(name change from sneezypants - cold gone now!) Hi MrsKitty, I'm banking on losing enough before she gets here so that a week of bathing in chocolate and inhaling crisps won't hurt too much...but then that's assuming that the stress of thinking about her coming doesn't drive me to cuddle up with my duvet in the larder! Well done on surviving the dreaded visit....I could always light up a fag in front of her and then she might leave my weight alone! Wink

silver28 · 24/08/2010 19:17

Mrskitty's right ashamed you need a more positive name!! I'm trying to be realistic and pragmatic about my weight, not 'oh woe is me, this is such a big struggle and I'll never manage it' (the attitude thar usually defeats me).

I know it must seem like a big mountain to climb but you just need to get started. What made mecthink was when I realised that I had three options: lose weight, stay the same, or put on more weight. I can't face staying this size (or bigger) for the rest if my life so the only alternative is to lose weight. And if I have to do it I might as well do it now as the longer I leave it the more I'll need to lose (and the more if my 30's I'll have wasted).

Anyway, sorry to go on. Don't know why I am really cos everyone on this thread already wants to lose weight for one reason or another. I just like having somewhere that I can 'talk' about this stuff without boring my family and friends!

NewNameNewStart · 24/08/2010 19:22

Thanks everyone

Ashamed has gone

aristocat · 24/08/2010 20:47

newname i agree thats a much better name!

mrskitty yes, i would like to be 10st or less Smile

my reason for losing weight is that i have a bad knee, i went to the GP and he told me that the knee would improve if i lost some.

i took on the challenge and the knee is better already - i still have 3 1/2 stone to lose to be 10 stone.

my DH is very supportive and this helps alot.

puddlepuss · 25/08/2010 12:02

Gonna need loads of support as I've decided that if i'm going to lose weight and be healthier I need to give up smoking aswell so here goes......!

MrsKitty · 25/08/2010 12:11

That's the spirit, Puddle! Just ditch the lot Grin.

I gave up smoking whilst on WW several years ago - I still managed to lose a lot of weight, so don't fall in to the psychological trap of thinking that giving up smoking means you'll gain weight.

Good Luck!

puddlepuss · 25/08/2010 12:21

Thank you! I've just been out and bought packs of unsalted nuts and am going to put them in little bags of 5 or 6 so when I would normally have reached for a fag I can pop them in my mouth and (hopefully) not reach for the chocolate. I bought pistacios so my hands would have something to do aswell - can you tell I've tried this before?? Last time I gave up managed to replace smoking with exercise so hopefully it will all come good. I did ask dh if I could use my most successful form of giving up but he said I'm not allowed another baby Sad!

hendo77 · 25/08/2010 12:58

Puddle, I also gave up smoking when doing ww a few years back and still lost 3 stone (2.5 of which is now back on after rubbish eating a baby - go for it!

Feeling a bit more positive today and I think this thread is going to really help, as it will just remind me what I'm trying to do every day.

MrsKitty · 25/08/2010 13:13

Grin at 'another baby' for giving up smoking!

Glad you're feeling more positive Hendo

phoenixflower · 25/08/2010 16:48

Welcome to all the newbies!

NewNameNewStart - glad you have changed your name, no need to be ashamed. Glad you have joined the thread, I am in a similar boat, I am 21.1stone and need to loose 12 ( if not more) to be healthy for my height.

Ladies, I had a massive wake up call on monday that really shocked me and made me realise how precious and fragile life can be. Don't want to go into it atm as am still quite upset by it but it basically was the biggest slap in the face I have ever had about what I am doing to myself being this big and my eyes are now well and truely open.

It has spired me on and will be my motivation ( for now).

Well, I've done the afternoon without a cigarette and managed not to eat the house so good start....let's see how much fun I am to be around tomorrow!

aristocat · 25/08/2010 18:49

well done puddle love your name BTW Smile
.......... did the nuts work?

MrsKitty · 25/08/2010 18:56

Well done Puddlepuss

Hope you're OK Phoenix.

puddlepuss · 25/08/2010 19:16

Phoenix - I don't really know what to say but I hope you're ok.x

The nuts are almost as bad as the fags - they cost a fortune and I have to go outside to eat them or the kids nab them off me. (Not that the kids nabbed the fags off me.....just the going outside bit!)

Aristo - ta. It has many meanings!!

Headbanger · 25/08/2010 19:20

Hi Phoenix - can I just say, I remember you from a thread a few months back when you were feeling pretty low, and I'm so impressed you're being so positive and proactive Smile. I have put on 20lb in the past year or so and I think it's starting to affect my fertility Sad so I am joining Slimming World next week - I'll drop in here now and then for motivation and to see how you're doing... good luck!

silver28 · 25/08/2010 19:23

Hi Phoenix, hope you're alright.

puddlepuss well done - first day of your fresh start! And think of all the money you'll save - I worked out yesterday that it'd cost me over £1k per year to smoke like I used to. def couldn't afford that now. I also spend shed loads of money on junk food, chocolate etc so hope to save now dieting.

hendo77 · 25/08/2010 20:10

Phoenix - hope you are OK.

Well done on the smoking front puddlepuss!

I think I am going to eat the right amount of points today for the first time!

silver28 · 26/08/2010 22:39

Yay, lost 2.5 lbs at weigh in today. Only 7.5 lbs in total but at least things are heading in the right direction for a change. Plus I'm enjoying feeling a bit better about myself (Even though I've only lost a tiny bit of weight I feel lighter just cos I'm not stuffed and not being secretive about what I eat).

MrsKitty · 26/08/2010 22:53

Well, being back on the straight & narrow since Monday clearly worked for me this week...Lost 4lbs at weigh in tonight! Grin That's 15lbs total - lost my first stone - Yay!

Must admit to being quite Shock at 4lbs - was only hoping for 1 or 2. Makes up for my measly 1/2 lb last week.

MrsKitty · 26/08/2010 22:55

Well done Silver - 7.5lbs isn't a tiny amount - it's a whole half a stone Grin.

silver28 · 26/08/2010 23:12

Wow well done mrskitty, that's great weight loss in a week, espec when it's not your first week. And losing a stone is a great milestone, you must be really happy.

I was really pigging out until I got back on the straight and narrow in Sunday, so figure I put on several lbs then lost them plus an extra 2.5 lbs in the last five days. Feel motivated again, hope to lose at least 2 lbs next week.

aristocat · 26/08/2010 23:29

well done silver and mrskitty you have both done fantastic this week Smile

i am finding it hard to swim as often during the school holidays. whilst DCs are at school i have been going 4 times a week and am only managing 2 or 3 ATM.

school resumes next week though!

puddlepuss · 27/08/2010 08:31

Wow! Well done Silver and Mrs Kitty. Half a stone/a whole stone is an amazing amount to lose! I'm waiting til I get the Wii Fit out again next week (when ds is back at school) to see if I've lost anymore over the summer. I'm hoping I have as my jeans keep falling down when I walk Blush!

(might have had teh odd cig yesterday though - I spent 5 hours making my son a Lightening Mcqueen cake for his birthday today and got quite stressed with it. Oh well, today is another day...)

hendo77 · 27/08/2010 09:28

Well done Silver and MrsKitty - silver sevens all round! Not sure what you mean about only 7.5 lbs in total - that's a huge amount!

I've had one really good day but then saw someone eating a McDonalds and just got obsessed about having one and so did yesterday. Didn't let it ruin the rest of my day too much though which is a big step for me as usually once I fall of the straight and narrow I then purposely stuff my face and think I'll start again tomorrow. We're away for the weekend now so going to try my best and will weigh myself on Tuesday morning...

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend...
