Hello everyone, I'm due to start on MJ in the next few days, and I'm feeling nervous!

I've been above size 20 since I was about 14/15 years old. The highest weight I've ever logged was 134kg, about 14 years ago. I'm currently 117kg. I also have issues with my heart caused by Cushing's, type 2 diabetes and PMOS.

In the past few years, I'm yo-yo'd between 125kg and 110kg three times. I know how to lose weight and can do it... but as soon as work gets busy or stressful, I fail and give up. I also have an issue with binge and secret eating.

I went for my annual diabetic review yesterday and the nurse basically used the whole time telling me about going on MJ, because my BMI is over 40 (well, as of yesterday's weigh in, I'm 39. something) and because of my other health conditions. I didn't have to fight for it, or request it.. they're just giving it to me.

Now I'm doing as much reading/ video watching as I can to clue myself up.

On my on-track days, I eat:

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs with some flavouring- chilli flakes or marmite or 15g cheddar.

Lunch: Chicken thigh fillet in some kind of seasoning mix, salad made of lettuce, pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, sugarsnaps, carrot. Sometimes 3 cream crackers and a laughing cow triangle as well.

Dinner: Varies- roast chicken dinner/ 5% fat mince spaghetti bolognese with wholewheat pasta/ beef burger without the bun with cheese, salad on half the plate, usually without chips, noodles with chicken and stirfry veg.

Snacks: Usually a portion of berries/ a nectarine/ cherries/ 25g peanuts at 4pm.

How does that sound?

I have a treadmill and run/walk at 6.5/6km/hr pace for 30 mins three times a week. The nurse said I should do some weights for my arms too.

Any recommendations for which day I should inject?

So, update from me. I managed 4 weeks of 2.5mg. first week noted suppression, but not so much in next 3 weeks and no weight loss for last 2 weeks. No side effects at all.Decided to go up to 5mg for second pen. Did first dose Monday evening. Struggled to eat anything all day Tuesday, managed a protein shake eventually Tuesday night I was SO ill.spent the night vomiting. Felt absolutely awful all day Wednesday and was really hard to force myself to eat. ( Was lucky I was off work Tuesday and Weds!)Have gradually felt better since then, but it was a really awful 24-48 hours. Still eating quite little, but trying to increase. Can not have another experience like that next week so going to click counting and do 3.5 or 3.75 mg. Hoping that provides a better balance between no effect at all, and feeling totally horrendous!

Gosh, that sounds awful. I've had no side effects from the starter 0.25 dose. I've been on it 5 weeks now. But, as my appetite is back, in 3 weeks time I'm moving to 0.5.

I'm a bit scared now 😳

meowmeowcatcat · 28/08/2026 17:49

I am on week 2 of Wegovy, Monday is my injection day. 0.25

I have lost weight in week 1 and I had a cheeky weigh last night and have continued to loose.

However, I feel more hungry and quite food focussed than last week. It is odd.

Starting / 17 Aug - 74.6kg
Recent / 24 Aug - 73.2kg
Goal - 54kg

You may be fine, I think lots of people are. Must admit it took me a bit surprise as had really no side effects from 2.5 I'd expected maybe a bit more Go discomfort/nausea etc, but not being up till 4 am vomiting then unable to eat or function for another 24 hours!

Foolish1984 · 28/08/2026 19:46

I’m on week 3 of 2.5mg. No side effects whatsoever (yet…) and although I had good suppression within 24 hrs of first dose which lasted a week, it’s like my body had ‘got used to it’ so my appetite went back to normal for 2 weeks. However, now it’s built up in my system a bit, I’m feeling suppression again. The last of my 2.5mg doses will be on Tuesday, then I intend to go up to 5mg. Bracing myself for side effects to really show up

PuzzledObserver · 28/08/2026 20:22

@cutefluffyunicorn ooh, that does sound bad. Definitely makes me think I will do something between 2.5 and 5 rather than go straight there.

cutefluffyunicorn · 28/08/2026 20:45

Yes, it was grim. I was a bit naive and thought it would be fine as I'd been totally fine on 2.5mg. Also I not really had much/any suppression or reduced food noise after the first week on 2.5. Still, lesson learned! Def not doing 5 next week.

PuzzledObserver · 28/08/2026 21:21

I’ve just ordered 100 needles and 100 alcohol swabs from Chemist4U for just over a tenner, including delivery. That’s enough to split dose for 2 years if I continue to use a supplier which provides needles.

I hope not to be on it for 2 years. But if I end up wasting some, it’s not going to break the bank, unlike the MJ itself.

Cheesecake53 · 28/08/2026 21:47

@PuzzledObserver I did the same! I got pen needles and 8mm syringes for the few pens with golden doses that find their way to me.

Mamatriesmounjaro · 28/08/2026 22:01

How do you know if a pen has a golden dose in it?

Those side effects sound awful @cutefluffyunicorn I'm absolutely terrified of vomiting so really feel for you

Cheesecake53 · 28/08/2026 22:14

Pens that have a use by date up to and including April 2027 as far as I know.

PuzzledObserver · 29/08/2026 08:05

Jab 3 just done.

I saw 12-xxx on the scale this morning for the first time in more than 30 years! I don’t think I believe it, it’s not real. I’ve basically spent the last nearly 2 years getting under 14 stone, down close to 13, then back up a bit, then a bit more, then back down close to 13….. Having started 2024 at 18-10, to be maintaining even within a 1 stone range so much lower was and is absolutely massive, I know. But it was frustrating as hell!

I’ve been thinking I can’t see any difference in the mirror yet and not convinced that my clothes feel any looser either, so I measured my waist…. 3cm off! And for the first time in living memory, my waist is half my height.

RemakeRemodel · 29/08/2026 09:33

Just had a little whoosh in the last few days, it seems. I'm down 3kg since I started 2.5 weeks ago. Probably some post-period bounce in there but not too shabby.

Mamatriesmounjaro · 29/08/2026 09:47

Amazing @PuzzledObserver that is really fantastic and that you've been maintaining such a loss over a long period of time is impressive. I've lost the same 4/5 stone at least three times in my life!!

Well done @RemakeRemodel that's fab progress for 2.5 weeks!

PuzzledObserver · 29/08/2026 10:24

Thank you, @Mamatriesmounjaro . Yes I’ve lost a lot (4 stone or more) probably half a dozen times, and of course lesser amounts more times than I can count.

What’s made the difference this time is truly accepting I needed a complete and permanent change in my eating behaviour, and using everything I could find which seemed like it might help. Oh, and being pig-headed and never giving up.

DeedlessIndeed · 29/08/2026 10:41

Jab 4 of the 2.5 has nearly finished me off. No real symptoms before now, and good weight loss.

But feel like I have been hit by a truck in terms of nausea and dizziness. Can't stomach eating anything. Couldn't sleep last night for it. Am going to take it slow today and hopefully things will calm down.

Didn't expect this at all. Very relieved I haven't gone up for next month.

VanillaSunsetVibes · 29/08/2026 11:12

4 pounds down in my first week 😁 chuffed with that! I would love to lose another 8 pounds by the end of september thinking that may be a little ambitious lol.

Has anyone else noted any change to their cycle as it seems it has made me come on again 🙄

Well done to everyone on their weight loss 😀

Belladog1 · 29/08/2026 11:41

My official weigh in is Monday, but after 5 days of not sticking to my healthy eating regime I just popped myself on the scales. 2Ib up. Hopefully i can lose that over the long weekend 🙏

I've just taken my 6th jab of 0.25. Hopefully it'll suppress my appetite

Housemum · 29/08/2026 12:59

Don’t know how much is mind over matter - day 1 after first 2.5 MJ. Daughter bought herself a Subway footlong (had voucher making it same price as 6”) and left some. Offered it to me, I had two bites and done. Previously I’d have wolfed it down, guess it’s a mix of the MJ and the mindset (I’m determined not to mess this up, want to get back down to 11 stone).

BraOffPjsOn · 29/08/2026 19:05

Third 2.5mg jab yesterday and I was fine - this afternoon I felt really sick and have had a migraine. Could be something else but only change really is another jab.
I haven’t had any side effects yet so I hope this isn’t going to be a regular thing, although it is why I’ve ended up jabbing before the weekend.

Not sure if it will do anything to the length of cycles as I basically started (and was due) a few days after the first jab. I do think it made my period lighter and less painful than it has been. Last few years after having my daughter and approaching 40 I’ve found it really really painful and it’s impacted day to day life some cycles. Literally none of that this time so that would be lovely if it’s an unexpected side effect!

chocolatecoveredpretzels · 30/08/2026 11:37

Hi everyone, how are you all doing?

I’ve just taken my fourth injection on my first 2.5 pen. @DeedlessIndeed how are you feeling today? Your post made me nervous!

For those talking about a golden dose, how are you using it? I don’t really know what I’m looking for, but this is what my pen looks like after 4x 2.5 injections- it looks like there’s quite a bit of fluid left.

Do people use it as an extra week of medication? I can see why that makes sense if you’re paying for it. Or do you use it as a ‘top up’ to take more than your normal dose?

I don’t think I’ll be using it, but was curious as to what others do.

I took it as an extra week. I just forced it to turn and it seems to be ok. Appetite suppression is good.

PuzzledObserver · 30/08/2026 12:56

There’s a thread here about how to tell if you have the golden dose or not (newer pens don’t have it) https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5571962-does-this-pen-contain-the-golden-dose?reply=154454607&utm_campaign=reply&utm_medium=share

The good people there have said I have one in my first pen, so I have every intention of using it as an extra week. Gonna try the brute force method rather than getting syringes, especially since golden doses are going to appear. Well, that plus the fact that I just took delivery of swabs and needles to do sub-dosing with, had to pay delivery, and would need another order to get syringes!

I have decided that my 2nd pen is going to be 5mg, but I won’t be using the full dose - now that I’ve equipped myself with the needles and swabs and can make a pen last longer. If appetite suppression is still good I’ll continue with 2.5. If it’s not quite enough I’ll try an intermediate dose, 3 or 3.5. Suck it and see, basically.

Does this pen contain the ‘golden dose’? | Mumsnet

Brand new, unused 15mg pen, just arrived from the provider, but I can’t tell if it contains the 5th dose. Wish I’d taken a photo of an old pen to comp...

Cheesecake53 · 30/08/2026 12:57

@chocolatecoveredpretzels I took it out with a syringe without problems after watching youtube videos showing how to do it.

chocolatecoveredpretzels · 30/08/2026 13:25

Thanks @Cheesecake53 @PuzzledObserver and @purplepie1

Is it purely a money saving thing? Or is there some other benefit?
