I weighed myself yesterday StudiousSal and I am only 4lbs less than you. Heaviest I have ever been. Tomorrow I am off to the gym ( not sure I can manage much but am going).

I love slimming world StudiousSal. I did it last year and had great success. Was 2 stone lighter when I started and lost 2 stone. But at christmas I piled it back on ( plus 2 extra stone!).

needless to say, I don't go to SW anymore! Know the rules though so may do at home!

Hello everyone, just been reading above and very inspired by the motivation going on around here. I wonder may I join you for the journey?

My story so far is;

I started in January with around 6 stone to lose and have managed to get rid of 3.5 stone so far. I never thought I'd get this far but have found some tricks that have worked for me.

Husband and I are trying to conceive and having trouble and all the advice pointed to my weight being a contributor to the problem.

I signed up to a boot camp back in April. I knew it was going to be really hard so that gave me extra motivation to keep going with sensible eating and regular exercise in the run up to that. (Crikey just reread that - makes me sound angelic... I'm actually rubbish at sticking to diets normally). Anyway in one week of sheer hell of exercise and restricted (but healthy) diet at boot camp I managed to lose 11.5 lb.

The camp also focussed a lot on giving us the skills to keep it going, in particular working out what motivates you and how to deal with barriers to losing weight. As a result I have kept it up and gone from not being able to run for a bus to doing 10k runs for fun (OK they're still not easy but still I'm managing to do them!!)

I'm going back next week for more as I can now really see myself making my goal of a healthy BMI this year - something I've never even dreamed of before.

If I as the worlds worst dieter and exercise avoider can do this so can anybody!

Love and positive vibes all. Apologies for the essay!

silver28 · 15/08/2010 19:49

I went to a slimming world meeting a few months ago and cried when I got home as didn't know what I could eat as it all seemed so complicated! I know other people who swear by it though so it can't be that bad. (by the way I'm honestly not stupid, just not used to duets that allow some foods and not others, seemed like such an effort).

I'm sticking with weightwatchers now as have had success with it in the past (although I guess not much success considering I ended up putting all the weight back in and more!) and know points values fir many foods off the top of my head.

I might as well be honest and say that I currently weigh 16 stone 11 lbs. Started at 17 stone 5 lbs about 3 weeks ago. Only person that knows my weight in real life is my best friend. You know, I was so shocked when I passed the 15 stone mark, and then the 16 and then finally the 17. At the rate I was putting on weight I'd have passed 18 stone by Christmas - time to do something about it.

Hope everyone's had a good weekend. If not no worries, what's done can't be undone and tomorrow is another day.

silver28 · 15/08/2010 19:55

flyingcat that's really inspirational. You've done so well. Re the running, I know other people who have gone from being completely unfit to being able to run half marathons etc. I really wish I could do that as it's great exercise, cheap and would be easy to fit into my lifestyle ( I live in a remote village so no gym handy). How did you manage? Just start with short runs and build up? About five years ago I was v slim and v fit ( went to gym a lot and regular netball) and even then I never got the hang if running, although I only tried a few times.

Surprise · 15/08/2010 20:04

Can I join in too please? I need to lose 2 1/2 stone, and have tried everything going, but just lack willpower. Am going to try cutting down to 1800 cals (need 2100 to maintain) and then the plan is to exercise 4 times per week. Walking, swimming, Wii Fit and possibly aerobics/jogging as I get fitter/slimmer.

Good luck everyone x

FlyingCat · 15/08/2010 20:13

Hi Silver

I know what you mean about the running - I never beleived I'd ever be able to do it. At boot camp I was only capable of walking really, very frustrating decided not to let myself get away with it any longer.

Actually succeeded with the running (and got hooked!) by using an iphone app (called get running) which started off with baby steps (eg run 30 secs walk - or in my case stagger and wheeze - for 5 mins repeat a few times)

I've found it a really sustainable way of exercising as I absolutely hate the gym. I actually run most of the way to work nowadays (we are lucky enough to have showers in the office). It's extra nice getting to work and feeling really virtuous all day Grin

Good luck to you however you go but I really recommend an app, or I beleive similar exist as just audio tracks if you don't have an iphone.

FlyingCat · 15/08/2010 20:17

Hi surprise wow you are lucky. My calories to maintain is only 1600 so I have to plan pretty carefully not to feel deprived. The joy of being short I guess :)

Well done you if you manage to do exercise 4 times a week - I feel proud when I manage 3 times a week.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 15/08/2010 20:25

Hello everyone Smile

I will join you if its ok?! I am 11st 6lbs but i am only 5'1 so it im quite a bit overweight.

I have done Slimming world in the past and lost 2 stone but the new consultant i s a bit of a cow and i will be embarking on pato rehersals from now untilafter Xams so i cant go to the groups.

I am trying healthy eating combined with a daily excersise, i have been doing just dance on the Wii and walking more.

I have also been using www.myfitnesspal.com its free and tells you your calorie intake ect.

I keep joining threads then disapearing. I am setting tiny goals at a time to make it seem managable so am starting with a goal of 11 stone then will move it.

Sorry ment Xmas not xams. Blush

FlyingCat · 15/08/2010 20:35

Hi Titsalina good for you I know how hard it can be fitting healthy eating/ exercising around a rehearsal schedule good luck. Hope to see you around here from time to time.

I also use myfitnesspal (I'm a bit of an app junkie) and I really like it. makes it harder to ignore what you've eaten and tells you when the reason you feel like eating crap is because you've not eaten enough... does happen occasionally Hmm

bourboncreme · 15/08/2010 22:22

Hi,I've also been using myfitnesspal,I really need to stick to something this time, have lost previously on WW but always seem to put it on or lose interest.Am always joining threads and not going back but really feel this is it;just got back fromn holiday and don't want another one where I feel a whale, also the children have made subtle comments like referring to me as cuddly.

So am saving this thread in favourites and am determined this time to do it

MrsKitty · 15/08/2010 23:42

Well...if we're doing weigh ins... I started WW at 16st 10 lbs 4 weeks ago - am now 16st. My points have gone a bit squiffy this weekend, but I don't think It's been too bad - I don't think I've necessarily gone over, as I've not made really bad choices, but I've not been tracking this weekend, so don't know for sure.

Have a good week everyone Smile

silver28 · 16/08/2010 20:09

Aaaarrrggghh. I was so good over the weekend and have been useless today! V restrained 'til lunchtime then dud some baking with ds this afternoon troughed loads, including scraping the bowl out ( ds didn't want to, honest!). Feel like crap now but am not going to let this turn into anything more than a short blip.

StudiousSal · 16/08/2010 20:31

Hi Everyone, well today I have been really good, had porridge this morning, a salad for lunch and a jacket potato and beans for dinner, I've also got some crab sticks for snacks, which I haven't even started yet Grin.

I've just been looking at the slimming world web site and their free sample menu, and I've come to the conclusion with girls at work that we honestly don't eat enough!!! I can't believe how much you can eat with them.

Shineon I would love the password for them thankyou my addy is sallyc at ntlworld.com

phoenixflower · 18/08/2010 14:31

How is everyone doing? Fallen off the wagon here ( Can i blame school holidays and DC at home? Grin No? ... oh okay Blush )

Need a huge kick up the backside. Did anyone see "Who knows best" on c4 last night? I need a personal trainer like that to come and kick my ass!

OP posts:
StudiousSal · 18/08/2010 18:00

Hi phoenix, well I've been good so far, but I'm sitting here thinking I could kill for some chocolate!! Someone at work told me about "who knows best" last night I didn't see it myself, as I was at work, I don't think I've got the energy for all that too bloody knackered Grin

MrsKitty · 19/08/2010 08:35

Think I've had another good week...weigh in tonight so will check in later!

aristocat · 19/08/2010 09:19

hello ladies

can i join too? i have been on a low-fat diet since June and have almost lost 2 stone through healthy eating and lots of swimming.
however my goal is to weigh under 10stone, still 3 1/2stone to go.

i dont care if it takes me a year or even two years to be a healthy weight, it shall be done. i have willpower and we can all help each other Smile

PinkChick · 19/08/2010 11:08

Hi Smile can i dip a toe in too? Smile...i lost 3stone 2 year ago and have discovered yesterday that a nasty stone has cret back on SadAngry...i weigh 14 st 12lbs and want to be 12st as a marker, my suggested weight is under 8st!!! that isnt going to happen,at my lowest id like to be around 10st, but 12 is my goal.

im a childminder so struggle with picking through the day then by evening im not hungry and can quite happily have cereal instead of a meal.
My main downfall is chocolateHmm so have bought high lights..when i say down fall, i mean a packet of bisbuits/2-3 bars a day Blush..yeasterday i managed with NOTHING apart from a hi lights drink Smile
Was quite pleased with my eating (branflakes for brekky, beans & little cheese on toast for lunch, home made sausage-better for you- casserole for dinner..then my drink with a thin breakfast biscuit.

This morning has been branflakes again and early lunch of plain egg omlette in 2 slices best of both bread with dollop of sauce -no butter, cooked in fry light- am thinking chicken dinner for dinner tonight.

i am surprising myself at my will power so far, just been into shop with dd and children and didnt even want choc/sweety stuff, my conscience was arguing with itself lol, so am hoping to keep this up.

Am getting back to gym in morning for an hour and walk all over with the children, so am very active but not overly fit.

Looking forward to the group feel so we can encourage eachother and give out kicks up the bum and pats on the back Smile

off to wake babie up for early lunch now, speak soon.x

mummywith3boys · 20/08/2010 08:52

Hi This is my first post on mumsnet so bear with me!!

I started weight watchers last september and lost 2 stone. Then I gave up a bit and a little bit has snuck back on!Still got at least 5 stone to lose.

The summer holidays is making it difficult...I am a comfort eater and sometimes after a long day with my three sons I really feel I need a treat...yes I know this is a bad way to look at food but I am being honest!! Also I tend to have more things in for them to eat, and I am distinctly lacking in willpower.

So would love to join you if I may?!

StudiousSal · 20/08/2010 17:55

Hi Mummy the more the merrier I say, welcome and everyone else, well I've been really good, so far! However we did all try slimfast at work for 2 days, omg never again, I'm surprised we never blew the windows out in the office Grin.

It just blows you up, so I went back to the healthy eating and I just wear a gas mask now at work! Blush.

How's everyone else doing?

MrsKitty · 20/08/2010 19:08

Weighed in last night - lost 1/2 lb. Am OK with that as I should have dropped a point a day last week but didn't (just to see if I could get away with it! Obviously I can't... Hmm)

Have had my mum staying for the last couple of days, we don't get on, and I must admit to having eaten a fair amount of junk over the last two days and going over my points, mainly because she drives me mad and the food is probably a comfort/anger/rebellion thing - stupid, I know. Annoyed that I've let my feelings sabotage the week so far Angry. Will do my best to get back on track and pull it together again asap.

Hi to all the new joiners

hendo77 · 20/08/2010 19:21

Can I join in too please?

I have joined ww online having had success losing about 3 stone on it a couple of years ago. I think I have put nearly all of it back on, but my scales need calibrating and so I can't weigh myself at moment - going to buy some at the weekend hopefully as at the moment that has been my excuse to 'start on Monday'!. I think I weight just over 17 stone and therefore need to lose about 7 stone.

I too am a secret binge eater - have just done an online shop with meals planned for this week so hopefully won't have rubbish in the house to binge on. I found before that after a few weeks I got over the obsessing about what I was eating a bit and was less tempted to be 'bad'.

I'm also going to try not to let a bad meal turn into a bad day, or a bad day turn into a bad week as that is often my downfall.
