Shaxx · 21/11/2010 11:35

Sorry, I meant following this daily for this week. (bit tired this am!)

Slobbadan · 21/11/2010 12:18

Welcome to the thread Shaxx, and im also trying to shred but need to get back into the groove!

Undertone · 21/11/2010 19:28

Hi Shaxx. I agree - bread is evil.

Well - this whole bloody weekend has been a total write-off. Following self-pitying binge on Friday night I proceeded to get absolutely hammered at my brother's birthday BBQ and eat about half a pig. Hmm

My brother and I travelled down to our parents today to go out for a pub lunch. We were both so discracefully hungover it was hilarious. I proceeded to try and eat my way out of feeling like death.

fresh start tomorrow. I just can't wait until this hangover goes. Damn you, gin!

iluvcake · 21/11/2010 20:22

Undertone, hope you're feeling betterGrin. My weekend has also been a write off-my stomach feels very wobbly and huge. Let's start afresh tomorrow!

Slobbadan, great news on the loss-you're on track for a good loss this week I reckonSmile!

Welcome Shaxx! Agree, bread and sugar are no good. I haven't cut out fat, just trying to eat good fats so I feel full but cutting out the evil sugar. I've found I have a lot more energy, no slumps in the afternoon and (virtually) bound out of bed in the mornings. I used to be banging the snooze button on my alarm for about an hour, then stumbling out of bed bleary eyed only to snarl at anyone who looked my way. Total revelation for me. Apart from the odd blips(see above) I've not done too bad. Before, I was always seeing how much chocolate and crap I could get away with within my points allowance (did Weight Watchers for a while). Now, I'm eating a much healthier diet and feel so much better for it.

I'm doing shred as well-have had the weekend off tho. Back to it tomorrow.

You sound like you have a good plan in place!

Shaxx · 21/11/2010 21:41

iluvcake wow thats all the incentive I need. I can only dream of bounding out of bed.
I always feel sluggish and tired even though I exercise regularly and generally eat healthily (but have all the crap too). I mostly feel like I can't be bothered to do anything and have to force myself to do everything.I was wondering if I'm just getting lazy!
Thats it then. No more sugar for me!

iluvcake · 22/11/2010 09:55

Shaxx, that's exactly how I used to feel.

Before, I would be grazing on sugar all day long and felt SO tired all the time. I haven't been perfect since I started this but a hundred times better than I used to be and the difference is astounding.

thedogwalker · 22/11/2010 15:56

Hello all

Thanks for all the welcomes and the advice about the shred DVD. I will wait a bit longer before doing it.

After I had my DS I weighed 12 st. I have since lost 12 lbs, by going out walking everyday with the baby and the dog and not eating the pastries that I was indulging in whilst preggers Grin but now I am at a loss as I'm stuck at 11 st 2lbs and I've got myself in a rut. Ate lots of chocolate over the weekend and yes some more pastries, so I really do need to get my act in gear.

Just read up on this thread and so I hope to be able to get inspiration from all of you, you are all so chatty and helpful. So here goes, I will try and keep saying the mantra....nothing tastes as good as slim feels.

Hope everyne has had a good day Smile

I feel so crap today.
I really, really hate the way I look. My muffin top is ridiculously huge and I look like I could roll down a hill quite easily.

Today, I had
yoga bunny (low fat yoghurt with apple, almonds and cranberries), skinny cappuccino from pret
banana
tuna, salad
banana
some cooked mince and spinach with yoghurt

Dandy tiredness always makes me feel like I need energy fixes from junk. Its very hard but try to stay strong Smile

iluvcake · 22/11/2010 20:59

Hi everyone! Sounds like we've all got the Monday diet blues!!

After all my promises yesterday, I've not been great. I started well but by 5pm after returning from DS's swimming lesson, I was STARVING. I was intending to do shred tonight but had the shakes again like last week. I tried everything, oatcakes with tiny bit of peanut butter, fruit and then went onto the packet of quavers (x2Blush) and two slices of toast with butter and marmite (rather than jam-so that's a bit better, lol!). I need to look at WHY this is happening. It could be biffage over weekend, then my body going into sugar deprivation shockConfusedor having a shop bought sandwich at lunch time which I think was quite high in hidden sugars.

Ladies, you've all made a good start, it's tough at the beginning making changes.

thedogwalker, get started on the shred!

Dandylioness, you have done well to cut right down on the evil pastries and cakes. Hope you have a better night with your teething babySad.

Shaxx, I know how you feel re muffin top. I too, get really depressed at the sight of mine. I've just got a book out of the library today all about belly fat and how to lose it. Apparantly, it's down to eating more MUFAs -monounsaturated fatty acids. Will let you know more when I've worked my way through it. I picked up the Boots magazine today and there is an interview with Fearne Cotton talking about how her energy levels rocketed when she stopped eating so many sweets and chocolate!

Some things to think about-Are you:-

  1. Drinking plenty of water(1-2 litres)?
  2. Eating healthy snacks such as oatcakes & hummus/dried fruit and nuts/ryvita & low fat cheese or bit of avocado?
  3. Taking a supplement for sugar cravings? Solgar Chromium Piconilate is good.
  4. Listening to Paul Mckenna's CD?-this has helped me. I haven't listened for a week or so-could be why I'm struggling a bit.
  5. Making sure your cupboards are empty of sugar laden/crappy foods?

OK, I'll shut up nowGrin.

Now I just need to take my own advice!!

Shaxx · 22/11/2010 21:18

Thanks for your post iluvcake. You give great advice Smile
I'm doing most of the stuff you've listed but no supplements and no Paul Mckenna.

I think I'll be happier when I've lost about 5lbs and my stomach goes down a bit and my clothes get a bit looser. It just seems every day is going to be a struggle.

I'm going to have another glass of water and then go to bed at 10. I'm so tired today.

justaminute · 22/11/2010 21:24

Iluvcake - I'm suffering Monday diet blues too Sad (and saturday & sunday diet blues!)

I can't compete with the tiredness that dandylioness must be feeling but ds has decided that 5am is a great time to get up. grrr. I know I should go to bed earlier to compensate but it's just not happening - too much -mumsnetting work on the go at the mo. I find it hard to resist the sugar demons when I'm tired.

I also forget to drink water when I'm at home at the weekend. I have shredded and eaten reasonably well today so feeling a bit more positive this evening.

dinkystinky · 23/11/2010 12:51

Dandylioness - snap, DS2 decided sleep was for wimps last night too. And have again managed to bugger my back/abs - on killer anti-inflammatories and painkillers again. Sigh. So no exercise for me for a while. Double sigh. However, you have your fab December break to look forward to - stay strong and get your sugar hits from fruit if need be.

Shaxx - welcome. I can massively recommend pilates for helping redefine your ab muscles - pulls in that muffin top and helps with your day to day posture too. To shift fat though you do need to combine it with cardio and weights ideally.

encyclogirl · 23/11/2010 15:29

Sorry for my AWOLness, work v. busy etc etc.

Big news here is I made it to 9st 4lbs. Which is my goal.

Hmmm doesn't really feel like goal to me, I feel I could keep going, but I'll resist the urge. I can go a bit too far with this sometimes so I'll sit it out here on maintainance over Christmas and see how I'm faring in the new year.

Finding soup to be my absolute saving grace these days. What's not to love? Filling, yummy, low in cals and fat and you get all your veggies in. It's a win, win, win, win, win situation.

Will do some back reading to catch up and post again later.

Hi to all the newbies!!!!!!!!

iluvcake · 23/11/2010 16:24

Encyclogirl, congrats on getting to your goal!!!!!! That's amazing, well doneSmile.

Agree, soup good. I made some lovely soup today but spoilt it with three pieces of bread and butter. I've also had two danish pastries, two blue ribands and a packet of chocolate buttonsSad. DH working from home today and he had a work colleague here for a few hours. He asked me to get something to have with coffee, hence the pastries. His colleague was staying for lunch too so I bought french bread. I'd normally have soup with ryvita or rye bread and no butter. God knows why I just didn't do that anyway.

Aiming to shred later and have something healthy for dinner. Feel so cross with myself for going down this route for the last few days. I'm starting to feel crappy this afternoon due to the rubbish I'm eating. Am going to drag myself kicking and screaming back into the zone.

dinkystinky-ouch!! Not good. Take it easy and hopefully you'll be back to the exercise in no time.

justaminute, well done on the shredding! Keep it up.

Am feeling very sorry for all of you with teething/wide awake little ones! So hard not to stuff yourself with crap when you're tired but you're all going in the right direction. Stay in the zone! I'm planning to join you any minuteWink...

Shaxx · 23/11/2010 19:16

Well done Encyclogirl!! Huge congrats.

I'd love to do pilates but my gym doesn't do it. They do however do an abs class which starts in 15mins. I don't think Ill make it.

Iluvcake sorry you had an 'off' day. Its always annoying afterwards!

My day wasn't too great either.

porridge, skinny cappuccino
grapes
tuna salad, banana
snack a jacks
apple
2 chicken thighs
and the bad part - about 8 chips and 2 marshmallows!

thedogwalker · 23/11/2010 19:56

Well done encyclogirl I can only dream of being that weight [sigh emoticon]

Being feeling knackered all day, always feel like this when wanting to be good (and 3 month old wants to get up early!!!) This is what I've eaten today:

2 x weetabix + banana
2 x slices wholemeal bread, low fat spread, ham, lettuce, cucumber and spring onion
low fat vanilla yoghurt
1 x plum
brown rice with beef sitrfry (beef, red pepper, mange toute and onion)

my DH is at the moment attacking a large bag of pstachio nuts (SP???) I've stayed away but can feel the need to nibble Sad. Really want to lose more of the baby weight before christmas.

Hope everyone is having a good day and not feeling as tired as me xx

TCOB · 23/11/2010 20:26

(shyly waddles in then recoils in shock as she realises she eats twice as much as anyone else) Can I join in ladies? I'm larger than I'd like since DD was born in 4 months ago and feeling a little out of control on the eating front - -plus I'm back at work in a six weeks and currently cannot fit into any of my beloved dresses Sad. Still - lost four stone with DS 5 years ago so I know it can be done with a little bit of support.

Currently about 12.5 stone and should be about 10.5. And dinner was a load of tastless old beans so am now both full and flatulent.

Aiming to be vaguely sexy by Christmas (gotta aim high).

dinkystinky · 23/11/2010 20:37

Welcome TCOB. Congrats on DD's arrival (Thedogwalker has a recent baby too) - at only 4 months post natal you're allowed to still be weighing more than your pre-baby weight. And fwiw, I find being at work makes controlling my eating easier - as less potential biffing food around. How is your eating a little out of control? Is it tiredness eating/emotional eating or just losing your way portion control wise? It really helps if you focus on drinking water - at least 1.5 litres a day - as this limits your solids consumption and reduces water retention.

Shaxx · 23/11/2010 20:59

Hi TCOB and lol at the after effects of your dinner!

I'm rather regretful that I've spent an hr faffing around here on mn when I could've shredded or something instead. I think I need some Rules like no mn til after exercise.

TCOB · 23/11/2010 21:52

Thanks for the warm welcome - I already feel thinner Smile.

Think part of my problem is that I pick all day - but as soon as DH comes home, I have a sort of celebration that we have all made it throught another knackering day and this involves eating/ drinking - also as we never really go out anymore (living out in the sticks/ no babysitters nearby) eating and drinking nice stuff has become a substitute. So guess it is a mixture of emotional (I'm pleased to see him and hand over the kids) and portion control (i.e. I'm celebrating and nobody dare stop me).

It's a really good question Stinky - I'd honestly never really thought about it before.

encyclogirl · 23/11/2010 22:35

Thanks guys :) Just finished my yoga for the evening and sipping my pu-erh tea. I sound like a paragon of virtue don't I?

Hmmmm, for tonight maybe. It's tough to stay focused and not feel drawn to the biccie tin, the very second I hit goal.

What's all that about?

TCOB welcome and congrats!

Hi Shaxx and thedogwalker. Wow loads of new peeps! Brilliant! Will keep me on the straight and narrow I hope.

Dinky, that sounds soooo painful! Hope the meds work.

Iluvcake, stop living up to your name woman! I couldn't have pastries in my house, they would be completely devoured for sure.

justaminute · 23/11/2010 22:42

iluvcake I think me and you need to kick each other up the backside. Smile

I've had a bit of a shocker today too. It started well (branflakes, juice and grapes for snack mid morning) and ended well(turkey casserole, small portion brown rice, yogurt & prunes & the shred) but lunch / afternoon was a wipe out - 7 fingers of Kit Kat and half a packet of custard creams Blush
I think we've both come a long way from where we were in our sugar binging hell but these slippages are not good I need to stop and think more before i fill my mouth with trash.

Dinky - ouch!

Shaxx - your food diary sounds positively mouse like. I'm sure 8 chips & 2 marshmallows can't be bad - then again I'm no role model and thinking like that is probably where I'm going wrong Confused

Encyclogirl - FANTASTIC! Proof that it can be done once you get the right mindset.

Slobbadan · 24/11/2010 07:22

Morning all!

Welcome TCOB and congrats on the baby!I also would like to at least make my self feel vaguly (sp) sexy by christmas, so im making more of an effort to make sure my hair and make-up are done and i look reasonably nice with the clothes i have (took insipation from a thread in style).

Welldone done Encyclo for reaching your goal! I can only dream of being that small at the mo.

welldone to everyone else that has done well.

Im still in the zone, and my back is better so im gonna shred today!

dinkystinky · 24/11/2010 08:59

Encyclo - the 70/30 rule is apparently a good one for maintaining (Zone it 70% of the time, let lose, slightly, for 30% of the time and you'll stay at goal) though in my case I think 80/20 is the best ratio.

Thanks for the lovely get well vibes. I love exercise so get v depressed when I cant do it - am crossing everything that after a week of enforced rest all will be better for next week.

TCOB - if you pick all day, make sure its healthy stuff you're picking at. No biscuits, no cakes - just fruit and veg, maybe a single oatcake with some low fat spread or hummous on it (protein and carb is good snack to stop the cravings) and drink as much fluid as possible in between. I'm sure when you're back at work, your weight will go down as you wont have so many picking opportunities and you'll be running around like a loon trying to fit everything into the day. And as for indulging in food and drink in the evening - its understandable. Just make sure you limit your drink intake (have a few alcohol free nights a week - good for health and waistline) and on the nights you do drink make sensible choices (gin and slimline tonic tonnes less calories than glass of wine and takes longer to drink or if going for wine, have small glass and alternate with glass of water so dont drink too many empty calories) and make sure your evening meal is mostly protein and veg and you'll still see a loss.
