So today is D day! Diet starts today, I have my first slimming world class tonight and i am feeling quite motivated. I think I probably have around 3 stones to lose, but i would be happy to even lose 2. I just feel fat and unhealthy and have never been this big before!

So today is day 1 of sorting myself out! Just wondered if anyone else was starting today too, not just slimming world, but any thing, and wanted to have somewhere to chat, swap ideas, or get some moral support?

bubble and squeak and a chicken stir fry/curry/pasta bake? yum.

yay MeltySmile well done.

my boys made me breakfast in bed this morning, on a tray, with my little teapot, and jam in a tiny bowl etc. Sadly they used the furry bread (was keeping for duck feeding), so made it up to me with white buttery toast.Hmm

DH has had a lovely day out at his posh friends dinner party (passing his cooking off as hersHmm), and eating well too. I got a reduced-to-clear chicken "mini roast" for the boys, and I have lots of veg left to make a nice bubble and squeak for myself. Cottage pie tomorrowSmile

The mojito sounds nice. I may give it a try now I know it's not complicated, but maybe I really need to just be firm with myself and cut the wine out. Will have to this week as I have xmas decorations to sew for a fundraiser at the weekend!

whatkungfuthat · 31/10/2010 21:05

Rial definitely try the Mojito, I did mine with sainsburys lime juice. I had no trick or treaters (think the rain was to blame) so now have a cauldron full of fun size chocs, grrr. Will ask DP to hide for xmas!

findingtheRialme · 31/10/2010 21:08

(sorry, still trying to fox the PC)

had a walk of about an hour this morning too, am going to try and walk more this week now the boys are back at school. I have one birthday this week (my dads - it will require chocolate cake), but nothing else that ought to hinder me food-wiseBiscuit

DS1 is watching Colditz and it is making me feel very anxious and nervy - bloody tunnels! Am glad halloween is over too (bah humbug). We had someone knock earlier and it was as if they were trying to break the door down (I expect they were "friends" of DS1) Have had some bad vandalism down our street this week too (we live in a quiet place where trouble is fairly rare) so I think everyone is on edge about that.Sad What do you guys know about "Mischief Night"? I was talking to a neighbour earlier and he said he'd never heard of it until he moved to this area. Itis "traditionally" the 4th Nov (my dad's birthday!) here, but DS1 said there is talk at school that it is the night before halloweenHmm

blimey, even last night's Strictly is scary (think i must be a bit patheticBlush)

good luck for all the weigh-ins tomorrowSmile

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 01/11/2010 07:53

Wrap dresses and Bravissimo bras it is then! I measured myself and am 40 now across my back which is an improvement. Will try a couple off the website but if they don't fit it'll have to be a trip somewhere. Having stared at Ann Widecombe in horror, I am worried I might follow in her footsteps soon as my bras get too big.

Melty what an utter twat that boy was all those years ago, horrible age for someone to say that. DD is quite self concious at 11 about being skinny as she often gets told. Can't help seeing the irony of that, she definitely has DH's genes!

Lulu, good luck tonight, fingers firmly crossed for a good one. And to everyone else who is weighing tonight, I've lost track, sorry.

Kungfu, you're back on track, well done.

Keziah, knowing you truly fit a size rather than kid yourself you do is one of those good moments to savour in this whole SW thing, well done.

Dontcallme, congrats on your turnip free status ! Good thinkng to stick it in with the roast.

Rial, sewing is a good way of keeping hands busy and off Halloween chocs, might have to adopt that one. Never heard of the mischief thing.

We also didn't have anyone knock last night. Don't know why I bought sweets really as no one ever finds us but I thought the new streetlight might make a difference this year. DH got the fire going, I had pumpkin soup and we watched a film by pumpkin light, and watched the dog be confused about bedtime due to the time change. Just need to pretend to myself there aren't chocolate buttons in the house now, maybe not the best choice I could have made!

ditavonteesed · 01/11/2010 08:03

hio everyone, I'm back, about time. such a bad weekend, had some friends over sat night, which was lots of fun, they left about 1-1.30 girls got up at 5.20, so yesterday was purely an endurance test to survive, I took them out to a carvery as I really couldn't face cooking and was asleep on the sofa at 7.30pm Blush dh home today so he will make me get back on track.
dreading to think what I have put on this week and only 3 and a half weeks until big night out. size 16 jeans that I could barely get into are now falling down but 14's are still muffin toptastic. I have a really nice size 14 shirt corsety type thing that I would really like to wear on my night out, it is about an inch from zipping up at the moment.
going to do myself scrambled eggs for breakfast after I have dropped the kids off then take dog out for a nice long walk. then got to do argos for girls xmas pressies (I know it's too early but they had what they want and 25% off). dh home about lunch time I think, really looking forward to seeing him.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 01/11/2010 08:05

Dita, are you still doing WW? If so, will you fill us in on the changes they are doing next week, I've heard the gist of it but am very interested how it works in practice.

ditavonteesed · 01/11/2010 08:08

Havne't been to meeting for a few weeks so can't really go as will have to pay for all the issed weeks Sad am also interested will try and find out some how.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 01/11/2010 08:08

That was spooky, you appeared as I was typing to you! You're raising the bar with your 14's, well done. 3.5 weeks could make quite a difference to muffin toppage I reckon.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 01/11/2010 08:12

It gets cheaper to join as a new member after a bit. There is going to be loads off stuff online but supposedly in Europe, the leader allocates your pro points allowance so the issue will be knowing what you are on if it is the same here. I found a free pro points calculator and pointed up an Alpen light which came out higher at 2 points. Not that I'm planning on switching, I just like to keep my options open in case I get really hacked off with SW and want a change at some points.

whatkungfuthat · 01/11/2010 08:22

Morning everyone. I did WW a few years back, lost loads and put it back on Blush It was definitely more flexible than SW but easier to kid yourself IYSWIM. What would worry me in changing is this weird alchemy that SW has if you go off track a bit, as you seem to gain loads really quickly. My friend gained 7 lbs one week because she'd had a McDonalds and a few other bits, but when we did WW we could include Mc'D's on our points and not go over. Perhaps its just us! Hmm

I have a serious target to make as I am meeting up with some people I haven't seen for nearly 30 yrs for a gig in early Dec. Last time I saw them I was 17 (we were all punks) Would ideally like to lose another stone by then so hitting the shred big time today!

Keziahhopes · 01/11/2010 12:49

Wynken - your shopping sounds great idea!

Am 3lb of Club Ten Target, don't think I will meet it this week somehow!

Whatkungfuthat - it is great to have a target like that!

findingtheRialme · 01/11/2010 13:58

hi allSmile

having a good day so farSmile had a banana before the school run, then my yummy half grapefruit and a poached egg when I got back, after tagging a 20 min walk onto the route home. Spicy roast pumkin soup for lunch. Cottage pie ready to go in oven, and veg all done. Just have to wash up now! Sad

Lulumaam · 01/11/2010 16:44

WI tonight. not sure if i will have lost at all. i've eaten out a bit. but tried to limit syns on other nights. but i just feel heavy/flabby/bloated.

well, we can see what the scales say !

upsydaisysexstylist · 01/11/2010 20:18

Think mischief night is a Yorkshire thing, and is 4th November, not as popular as was. I just remember a scary assembly where our headmaster told us we would cause old people to die by tying thier dustbin lids to their doors. Think it is something to do with sympathy for Guy Fawkes as most of the plotters were from yorkshire. My mum rembers egging windows and tying neighbours doorhandles together 9don't think she was an especially well behaved child though)

Sucess express days done now, may use over xmas, but think you end up with a very low cal day, which is a bitt crap for breastfeeding, as only a third free to 2/3s superfree limits protien intake and all snacks are superfree

Lulumaam · 02/11/2010 07:11

I was right , 1.5 lbs on ! I could feel it. think it is because i had a lot of SW chips and crisps and i gained last time i did that. so off the spuds this week

Melty · 02/11/2010 07:42

Hi Lulu, I think you could be right. Did you have enough free veg with your crisps/chips?

We forget sometimes, even if stuff is free, it has calories, so we have to be a bit sensible. So have the chips, but only if you can balance out the plate with enough veg too. And a 1/3 of the total portion of veggies is actually quite a lot of veg.
The crisps, well honestly, whatever way you look at it, its a treat. A nice one Grin but if you have a lot, then it has to add on....

Last night I had another work meal. Disaster.
Bread with the soup. (Wholemeal, but it was lovely and I had it with butter) Steak, again, lovely, but I had it with big fat steak chips and green beans followed by sticky toffee pudding. I have another one tonight, so no dessert I think, and no chips!
I am going to go red for the rest of the week I think and ease off on the carbs after yesterdays overload.

ditavonteesed · 02/11/2010 07:47

I remember tying peoples door handles together so they couldn't get out, you know the terraces where they open in the passage. Sure I remember my brother doing something with matches Shock deffo a yorkshiure thing as dh never did it and he's from the south.

lulu I think potato can make you bloated, it will prob come off plus more next week.

I am going back tonight, bumped into the group leader in the park walking our dogs and asked her about paying for the missed weeks, she said it was fine so back I go. hoping for a maintain from last time, 3 weeks ago. I ate really well yesterday and according to the wii scales have lost the 2 lb I put on over the last week, it shouted at me as I only set the goal of 2lbs yesterday.

going to try and get back on the shred later, now the kids are back at school and nursery i have a couple of hours to myself, think I was a bit daft thinking that I could manage it in half term.

Don't know what this new thing is, is next week not this week, but hoping it means I will lose 2 stione in a week while eating whatever I want.

On another side my bras aren't fitting me very well but I don't really want to buy any new ones until I have reached a target as I guess the new ones would only fit for a bit. and I can now take my trousers down without undoing them (not samll enough for the next size down though but can't be far off)

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 02/11/2010 08:02

Sorry to hear that Lulu. It will be off plus some more next week though. I think the crisps are a bit dangerous as you can munch your way through a fair few of them much quicker than say a jacket spud. The chips though if you do them fairly chunky and do them with a third superfree as Melty says, I reckon they are fine.

Our consultant is big on this third superfree thing everytime you eat something and would say that if you are doing something like crisps you must them with something superfree.

Also, don't underestimate the effects of half a pizza plus Tandoori chicken, popadom. It's these things that can really rack the syns up without us realising. Kungfu has put it really well about the weird alchemy thing, if you miss any of the syns it does tend to lead to a gain.

Melty, red sounds like a plan. I keep meaning to try it one day but can't quite cope with getting my head round it, I was always a green girl. I have been Reading that people still do sucess express after a dodgy day or two which I've mentally filed away to use in the future.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 02/11/2010 08:18

I love it when trousers come down without undoing them! If you lose that 2 stone Dita, I will pay you lots of money for the new formula!

Totally off topic but can I just tell you all about my major sucess at parent's evening yesterday? DD has been subject to some horrible name calling and some quite subtle destroying of her friendships. I wrote a letter concentrating on the physical stuff that had gone on and spoke to the teacher who was going on the lines of she'd spoken to the girls, emphasised leaving things that had happened before behind them etc . Things got worse for a few days after then slightly improved.

Wasn't expecting much yesterday but she raised the subject, asked how things were. We said they had got worse but we were helping DD to concentrate on other friends. Turns out DD isn't the only one having a bad time with this girl who in the teacher's words is 'the centre of a number of friendship issues' and as a result she involved the head of year the week before half term and if she doesn't stop they will be calling in her parents. She told DD to keep away from her which was music to my ears. DD mentioned the voodoo doll this girl has made, which went straight down into her notes. Plus another girl who had been elbowing DD apologised to her, thanked her for the birthday card we sent her and gave her cake. I now have one happy DD and am enjoying it whilst it lasts . Sorry that's so long, it was a very good moment where I was expecting a problem. Went home and celebrated with SW trifle !

Melty · 02/11/2010 11:59

I think the thing with WW is you can have what you want as long as its included in the points. SO you might have a Mcdonalds and not have many points left for the rest of the day. (ie in theory you then stop eating!)
With SW, you can eat what you want of free but if you over SYN on top of that with McDonalds or whatever, then obviously you are over eating so can't help but gain.
Or at least that is how my head works it out!

Wynken, thats such a relief for your DD and you.
Dita, You really need to get a couple of Bras that fit. Its the one thing that will really make you look slim as your boobs get lifted right up. It makes a huge difference to your clothes too and the way they sit.
I am a bit of a bra obsessive! The right one can take pounds off!

I forget how to do success express.
Is it in the book?
I'll have to dig it out when I get home.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 02/11/2010 12:46

1/3 of plate free from red/green, 2/3 superfree. 1 or 2 HEA, 2 HEB, 5-15 syns at the higher of the syn values I think for SE.

Lulumaam · 02/11/2010 13:04

looking back on my food diary, i have neglected the superfree a bit , so am going to make a concerted effort this week to really up the superfree. also swapping diet coke for sparkling water as no chemicals

think the potatoes in the quantity i had with no superfree was bad move, i gained last time doin gthis, so it's obviously not something i can do again!

had all bran with bluberreis adn skim milk for brekky and pineaplle and more blueberries mid morning

going to have eggs & turkey rashers with salad now for lunch

whatkungfuthat · 02/11/2010 13:32

Wynken, great news about DD Smile

Lulu I am a bit wary of potatoes and bananas to be honest. I know I definitely didn't pay as much attention to the third of superfree foods as I should so I now make sure that I eat something superfree before or with anything - I have a sliced apple with my HE toast for instance.

Melty, what you describe is exactly what we used to do - have a McD for lunch and eat a WW meal with loads of salad later as we had no points left! Not good. It still worries me though how if you go over just a tiny bit the pounds crash back on, weird alchemy indeed! The girl that put on 7lbs hadn't actually been that bad apart from the McD's and a bit of chocolate. Doesn't bode well for maintenance later further down the line, or holidays. I don't even want to think about xmas Shock but we will probably have one day where we have proper roast potatoes and a pudding then get back on it.

I am doing the shred but don't do the jumping jacks/butt kicks as I have boob issues. I just concentrate on the arms/legs and floor work and supplement with Wii fit free step for fat burning. Not as good but not as painful!

TheRedSalamander · 02/11/2010 13:34

Hello

I?ve recently re-started sw, having done it a fair few times before and got on quite well with it in the past (my willpower was always lacking sadly after a couple of stone- and I?ve got 4 to lose now aaargh!)

I?m looking for some inspiration for easy evening meals- my working patterns have changed and I am no longer able to spend much time preparing dinner for dh and I- we tend to eat after the children are in bed and tbh ½ hour of cooking is pretty extravagant these days because I?m knackered and just want to veg on the sofa in front of House

Can you share your tasty quick extra-easy sorts of meals? I?m only in week 2 and I?m already fed up with baked chicken breast jacket pot and mountains of veg, although it is nicer than the rubbish we were eating before :)
