Am sure it will Mama. I'm also on a reduced carb intake approach (mostly as I ate so much bloody baguette on holiday I'm surprised I didnt turn into one) - as long as you can restrict them to one meal only a day then you should still see results. I tend not to eat carbs after 6pm (not sure if that actually does anything but it does prevent me going to bed with that really full bloated feeling I sometimes get if I eat too much before bedtime).

dinkystinky · 25/08/2010 09:23

Well done Racmac - that's great going. But weigh in day is Friday, you queue jumper you Grin

Guitargirl · 25/08/2010 18:36

Congrats to Racmac! And hope those of you with bugs are alright...

Am doing ok this week I think. Although I have just had 2 slices of bread and butter (rye) which I should probably have done without.

Today, have eaten:

Breakfast - Branflakes with skimmed milk

Lunch - 5 pieces of falafel

Way home from work - apple and a nectarine

Dinner - Pasta sauce (without the pasta) - tomato base with beef, aubergines, onions, red and green pepper.

And now 2 slices of bread.

Will be well miffed if I haven't lost on Friday.

Joby1970 · 26/08/2010 08:19

last night not too good - a share in 3 1/2 bottles of wine & there was only 2 of us ...(sorry emoticon)

dinkystinky · 26/08/2010 08:52

Joby - go do your shred dvd right now in penance! The pain will put you off sinning again at any time soon.Grin

GG - fingers crossed for your WI. Were you craving the bread and butter? If so, it may be that a small portion of carbs (talking a handful of pasta) with your dinner might sort that out.

Period has started today and am having horribly stressful time trying to find a flat to move into within the next 3 weeks (nothing on the market at the moment except for dives - ho hum) but I will stay strong and not biff....

CheeeseOnToast · 26/08/2010 10:36

racmac - I've just downloaded MyFitnessPal - how do you add friends? can't work it out.

Been ok this week I think, even though I've eaten dinner out twice this week so far Blush. Pizza express one night, where I had the nicoise salad (with the dressing on the side, only used about half of it), and then I had dim sum last night which wasn't very healthy... I had two steamed seafood dumplings, prawn toast and then a chicken curry rice pot thing. Delicious but probably v calorific. I only had a small salad for lunch though so hopefully it'll even out.

Porridge for breakfast this morning, made with water. Am visiting family today, have the day off, so I'm going to walk to the station rather than get a bus, so that's two miles. Going to do Shred in a minute too.

Seem to have snapped out of my raging PMT-induced eat everything mindset and feeling a bit lighter with more energy.

Dinks hope you find somewhere. Whereabouts are you roughly?

Guitargirl, sounds like you're doing well!

racmac · 26/08/2010 11:42

cheesontoast - whats your name on there? If you go to community there is a tab to find friends.

Im on there as racmac

mamamiafigaro · 26/08/2010 11:48

Ok been really good today, done my first Shred and so far so good, i really like the fact its only 20 mins and you can feel every muscle working.

Done a prelimerary weigh-in and im gutted to have put on 1lb (gutted at myself for being a fucking pig).

Today i have had an apple, plum and some grapes for breakfast.

Now im having a banana and strawberry smoothie with a pinch of oats (made with 1% fat milk)

plan to have carrot and corriander soup for lunch

and Baked chicken wrapped in smokey bacon(fat removed before cooking) and veg. Will have a small dollop of mash if i resist having a bread roll with my soup at lunch.

Dinky- hope you get the flat sorted.

Cheese - dont know how you can eat porridge with water, do you sweeten it with honey or anything? I need a tsp of honey or else i could not eat it.

CheeeseOnToast · 26/08/2010 12:39

mamamiaf - i use about a quarter of a teaspoon of brown muscavado (sp?) sugar. I don't have sugar in tea or coffee or on anything else so I can justify a bit on porridge. I do have honey though too, I do use honey sometimes. Your food so far today sounds good! Baked chicken sounds nice too.

Racmac I'm there as shellydotcom, I can't find a community tab. All I can see is 'home' (my daily summary thing), 'my diary' (where stuff is logged), 'progress' (charts) and 'More' which has 'edit profile', 'edit foods and exercises', 'frequently asked questions', 'about us', and 'logout'. Confused

Just had small bowl of Special K for lunch, now I'm off out.

mamamiafigaro · 26/08/2010 12:56

OK i had 2 small finger rolls with slivers of cheese instead of soup as the Carrot and Corriander from morrsons eat smart range is feckin rank! had a taste and tipped it doen the sink - bleugh -

So no mash for me tonight.

Cheese i also dont take sugar in coffee or tea (although if im sick or hungover i need sweet tea).

tibni · 26/08/2010 13:04

Hi All,

I have some good news and a confession!

Good news is that last night at the gym 3 seperate guys all complimented me on how fit I am and what good shape my body is in.

Confession - I was so annoyed with myself for gaining weight on holiday I have been over strict in restricting my food and over exercising. My weight is down (10 stone) but I know that this is not the way to do it. I feel good at this weight but I need to maintain it in a controlled way - so I am happy to take a slap. Have told dh and a couple of close mates who will keep tabs on me to make sure things don't go too far.

Had a pre interview visit this morning and am on call later so no gym for me today.

Pisces isn't over her bug fully yet but I will nag her back on when she is better.

dinkystinky · 26/08/2010 13:58

Mama - make your own soup, tis easy. Soften an onion, chuck in a load of stock and some diced carrots - simmer, chuck in some seasoning and coriander and blend and voila - you can freeze it and is delicious and soooo healthy. I'm a v reluctant cook but love making soups.Takes around 20minutes to do. I hate tinned soups. Pret soups are ok but you need to avoid the ones with cream in.

Cheese - I do porridge with honey but need to mix in a low fat yoghurt- fills me up a treat.

Breakfast today was grande skinny latte and yoghurt, body combat at lunchtime, now having a pret morrocan chicken soup and fruit salad for lunch. Not sure about dinner tonigh.

dinkystinky · 26/08/2010 14:03

Tibni - am slapping your wrists. Overrestricting and over-exercising is NOT healthy - stop right now. Putting weight on while on holiday is normal and natural - you just need to be sensible when you get back and you'll lose it. Can you change one of your gym sessions to a yoga or pilates session (still exercising but different focus) so you can focus on the holistic side of being healthy?

tibni · 26/08/2010 14:37

dinky - thank you; its what I need.

My head was in a bad place before holiday to be honest - I was panicing about not being able to exercise while I was away (although I did manage 3 runs). Its more about control and weight is a side issue when my head is like this. But I had been in a good balanced place and I am going back there. To be honest when eating properly my exercise isn't excessive.

School holidays are tough in my house. Change of routine and severe ASD really do not go together and it is very full on trying to juggle the needs of ds, dd and stop the house becoming a total tip.

dinkystinky · 26/08/2010 14:43

Ok Tibni, and I appreciate the past few weeks/months/years have been difficult for you- but please do try to do something like yoga or pilates or even a meditation course like Thai Chi. IME (I have a sister with bad depression and plenty of friends with bad eating disorders) when you're in a bad place, its good to do something holistic as it takes your mind off weight loss and focuses on your body and how its working and feeling, which is a good thing. Glad you're feeling like you're getting back on top of things again though and well done for being aware that there was/is an issue to address.

mamamiafigaro · 26/08/2010 14:50

Tibni- you no that its not good for you, and im glad you realised before it got too far.

Dinky- i always make my own soup, mainly in winter but i fancyed a tin of WW carrot and lentil but there was none left and its the only WW one i like, so i thought this would be nice.......wrong!

Got a bag of carrots in the fridge so may make carrot and lentil tomorrow in the SC.

tibni · 26/08/2010 16:47

Im ok - honestly.

Im far from depressed but I do recognise my danger signs as far as eating are concerned. It was only Monday that I started going too far food wise (after a binge on Sunday) and I have spoken to dh who is brilliant and very supportive. Its very difficult to put into words but I have had "episodes" since I was 15 but I have never been seriously ill - I don't want to be thin and its not about food as such its about control.

Right now Im having to appeal the lack of respite ds gets (5 hrs in the school holidays is a joke for a child that needs fulltime 1-1 care, recognised by all professionals, and who sleeps a max of 6 hours a night and that sleep is often broken). Social services are pressurising me to get the appeal in but holidays are the very time I have no time to do anything! Im on call tonight and hope I don't get called out then social services (who I am working for tonight) can pay me to do more work on my appeal.

I am not as unstable as no doubt I sound - just too much on and not enough time which im sure you all understand with some rubbish coping strategies!

mamamiafigaro · 27/08/2010 07:57

Gained a lb soooo 14st 5lb (mortified)

Ok quick Q, do you eat before exercising? As just done the second day of the Shred today and feel a bit sick and wobbly (proberbly body going into shock) and i felt like this yesterday too. Was not sure if i should eat breakfast wait then do it, or exercise then eat?

I WILL LOSE BY NEXT WEEK IF IT FUCKING KILLS ME, I WILL BE THIN, I WILL, BE THIN, I WILL BE THIN!!!!!

Im gonna print off that mantra and put it on the fridge.

Hope you all have a better weigh in day than me.

cybillibertine · 27/08/2010 08:16

dinky can I just say what a great job you are doing on thsi thread. All us no hopers drooping in and confessing our sins and you are THERE working OUT eating white bean mash.

Also tibni, your situation sounds a bit worrying. Are you sure a diet thread is a good place for you if you have had 'episodes' of food controlling? (meant kindly)

CheeeseOnToast · 27/08/2010 08:19

Whoops completely forgot to weight in. I've already had breakfast so I'll weigh in tomorrow morning instead.

Mamamia don't fret about the lb, keep on with the Shred and watch portions and you WILL be down next week.

Racmac I'm your friend now! I was just looking at the iphone app, didn't realise there was a website attached to it

ok ish day yesterday. Porridge for brek, special k for lunch, afternoon snack of half a bowl of butterbean and pesto soup, then dinner was (in a Thai restaurant) grilled trout in a soy marinade with veggies, which was delicious. And only two spoonfulls of egg fried rice. Only one beer then sparkling water.

Planning on going to a LBT class today at lunchtime so I'll probably grab a salad on the way back for lunch, or just have my Slimfast that's in the fridge at work. Special K for breakfast today.

Hope everyone's weigh-in goes well Smile

dinkystinky · 27/08/2010 08:48

Why thank you Cyb. And my virtousness (and doubtless all the stress of fucking flat hunting, gah) has paid off as am pleased to report am back to preholiday weight (less a tiny bit) despite only exercising 4 times this week - 10 4.8 now. Hurrah.

Mama - dont fret about 1 lb on, all kinds of things can effect your weight (water retention esp) by up to 2lbs. Keep the faith. If exercising in the morning I tend to not eat anything pre exercise (as I feel sick if I do) but know thats not for everyone. Could you have a banana or glass of juice about 20 minutes before if exercising on an empty tummy makes you feel ill?

Cheese - that trout sounds fabulous! And remember its not thin that we want to be - its slim and slinky...

Guitargirl · 27/08/2010 16:20

I weighed this morning, think have lost 3 lbs but am at my parents' for the weekend and their scales are different from ours. They have two sets and showing 12 stone 9 on one and 12 stone 3 on the other(!). I know the higher one is the accurate one though (digital).

Have been doing ok.

Yesterday I ate:

Breakfast - apple and 3 slices of pastrami

Lunch - mediterranean tuna sandwich on rye bread

Afternoon snack on 3 hour train journey - handful of blueberries, handful of grapes and 6 cherry tomatoes.

Dinner was more of a problem. I thought Mum was low carbing too so thought it would be ok but she has had a cold so she made chicken and mushroom pie, boiled potatoes Hmm, broccoli and cabbage. So I ended up eating the veg and the insides of the pie Hmm.

Today so far have had:

Breakfast - sultana bran with skimmed milk

Lunch - 3 pieces of ryvita with butter and a can of sardines

Afternoon - mint tea

Dinner - am planning on having 2 veggie sausages with peas.

Am finding it very helpful writing down everything am eating as I am too embarrassed to have to write here if I've eaten a load of crap!

It's going to be difficult staying off the wine this weekend though. Mum and Dad's always have well-stocked wine rack!

mamamiafigaro · 27/08/2010 18:25

Done ok today

breakfast - 2 slices of toast with boiled egg
Lunch - 4 thin oatcakes 2 with cottage cheese 2 plain
Dinner - bolognaise (mince and sauce) with veg

snacks - HM flap jack 3 small squares

I also find it helps to write it all down, so i can keep track and i will be less likely to biff if i know im reporting back.

Guitargirl · 28/08/2010 08:22

Had two large glasses of wine last night. But am determined it's not going to have an effect on today. It's not so much the alcohol that's the problem but the food cravings afterwards. Anyway, didn't drink enough to get a hangover so I shouldn't be heading to Burger King! Am off for my sultana bran now...hope everyone enjoys the bank holiday weekend!

BudaisintheZONE · 28/08/2010 08:26

Hi all. Blush

Sort of weighed yesterday. Scary! Have def gained.

Have had very eating and drinking few days. Having a party tonight and have ordered Indian food and then am doing cheese and fruit platters instead of dessert.

Have done NO exercise. And have had allergic conjunctivitis and ended up at doc yesterday.

Tomorrow will be last day of crapness.

Monday is D-Day. BACK in the zone if it kills me. I know first few days will be hard but by Thursday it should be ok.

School is back on Tuesday so normal life can resume. Weather is forecast to be crap - was 30 degrees yesterday, is 21 and raining today and is supposed to be 15 on Tuesday! Not great but soup weather! Am getting a bit fed up with salads but can't do soup when hot. So will make big pot of veg and lentil soup on Monday for the week.
