:06

God, this thread moves fast!

Elizabeth, dont give up.
Just try and make healthy choices until you get your head back in the Zone again. And keep coming here. Smile

Izq, I think lots of women find it harder round the menopause, because the drop in oestrogen causes us to store fat around our middle. Lovely what we women have to put up with...
I think the important thing is to focus on where you are.
10lbs is no small amount, (well it might be in comparison to the 5 stone I have left to lose!)so just go with your body. I think most people who haven't got too far to go to get to target find it slows down anyway.
Just be patient, and keep a food diary.
And well done for starting when you have only got 10lbs to lose. You could be me and have waited til you had 6stone 3 lbs to lose.......

You know Lulu, you might just have identified your problem. If you eat your red/green stuff all at once and have the veg/fruit afterwards, you probably wont have room left. Try to have the free veg/fruit first and then fill up on the rest.
I bet you will find you wont eat as much.
Dita, well done for maintaining.
Hi Fruitgums, welcome to the madhouse. Hope weigh in goes well. If not, keep on track and do the diary.

izquierda · 03/11/2010 18:13

Thanks for the encouragement, wynkn, lizzy and dita - your dress is lovely.

I am a bit of a cup-half-empty type - I am over halfway to target but was used, in the past, to losing a couple of pounds each week, but I was a lot younger.

So, am trying not to be too hard on myself.

Made a standard, but very tasty, veg. chilli for tea using quorn - ever so filling and enough left over to go on a jacket potato tomorrow. Planning ahead is key isn't it?

Perhaps I need to fix on a new frock (dita has inspired me!)

Know what you all mean about the dreaded weigh-in. Is anyone else as stupid as me, practically starving themself SW-day? Why do I do that - it doesn't work!

Melty · 03/11/2010 18:17

Everybody does that I think. Lightest clothes, (completely weather inappropriate!)no belts,or jewellery... Anyone go knickerless?
Its why I weigh in in the morning. (am not going to class, just doing it with some friends)
Its all in the mind!

Lizzylou · 03/11/2010 18:24

There is a woman in class who always weighs in, then goes to the loo. Then comes back for another weigh!

If I wasn't such a biffa I'd strip to bra and pants tonight to be honest Grin

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 03/11/2010 18:51

I was behind someone changing out of jeans into leggings and out of a jumper into a vest top. She had a pound to go to target but put on half, really felt for her.

DontCallMeBaby · 03/11/2010 18:58

I do go to weigh-in half-starved - but I have a good(ish) reason for it. :o The first time I went I needed to go for 6.30 rather than the 7.00ish at which I waltz in these days. Once I'd got DD home from trampolining it was about 10 past, so I had time to get something on the table for her and DH, but not for me to eat. After that, I now have to go without eating, or it wouldn't be a fair comparison ... I have succumbed to removing all my jewellery if I don't feel like I've had a good week.

whatkungfuthat · 03/11/2010 19:06

Hi everyone, weighed in and lost 2 pounds (over 2 weeks) but have a cats-bum face as I was hoping for 3 as that would have made 3 stone lost. I am def. going to try the express thingy from tomorrow, does anyone know how long are you supposed to do it for? On a positive note I really think the abs exercises on shred will do some good, I measured myself round the waist today (don't ask!) and will do it again next week to see.

Hello and welcome izq Smile

Lulumaam · 03/11/2010 19:12

the curried chicken rice that was linked to earlier was delish !

i used fat free yoghurt mixed with the curry powder etc to marinate the chicken and then as a dip on the side.. i used frylight too, so essentially syn free on EE...had it with green veg and followed by fruit.

really hoping for a loss at next weigh in after this week's disappointment

enough curry left over for my dinner tomorrow, i also made a veg & tomato free soup for lunch

the local greengrocer sells ready prepped soup veg, fry it off in a bit of frylight, then add chicekn/veg stock cube and water and a tin of tomatoes, et voila.. free soup in minutes !

Melty · 03/11/2010 19:32

Good stuff Kung Fu, and take that face off, its still going in the right direction!

Meant to say Kesiah, good on you getting back on track again.

Heh Lulu, mine is in the oven.

I like Spicy Red Pepper soup. (My own recipe)
4 Red peppers, chopped,
2 Carrots chopped,
2 Red onions chopped,
1 tsp chili flakes,
1 clove of garlic squashed.
Can of chopped tomatoes
1 tsp splenda
I never bother with the frying, just bung the whole lot in a saucepanpan with a pint of stock. Bring to boil and simmer until all the veg are soft. You might need to add more stock if it looks too thick.
Blend and add salt/pepper to taste
For a more filling meal, I sometimes add Orzo pasta to bulk it up. Free on EE.

A friend of mine gave me a Bill Granger cookbook for Christmas, a few yrs ago, and its brilliant. He does lots of simple but very tasty recipes, and I find them very easy to adapt for SW.

Lulumaam · 03/11/2010 19:55

that also sounds nice !
i've been doing a bit of digging around on teh SW forums etc.. and i think the potatoes are the problem. as i've been having them as crisps/chips which some consultants says then makes yhem synnable. same as drying/juicing fruit makes it synnable.. so am going to leave them well alone for now and see if that helps!

Melty · 03/11/2010 20:21

Potaotes themselves arent the problem, its the proportion in relation to the other food.
They are no worse than rice or pasta. So if you want sw chips as part of a meal, have them, just make sure the portions are right with your superfree stuff. The idea is you then eat a "normal" balanced diet.
The key is a wide variety and everything in moderation. (my friend recons the more colour on the plate, the healthier it it, and I think shes right.)

Ive just eaten my curried chicken rice. And am stuffed. I had a big portion of spinach and some of the rice and chicken. Then I fancied some more so I quickly julienned a carrot, microwaved it and had another portion. Overall I think I just had a nrmal sized dinner, but because there was so much veg, I now feel completely stuffed and satisfied.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 03/11/2010 21:00

Well done Kungfu. I had catsbum face last week as did exactly the same, 2lbs but over 2 weeks but had wanted 3. Have been really really good this week and eaten loads of superfree so am hoping for a decent one tomorrow.

Will definitely try that chicken recipe, sounds good. Am watching Nigel Slater not being very SW friendly atm.

I am a bit suspicious of the SW crips but not the chips for the reason Lulu said. Can't help feeling that the dehydrating them in the microwave means you'd eat more than you would if you cooked them by any other methods . Any other cooking method and I think it is as Melty says, potato to superfree veg, crispsI probably would syn. But then I syn couscous cake when I know some people don't.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 03/11/2010 21:11

But on reflection, Melty loses shed loads more than me so listen to her!

findingtheRialme · 03/11/2010 23:52

I have made 2 batches of the "crisps" and feel they are reasonably nice, so probably count as synsSad (can't get it quite right though, and have had cinders and soft potatoBlush) can't quite get why green days work (or used to work before EE) with this in mind...

as a miserable type (without my added MH issues when they flare up) I have never had the endorphins thing before. I like it! Surely Zumba must burn off a fair few calories though? (more calorie burning than toning perhaps?) (is "sweating like a pig" TMI? does excess weight come out in sweat???Wink)

patricia,
Have a Biscuit and do take yourself for a lovely long jog.
you have to pay to advertise on here.
and we are a group of women who are changing or outlook to life, our health and lastly our weight with sensible and healthy eating and excercise not buying into gimmicks.

ditavonteesed · 04/11/2010 07:14

ria I could really fancy Zumba but i have so little coordination that i would make a tit of myself.
kungfu, 2lbs is 2lbs no matter which way you look at it, it is 2lbs of fat that is no longer on your body. Grin
lul I know what you mean about the crsips and chips, they dissapear in seconds where a whole potato would take ages to eat so it might be that they need sinning.
I go to weigh in thirsty, opne week I had a lot of tea to stop me being hungry as noit having dinner till i GET BACK definatley affected my weight loss.
Elizabeth just make the best food choices you can, one day you will get your mojo back but you have far more important things to worry about right now.
Iz the dress thing really works, it has got to be for something in the future though not in a fortnight Wink

Lulumaam · 04/11/2010 07:23

exactly dita! and slimming world is nto a strict diet

Melty · 04/11/2010 07:52

Its bonkers the way your mind works sometimes.
Well, the way my mind works sometimes.

I have been feeling guilty about the big blow out on Monday night, not to mention the other treats that have been lying around the office, although to be fair, I have really only had half a packet of love hearts, and about 6 celebration sweeties and 1 Gu Rocky Road piece, since Monday. I reigned it in for the Tuesday meal, and have had "proper" red day meals until last night when I had that glorious EE meal.
But because I have felt bad, I have felt really blobby and fat.
Trying to beat that feeling, I stood on the scales and I am exactly the same as on Sunday weigh in. And on top of that, my new/old Jaeger Trousers are better around my waist/middle. ie suitable for wearing in public.

So now, my mood has completely turned around, and I feel skinny, plus my droopy belly overhang that makes me wear big knickers is not so droopy. (Although weirdly I didnt notice that until this morning)

Psychology of it all is very interesting. It's so easy to give other good advice, but I cant seem to listen to my own pep talks!

whatkungfuthat · 04/11/2010 08:24

Patricia I won't be 'russian' to buy your empty promises so do one!

Morning everyone, Less cats bummy today as my abs ache meaning that the shred must be working and I can almost wear a purple silky raincoat that had a gap of about 6 inches edge to edge before I started all this. melty the more I read your posts the more it brings home to me how I haven't been doing this properly. Some of this goes back to the initial meeting when we just had the books thrown at us and told a bit about EE, there was no emphasis on the third superfree. I have been living on Mullerlight during the day!

A quick recce of the fridge tells me that I haven't got enough stuff for express but shopping tomorrow so I can plan. Will make today a red day as I have chicken breasts, peppers, onions, passata etc. so will bung all this in together for tonight. That also means that I can use my HE's for cheese on toast with diced onion underneath for lunch Smile.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 04/11/2010 08:32

Dita , a vitual syn free biscuit, inspired! Reported pink tinned stuff earlier. Currently engaging in pre weigh ritual so back later to catch up properly.
