How does everybody keep warm in autumn / winter?

I always used to run warm but now I'm constantly freezing and I feel like its worse than last year.

I have a heated blanket for the sofa that I use on an evening.

Have bought a warm winter coat in a smaller size from Vinted and picked up new warmer gloves at the weekend.

But what else have people found useful that I can stock up on?

SilenceInside · 20/09/2026 22:18

@Janie934 I have thermal layers to wear underneath everything, so thermal vests and thermal long sleeve tops. I have thermal leggings too. Then it's lots of layers, so gilet, cardigan, neck buff (Seasalt do lots), snood scarf etc.

I wear fluffy Seasalt socks around the house (you can get short or knee high ones) and have a long length hot water bottle that I can sit with when I'm working - I work from home at a desk job. That's when I can get the most cold as I sit still for long periods. I will wear fingerless gloves/wrist warmers whilst working too. I also have a microwave heat pad as well as the hot water bottle, this one: https://amzn.eu/d/0fzrbBgh

I have electric rechargeable hand warmers that are fabulously warming when on the school run in freezing temperatures. These ones - https://amzn.eu/d/061VJPbq

The best thing that keeps me toasty is an under sheet bed warmer that has a timer so that I can heat my bed up before I get in it and then it goes off after a few hours so I don't over heat.

Well done @SilenceInside and @RenegadeKeeblerElf on your losses! I am so sick of this plateau, I don't think I'm eating particularly very much but still the scales say the same despite me going up in dosage every 5 days.

I've given up on slimming world, it wasn't good for me to be thinking so strictly of things as basically good or bad, and constantly counting and worrying. Plus you have to eat tons of veg, and they all seem to live on eggs and quark which I both hate! I tried loads of the SW food from Iceland and it was all shit and inedible. Poor DS and DW are very relieved it's over. I've lost 3lb in 7 weeks. I'd rather calorie count which I do without any stress.

That killed it for me to .. everything was add an egg or add cottage cheese..I hated both and was vegetarian at the time ,I'm now vegan so it definitely wouldn't work.
At least you knew to quit before it cost to much money
I think I joined over my lifetime at least 5 times ..once every ten years or so ...got there eventually that it didn't work for me

Springflowers2 · Yesterday 09:40

I need to moan ...
I'm so stressed and frustrated with myself
I'm up and down like a yo yo
14 stone 13 pounds this morning
I genuinely can't figure this out
I've got my daughter on at me that I'm not eating enough..I'm definitely thinking about food a lot ..
Something is currently going wrong for me somewhere.
How can It swing from 14 , 9 to 15 ...and back so much
I definitely can not eat any less than I am doing
I know it's to little, and I know I won't be able to keep it up long term
I'm not due to jab until Wednesday this week
But I'm thinking I might jab today as I'm really struggling
I'm thinking about food a lot ..I've had to start not buying certain foods again because I'm finding I'm lacking control
I'm really scared I'm going to put the whole lot back on ... obviously not overnight.
But I've lost large amounts in the past before and it's always gone back on..
Suddenly it all makes sense why this medication needs to be permanent for a lot of people...me included
I feel like I'm in maintenance..but I don't want to be

EnterSandfan · Yesterday 10:08

Sorry to everyone struggling, it's a hard old slog this journey isn't it.

I was 183lbs a couple weeks ago, then in one week I put 7lbs on wtf, maybe inflammation and water (I am struggling with some injuries at the minute) but it's not shifted yet, still at 186lbs. Really really want to break into the 170s! I am going to have to go back to strict calorie counting this week, I've let my diet slide a lot!

I've also run out of MJ, can't afford more at the minute and want to try and do it myself for a while. Might be an absolutely crazy decision but we'll see how it goes for a while, can always start again on 2.5 i guess.

NSV - for the first time in years I was able to try on a pair of normal cheap knee boots in a shop and zip them up, instead of needing wider calf ones from somewhere like Evans.
NSFail - all my lovely rings are too big and I'm going to have to get them resized 😭

TheZingyFish · Yesterday 11:43

Good news! I’ve been worried about the plateau that so many of us have hit but managed to lose 3.5lbs last week and have lost another pound this week.

I’m actually more chuffed about this week than last week as it shows I can lose two weeks running again, especially after a bigger loss, so I’m hoping this will continue.

I am now down 8st 13.5lbs, so tantalisingly close to 9 stone but my weight is still in the high 15s, and BMI is still in the 35s. It just shows how far some of us have to go. I’ve lost the weight of another person and am still obese!

Springflowers2 · Yesterday 12:47

@EnterSandfan ..sorry to hear that ..it must feel frustrating after your hard work so far ..do keep posting,I'm really interested how it goes and what happens when you come of mj
My rings are all to big to ,I bought these little coil things of Amazon and they make them smaller
@TheZingyFish ..oh that's brilliant I'm really pleased for you nearly 9 stone of is absolutely fantastic xx

I'm on holiday, all inclusive. Been here a few days trying to make good choices in that I'm eating a lot of proteins and fruit/veg. I've only had 1 wine so far. The old me would have been drinking beer from morning til night and having bread/chips with meals. There's some progress but I expect a massive gain!

Also been on a sun lounger with no thought of it collapsing. I'm not that biggest person here and I have a much nicer holiday wardrobe than any other holiday I've been on!

MrTiddlesTheCat · Yesterday 17:42

I'm another who has found the last weeks really hard. Zero or just 100 g losses. So on Saturday I finally decided to go up a dose as I've been on 2.5 mg the whole time. Filled out the form and sent it to my dr for approval.

Then I realised the stall coincided with me starting to take melatonin to help me sleep. So I haven't taken it for the last 2 nights. And I'm back to not wanting to eat chocolate and biscuits.

I think it's the hangover effect. Even feeling just a tiny bit more fatigued, and my control completely disappears. For me tiredness is the enemy of weightloss.

PearlsTeapot · Yesterday 19:20

One of my absolute favourite NSVs is being able to just FIT in places. Like yesterday went to m&s restaurant with grandma and DW and it's all tightly squished in. She sat us right in the middle and I was absolutely fine easing my way between the racks of seating. Old me would have been having a fit.

PearlsTeapot · Yesterday 19:23

Also, here's a toilet selfie of me yesterday. I really feel like I'm looking more normal even with my huge lipooedema legs/hips. 14.10 stone now!

Mounjaro - 10 stone or more to lose - Thread 15.
SilenceInside · Yesterday 23:21

@PearlsTeapot you look fab! Your legs and hips don't look huge at all. I think there's a real visible difference in the lipoedema since your pictures from earlier on in the weight loss process.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · Today 10:56

Hello @PaolaGLP1Guide I haven't seen you here before.
This thread is for people with 10st or more to lose.
How are you getting on with your weight loss?

MrTiddlesTheCat · Today 11:16

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · Today 10:59

Oh I see.
@PaolaGLP1Guide hasn't got any weight to lose. Paula has started
THIS thread.
Hmm

That feels a bit grubby.

MrTiddlesTheCat · Today 11:17

I have collarbones!

SilenceInside · Today 11:30

MrTiddlesTheCat · Today 11:17

I have collarbones!

Fantastic! Collarbones are beautiful things.

During the process of losing my fat covering, I have spent a lot of time searching "is it normal that...." about various bony bits that I have not ever seen or felt before. I was a bit preoccupied with whether my "rib flare" was normal or not having never seen it before.

PuzzledObserver · Today 12:58

Collarbones - God, yes! Mine are now at least visible, though not prominent. And I appears also to have hip bones and a rib cage, though I can only feel those, not see them.

A while ago I asked a friend what that strange roughly rectangular bump inside my ankle was. She said it was a bone….

TragicMuse · Today 18:11

Oh I love my collarbones and rib flare! I know that’s vanity and is more an indicator of a weak core but I love seeing them! It’s a good reminder of how far I’ve come.
