Frankly I too don't understand the change, I have been just watching the new threads as you kindly grow them. This is my gang and I don't mind whether others join but I do fume if it's someone trying to derail us.

I am 3lbs off a 100lb loss. And trying not to judge myself against others albeit unsuccessfully. Saw some long term friends after about a year last week and they said I had lost weight but my reply was "it literally is the least interesting thing about me since we last met up" and they respected that.

Love to all who are struggling with far bigger loads than weight (own physical or mental health, family health, financial health).

I use that line ..it's a great one to trot out ..and I feel very strongly, like this is literally the only place I come to discuss my weight.. because I found when I had any discussion with anyone, even answering questions..it leads to me being given advice ,or asked what clothes size I am ,or worse how much I now weigh .I couldn't imagine being so rude ..but loosing weight seems to make me fair game

PearlsTeapot · 20/10/2026 16:53

I'm not trying to come across as rude but did you really say that? People are doing a nice thing commenting positively on weight and frankly for me it's one of the most interesting parts of my whole life, let alone the last year! My whole life has changed, I love to talk about it.

Springflowers2 · 20/10/2026 16:56

@PearlsTeapot ..it never ends well ..there's always a comment asking for more information than I want to give ..there's always a positive comment followed by a question I find intrusive...but I admit I'm very sensitive, and embarrassed about how much I've lost

Springflowers2 · 20/10/2026 16:59

I'm now at the point ,I've lost more weight than a lot of women actually weigh and I'm painfully aware of that ,and any weight conversion is me just desperately hoping they don't say ,oh gosh you've lost more than I weigh ..
I just want my weight to not be mentioned at all if I'm honest

Fffreeeeezing · 20/10/2026 17:09

I very rarely get asked any questions. Once in a blue moon someone will make a comment but that's usually where it ends.

Last week someone asked me outright how much I've lost and added "it must be at least 6 stone now" when I replied with it's just over 11st she nearly keeled over with surprise and just said you were never 'that' big which just made me laugh at people's perceptions and the thought that she might think I was doing my maths wrong 🤣

I think sometimes we might forget that it could potentially be one of the most interesting thing about us currently, it's really quite rare to lose this amount of weight, most people won't know anyone else who has lost that much weight, if it wasn't me, I'd have loads of questions!

I think this is fair. Some time ago I delved into the statistics of exactly how rare I was to have got to a BMI over 48. The estimate which came back was maybe 1 in 500.

Then what proportion of those who are morbidly obese succeed in reaching a healthy BMI (not that I’ve got there yet) - and that was something like 1 in over 600.

And for those who stay there - rarer than hen’s teeth.

The last two numbers are going to change significantly with WLI, I would think. But, as we know, that doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed, nor is it easy.

I think it’s a great line and I’m going to bank it for the future. I am more than just my weight and tbh if people only see me for that I don’t really want to speak to them. You may see it as a nice thing someone commenting positively on weight but I find it invasive and intrusive and quite frankly embarrassing. The last 2 years have been immense for me, shit loads has happened, anyone opening a chat bout my weight will never find out because I’m not interested already when that happens. Now don’t get me wrong I don’t actually mind talking about it, I spoke to my neighbour a while back for the first time in ages (paths don’t cross often) and we spoke for 40 minutes before me weight was part of the conversation and it was me who brought it in. I have so much respect for her because she just spoke to me.

EnterSandfan · 20/10/2026 18:41

Difficult one isn't it. I want people to notice I've lost weight because it confirms I really have lost enough to be noticeable, but I don't want questions about it 😆. I also don't want people to always think of me as big and remember me obese, although I can't control other people's minds. I do worry about friends pigeonholing me as far no matter how long I keep the weight off for. It's like I think people who knew me bigger will never take me seriously if they see me doing sport etc etc .

I don't know what's going on with me, I got down to 183lbs a few weeks ago but shot up to 190 in about a week. Thought it was fluid retention etc but it still hasn't dropped back down. Ran out of MJ during that time and am attempting things alone. Buuuut diet has been poor, haven't counted cals and have had far too much sugar, and sleep has been terrible too (loads of v stressful stuff going on in life) but I've maintained which I'm taking as a positive. Taken up a lot more exercise just recently and am going to start tracking cals and hoping I'll start dropping again. If not it's back to mj!

Springflowers2 · 20/10/2026 18:47

I think for me ,I'm absolutely terrified I will put the whole lot back on
Because 10 years ago I did exactly that ,I got lower ( a bit ) than I am now ,but I couldn't sustain it ,and then everything went wrong at home with two of my DC ,and I just felt like someone turned the lights off ..and I just couldn't keep it off ,and I had to face all the people who had congratulated me on my weight loss as I just went bigger and bigger..I was out of control, plus I put an extra two stone on taking me to 27 stone..if that happens again I will be 29 stone .
The fear of going back to that place .is very very real .

SilenceInside · 20/10/2026 20:57

@Springflowers2 I understand the terror but the difference between then and now is that there are the various GLP1s available to support us in maintaining the loss, or to lose a bit if we regain. It doesn't ever have to be a several stone gain, as long as we are able to access the medication. That's the only hitch, is the long term affordability given that we're (nearly) all privately funding it. In the long term (5 to 10 years) tirzepatide and semaglutide will get cheaper, once generics are available. As new GLP1s come out, the older ones may get cheaper too.

The NHS rollout will also, hopefully, eventually get to the point where GLP1s are offered at a BMI of 30 with one or no qualifying medical conditions.

Castlebark · 20/10/2026 23:31

Can I please ask you lovely people a question, especially those who’ve been on WLI for a while?

I’m 35 weeks in and have so far managed to get my BMI from over 45 to 34.5. I've been using monj.co.uk to find the cheapest provider each time, and at this stage I’ve used 7 different providers.

Starting to look ahead, I am wondering about if/when I reach a healthy BMI, which providers offer the cheapest maintenance option?

I’m concerned I may have already used all of the cheaper providers that offer Introductory rates, and I will be left with only more expensive options longer term.

One provider I haven't used yet is Medicine Market Place. They aren't listed as a maintenance provider on monj.co.uk, but they have a maintenance section on their website. Does that mean you need to be already using them before your BMI drops below 30, then continue reorder within 35 days for the best value?

I’d love to hear from anyone with any insight or experience using maintenance providers. 😊

SilenceInside · 21/10/2026 00:20

@Castlebark I switched to MMP recently as they are nearly always the cheapest without needing any discounts. My BMI was 25 when I switched and I had no issue with that at all. You do need to agree to reorder within 35 days to keep the low prices, but I’m ok with that for now.

I don’t know what their lowest BMI for ordering is but I don’t want to go below 23 ish really, so hopefully that will be ok.

Fingers crossed,I do hope you are right ,and from an NHS point of view,it must save money in the long run . every day there seems to be another story about how glp1 is helping some new condition not related to weight loss so a win win

TragicMuse · 21/10/2026 07:45

I need to see if I can get accepted by mmp…I fear I’ve missed the opportunity to switch since I’m now lower than 25 BMI.

zoinks!!

Yeah, I get get fed up with the comments and desire to know the details. I have got quite good at.....saying nothing unless the person starts with 'do you mind?' or something similar. I don't mind, but I mind about how personal some people get.

I prefer the male approach.....my classroom neighbour looked me up and down at the 5 stone lost point and said 'have you lost weight?'. Still makes me chuckle.

Castlebark · 21/10/2026 22:26

@SilenceInside thanks for the info. I might hold off ordering from MMP for now, and keep using the next cheapest provider. I've still got a fair bit of weight to lose, and enjoy the flexibility/value of stretching pens, before committing to a more stringent reordering cycle.

We’re going to need a new thread imminently…

I’m happy to do unless anyone else wants to?
