Hello everyone, I'm due to start on MJ in the next few days, and I'm feeling nervous!

I've been above size 20 since I was about 14/15 years old. The highest weight I've ever logged was 134kg, about 14 years ago. I'm currently 117kg. I also have issues with my heart caused by Cushing's, type 2 diabetes and PMOS.

In the past few years, I'm yo-yo'd between 125kg and 110kg three times. I know how to lose weight and can do it... but as soon as work gets busy or stressful, I fail and give up. I also have an issue with binge and secret eating.

I went for my annual diabetic review yesterday and the nurse basically used the whole time telling me about going on MJ, because my BMI is over 40 (well, as of yesterday's weigh in, I'm 39. something) and because of my other health conditions. I didn't have to fight for it, or request it.. they're just giving it to me.

Now I'm doing as much reading/ video watching as I can to clue myself up.

On my on-track days, I eat:

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs with some flavouring- chilli flakes or marmite or 15g cheddar.

Lunch: Chicken thigh fillet in some kind of seasoning mix, salad made of lettuce, pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, sugarsnaps, carrot. Sometimes 3 cream crackers and a laughing cow triangle as well.

Dinner: Varies- roast chicken dinner/ 5% fat mince spaghetti bolognese with wholewheat pasta/ beef burger without the bun with cheese, salad on half the plate, usually without chips, noodles with chicken and stirfry veg.

Snacks: Usually a portion of berries/ a nectarine/ cherries/ 25g peanuts at 4pm.

How does that sound?

I have a treadmill and run/walk at 6.5/6km/hr pace for 30 mins three times a week. The nurse said I should do some weights for my arms too.

Any recommendations for which day I should inject?

Hi all - I thought I would assist re injecting, while this week was first time injecting myself I have many years experience as a T1D mum (dx 6 now 23 and on a pump)

  • rotating: one side belly button each week fine - when DD on injections inner thighs rotating up to 10 times a day
  • counting to 10 and droplet remaining- it is doubtful overflow or removed too quickly and given amounts and dilution will I assume minimal effect- with insulin easier to gauge as if not correct BG would increase
as for me suppression kicked in and for some reason not drawn to carbs and sweet stuff at all - but only 3 days in - love reading all your posts
PuzzledObserver · 25/08/2026 19:07

@chocolatecoveredpretzels a little bit of liquid oozing out of the injection site is not a problem. Pretty sure it says that on the instruction leaflet.

I am not feeling myself today, I am getting cold. I am also tired, but not more tired if I was just eating in calorie deficit consistently for 14 days. I managed to do my short strength exercises this morning and my walk, ideally would like to hit the 10 000 steps (2.5k more). Touch of constipation too.

I don't feel like eating at all, I had some melon to take some nurofen for my throat but I do get hungry later during the day and I will focus on protein when I do.

I am glad I have flexibly in work, I am working from home and will have snooze at lunch time.

How are you feeling? Hope you are ok.
Definitely feeling similar. Hope the nap helped. I'm loving the food noise gone but the serious lack of energy is a surprise, especially as I will be on this for a while. Sore throat and dry eyes today too. Early night!

@PuzzledObserver thank you so much, that was exactly what I needed to hear. I’m feeling a bit frustrated as the scales are moving up and down the same kilogram without bridging the next number down. I’ve only felt suppression once, just after jab 2 of 2.5 on MJ. Apart from that, I’m hungry at meal times, eating roughly 1700-1900 calories per day, tend to have bone broth mid morning and some fruit mid afternoon. I’ve had some extra wind and a tiny bit of constipation but day 2 or 3 after injecting, I seem to get diarrhoea, so that makes me worried about returning to work after the summer holidays.

However, yesterday I did a walk with my family on a route I remember doing alone a few years back. I remember finding it really difficult then, and it felt like an easy, fun walk yesterday. I’m also feeling so much softer in my stomach instead of the previous quite firm, hard fat. I’m doing resistance and weight training, which is brand new.

I had a question about injecting, though. I push the end in slowly and then count to ten before pulling the needle out. When I did it this time, there was a tiny drop of the fluid that sat at the injection point. Smaller than half a grain of rice. Is that normal or should I wait longer before pulling the pen away?

@chocolatecoveredpretzels i am not feeling a lot of suppression either and can comfortably eat 1800 calories ( which is below my TDEE). It may be I will need to try a higher dose sooner than I wanted to. I am not in a hurry so probably will do 2 pens at 2.5 before increasing.

MiaN · 26/08/2026 04:39

W1 - (-2.5kg)
W2 - (-2.4kg)

Of course, I am very happy with the result but I am also ready for slowdown. Suppression has been strong from day one and remains strong for the duration. I know it's not going to last, I will be staying on this dose at lest for another month due to travelling.

So far, I had one day of constipation, low energy and very high appetite suppression so I need to keep on top of it and avoid it. The rest - well if I eat in consistent calorie deficit for two week I will be just as, if not more tired so that's to be expected. No eggy burbs, I have been eating no UPFs. NSV - my skin is showing it - I noticed yesterday how well it looks.

I made an attempt to use Ozempic 2024 and it didn't go as well for me - little suppression, a lot of side effects. I had so much hesitation trying Monjaro but it is working much better.

MiaN · 26/08/2026 05:35

Last week I had little hungrier morning on Wednesday before the jab (after lunch). I am actually looking for to it

PuzzledObserver · 26/08/2026 07:00

Morning, folks.

I did a 48 hour fast from Sunday evening to Tuesday evening, then was well ready to eat at the end. Ate a normal sized meal and was totally satisfied. My whole idea for going onto MJ was to get back my ability to do therapeutic levels of fasting for the time it will take me to reach my health and weight goals, so this was a good first step.

Last Wednesday I noted the appetite suppression had waned, I wonder if it will be the same today, given that there is more in my system now than this time last week? We shall see.

Apart from those few hours of tiredness on Saturday, still no side effects to speak of.

TinDogTavern · 26/08/2026 07:53

I’m the same re carbs @Swimthatloch- I’m a carb fiend and I have no desire for them whatsoever.

xxx200 · 26/08/2026 08:27

Morning all, been feeling quite tired since I took my injection on Friday night but think that’s to be expected with a toddler and full time job anyway 😂. I done a sneaky weigh this morning and I’ve lost 1.8kg so I am happy with the progress and will try not to weigh again until Friday morning to see a full week progress.

Biosblbay · 26/08/2026 08:35

I didn’t realise that the MJ jab had enough for 5 doses, I thought it was for 4 weeks so I’m happy with that! Done my 4th jab yesterday evening. Luckily my side effects have been very mild. Just out of curiosity, I am on 2.5, when you twist the pen to the 1 when you jab, if there is a little bit more left in the pen, to avoid wastage can you go beyond the 1 mark? X

Biosblbay · 26/08/2026 08:37

@xxx200 full time working from home Mum of two under 3 here! That tiredness does wear off, it may come back each time you jab but the more your body gets used to the MJ, the easier it is! Just remember although it’s making you tired now, think about how much energy you will have when you have lost the weight and then you can do much more with your children in the long run ☺️ good luck! X

xxx200 · 26/08/2026 08:40

Thank you @Biosblbay that is really encouraging x

MiaN · 26/08/2026 09:01

This time last week I was hungier. No interest in food today so it is building up, jab in 4 hours so last hours of my week. However I had some chicken slices and cucumber to keep the protein and I need some energy too.

Belladog1 · 26/08/2026 09:37

I decided to stick with the lower dose for a second month, and I'm hungry again. I'm easily satisfied, but I'm ravenous for my lunch and dinners. Not snacking too much though.

Definitely going up to 0.5 next month though!

MiaN · 26/08/2026 15:19

when did you start feeling the effect of 0.25is starting to go down?

Quink · 26/08/2026 16:07

i did jab 3 on Monday (0.25) and haven’t really had much in the way of side effects until today when I felt really nauseous all morning. Wore off by lunchtime, even before I ate anything, so hoping it’ll be ok from here. Was in 2 minds about whether to raise to 0.5 but think I will as side effects have been so mild. Also not much suppression though do get full quite quickly. I’d lost 7lbs at weigh-in on Monday so will see how it’s looking on Friday before ordering. Might have to think again if I’m still losing, but I don’t feel it tbh.

My understanding is that there used to be a 5th dose in every pen, known as the golden dose, but they have stopped doing it. But it is possible to dispense less than a full dose by counting clicks, and therefore get more (smaller) doses out of the pen.

For example, a 5mg pen is set up to give you 4 doses of 5mg, but could equally well give you 5 doses of 4mg. To do that, you would do 48 clicks instead of the intended 60.

You will obviously need extra needles, though, if your supplier normally supplies them.

PuzzledObserver · 26/08/2026 19:11

Oh, and the other thing is the manufacturer advises that the pen should be discarded 30 days after opening. If you take 5 doses from the pen, you are still within that, because you are taking doses on days 0, 7, 14, 21 and 28. But if you take a 6th dose that would be day 35.

There are other threads on the forum about exactly that. Some people are choosing to take 6 or more doses. At their own risk, obviously.

ReneBallard · 26/08/2026 19:19

GP has kept me on 2.5 for this month (month 2) due to going on holiday end of week and fact I am losing. Happy with that as he also gave me a prescription for 5 to get end of September and then he will see me end October.

MiaN · 27/08/2026 05:49

I was very constipated last few days and I am going to give my multivitamin a pause. It has good bit of Iron and while I need Iron - it does add to the constipation. I will resume again at some point next week. The appetite suppression is strong, I hope i can stay on this dose for some time. I can manage with my healthy eating plans even if it eases little bit - I hope as currently between the constipation and the reduced appetite I make myself eat for energy.

PuzzledObserver · 27/08/2026 07:08

@ReneBallard and @MiaN good updates from you both, managing side effects and adapting to the changes week by week.

I am planning a fast tomorrow until tea time and contemplating 2x48 hours next week, which is one of the good standard fasting protocols for weight loss. I follow The Fasting Method, and their most recent podcast talked about the benefits of fasting for people on GLP-1’s because of the way fasting raises human growth hormone, so it protects against the muscle loss which can be a concern. Always assuming you consume adequate protein and do resistance training, of course.

MiaN · 26/08/2026 15:19

when did you start feeling the effect of 0.25is starting to go down?

After 5 weeks. The suppression was pretty instant from day one with me, but this week I've been hungry. I noticed it the day after my 5th jab, I was peckish and that feeling hasn't gone.

TinDogTavern · 27/08/2026 09:46

Okay so weigh in this morning after week 1 month 1 on 2.5mg and I’m 5lb down. I do know that this is probably just water/adjustment and I can probably expect to fluctuate/plateau over the next couple of weeks but it’s a heartening start anyway.

Appetite and cravings very noticeably reduced. Next to no side effects apart from the dodgy stomach.

I will be away for my 5th & 6 jab and I am going to stay same dose I think. Even if I am hungrier. I worry going up while away and getting bad side effects. I too had great suppression immediately

Joining the thread late, I am on jab 3 of 2.5.

I have lost just over a stone and still get the full appetite suppression effects. Relieved to see many people are taking the 2.5 for a second month as I was questioning my decision.

I know it will slow down, but I am almost at 25% of my goal weight and I am concerned the loss could be muscle mass. I am eating lean meat and high fibre veg, twice a day. Breakfast always makes me more hungry so I naturally skip that.

No side effects apart from some mild nausea.

I am walking about 10K steps a day and doing some mild exercise. But thinking I should really start some kind of strength training to avoid the skinny fat situation.
