So what it suggests is a week or so at maintenance calories of 1500-1700 to kid the body into thinking the famine is over!

Has anyone done that? Did it work?

Yes, I did it, and yes, it worked.

I'm really interested in this. I just asked Gemini and got a response that after 6 months of calorie deficit you should take 3 weeks to build calories back up, have some time on TDEE then drop again for a new season of weight loss.
I must admit I feel sceptical but am interested to know if any of you long timers did this.

Springflowers2 · 06/10/2026 08:18

Morning guys
@PearlsTeapot your doing so well, and it's great your getting the help you need
@TragicMuse in the same boat ,and I got similar advice of chatgtp to .
I got the suggestion to increase my calories by 100 every day for a week ,with good quality seeds and oils and fats ..avocado..and then do the same the following week another 100 calories a day ..untill I get to ... actually I can't remember the rest of the advice as to how that was going to get my weight loss moving again...it says my body thinks it's in a famine so it's holding on to weight, and by eating more it will think the famine is over ..that's it ..that was my advice
And I was going to do that ..but I literally can't move so ,no steps ,no swimming.no exercise at all ..I actually can't believe I've managed to stay under 15 stone under current conditions...I think I said about the 11 days on Prozac having me eat a lot of chocolate..so I'm finally over that and I'm back to it not bothering me .. thank goodness.
Next pen is 15 mg ..and there I'm staying untill the scales say 12.10 ..that would give me another 2 stone to loose from today ..which is wonderful.
I just feel so sick with all these medications I'm on ..so I'm living of wholemeal toast and peanut butter

Springflowers2 · 06/10/2026 08:21

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne ..I did go to order your spray ..but doctor said I need to use heat on it ..
You've done really well ..same as @PearlsTeapot ..both of you are total inspirations on this thread ,not giving up with weight loss despite what life throws at you both xx

SilenceInside · 06/10/2026 08:28

@Reginaphalangeeeee I had no issues with Swift Doctor, I just moved to MMP recently because of the price. Swift Doctor let me take almost 8 weeks between orders without any questioning of it.

Springflowers2 · 06/10/2026 08:29

I've ordered this corset thing for my hips ..It took me a while to work out the pain is in my hip ,and my back is locking to protect the hip ..I'm so bloody slow at putting two and two together..I've been sleeping with a towel under my hips my entire life because it feels like my spine will collapse otherwise, and my hip often feels like it comes out of its joint when I'm walking or swimming...
My daughter has hyper mobility..and she saw me sat down in an odd position, and just went ..thanks for giving me hyper mobility..she only got diagnosed recently as an adult..so I don't know much about it ..
But other medication I'm on ..would fit with hyper mobility causing it ..plus I'm diagnosed with autism and ADHD and it's all linked .
So I've bought a back support with like bones in ..I hope that will help
I spoke to my doctor and she agreed it does sound like that ,so when I'm in a bit less pain I will go see the physiotherapist..I can't go at the moment as it's to painful

tescovaluebread · 06/10/2026 10:33

I've been stagnant now for almost 3 months.

To ask about this because a lot of you are saying about eating over your calories for a few days/weeks. Not saying this doesn't work, because it clearly has for many of you, but how?! Surely it's black and white if you eat less, the body burns the fat stores - that's what intermittent fasting teaches. It feels very counter-intiutive and goes against everything I have ever learned about weightloss? Which if I'm honest, I'm absolutely afraid to do.

Secondly, for those people who have done this, how exactly have you shaken things up? Have you eaten WAY over the calories? Or eaten maintenance calories, still healthy? Or something else? Have you gained weight after eating like this and then lost that weight and then some?

I'm just very cautious as I struggle to get the last 3kg off, that the scales will go the wrong way and I'll be stuck at a higher weight, in the name of 'coming out of a famine'. 😲

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 06/10/2026 12:14

So it turns out my apparently huge weight loss yesterday was indeed not real! I think there is an issue with the floor where they were, I've moved them now and today's weight was a lot more realistic. Thankfully still under BMI 30 though so I didn't have the disappointment of going back over!

I asked my ChatGPT about whether I should do this and it disappointingly said no, it said this which is interesting and sounds sensible

"There is some merit to a maintenance-calorie break, but not really for the reason you’re hoping. 😏
A few weeks at TDEE won’t reset your metabolism or magically make your body start burning fat faster when you return to a deficit. That’s one of those weight-loss-forum theories that sounds wonderfully plausible but isn’t really how energy balance works.
However, a 1–2 week maintenance break can be useful if you’re getting diet fatigue, hunger is increasing, training performance is suffering, or adherence is getting harder. It can give you a psychological and physical breather before returning to a deficit.
In your particular case, though…
I’m not convinced you need one yet."

Dammit, my TDEE is around 2400cals, was getting giddy about how I was going to eat an additional 800cals a day 🤣

MoneyJo · 06/10/2026 13:23

Hah thanks for that @Fffreeeeezing

I am quite happy on my current calories so no diet fatigue, and don't feel like eating more really. I'm just not seeing much change on the scales. Down a couple of pounds, back up one, down another, back up.

I've still got 3 st 12 to lose to get to my target weight so just want to find something to push me forward. It doesn't look like it's eating more calories that would do it!

Castlebark · 06/10/2026 13:41

Week 33 weigh in was last Friday, and, after a small gain the previous week, I'm back to losing, but still very slow.

SW 122.7 kg (19 st 4 lb)
CW 95.2 kg (15 st 0 lb)

Congratulations @RenegadeKeeblerElf, glad to hear the BMI win stuck.

I also had a larger drop showing on the scales yesterday. Sadly that was only due to dehydration after the dreaded sulphur burps this weekend, leading to a couple of nights of d&v. Completely my own fault as I noticed a hint of sulphur on Friday. But I had a lovely social evening with friends where I had (an albeit a small portion of) takeaway for dinner, along with a couple of glasses of wine. Big mistake!

I also noticed when I was still feeling rotten on Sunday that I went for the dirtiest food options in the house, knowing I wouldn't be able to eat much. I'm taking from that that I'm still 100% reliant on the jabs for keeping me on track.

At what point did anyone find that the new, healthy habits started taking over from your previous eating habits?

Fffreeeeezing · 06/10/2026 13:45

@MoneyJoI've got around the same left as well so If I thought it would help, I'd definitely be trying it!
I keep debating reducing my calories lower (I've kept my at 1600 since I started 18 months ago) but my PT would kick my arse as she already thinks 1600 is on the low side for me 🤣

Missingducks · 07/10/2026 07:12

I am only 6.5 stones down but slowly going further and whilst I am frustrated that I haven't woken up at 12 stones (goal weight from 24.5) I am making changes for ever. So if I want ice cream, pizza, champagne I have it. I did find after a tube of pringles disappeared on a long car journey it reset my mindset and I was able to resist again!

Springflowers2 · 07/10/2026 18:05

Anyone following when that reta is going to be available..I keep seeing posts on social media saying how much people have lost on it .
I've checked on chat gtp a few times ..and it still says monjroro 15 mg is the strongest weight loss aid legally available in UK at moment.

So I've ordered 15 mg today , hopefully arriving tomorrow
I do hope going back to 15 helps me

Springflowers2 · 07/10/2026 18:08

My portion sizes have definitely gone up lately
I'm really fighting against it at the moment
Plus no movement with my back
I've got to nip this stall in the bud and get this next two stone lost asap

SilenceInside · 07/10/2026 18:23

@Springflowers2 Retatrutide isn't likely to be available until late 2027 or 2028 as far as I can see at the moment. It's still in Phase 3 clinical trials which will run through the rest of 2026 and into 2027. Then Lilly need to submit it to the MHRA in the UK, but they usually submit it to the FDA in the US first, so probably it might be approved sometime in later 2027 and then it will take a while for the pharmacies to get access to it and distribute it. Assuming it passes the phase 3 clinical trials.

Anyone saying they are taking "reta" in the UK at the moment is using black market drugs from criminal suppliers, originating from Chinese factories with no regulation. Incredibly risky and they're also funding criminal organisations.

So, 15mg Mounjaro is the "strongest" GLP1 medication you can legally get at the moment. I hope it works for you soon, and that your back improves too so you can get back to moving more.

Springflowers2 · 07/10/2026 18:59

@SilenceInside ..so technically all these people saying they are taking it ..might actually not be taking it ...or could they be part of the trial..is it currently on trial in the UK .

SilenceInside · 07/10/2026 19:08

I suppose there's a very small chance that they're involved in the phase 3 clinical trials, but I would expect them to say so rather than talk about using "reta". People who are posting about using it on social media are almost certainly using black market illegal medication.

Hello, all you lovely lot,

I have been popping in and catching up a bit with what’s going on, especially when I’ve needed some good news, but I think I’m going to be out of this thread for a very long time.

If anyone can be bothered to join the dots, saying this could be outing and I’d rather not out myself, but I’m having a really tough time at the moment.

Multiple myeloma is better than secondary bone cancer with an unknown primary, but it’s still pretty shit and I found out a week or so ago that I have an aggressive form. I start the mainstream treatment tomorrow but I’m already drugged up to my eyeballs and I’ve gone from looking and feeling fit and well too sleeping in a recliner chair downstairs and struggling to transfer. Walking a few steps to get to the car is a major achievement and I’m catheterised because it’s too difficult to get to the bathroom.

I’m facing eight months of treatments. I do stand a very good chance of going into remission after that but how long it will last and what will happen if I relapse is uncertain. The average survival rate from diagnosis is five years. I’m pushing to be one of those that drives it up if I possibly can.

My world has shrunk very quickly and I’m clinging to as much normality as I can amid the illness, fatigue and treatments, but I think it would be fair to say it’s pretty minimal this stage.

Good luck with your respective journeys. This thread is a Dailey inspiration and possibly the best on mumsnet

Missingducks · 08/10/2026 08:29

@OvertiredandConfused well that is completely shit and I am sorry to hear it - also shaking my maracas for you being one to push the survival rates.

Whilst you have tons more going on, be assured your chums here want to hear from you as and when you can drop in.

And in the words of my wise friend, Keep On Keeping On.

May the good days outnumber the bad ones x

wendywoopywoo222 · 08/10/2026 09:24

@OvertiredandConfused. Gosh that's crap. I’m shaking my maracas for you too. (Love that expression). Take care of yourself and keep in touch. X

Billybingbong · 08/10/2026 09:41

@OvertiredandConfused I am so sorry you are going through such a shit time. You may not be on here so much, but I hope you get some comfort from knowing your band of supporters are all here willing you on.

Go do what you need to do, fight the good fight, while we collectively shake those maracas for you 💕💐 xx

@SilenceInside ..so technically all these people saying they are taking it ..might actually not be taking it ...or could they be part of the trial..is it currently on trial in the UK .

No. They're buying it illegally on the black market.

I've had two emails in the last week, offering it to me at a bargain price. They're also offering tirzepatide (MJ) at a bargain price.

Both of them are sold in vials of dry powder, to which you add water for injections.

It's extremely dodgy and I've blocked both email addresses. Goodness knows what's actually in the vials. It's incredibly risky.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 08/10/2026 13:33

Oh darling @OvertiredandConfused how dreadful for you.
I'm so sorry that you're going through this. What a nightmare.
