Hello everyone, I'm due to start on MJ in the next few days, and I'm feeling nervous!

I've been above size 20 since I was about 14/15 years old. The highest weight I've ever logged was 134kg, about 14 years ago. I'm currently 117kg. I also have issues with my heart caused by Cushing's, type 2 diabetes and PMOS.

In the past few years, I'm yo-yo'd between 125kg and 110kg three times. I know how to lose weight and can do it... but as soon as work gets busy or stressful, I fail and give up. I also have an issue with binge and secret eating.

I went for my annual diabetic review yesterday and the nurse basically used the whole time telling me about going on MJ, because my BMI is over 40 (well, as of yesterday's weigh in, I'm 39. something) and because of my other health conditions. I didn't have to fight for it, or request it.. they're just giving it to me.

Now I'm doing as much reading/ video watching as I can to clue myself up.

On my on-track days, I eat:

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs with some flavouring- chilli flakes or marmite or 15g cheddar.

Lunch: Chicken thigh fillet in some kind of seasoning mix, salad made of lettuce, pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, sugarsnaps, carrot. Sometimes 3 cream crackers and a laughing cow triangle as well.

Dinner: Varies- roast chicken dinner/ 5% fat mince spaghetti bolognese with wholewheat pasta/ beef burger without the bun with cheese, salad on half the plate, usually without chips, noodles with chicken and stirfry veg.

Snacks: Usually a portion of berries/ a nectarine/ cherries/ 25g peanuts at 4pm.

How does that sound?

I have a treadmill and run/walk at 6.5/6km/hr pace for 30 mins three times a week. The nurse said I should do some weights for my arms too.

Any recommendations for which day I should inject?

I am also staying on 2.5mg for my next month. I spoke to the Medexpress clinical team and they advised this since I have had a few side effects mid month.

i am hungrier now though but after I eat I never feel like snacking on biscuits etc. Hope this month I will continue to lose weight as last week the scales didn’t move.

MadameMacaron · 27/08/2026 15:30

i wasn’t sure but in the end I decided to stick with 2.5mg for month 2. Was losing 2-3lbs a week but I feel this has slowed right down in week 4. However, like others I am away on holiday soon so don’t want side effects increased. I am planning to take the pen and jab whilst I am away.

@DeedlessIndeed

I am walking about 10K steps a day and doing some mild exercise. But thinking I should really start some kind of strength training to avoid the skinny fat situation.

That is a great idea, and it doesn’t have to mean hours in a gym. There are lots of strength exercise you can do in odd moments, with little or no equipment. For example

  1. Wall sit. Stand with your back against a wall and lower down until your thighs are as near as you can get to parallel with the floor without straining your knees. Then just sit there, for as long as you can. Work towards 30 seconds. Do it twice a day.

  2. Push ups. Start with leaning against the kitchen counter, then the stairs, then knee push-ups on the floor. Personally I’ve never progressed to full push-ups, but it doesn’t matter - knee push-ups are great. Work up to 20 reps, do them daily.

  3. Plank. Forearms on the ground, balance on your toes, keeping the body as flat as you can (don’t stick your bum in the air!) and…. hold. Work up to 30 seconds, do it once or twice daily.

I do wall sits or squats while waiting fo rather kettle to boil, ankle drops and calf raises on the bottom stair at odd moments, sit-to-stands during ad breaks etc. I do gym workouts a couple of times a week as well, but I’m confident the little daily exercise snacks add up as well.

There are loads more you can find online.

Blushingviolets · 27/08/2026 18:21

Did my second jab this morning. I lost 1.4kg in the first week and although I was a bit sad it wasn’t more it’s still a good start. Didn’t think the suppression was that bad so I went and did a really intense workout with the intention of having dinner after. I’ve come into the kitchen now and I can’t even think about food. Having a protein shake because I know I need something and at least I can sip it!

Blushingviolets · 27/08/2026 18:22

@PuzzledObserver I love a wall sit! My favourite type of torture 😅

Hello, late joiner here as August is almost over! My Mounjaro is arriving tomorrow from Morrisons - having read through the thread and searched t’internet it seems there’s no “best time” to inject so I’m going to do it as soon as it arrives, to save me having to put it in the fridge! (Don’t want youngest to see it, she’s body conscious and a size 8 but moans about her “belly”, I will hopefully get smaller but I’m hoping she will just see that resulting from healthy eating as I’m kicking out all junk food)

SW 12st 12
GW 11st

have also just started HRT as menopausal so am trying to fix myself totally! Nervous but excited, I’ve lost half a stone since New Year just by eating sensibly (and to be honest I’m not feeling as hungry as I used to anyway), hoping the MJ will boost the results and get me back to where I was about 10 years ago or more (size 14/large 12)

MiaN · 28/08/2026 07:40

I have to say I love it so far. It has been fantastic. I know it's early days but I feel so much happier. I love the lack of food noise

HappyNewt · 28/08/2026 08:16

Has anyone switched supplier for their 2nd pen? I pretty much stuck with the same supplier last time and returned to them for my first order to complete my weight loss, mainly because I just thought it would be easier to restart with the same supplier.

But the prices now seem to encourage new customers, effectively penalising those who remain with higher prices.

Looking at monj.co.uk I can certainly get the 5mg pen for less than the £170 incl. delivery that it will cost with IQDoctor...but they were very reliable with delivery last time (apart from when it all got weird when the pricing changed last year).

Considering switching to Medicine Marketplace as they have a good base price plus some discount and also a good trustpilot score.... anyone switched to them for 2nd pen or have any other experience of them. Also it is a name that I recognise from first time around.

For anyone considering IQDoctor - I found them great last time and again for restarting - easy process, timely approval, and dispatched well - comes through royal mail, which is great for me as our postie is very reliable.

Thanks

Hi

i understand why you want to hide it from your daughter but you will still have to store it in the fridge after you take the first dose.

some people disguise it in another packaging that others wouldn’t be interested in. Or in the bottom of the veg drawer.

Heard someone say they put theirs in a garlic puree box in the fridge 😆

PuzzledObserver · 28/08/2026 09:44

Morning all, a quick check in from me. Still happy with the amount of appetite suppression I’m getting - enough to remove the excess hunger and urges for snacking and portion creep, not so much that I can’t enjoy my food. I am down another three and a bit pounds, for a total of 6.5lb in the first 2 weeks.

I should be due to inject today, but am going to leave it until tomorrow. I have been reading/listening to quite a few people’s experiences, and once I am ready to move up from 2.5mg I plan on doing some split and short dosing to tailor my level of suppression to what’s coming up in my life. I want to do 2x48 hour fasts per week for a few months to get me to my goal. I reckon if I split my dose and inject twice a week, before each fast, I will have the highest suppression at the time I need it most. Then in between, when it’s important to get lots of good nutrition in, I will be able to eat well and relish it.

My provider, Curley, sends 4 needles and swabs with each pen. So I will need to buy more of each to facilitate this course of action.

For now, though, another 2.5mg tomorrow.

Completely agree. Absolute game changer. It feels like taking back control.
I do wonder why my body can't do this for itself and my brain understand that I really don't want to snack, but taking the help from MJ and getting on with it.
Everyone is doing so well. Sneaky weigh before tomorrow. 3lb off which I'm very happy with.

Looking at the instructions I had from Morrisons for the Mounjaro it only said refrigerate until first dose? Don’t know if Wegovy is different.

I use Weygovy, and once you've used the pen once, you don't need to keep it refrigerated.

I have been on holiday this week, and although my appetite wasn't huge, I've eaten a lot. We ate out every day and i had an ice cream every day. My partner has now gone home and weigh in day is on Monday officially. Hopefully I've not seen a massive gain, and I'll be good over the next few days.

PuzzledObserver · 28/08/2026 12:42

I don’t have to worry about anyone else seeing my pen, as there is only me and DH and he knows about it. I plan on keeping mine in the fridge both before and after opening.

For one thing, it’s just easier. For another, I may well get into using a pen longer than 30 days after opening, and the received wisdom of those who do that is that refrigeration is important. Certainly if you leave it at room temperature after opening, you MUST discard it after 30 days.

Housemum · 28/08/2026 13:29

I’m getting very impatient, post office tracking hasn’t updated to time slot yet just due today!! Slightly nervous, hoping not to get side effects or if I do get them they are mild. If it’s nausea I do have some cyclizine in the house and that is OK to take with MJ. Weird, this week I’ve been less hungry and not noticing food BEFORE I’ve started taking it, obviously it’s been on my mind! Really hoping that I can use this to kick start me into good habits, I don’t have a huge amount to lose (one stone would be the minimum, preferably 1.5 and dream would be 2 stone).

other than avoiding fatty and sugary foods (easy enough on the sweet side as I don’t really like over-sweet things), are there any good suggestions for foods to eat more of and foods to avoid? I was thinking along the lines of bran flakes/fruit & fibre for breakfast, a wrap for lunch (usually have something like tomato/peppers/feta or chicken/salad) and a sensible sized dinner. Should I be eating fewer carbs? Dinner is usually something with rice, pasta or potato?

Anseranser · 28/08/2026 13:51

Hi all, I did my first jab on Tuesday afternoon and so far I'm not sure it's made any difference at all. I'm being quite good with not indulging in snacks, but it's hard to tell if that's the WLI helping, or just early-days commitment 😂 I'll be interested to see if it feels any different over the next week. No side effects at all so far, which is nice!

Friedscrambledpoached · 28/08/2026 14:58

Welcome new joiners!

A little update from me. I did my 4th jab last night. Strangely this past week at the start I felt an increase in appetite but it really dropped off towards the end of the week and I've been almost forcing myself to eat the last couple of days. Today I haven't eaten anything yet which is unheard of for me. Even when trying to intermittent fast I usually can only make it to 11am or noon. I am struggling a bit with constipation. I've tried fibre gummies and upping my fibre intake but it isn't making much of a difference so I'm going to try movicol.

My first week I only lost 1 lb. 2nd week 1.5lb but this week I've lost 2.5lbs which I'm thrilled with! So that's 5lbs in 3 weeks :)

5 ft 4
SW 13 stone 4 lbs
CW 12 stone 13 lbs
GW 10 stone for a healthy BMI with wiggle room but I'd be thrilled with 11 stone!

As I've said before, my diet was quite healthy before but portions were too big and I snacked too much. I'm astonished at how much less I'm able to eat now. It's so freeing to have no food noise/hunger and I have more energy so I'm able to exercise more (yoga and walking).

When I look at the difference in my eating/exercise the last 3 weeks, although I am happy with the 5lb loss, I would have expected a bigger loss so it just goes to show even when I'm doing everything right - the loss is still slow and steady. I really had no chance without the Mounjaro! I've decided to stick with 2.5mg for my next pen.

@Housemum I've found that I've naturally stopped craving carbs (which is a miracle as I'm usually addicted to toast). I'm focussing on protein but as I say, I'm struggling with constipation which could be due to less carbs/fibre so just see what works for you. I'm still serving rice/pasta with my evening meal but I find myself leaving a lot of it and going for the protein first and foremost.

It is recommended to start the day with protein though. I'm having scrambled eggs or a smoothie bowl (oats, natural yoghurt, chia seeds and berries) for breakfast. Maybe keep the bran flakes for a fibre snack. I'm having weetabix occasionally to try and help up my fibre intake).

@HappyNewt I switch suppliers every month to get the cheapest deal and have had no problems. It just takes about 5 minutes each time to register and take pictures or a video, but for me it is worth it. My third 2.5mg pen was the cheapest at 95 pounds.

Can you list some off the suppliers you used please. I'm trying to get sorted with a new one and they're seeking a report from my gp - frig that!

DeedlessIndeed · 28/08/2026 16:15

@PuzzledObserver - thanks, this is very useful to a historically non-exerciser like me!

Cheesecake53 · 28/08/2026 16:18

Hi @CatMonj The three I used so far are

My London Pharmacy - the nicest - sent five needles and wipes and many emails with lots of information. They asked for a video and ID.

Then Happen - beware they subscribe, but it is easy to cancel, but you have to cancel or they "conveniently" just charge you again. They sent four needles. They asked for a picture, scale picture and ID.

Then New Health most recently without any problems. They sent five needles. They asked for a picture where I show three fingers and a scale picture, plus ID.

None asked for a GP report, but asked if they can tell my GP and I said yes, but only one did contact my GP.

I chose them from monj.co.uk and they were the cheapest each time. I realised, too, that whom the cheapest is changes throughout the day.

I used that comparasion site too. I used Happen first off then was going to switch to New Health but order wouldn't let me check out then the price jumped up so I was going to go work medicspot but they want the report. Back to the drawing board! Kind of annoying

Gonksmum · 28/08/2026 16:31

2nd MJ jab today and have lost 2 lbs, which I'm pleased with as I've probably only reduced calories by 200 or so per day.
I haven't had many side effects apart from a couple of hrs of nausea most afternoons, which Pepto helped with. I also found a couple of dextrose tablets useful in the afternoons - haven't taken those since A levels in 1986! Yesterday, not so good as felt very flat, lack of concentration and, most notably, a raging hunger! I assume the dose had worn off by then.
Hope my 2nd week goes smoothly. Onwards and upwards for all the August gang!

cutefluffyunicorn · 28/08/2026 16:50

So, update from me. I managed 4 weeks of 2.5mg. first week noted suppression, but not so much in next 3 weeks and no weight loss for last 2 weeks. No side effects at all.Decided to go up to 5mg for second pen. Did first dose Monday evening. Struggled to eat anything all day Tuesday, managed a protein shake eventually Tuesday night I was SO ill.spent the night vomiting. Felt absolutely awful all day Wednesday and was really hard to force myself to eat. ( Was lucky I was off work Tuesday and Weds!)Have gradually felt better since then, but it was a really awful 24-48 hours. Still eating quite little, but trying to increase. Can not have another experience like that next week so going to click counting and do 3.5 or 3.75 mg. Hoping that provides a better balance between no effect at all, and feeling totally horrendous!
