So today is D day! Diet starts today, I have my first slimming world class tonight and i am feeling quite motivated. I think I probably have around 3 stones to lose, but i would be happy to even lose 2. I just feel fat and unhealthy and have never been this big before!

So today is day 1 of sorting myself out! Just wondered if anyone else was starting today too, not just slimming world, but any thing, and wanted to have somewhere to chat, swap ideas, or get some moral support?

Morning ladies, it's really cheering me on to read your posts - very helpful.

I shall remember to put on a cat's bum face at next weigh in if it doesn't go well.

I think sometimes it's a question of going back to basics and simply sitting down and e-reading the SW book, getting my head around all the free food stuff instead of focusing on syns.

A bit of a gripe I have with SW classes is that they focus almost exclusively on food. I would like to see a bit more proper "image therapy" as they call it - the psychological aspects of following the plan.

I just got a great book out of the library called "101 things to do before you diet" which I find helpful and funny, just loads of tips on how to dress, boost your self esteem, deal with people who might try to sabotage your efforts.

Just a quick question - as a newbie - what is this word "shred" that keeps cropping up on the thread?

Wishing you all a "good" day! xx

candyfluff · 04/11/2010 09:21

Sorry I meant RE-reading the SW book and I am going to do that ths very afternoon AND see if I can find a not-too-expensive dress to reward myself with in time for festive parties!

whatkungfuthat · 04/11/2010 09:52

Hi candyfluff, so sorry to hear about your mum.

Izq, shred is a fitness dvd that Dita started doing and inspired me to try. Its done by an evil harridan american celeb fitness guru and its a killer! Bargain at 5.99 on amazon, I got it so I could cut down the hours I do on Wii fit. Too early to tell if its working Hmm

findingtheRialme · 04/11/2010 13:24

sorry to hear about your mum candySad

took me ages to work out what "tinned pink stuff" might beBlush

just logging on to the thread 'cos I'm bored. have been naughty with food again. grrrr, where is my willpower! I have been so good with the exercise this week too, and feel much better for all the dancing and zumba-ing (doesn't seem to matter if you aren't co-ordinated BTW) and walking. I need to embrace the whole healthy lifestyle package all at once, not just on or the other.

I agree about the way the mind works melty.

fairydust · 04/11/2010 13:34

can i join you all please joined sw on tuesday night and so far so good have also been hitting the just dance on the wii and have an aqua aerobics clss booked for tues as well.

ditavonteesed · 04/11/2010 13:35

candy sorry to hear about your mum Sad
fairy welcome.
I think I must have worked my points out wrong for today because I don't seem to have stopped eating yet but even when I include the sausage and mas we are having for tea I am well under.

whatkungfuthat · 04/11/2010 13:46

Dita, call me slow on the uptake but are you doing WW points? If so, did you find you gained or lost much switching from SW to WW? I am asking as I think WW may be more suitable for DP as he has stuck but eats the same as me (without dipping into the kids pringles like I do Blush

Lulumaam · 04/11/2010 14:04

really sorry to hear that candy.. Sad

welcome to the new girls!

i've really upped my fruit/veg intake and have reduced syns.

today was fat free natural yoghurt with berries and a bit of sweetener, one slce nimble and laughing cow light for brekky

fruti and water midmorning

now veg & tomato broth and curried chilcen rice left over from last night.. the veg in the soup will be my superfree!

and tonight witll be prawn & tomato pasta and salad or fruit

ditavonteesed · 04/11/2010 14:10

kung fu, I have been doing ww all along, the class was at a better time for me. I will tell you next week as apparently it is all change then so don't know what the new syastem is going to be like.

Melty · 04/11/2010 14:49

There was a whole article on the new WW system in the daily mail.
daily mail artiacle on Propoints

whatkungfuthat · 04/11/2010 16:09

Read the article and it looks quite interesting. I am tempted to sign up next week to get the books Hmm

Lizzylou · 04/11/2010 16:11

So sorry Candy.

I put on 2lbs last night Blush, was gutted, have never gained before, maintained, yes. But have kicked myself up the bum (no mean feat) and am all determined to get that off and more next week.

Have shredded today as well, hoping if I up the exercise and superfrees I will be back on track.

Lulumaam · 04/11/2010 16:17

seems quite similar to SW, lots of free /low syn food and then extra syns for treats.

cannot be bothered cooking tonight, so am having a salad of prawns & raw broccoli with a tablespoon of light salad cream to dip into.

am really full still from my soup & curry at lunchtime, but the salad should keep me going

am going out twice now this weekend, got a communal dinner at the synagogue tomorrow, which will not be SW friendly, so will have to really be careful.. and then a party saturday with drinks and nibbles.. so again, lots of danger and temptation!

mind you, am wearing little black dress saturday so by the time i've got into my Spanx, i won't want to eat !!

Lulumaam · 04/11/2010 16:18

lizzy, i gained on monday WI. looking back, it was stuff i thougbht that wsa free, taht wasn't ! i/e SW crisps. also forgot we'd been out for lunch too. didn't syn up my sushi etc...

there's no shame in a gain , says our consultant!

Lizzylou · 04/11/2010 16:22

Lulu, I was lax at writing up all my food and am sure I had too much low fat cheddar on at least 2 days, plus the disastrous chocs of Halloween.

Ah well, will be inspired by you ladies to grit my teeth and get serious.

It just hasn't "clicked" with me as of yet.

Lulumaam · 04/11/2010 16:47

i have been writing everything down since i joined SW 7 weeks ago. it is the only way. it's too easy to forget, and you have to measure , what i had guessed at being a tablespoon was much less, but what i guessed as a portion of cereal was far too much

honestly, writing it all down and weighin what you need to way is so important.

at the end of the day, it makes you focus on what you are eating and if you have to write it down ,and then tot up your syns, you are more aware

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 04/11/2010 17:39

Candy, so sorry about your Mum Sad

Congratulations to losers. Commiserations Lizzy. I gained 1.5lbs one week and was very upset. Not sure why I did gain but managed to move on.

I lost 2lbs today so pleased with that. Had a disussion about whether I could lose 3lbs not week, she suggested I cut my syns back so will try to average around 5 syns just for a week as if I can lose 3, I'll get my 2 stone and 10%. But if I find 5 syns stressful I'll have more as would rather feel that I'm doing something I'm enjoying than make it a chore.

We were talking about the importance of eating foods we actually enjoy rather than the ones we feel we need to eat to lose weight. One woman said she went out straight after class last week and ate 6 cupcakes (the consultant's DD!). Consultant said that if she doesn't start to eat foods she actually enjoys, she is at risk of doing as she has before when at target ie pile weight back on as won't maintain as hasn't changed eating habits and sees it as a diet to be tolerated rather than enjoining it. Hope that makes sense,it struck a chord with me. I was thinking the other day how I don't feel the need for a weigh in treat as I did when doing it before.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 04/11/2010 17:52

Meant to say anyone who has an iPhone and wants a WW propoints calculator, take a look at Minimins in the WW section, there is a thread on it (iwatchr)

Lulumaam · 04/11/2010 20:29

I always have a post weigh in treat Blush

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 05/11/2010 07:38

Nothing wrong with post weigh in treat, it's the whole cycle of going mad after weigh in then spending the next week trying to rectify it she was getting at I think. She was trying to get people to stop living off jacket spud, pasta and sauce etc and take advantage of the flexibility of EE, eat food you would have eaten before with slight adaptations so you feel 'normal'. This is where I think the new WW plan will go down a storm, the extra points especially for treats plus the increase in feeling full up from the free fruit is going to do wonders for people not feeling deprived. Will be interesting to see what people think when it properly starts.

whatkungfuthat · 05/11/2010 07:51

Wynken, I've decided to go along the WW next week and register to see what its all about and hopefully get some books. I think it will suit DP much better and I like the idea of the extra points when you need them. I tend to use all my syns at the weekend anyway. I wonder if there is a stipulation about fruit/veg like the third superfree one on SW Hmm

ditavonteesed · 05/11/2010 07:55

is it odd that I am really excited.
weighed myself this morning, haven't lost anything this week, feeling reaslly spotty and bloated and uncomfortable, so checked diary and bingo am due in next couple of days. new plan is supposed to be mre suitable for normal life, think it is kind of half way between old ww and sw. loving the idea of the extra weekly points so no need to save up for a night out.

Lulumaam · 05/11/2010 08:07

ah right, I see. I deffo don't need to spend the rest of the week undoing what i have eaten post WI.

I do adapt regular meals ( thank you frylight!) and make substitutions to make meals low syn or syn freee

today i've had fruit and yoghurt for breakfast, saving my HEX b bread for a turkey rasher and egg sandwich for lunch ,,drooooool!

big dinner out tongiht, but have had only 15 syns at most this week - not sure how many syns in 8 mccain home fries! its 2.5 syns per 100g on EE i think !! so can have a few syns tonight and tomorrow at the party without freaking out.

i hope i've got a loss on Monday, at least 2.5 lbs so i am through the 20 lbs barrier, i feel that will be a real boost for me psychologically.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 05/11/2010 09:13

That's exactly what Consultant's DD isn't doing, she's just relying on the old style SW meals and it has come a long way over the years. Hence her feeling really deprived and the minute meeting over stuffing 6 cupcakes and carrying on from there for the rest of the day. I think all of us on here eat sensibly in a sustainable way.

Have to say I am beginning to be tempted to go along and have a look at the WW stuff next week. Am having coffee with SW friend in a bit and will see what she reckons.

Am also saving my HEB today so tucking into cooked breakfast so I can have my Alpen light tonight. Last night I had defrosted frozen raspberries with Vanilla Muller light. The raspberries are free aren't they, I was just a bit worried by the amount of juice that comes out when they defrost. I only had 5 official syns yesterday so if they should have been syned, not the end of the world but am hoping they don't need to be.
