Justaminute well done for getting this far and you're right, you do need to stop and think before eating so much sugar. I do this too and one way I've learnt to control it by thinking how I'll feel afterwards. If you're anything like me, then that groggy sick feeling is so not worth it.
I'm still learning to try and control it. Last week I ate a whole box of Thorntons in 2 evenings Blush.
I felt crap and thought 'I never want to feel like that anymore!'

Can I just say that after a few days of giving up sugar, this morning I managed to get out of bed at 7 (not quite bounding yet Smile) and put a laundry load on, did Shred dvd, had a shower all before getting the kids up and doing the school run!
I even managed to moisturise and put on make up too!
It's so amazing. I genuinely feel like I'm recovering from a mild illness.

I'm going to sort my house out today as I've let things really slip through being groggy and lethargic all the time.

Sorry for long ramble!

encyclogirl · 24/11/2010 10:20

Dinky that is an excellent ratio. I can do that of course I can,

For all the newbies, let me tell you that on Sept 17th I weighed in at 10 6. The next day, I was 10 8. I dunno what that was about, maybe some residual weekend biffage coming to get me? Anyway I zoned pretty much 100% since then and dropped to 9 4.

I am 45 years old, and 5' 2" I reckon any further weight loss will impact me and give me a bit of a haggard look you know? Sometimes one has to choose between one's face and one's arse...

My point is, it can be done. If I can do it girls you all can.

I'm going nowhere, I'll be here to cheer you all on and hopefully get your help and input with maintenance.

Slobbadan · 24/11/2010 10:22

Just tried to do my shred and got shhoting pain across my bloody foot, so anly managed half, going to try again tomorrow and hope it was a one off!

Just about to have a boiled egg on wholemeal toast for breakfast as im starving.

iluvcake · 24/11/2010 10:45

Morning all!

Shax, that's brilliant! The feeling of not being so tired in the morning is definitely worth giving up sugar for! Well done on the shredding too. Your food yesterday sounded fine to me. 8 chips and 2 marshmallows will not make any difference, I wouldn't have thought!

Justaminute, agreed! I have started off well this morning with porridge and banana but came back from the scool run and finished off a slice of toast with butter and jam that DS had left from breakfast. I also then had a blue riband with coffee. Falling back into my old habits of coffee and a biscuit straight after the school run. IT STOPS HERE!! I shredded last night and am DETERMINED that the rest of the week will not be a write-off. Let's get through this week together-I'm going to post every morsel that passes my lips this week.

Welcome TCOB, congratulations on your new babySmile. Can totally understand what you're saying about the "celebrating"-I'm big(or have been) on that tooGrin. Why don't you set a goal of a night out/away/some new clothes/beauty treatment as your new "reward/celebration" to yourself when you lose say, 4lb/7lb? Think of how much more you'll be celebrating when you lose that weight! Do you eat plenty of protein? IMHO, it's the way to go. Keeps you going/full longer. 3 meals and 2 snacks per day (dinky's snack suggestions excellent).

Thedogwalker, your food yesterday sounded brilliant. Hope you're feeling less tired today?

Shaxx · 24/11/2010 11:53

Encyclo I'm 5'2" too and currently weigh 11st. What kind of food did you eat whilst losing weight? and how much exercise?
I'm happy to be about 9st4lb. I actually look very slim with some curves at that weight (well I used to Hmm) so thats my goal.

Iluvcake can you substitute your biscuit with something else? I know its not as exciting but an oatcake.
I know this sounds strange but a banana works for me as I get the the sugar. Banana and coffee. Hmmm sounds yuk but does the job!

Slobbadan sorry to hear about your foot. Is it technique? shoes? Hope your're ok tomorrow!

I had beans on wholemeal toast for breakfast.
banana (and coffee) for snack and its kept me going all morning!
I'm going to hold out til 1 for lunch then have leftover chicken and veg.

justaminute · 24/11/2010 12:25

Gosh, it's busy on here today but all these messages are just what I need to stay focussed.

I leave work at 1pm to collect ds from nursery then get in at about 1.45 - that is my danger time, it is so easy to open the biscuit tin rather than make something to eat. Yesterday I had to stop for petrol - cue the KitKat binge.
So far today:
Juice, branflakes
2 satsumas
I have an apple to eat onroute to home. So far so good....

TCOB · 24/11/2010 13:18

Righto first day back on track and going well - nearly had more than three cubes of cake at baby group this morning but heard multitudes of MN voices saying 'NO!' and stopped.

Thedogwalker - congrats on your LO! Really good to have some post-natal empathy.

Off to buy GOOD snacks now (thanks dinky - and so embarrassed to call you stinky in last post Blush, sorry!) - I predict my local shop will have a run on oatcakes from now until Christmas. Ooh, and bananas. Then there is no getting away from the fact I have to discover the true extent of the damage and weigh myself.

I will post the dreadful truth later...but have a good afternoon everyone.

justaminute · 24/11/2010 14:53

I've managed to have a proper lunch - boiled egg & soldiers + 2 oatcakes with a smidgen of peanut butter. The urge to eat biscuits is niggling in my head so I've come on here to sweat it out!

Off to get DD in a bit then into town, think I'll treat myself to a skinny latte - I know how to live!

TCOB - Oatcakes made it into my trolley this week - I think they are quite yummy, can't believe I've never eaten one before - I've lived a sheltered life!

Please excuse my random ramblings but reading and posting today is keeping my head focussed.

Hopefully I'll still be being good by the next installment.

Shaxx · 24/11/2010 19:20

Hope you managed to stay good!

So since lunch I had an instant nescafe skinny latte thing and had 1/2, yes 1/2 a fig roll. I wouldve normally scoffed the packet but I just ate a bit and then genuinly didn't want any more.

I just had dinner which was salmon and salad. I've got a pot of ambrosia light rice pudding which I might have infront of Ugly Betty later.

thedogwalker · 24/11/2010 20:45

Hi all and welcome TCOB, congratulation s on your LO. My LO is 3 months old and he keeps me going all day, he's not one for sleeping through the day, so he keeps me active.

I ate so many pastries and stuff whilst I was pregnant and now gotta lose it all. I've lost 12lbs already just cutting out the crap food, but then got stuck in a rut and now I can't just go out and run. I fancy the shred but will wait abit as my boobs are still massive from bf.

I've been good again all day, but still knackered, shouldn't really, as LO slept from 8pm last night until 6.15 am this morning and that is quite typical of him. He's a good boy Smile.

had museli for brekkie, chicken and veg for lunch, homemade chilli and baked potato for dinner, with a banana and a satsuma as snacks.

Hope everyone has had a good day and stay off the cakes Grin

iluvcake · 24/11/2010 21:22

Wow! Everyone is being so goodSmile.

After my blip this morning, I've had:- Homemade Butternut Squash & Coconut soup with two oatcakes and a smear of peanut butter/few olives/low fat yoghurt. Snack of mandarin/four almonds&3 dried apricots. Dinner of shepherds pie with hardly any of the mash/cup of fruit tea.

Oh, and did a shred workout but was STARVING before so had one oatcake to keep me going!

Justamin, am amazed you've missed out so long on the culinary delight that is the oatcake!Grin

justaminute · 24/11/2010 22:25

well done everyone for being so good today You have all kept me motivated to stay in the zone today.

Went into town with dcs this pm (had my skinny latte) and got caught in a monster traffic jam on the way home. A 10 minute journey took 75 minutes Angry. I could so easily have torn into the sausage rolls I'd bought for dh instead I discovered an apple in my bag and munched on that whilst practising my clutch control.

dh is out tonight, usually an opportunity for me to biff in secret, instead I've shredded and had a delish Morrocan chicken soup from M&S and a low fat chocolate mousse. Feeling very full and virtuous. Thanks ladies. Here's to another good day tomorrow.

TCOB · 24/11/2010 22:31

OMFG why did no-one tell me about oatcakes before? Seriously good - had 6 for dinner with houmous and apples and still not hungry. Justamin: there's a whole new world of healthy (ish) snacking out there for us...just hope I don't do my usual and get so excited that I end up eating millions of them.

The good news is: I'm great at guessing my weight. The bad news is: I really am 12.5 stones. BUMS.

The dog walker: your food today sounds yum. And 12lbs - that is awesome. You are my poster girl for post-natal weight-loss Smile.

Sweet dreams y'all...non-pastry or cake-based Grin

dinkystinky · 25/11/2010 08:59

TCOB - oatcakes, as with everything else, are good in moderation - too many and it becomes biffing food again.... Just one or two with some houmous for a snack is the ideal snack as the carbs and protein fill you up. Also try rice cakes (if you're a marmite fan, I can really recommend the Kallo Marmite ones) and ryvita bread as an alternative to oatcakes. I was 12.5 stone after having DS2 (and DS1 funnily enough) - and got down to 11 stone before going back after DS2 to work by pretty much walking EVERYWHERE (averaging around 6 miles a day) - was nowhere so disciplined after having DS1. Pitta bread and homemade reduced fat houmous were my snacking foods of choice. And lots of water and herbal teas. Then I returned to work, discovered the biscuit tin as a good refuge when stress hit and put on half the postbaby weight I'd lost and had to join the thread. Ho hum.

Justaminute - that sounds like the traffic jam from hell. Well done on staying strong. I love Morrocan soups - the pret morrocan chicken one is my absolute favourite soup at the moment.

justaminute · 25/11/2010 09:28

TCOB - shall we form an oatcake appeciation society? Wink. As dinky says they have the potential to be biffing food. I've got some Sainsbury's ones, they come wrapped in packs of 6 (or is it 8?) it is very tempting to eat them all.

Dinky - I was 12.5 after the birth of my dcs too. I got down to 10.5 after the second one just by running around like a blue arsed fly. Once I returned to work the lure of the biscuit tin was too strong hence I'm nearly back to where I started.

Shaxx · 25/11/2010 09:29

Everyone has been so good! well done.

I got up early and shredded again even though my muscles were aching from yesterday!

My food plan for today is
beans on toast
chickpeas and couscous
salmon and salad

snacks are fruit and a pack of snackajacks.

Slobbadan · 25/11/2010 09:57

Morning all, glad everyone is doing so well!

I also would like to join the Oat Cake appreciation society if i may? must remember to add them and some low fat cottage cheese to my shopping list.

I was wondering if the fact that i pushed a heavy toddler in a pushchair through 3inchs of snow for 45mins up and down hills (some steep) and have to do so again this afternoon constitutes as an excuse to skip shredding today? or am i being a lazy mare and need to get shredding? thoughts please.

Yesterdays food intake (since we are sharing)
breakfast 2 slices of wholemeal toast with 1 chopped boiled egg on. satsuma
lunch nothig as no time (plus breakfast was at about half ten)

Dinner beef and tomato casserole thing with mash and another satsumma

treats/snacks 1 shape delight yogurt and 2 gold bars

today i hope to improve

breakfast 5 ritz crackers and a satsuma
lunch leftovers from yesterday
dinner chicken wrapped in smokey bacon with no mash but lots of veg.

Slobbadan · 25/11/2010 09:58

Also shaxx i like your will power i have twice now planned to get up early and do yoga or shred and not managed it yet!

justaminute · 25/11/2010 10:20

We might have to stop all this talk about food. Slobbodan has now got me lusting over a gold bar - not had one of those for years

iluvcake · 25/11/2010 11:40

justamin, well done for resisting the lure of those evil sausage rolls-That takes willpower!

Slobbadan, that sounds like a hell of a workout to me!

Breakfast of porridge/ground flaxseed/almond slivers/banana/hot water and lemon.

Just back from a school coffee morning. Managed to sit there with just a coffee with the smell and sight of bacon sarnies and yummy cakes all around. However, I managed not to live up to my name and resisted.

We should all be heading for losses this week, no?Smile

Shaxx · 25/11/2010 13:21

Slobbdan that sounds strenuous and a good workout but don't forget, Shred tones the parts that other exercises cannot reach Grin

Well done iluvcake. Thats some huuuuge exercise of will!

I just made choc banana muffins (small ones)and had to have one. it was so delicious that I started craving more but quickly grabbed a satsuma and a huge glass of water instead and guess what?? I#m not the slightest bit interested in them anymore!

Keep being good everyone and we're definitely headed for losses!

Slobbadan · 25/11/2010 16:03

Well i survived the snow trek second time around, but as there was a snow blizzard i dropped DS off at MIL and i had to carry pram over the drive as snow was too deep and i actually hear my back ping! and im now in agony, cant sit down properly, walking was horrendous as every step hurt and i even had to decline a lift home as i could not get into the car!!!!! Think a trip to the doc's is in order if its still bad after the weekend.

Well i really hope we all manage to have a good loss tomorrow.

Shaxx i could just eat a chocolate banana muffin right now!

dinkystinky · 25/11/2010 20:47

Ouch slobbadan - get down to the drs tomorrow. You need some heavy duty drugs if you heard your back ping!

iluvcake · 25/11/2010 20:52

Oh no Slobbadan!Sad Hope you're not in too much pain tonight-bloody snowAngry. You'll have to join dinky resting up!

Rest of day for me:-

Snack: Two oatcakes with tsp of peanut butter
Lunch: Large salad with salmon/few slices of avocado/cherry tomatoes/few olives/slice of rye bread/Packet of sunbites/yoghurt
Snack: Satsuma & cup of fruit tea
Dinner: Bowl of butternut squash & coconut soup/fruit tea (after large lunch!)

See everyone tomorrow for weigh in!

Undertone · 25/11/2010 20:59

Slobbadan - you're falling to bits! Defo see a dr so we can CRACK THE SHRED WHIP and get you gargling you heart again asap. Grin

Hello all. Tomorrow's going to be epic. Time o' month is finally over. Combined with a few days of dodgy tum which will hopefully have cancelled out the BBQ binge at the weekend, plus being Mega Zoned Monday-today... I may lose a whopping 1oz or something. We's see.

I have stopped buying dark choc for the evening, as I would prefer to eat a few more nuts on the train aftr work. Tough times.

Kudos to cake-resisters.
