@TragicMuse you look fantastic! Love the dress.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 10/10/2026 22:54

@TragicMuseyou look great & a lovely dress! Great you are feeling so proud! You should! . Can I be honest, the thought popped in my head, “she doesn’t look like she has ever struggled with weight”. As in, if I never met you, how would I know any different.
i think when I meet people now I’m aware they didn’t know me when I was massive but strangely feel awkward the other day as with some people who’ve known me all sizes and some, only recently. One newer person made a comment about larger sizes (they are not), but joked if they are any more cake they would need 2seats on the plane. The people who knew me longest turned and looked at me (subtle but I felt it) and it felt uncomfortable like they didn’t know how to react and that they would never have made a joke like that in front of me. Maybe checking for my reaction like it could offend me. It makes me then feel really conscious to think that they will never forget that I was that big and somethings will always be unsaid.
i know I am treated better by people now-i really notice it. At work I still have an old profile picture up on the wall. I hate it! I want to ask to change it, but feel to embarrassed and don’t want to confront it and discuss my weight, but it’s like long lasting evidence that I was massive that I keep trying to ignore.

Have you all changed work profile photos?

TragicMuse · 11/10/2026 08:57

Thank you friends!

@Reginaphalangeeeee of course you can be honest! And thank you. I think that’s what I hope for when I meet new people.

I have changed my profile picture on Teams. And I had to get a replacement ID card recently so I asked to have a new photograph taken - they’re all very aware of my weightloss and were very accommodating. But I’ve also really changed my hair so I sometimes use that as my excuse, especially when people say ‘I didn’t recognise you’

What I have really noticed is how differently people treat one. Thin privilege is absolutely a thing, and they don’t even realise they’re doing it, or what they’re doing. That has become so noticeable to me.

tescovaluebread · 11/10/2026 09:41

Hi all, hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

Sw 144k
CW 77kg

I have finally broken the plateau of 78-79kg for the last 3 months 🥳

@Reginaphalangeeeee I can completely relate to everything you said. I find it a bit strange that the school mums don't know I have been obese, they would have met me Sept 2025 and I was already 35kg lost at that point. For the work photo, why don't you say something like you want to update to a more recent picture? Don't give any reasons, they might be accommodating, unless it costs them money?

@PuzzledObserver your post about the target weight really sat with me today. I am wanting to reach my goal weight of 75kg, but also I couldn't tell you why. It's just chasing the number. If I looked like this and the scales said 75kg, I'd have said great! Goal reached, let's get a maintenance plan etc. But just as you said there are other things more important than the number. And the end weight can be a bit fuzzy. If I went the rest of my life at 77kg would I be upset, nope! So maybe I need to rethink my goal. Maybe it's already here??

For anyone who wants advice maintaining, this great podcast here. Podcast here talks about someone who has maintained over 100lbs weight loss for a while and she talks about the mindset of "never reaching goal".

Onenotsosmallstep · 11/10/2026 10:04

@PuzzledObserver thank you, it’s helpful to try and think about things in different ways. I’m 43 but have either been ‘on’ or ‘off’ a diet since I was 13 if not before. I’ve never reached goal though so somehow it felt important. What I am intending though is a goal range of 4lbs or so that I’ll try to stay within.

I really dislike the thin privilege but it’s so real. I had a job interview this week and felt like people warmed to me more- or am I imagining it as I feel more confident (though outwardly always was). It all just feels a bit tricky, as is often said what I look like is the least interesting thing about me?

Well done on keeping going and getting past the plateau gang.

PuzzledObserver · 11/10/2026 13:29

@tescovaluebread happy to have made you think - and thank you for the podcast suggestion, I will give that a listen. Never too early to think about maintenance.

@Onenotsosmallstep oh I understand the appeal of finally reaching goal. I have also never reached mine… when I was a teenager it used to be 9st 7lb and the closest I ever got in my early 20’s was 10st 4. That was actually better than I realised, because in the intervening years I had gained another inch in height, so 9.7 would have made my BMI 20.9, which would quite possibly have been too low given that I am fairly muscular.

Hey, this has made me realise…… today’s weigh-in puts me at the lowest weight I have been since the regain phase after the time I got to 10st 4lb. I weigh the least I have for 39 years….

What I keep on telling myself is that the health is what matters most. I am trying to switch my focus to body fat percentage and particularly visceral fat.

On the thin privilege thing, I honestly can’t say I notice people treating me any differently. Maybe it’s an age thing - though I don’t know how old any of you are? But I’m in my sixties, and it’s well known that women become invisible after the menopause. Maybe a slim post-menopausal women is no different to a fat one? Or maybe that it’s, given my hobbies and volunteering, most of the people I spend time around are older than me, and they don’t care.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 11/10/2026 15:06

@PuzzledObserverinteresting to consider maybe age has a factor but probably just environments of judgement?
For me, professionally it seems to make a difference and I have also noticed it in healthcare appointments.
But in general, socially meeting new people, they definately warm to me more and I notice less dirty and disapproving looks. I have felt this on public transport and cinemas especially.

GeraldThePufferSponge · 12/10/2026 17:33

Do any of you use Medicine Market place or Medy? I’m looking to go up to 7.5mg but the price from Boots is too spendy.
Do they need a signature and will it be okay temperature wise to wait til I get home in the evening? I’m out when the post is delivered usually!

TragicMuse · 12/10/2026 17:46

I’m 61 and determined not to be forced into sexist age-based invisibility!

SilenceInside · 12/10/2026 17:47

@GeraldThePufferSponge I’m using MMP at the moment, it was Royal Mail with no signature needed. I’m always in, but they would have left it in my “safe place” if I wasn’t, I think. It’ll be fine temp wise until you get home, they are well packed in woolcool insulation with a large decent quality ice pack.

PuzzledObserver · 12/10/2026 18:04

TragicMuse · 12/10/2026 17:46

I’m 61 and determined not to be forced into sexist age-based invisibility!

Do you have a strategy to avoid it?

For me - I’m kind of used to being an invisible woman on account of the degree of my (past) obesity. Very few men look you up and down in an interested way when you’re over 20 stone.

And tbf that made me feel safe, as I have some CSA in my background. Apart from my first ever boyfriend when I was 16, every relationship I’ve had has been me making the move. Anyone who showed interest in me made me want to run a mile.

I don’t want to be ignored. But I also don’t want to be hassled,

Springflowers2 · 12/10/2026 19:50

I swim a lot ..like 6 times a week, and I've definitely noticed men talking to me in my smaller costume than in my size 32 one ..there's a few of them that have commented on my nice tattoos, one noticed I'd had my hair cut .and one is an ex neighbour who didn't used to speak to me ,but now waves enthusiastically across the pool at me ...weird things men are ..I'm not used to random men starting conversation with me .. especially telling me my haircut looks nice .

PearlsTeapot · 12/10/2026 19:52

I'm 40 and I've never noticed being treated any differently. Thankfully.

@TragicMuse you look stunning in that dress and you'd never know you were once bigger! You're a beauty!

TragicMuse · 12/10/2026 19:53

My strategy so far is bleached hair @PuzzledObserver!

I have a teenager so I am still fairly in touch with what’s going on with young people. And I dress with a nod to current style and fashion but not overly try-hard.

Springflowers2 · 12/10/2026 19:53

I'm now currently on 900 mg of gabapentin per day ..stoned as fuck ...my ADHD meds and the gabapentin are not playing nicely.. hopefully this will settle down ..or I will be pain free ...yay....but no driving of the car ...boo hoo

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 12/10/2026 19:56

@GeraldThePufferSponge I've used MMP for ages and never had to sign for an order.

It's the only pharmacy that manages to send pens which still have a frozen ice pack with them when they're delivered.

MoneyJo · 12/10/2026 20:25

I might have asked you all something along these lines before but I'm just wondering what to do, and I know many of you are old timers when it comes to MJ.

I've been on it 7 months and lost 3 stone 5 since my first jab, and 4 stone 10 since I cut out sugar for the year before.

I'm now 15 stone 6. I was briefly 15:4 but settled back at 15:6. I've been here for about 4 weeks. I've been on 10mg for 5 jabs now and feel like I might need to go up again. I was hoping to stay here for a while.

My issue with going up (other than the cost!) is that I still have 4 stone to lose and I'm worried that I might soon end up on 15mg with nowhere else to go. I know I have slipped on my steps / exercise compared to the earlier days although I do swim twice a week, but things have been particularly busy for the past two weeks.

Thanks for reading this. I would just love to hear your experience and to know if you kept losing. It all seemed so great for the first few months and now I'm worried I won't get to target.

PearlsTeapot · 12/10/2026 20:26

MMP will deliver to a safe space and definitely be fine til you get home from work, temp wise. I have never had a problem with them (til now, til they've booted me!). I do recommend them.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 12/10/2026 20:32

Hi @MoneyJo my experience tells me that you will get to your target.
It may take you a long time but you'll gradually get there.

It took me two years and eight months to lose ten and a half stone. In the last year, I lost two stone - that's very slow - but I made it.

I got to 15mg quite quickly and stayed there. Sometimes I jabbed every five days. And often, I felt that nothing was happening..... but it clearly was, because I eventually reached my goal.

MoneyJo · 12/10/2026 20:53

Thank you @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne how quickly did you go up to 15, can you remember? You must have been on it a long time then.

Gosh. At the time, we were all advised to go up every month, really, so I got to 15mg within 6 months.

Brill, thanks - would it fit through a letterbox do you think? I’m in a block of flats so no safe space unfortunately! Hoping it’ll fit through the letter bid….

I would definitely agree with this and I'm about 3 stone behind you
I'm assuming I've another year at least before I get to 12 stone ..which I think would be a nice size 12 .
I didn't expect the last leg to take so long
I follow a lady on social media who started at a similar weight to me and she is stuck at 15 stone as well

I was with treated and I was advised to go up every month as well ..I definitely think it would of been better to try to have longer at each level

Definitely won't fit through a letterbox, not even close. It has the ice packs and wool insulation so is definitely a parcel.
