Well, my jeans won't stay up, my dh has even noticed a difference Shock so I decided to give myself a boost and weigh myself. I've only lost 1kg!!!! In a month!!! Sad Mind you, I guess it's good incentive to up the exercise and not get complacent.

tillymama · 29/08/2010 16:35

Hi,

Can I join you ladies?

I'm currently 15st 8lbs Confused and need to shift a lot of weight to get down to a healthy BMI. I'm aiming to get down to 12st, so a loss of 3st 8lbs.

I've signed up to Food Focus (online calorie counting/food log thingy) this weekend, so I'm hoping keeping track of things will help.

I'm going for healthy eating, lower calorie/fat, and sorting out my portion sizes. I just eat too much!!

Hoping having some people in the same boat on here might help with the motivation!

puddlepuss · 29/08/2010 20:04

Hi tillymama, That's what I weighed a couple of months ago and that's how I got the first stone off. Let me know if the Food Focus thing works - I keep meaning to do that but never remember to sign up or fill it out!

phoenixflower · 29/08/2010 22:13

Welcome to all the newbies. All welcome here :)

I thought I had posted a message the other day but can't find it now so maybe it didn't actually post :(

Thanks for the concern ladies, I am okay now :)

Been on/off this weekend so will see what scales say tomorrow

puddlepuss · 31/08/2010 07:41

So, how's everyone doing? My dh is away at the moment and I weakened and had a burger for dinner and nachos to snack on later - naughty puddlepuss! Still, today's another day and I've planned/prepared healthy food all day so fingers crossed....

hendo77 · 31/08/2010 08:10

Hello everyone! I've been away for the weekend, so wasn't sure how that would work out with the eating healthily thing - but I did make good choices (sometimes) for example I choose nice salads to eat and had the dressing on the side so that I could havea piece of cake one day. I have lost 2.5 lbs this week so down to 17 st 0.5 lbs now. I'm hoping i can lose at least one lb this week as that would make me 16 something which always makes you feel like you've lost weight. Hope everyone else had a good weekend.

puddlepuss · 31/08/2010 08:56

Wow! Well done Hendo! I'm on the 1 or 2 lbs til a stone change moment - it makes it all worth while doesn't it? Smile

MrsKitty · 31/08/2010 11:22

Well done Hendo Grin

Hi Supermummy - welcome Smile

Puddlepuss - a burger & nachos aren't the end of the world - well done for planning the rest of the week.

I'm getting into a bit of a rut of the same stuff all the time - any suggestions for tasty, low point, easy to make meals (ideally that the whole family can eat) are welcome.

silver28 · 31/08/2010 13:30

Hi everyone and welcome to all the new comers. not posted for ages as tend to use my iphone which is a pain to type on, but am at work at the mo so thought i'd make the most of a proper keyboard.

well done Hendo on losing 2.5 lbs and also on staying sensible while away for the weekend. i usually end up pigging out when we go away or when we have friends visiting, and then nine times out of ten i write off the rest of the week too. and sometimes it has taken over three months to get back on track, in which time i put on all the weight i had lost plus a pile more. so congratulations on not falling into that trap!

I have done ok this week. i had planned to ge really stric with myself and try to loss 3 or 4 lbs but i find that really hard to manage nowadays. have to be satisfied with doing reasonably well and lossing a couple of pounds (hopefully). According to my scales i have lost 2 lbs but don't get weighed officially 'til thursday.

i've ordered a book from amazon that someone recommended (not sure if it was on here or another thread)- it's called Overcoming Overeating: Conquer your obsession with food forever. Am hoping that it will motivate me further. Will let you know whether it's any good. I've never read any books on this topic before (i've always thought it's just common sense and i should eat less and move more - of course) but i thought that it might help me consider why i have such crap and self destructive behaviour when it comes to food. can't do any harm to try it.

anyway, good luck everyone and hope you're all happy with how things are going.

silver28 · 31/08/2010 13:33

God, thought i might be able to type properly with a proper keyboard, but apparently not! think i may be too reliant on auto correcting spell check!

silver28 · 31/08/2010 14:04

Mrskitty i was justthinking about low point recipes, and i'm prob not the est person to suggest things as i also get stuck in a rut. i also like a filling dinner (usually use about 8 points for the main meal). Often have stir fried chciken or prawns with veg, noodles and a chinese sauce. or pasts witha tomato sauce, chopped ham, onions, peppers and sweetcorn. if i'm really lazy i stir low fat mayo, tuna and corn into some boiled pasta. boiled new potatoes, marinated pork chop and veg is also filling and pretty low in points.

you know, i'm not a bad cook really and can make great rost dinners etc, but i sound like the worst and most boring cook in the world now!

DH is working late a lot at the moment so i often have a bowl of cereal and a pack or low fat crisps - not v good for me but low in points and nice and tasty!

supermummmy · 31/08/2010 15:50

had a long day today and i am so tired just going to cook dinner. but i have done ok so far .last night i felt so ill cause i ate way too much but starting to feel better now. i weighed this morning and i found out that i am 12 stones 13 lbs. but i feel so huge and bloated.
hope every one else is having a good day.

puddlepuss · 02/09/2010 09:21

Never never make chocolate brownies for the kids while your dh is away - not good, not good at all......whoops!

silver28 · 02/09/2010 13:20

Hi puddlepuss, I completely agree! Have recently enjoyed baking buns and biscuits with ds, but gave had to put a stop to it as I feel compelled to eat half of the raw mixture (plus most of the baked goodies as ds only likes to ear the icing and decorations)!

puddlepuss · 02/09/2010 13:29

I'm normally really good and quite strong wiled but when dh is away and I'm bored in the evening something drags me into the kitchen and forces me to eat 3 of whatever I've baked. Still, ds is back at school now so no more baking-to-make-the-day-go-quicker-without-the-aid-of-cbeebies now!

aristocat · 02/09/2010 14:29

hi ladies

well my DCs are back at school today, and i too have been eating more while they were at home. i also haven't been able to swim as much as i wanted Sad but have been today already.
swimming makes me feel so much better/healthier.

my next target is 13st and i need to shift 5 or 6 lbs to get there - prolly take a few weeks.

however the best news is that my clothes are too big and i have bought size 16 jeans last week and need to throw away the size 20s .................

mrskitty i make a salad like a coleslaw type thing. it is shredded white cabbage, grated carrot, red onion, sometimes julienne[strips] of cucumber, red pepper all mixed together with a little very very low-fat mayo.
i have this with a jacket spud and chicken which has been marinated in low-fat yoghurt and spices.

its delish Smile

actually i have this coleslaw with almost everything Blush

puddlepuss · 02/09/2010 15:04

I make my own onion chutney - onions, sugar, balsamic vinegar, chilli - and have it on everything. It makes rivita with low fat cream cheese that little bit more appetising and a little goes a long way so while it's full of sugar I only use about 1/4 teaspoon per rivita so not too bad.

hendo77 · 02/09/2010 17:47

Some good low point things we like are:

  • jacket potatoes with lots of salad then various fillings depending on points we have (baked beans, tuna mayo, small bit of cheese, philadelphia extra light etc...). I think a medium jacket potato is about 2.5 points so if you just have salad then you can use a many or few points as you like for fillings.
  • my 'emergency' low point dinner is fish fingers from freezer with baked beans/tinned sweetcorn and low fat oven chips. tbh we rarely rely on this now, but it has been better than a take away which is usually our other option!!!
  • casserole style stuff in general are pretty good so coq au vin, lamb shank, chicken or lamb casserole. Add lots of carrots, onions etc.. and stock and cook lots of nice green beans etc.. on the side. I've been buying those uncle ben microwave rices to control our carb portion sizes in the evenings.
  • we've also found making our own curry (using sauce from a jar so easy!) can be good, especially if you make it a vegetable one, or mainly veg with a little bit of meat in it. Check the sauces to see what are lower in points but things more tomato based are better obviously!
  • fish is usually quite low. Salmon wrapped in foil with some orange/lemon juice and seasoned with a bit of salt and lots of pepper is nice and easy. 20 minutes in oven - then have veggies with it.

Don't know if any of that helps, but those are our low point staples!

Puddlepuss - your onion chutney sounds lovely. Can you tell me quanitites and how you actually make it?

aristocat · 02/09/2010 18:31

mmmm agree your chutney sounds good Smile
i have a recipe for onion chilli relish here is it similar?

MrsKitty · 02/09/2010 22:17

Aristocat - your coleslaw sounds lovely - will definitely have to try that.

Puddle - instructions on how to make your chutney please? Grin

Staple meals in our house are Chicken Curry/Biryani, Chilli, Bolognaise (all of which I bulk out with vast amounts of onion/mushroom/carrot), Roasted Veg, Jacket Potatoes, Potato Wedges with ham / salad /egg etc, Cottage Cheese & tomatoes on toast. Can't stand fish, unfortunately, which is a shame as I know it's low points...

Weigh in today - lost 1/2 lb. Am happy with that after such a big loss last week...All going in the right direction Smile

puddlepuss · 03/09/2010 07:10

Well, I've never actually measured the ingredients but roughly it's :

4 large onions, chopped
Enough sugar to coat all the onions
2 teaspoons chilli powder (more or less according to taste)
Balsamic vinegar to taste (probably about 1/2 to 1 cup)

Chuck onions and surgar and chilli into a pan. Cook until sugar is bubbling. Add vinegar and cook for 20 mins on a low simmer.

Sometimes it thickens a lot, sometimes only a bit. I'm sorry it's not very helpful but I tend to just chuck things in and hope for the best and if it works I do it by eye the next time. I'll make some at the weekend and try measuring!

aristocat · 03/09/2010 13:25

i have been to my GP for my knee/healthy eating check up today and he reckons a BMI of 28 would be ok for me.

when i started in june it was 41 Shock and today it was 36.
my target of 10 stone would mean a BMI of 27 - does anyone else measure their BMI?

puddlepuss that chutney sounds good Smile

silver28 · 03/09/2010 13:53

Just calculated my bmi to be 33.6. To achieve a bmi of 25 I need to be 12 St 6 lb, which means losing 4 St 4 lbs.

Lost just 1 lb this week which was a little disappointing but at least it was off and not on.
