Hello all. Feel I have been riding the storm of settling kids back into school and coming out of summer routine.
i still have gotten eating right since holiday. It’s sad, it’s not the week holiday that does the damage , it’s my mindset coming back. I find it hard to return to strict eating … not anything I bloody fancy.
i admit… not been back on the scales again yet. I don’t want to see the increase.
I realise I have been giving the kids more treats recently, partly some sort of celebration for getting through each day back at school… but this psychology is wrong and fallen into it.
Had a talk with myself today and did not buy myself an icecream when out with kids. I also up my dose a little to 12.5mg (from 11mg). I feel I probably need the support to get back on track.

one NSV. I did a high ropes course with my kids. I would previously been over weight limited and last time (20years ago) when I wasn’t, I did it and struggled physically. This time was a much different experience and happy I could do it with my kids.

wishing you all a good week. Here’s hoping I don’t feel too rough from the dose bump up.

Springflowers2 · 07/09/2026 11:42

@Reginaphalangeeeee ..wow high ropes ..that sounds brilliant..is that a go ape thing ..I think their weight limit was 20 stone ,so I was never able to do that ..
Good for you x

Springflowers2 · 07/09/2026 11:49

It does make me think the things I missed out on ..
I remember being 17 and a half stone ,at university and going to Alton towers for the day ..I didn't even think I was fat at the time ,but I went on the pirate ship ,and this really thin woman was trying desperately to pull the bar down further on herself, she looked down the line of people and saw me ..and I realised my stomach was stopping the bar going down lower on her ..I felt awful, and the ride just started ,so nothing I could do ..
Never went again
Then trampolining..that had a 17 stone limit,so I could never bounce ,when I took my children.
Then ilse of wight ,had these cable cars down to the beach ..I made an excuse to stay with my baby at the top ..but really it was my weight
We never took the kids on a plane anywhere either ..partly due to me worrying I'd not get the seatbelt to fit me .
I do wonder if people had made me feel shit I might of made an effort years ago.. people were to kind to me ,maybe I needed a dose of reality
But even my doctor never said anything..it was always ...let's sort your mental health out first ..well ..that never happened..

Reginaphalangeeeee · 07/09/2026 13:26

Interesting thoughts @Springflowers2 and memories of my own popped in my head as I read.
At about 15stone I went to Alton Towers and a ride with over shoulder straps wouldn’t close over my large bust. I didn’t consider myself that big and hadn’t even thought ever I may not be able to ride. I was with a new boyfriend who joked about the ride being boobist which allowed me to compartmentalise that as boob issue not weight. I was however mortified.

The last time I flew before loosing weight (prob near 22 stone) was for a professional event. I had been sat next to an important person I wanted to impress. I was so aware my bottom was on his seat and I panicked when realising the belt would only just fit if I squeeze and sat uncomfortable. I hardly breathed deeply the whole flight, intent on trying not to take up more space. I was so sad.

I have had health professionals very abruptly tell me about my enormous weight and it had very deep psychological issues of shame for me and I think prevented me seeking medical help out of fear of more shame… so I am so glad you haven’t experienced that.

And yes, it was a ‘go ape’ and it was delightful to not even in my mind question ability to weigh sufficiently under to take part.

Supression already high from up dose yesterday, so hoping to keep eating on track this week and weigh end of the week (I can not face seeing numbers just yet).

Good luck all

Good grief, 12.5mg is kicking my arse! Im knackered and nauseous. Bed for me…

Reginaphalangeeeee · 07/09/2026 22:59

Ah @TragicMuse me too today. It’s been a terrible work day -bad meeting followed by bad news and rejection left right and center. Shitty male colleagues undermining me too and just the worse mounjaro headache and dry mouth too. Headed to bed feeling very low and anxious too 🙄

I hope you feel better soon!

EnterSandfan · 08/09/2026 10:52

@Springflowers2 aah no, if I had a quid for every time someone was shitty or downright nasty to me about my weight, I'd genuinely be rich...but it never helped me sort myself out. I think it has to come from within ourselves when we're ready

I also think a lot about the things I've missed out on or not enjoyed fully because of my weight but I try to remind myself I wouldn't be who/where I am now if I hadn't been who I was, if that makes sense. It's hard though isn't it, I find it hard not to be jealous of friends who've never had to worry about fitting on a rollercoaster/being able to buy clothes in a normal shop etc, I can't imagine what it's like to never give it a second thought. It must be such a nice sense of freedom!

I mean obviously as a child and teenager the bullying was horrendous, and aimed at my weight..but as an adult, the only people who ever made me feel bad were the local community midwifes attached to my doctor surgery.
I was treated with contempt,I'm very good at picking up when someone doesn't like me ,and every time I had to see one of them it caused me huge distress.
But otherwise, everyone ignored my weight and so did I .
I do feel sad I got to over 50 before I decided to tackle it ,as well I had so much to cope with at home ,there wasn't time to focus on me
That's a lot of life I've missed out on
I'm sorry to hear about the shitty comments or people being nasty to you ,that must of been hard to deal with .

@Reginaphalangeeeee hope you have a brighter day today 😊

I'm feeling so much better on my 5 day jabbing schedule, no mad hungry days that send me spiralling. Just constant. I don't have suppression anymore and do have some food noise but I feel full quicker and can fill myself up with coffee.

That plane journey sounds awful,I can well imagine how you felt..but you didn't let your weight stop you going, you got on the plane and got on with your life
Yes Alton towers rides do stay in your memory when you don't fit in the ride .
It reminded me of a Lego land visit..and this helicopter ride ,where the helicopter went up and down and the child thought they were moving it as part of the ride .. everyone's helicopter was indeed going up and down ,and my poor son ,sat next to me , couldn't get ours to go up ,it just faffed about doing very little,oh mortifying ..I knew exactly why our helicopter wouldn't go up ,I expect everyone watching did as well.

Oooh you've just reminded me of when I went for my very first midwife appointment when I was pregnant..the midwife was moaning about my BMI and telling me to "knock the surgery drinks on the head" (I don't even drink them), and she just generally made me feel shit. She was so unfriendly as well. I left that appointment so upset, I was already terrified of pregnancy and being 'high risk' etc. I have always found doctors and nurses on the whole (not all of them, but a fair few) uninterested in any medical issues I've gone to them with, and I wondered would they take my concerns more seriously if I was thin.
I can relate to the feeling of being treated with contempt, do you know what - when bigger I actually got so used to a lot of people being generally a bit cold and unfriendly towards me that I thought it was just normal and the same for everyone. When I've lost weight I have noticed people on the whole are nicer, more helpful, more likely to say good morning when passing etc etc. It makes me kind of distrust people a bit..I'd like to think I would never treat someone differently because of their size.

EnterSandfan · 08/09/2026 11:32

The first time I went to Alton towers I was about 17 stone and just managed to fit in all the rides but i spent the day worrying about it. The second time I went, I'd lost some weight and fit with no problems and it was so much more enjoyable. I remember getting on Oblivion and seeing a large young chap have to get off because the harness wouldn't fit over him.. he was sort of laughing it off and making a joke of it whilst his mates stayed on the ride. I felt awful for him, I could see he was trying not to show his disappointment. It made me so sad for him

tescovaluebread · 08/09/2026 12:00

One of the reasons why I love this group is because (unfortunately) we have all at times felt a similar way, beind in a large body in the smaller bodied world. Whether that be not fitting in 'one size fits all', making ourselves smaller, not wanting to embarrass ourselves etc. I remember always meeting friends at a restaurant earlier than everyone else to 'save a table' when it is because I wanted to make sure the server didn't seat us in a booth that I couldn't fit in.

I hope I don't offend anyone here, but when I was fat, I also didn't like fat people. At 23 stone, I'd look at other overweight people and think they were lazy, ugly and all the other things that people think. At 23 stone, I would look at someone overweight and think " how can they wear those clothes? Do they know what they look like?" As if my fat self wasn't the same. 🙄I wonder if it was the case of self projecting and it's really what I felt about myself, because now, I feel nothing but understanding for those who are larger than me navigating an unfair world.

Sorry if I offended but I wonder if anyone here thinks similarly?

Yes definitely I do agree ,the hospital midwifes were always lovely to me .
It was just the community ones who were not .
I had a lot of raised eyebrows about BMI
The last birth I got referred to a consultant by the community midwife, for my 4 th child ,and I went to the appointment and he said ..why are you here ,I said ..I assume because of my weight..
There was no other issues.i never had a second appointment with him.
I also remember the midwife doing this blood test ,can't remember what it was for ,but she did it 3 times on me , because she expected a different result ,and kept huffing it wasn't working, because I wasn't getting a negative result.
I think I tried hard to block that out

I'm finding I'm wanting to eat more ,and it's getting really hard to keep it up
I hope when I take the 12 .5 tomorrow the extra really helps me
I'm so scared I'm going to be stuck on this medication for life
I tried going down to 10 mg ( sorry repeating myself) and I just couldn't even maintain on it ..
I'm just praying for cheaper alternatives for maintenance

@Springflowers2

I don't really know. I 1000% knew I was fat. But it's a mix of emotions.

You know how some people put themselves down/make fun of themselves as a defence mechanism.

In my mind, I'd put other fat people down/judge them/avoid them etc. Definitely self-projecting or some sort of coping mechanism.

I'd also look at thin people and be really envious and annoyed that they were thin because they "didn't deserve it because they were too bitchy/annoying/didn't even wear pretty clothes/insert trait here" and that the thinness was wasted on them and should have gone to someone like me who really deserved it. I haven't thought this way since I was a teen, but I remember it well.

It was all envy and judgement towards myself.

One thing in the process I have tried to learn is to not be so hard on myself and, by extension, on others. So I have actually become a nicer person. Perhaps another NSV... 😂

I agree. I don't want to go back to my old weight and I don't want to go back to that constant thinking about grazing, or never feeling full.

GeraldThePufferSponge · 08/09/2026 17:24

Wondering if I could get some sympathy/positivity… I’m so frustrated I could cry. I gained again last week 2.6lbs (which I don’t think I deserved) and lost 2.3 this week so a net gain across two weeks. But I’ve tried so, so bloody hard.

I’ve been to the gym 3-4 x week, calorie counted everything, cut out take aways, fizzy drinks, biscuits, crisps, sweets and prioritised my protein and fibre. I’ve cut the big majority of my alcohol intake (2 drinks a week now). When I’ve been out, I’ve eaten bloody salad instead of what I actually want off the menu. I’ve cut most of the UPFs out of my diet and slaved over home cooked meals made from scratch with enough cruciferous vegetables to sink a battleship.

And I’ve still gained in total across two weeks and I’m so frustrated by it. Am I doing something wrong? My TDEE is 3,000 calories a day so I’ve been eating 2,000 a day. I’ve put so much effort in that I’m a bit gutted to be honest! Has anyone else had weeks like this?

afaloren · 08/09/2026 17:42

The posts about theme parks really resonate with me. I was the person who had to get off a ride because the harness wouldn’t close. It was so humiliating. I don’t blame the workers, just myself.

Today I went to Zip World in Wales which is in an old mine. Zip wiring underground and climbing and scrambling through tunnels. They weighed us before we started! I am still plump but I could do it with the rest of my family and I wasn’t even the biggest. Amazing feeling.

SilenceInside · 08/09/2026 18:19

@GeraldThePufferSponge you’re not doing anything wrong! You lost 2.3lbs this week, that’s great and has put you back on a downwards trend. I wouldn’t worry about the 0.3lbs so you’ve lost what you gained last week. Weight loss is hardly ever a steady downward pattern. I had many weeks where I was doing exactly the same as the week before and lost nothing or even gained. It’s the long term trend across many weeks and months that’s important not the week to week relative gain/static/loss number. I think you’re doing amazingly, and it’s all good for your overall health even if the scales aren’t playing ball this week.
