My first jabs arrived today. Thinking of starting Wednesday which is technically end of April but wanted to start a new group for anyone starting soon!

Nervous but kind of excited for good results. Watched a YouTube video instruction for the pen before, I might get my husband to do it for me!!

Anyone want to join me and share / support each other??

Hi all. Looking for some advice please. I am on my first pen so 2.5 and will take my 4th injection on Wednesday so I need to decide whether to go up to 5. I’ve lost just under 6 lbs, that’s todays weight so not expecting much of a further drop on Thursday which is my weekly weigh in. I had zero side effects until this last week where I’ve been getting regular and bad headaches. Managed by ibuprofen and paracetamol combination but still unpleasant and I’m drinking plenty and not under eating so can’t seem to avoid them.

I need to do my next consult with the provider and I expect they’ll tell me to move to 5? I have 2 stone to lose and I’m paying privately for this. I’m a bit nervous to move up and would gladly stay on 2.5 if I could continue to lose. I like the idea of doing the 3.75 that I’ve read several people here do but feel like a newbie to this and don’t want to mess up! It also looks like my pen has the leftover dose in it so guess I should use that but how do I know if there’s more than one dose? I don’t fancy getting a needle to draw it out and inject myself.

The leftover dose is called the golden dose, you can try and break the pen to get the extra dose out or use a needle which is the easiest way. The twisting part of the pen locks after 4 uses so it’s brute force you’ll need to snap it basically.

For me 6lbs would be plenty for me personally to lose in a month so I’d stick to 2.5 but if you want to boost weightloss go for the higher dose

Well done on the weight loss everyone.

Despite my acceptable weight loss (first week: 4lbs) I've gone up to 5 in my second delivery (which is due today). The reason is I don't like being hungry 2 days every week, not when I'm paying the coin!

Does anyone have instructions for injecting 3.5 out of a 5 pen?

Well done everyone! It’s great to see everyone doing well.
another 2lb down for me this week… I took a dose of 3.75mg this morning as I was too scared to jump up to the 5mg straight away. Hopefully I’ll get a bit more suppression and not too many side effects. In other news, I’ve got this red welt/ raised bumps (in a triangle type shape the size of 2x 50ps) on the leg I usually inject on. It came up yesterday, not directly following and injection so I’m not sure why it’s happening. Anyone got welts at their injection sites? I swapped legs today for my injection. I’ve made an ANP this afternoon to get it checked (I’m a worrier)
a quick google says it’s a relatively common side effect but I think it’s weird that it’s come up after 5 jabs rather than straight away.
Anyhoo, keep up the great work folks…

I inject in my stomach - maybe easier to hide the bruise?

Sleep… how’s it going, folks? I jabbed on Saturday night. Last night I could not sleep. Am like a zombie today. And I’m still only on the 2.5. I don’t think I dare go up. My system feels nutty!

That happened to me after my first dose. I had dose 2 on Thursday and it seems to have calmed down a lot so I have decent sleep now. Hope your sleep improves soon. It can really impact mood, can't it? 💐

Pen picked up from post office and 5mg dose done.

I was ok with using willpower for a few days and even lost another lb 😁

So new weight is 12 stone and 2 pounds.

I don’t know what it is but the thought of injecting in my belly makes me squeamish hahaha. I’ve been an epi pen user since age 12 so injecting into my thigh is always the go to… I’ll maybe have to put my big girl pants on cause the welt is not concealable. My new injection site has started to get little spots forming already so likely another welt will come there too 😪

Any side effects from the 5? I'm assuming it's your first dose of 5?

Are you planning to conceal it with the big girl pants, or do you mean you’re putting them on to be brave and get your stomach 😂🫣😆

Two questions for you ladies:

Question 1
How do you ensure you get enough protein in your diet? (Tips please!)

Question 2
Have you started lifting weights to offset muscle loss?

  1. eggs, tuna, chicken…all my meals have one unless I really can’t eat anything so just have toast.

  2. not yet but I will. I’m shredding the calories to the bone right now, but once I’m not losing 3lbs a week I’ll be adjusting my intake and exercising

madeinthe80z · Yesterday 14:59

Love how active we are on this thread :)

To the person scared of tummy jabbing - I did it last week and this week and it was fine! I was also really scared and had stuck to my thigh because it felt better but I have a very flabby lover belly so plenty to work with there! Just aim for at least 2 inches away and avoid any stretch marks that’s all.

answers to questions:

  1. Protein I’ve really managed to get on top of now and am averaging 120g per day. I do protein yoghurt for breakfast or beans and eggs with protein bagel, a chicken/ham and cottage cheese salad or protein ready meal for lunch and then normal evening meal or protein ready meal again. Sometimes I’ll have a premade protein shake which have 20-30g in often for less than 200kcal. My next target is to try and reduce the processed foods somewhat but at the moment with working full time and 2 young kids if I didn’t rely on the ready meals I would really struggle, particularly on days where appetite is more suppressed.
  2. I really want to! I am struggling with fatigue at the minute and therefore motivation is floored. So if anyone can tell me how to get my 3 year old to sleep past 4.30am that would be a big help!! Maybe I should just get up then and do some weights but I am soooo blummin tired at the minute, particularly in the afternoons, and I am worse in the few days after I have jabbed as well. Anyone else?

I used to jab in my leg. Switched to my belly and far less painful - can't feel a thing. Seriously, nothing.....

Could you recommend some good protein ready meals please?

Will answers these the wrong way around…

2 Yes, I started lifting weights when I started. Never done it before. Really love it. I have paid a personal trainer for the time being as no idea what I am doing, but the routine we do could be done at home. I’m sure good example routines online. I do 2 x per week. Already feel stronger.

1 Like others, eggs, tuna, smoked mackerel, bit more meat and fish, lots of tofu and also protein powder in yogurt. I use Sun Warrior plain flavour. And I do buy most natural protein bars I have found (nakd). Eating enough protein isn’t that easy for me, but most days I’m at or over 100g. Apparently I should ideally be doing 112g, but unless I’m having a decent portion of meat that day, I don’t make it to that.

Edited

Only ever done tummy. Never injected anything before, but after one or two goes I just got into the routine and it’s no worries. Never hurts if I inject fat, but did feel the prick when I went further out from bellybutton towards hips, but not painful as such. Good luck. Honestly I think you’ll be fine. If you can pinch a roll of fat on your tum (like me!), start in there!

I buy the MyProtein ready meals from Iceland. There is a huge range to choose from. My husband likes the meat feast pasta and meat feast pizza. I like the beef and chicken burrito bowl (ping in microwave then finish in the oven for 5 mins, chip shop curry, bang bang Thai chicken, Cajun chicken pasta, katsu curry and the sesame, honey and ginger chicken.

Most of them have a really good protein content (40-60g) per meal and they’ve been a godsend to ensure I am actually eating when I am too tired to prepare anything. My plan is to do some batch cooking when I get chance though as I do want to reduce the processed food.

another easy meal I do is protein wraps with chicken and salad and whatever sauce is to hand. One wrap is like 16g protein so that plus the chicken is great to fill you up and get your protein in but low calories.

I’m jealous - I used to eat so many eggs but I’ve had egg ick since week 3! It’s like being pregnant and having food aversions! Anyone else had any foods they’ve completely gone off now?!

Come to think of it, I’ve kind of had to force myself to eat eggs whereas I normally like them much more.

  1. I'm hardly the poster child for providing advice, because I don't weigh out my food or do accurate calculations on the protein amount. My aim has been higher protein foods, but also higher fibre to prevent constipation.

Typical breakfast is higher protein yoghurt, some kefir for gut health plus the yoghurt is SO thick it helps to thin it out a bit. Sprinkle of chia and pumpkin seeds, then some blueberries/strawberries/raspberries (or what I have). Sometimes I also add a sprinkle of a higher protein/high fibre granola. This sounds like a massive bowl, but I find it it so filling I only add small amounts like a spoon of this or that. Weekends I might have an omelette or leftovers for breakfast.

I've been trying to include more lean chicken, tuna and other meat. Also higher protein pulses/beans like edamame, lentils and legumes to other meals.

  1. I'm 4 weeks in but no, I haven't done any form of weight training. I'm starting with a BMI of 39 and hoping once I've lost more weight it will be easier to exercise.

I'd be interested in knowing what weight training others do because there must be lots of options other than dead lifts and things you see weight lifters doing?

Hahaha 🤣 I’ll be brave and try my jiggly belly next time!

TeamsThemeTune · Yesterday 21:25

God, the struggle with protein. I think the most I've managed on any one day is about 65g, and that was a really good day.

I don't like yoghurt (unless it's those Pret a Manger berry and granola jobbies), or milk, or cottage cheese (that really turned my stomach after one mouthful), or meat, or protein shakes, or tofu. Lentils and beans/pulses can only be eaten on non-working days due to the frankly biblical amount of wind they produce. I've eaten what feels like 3,000 eggs and a bank account-draining amount of smoked salmon. And have you seen the price of sardines?

Frankly I'm fed up thinking about it.

If only sauvignon blanc had protein in it... WHERE IS THE WINE SUPPRESSION????

madeinthe80z · Yesterday 21:30

Hahaha I wonder how close they are to developing protein wine and protein beer?!!

@TeamsThemeTune what about tinned tuna or prawns, they are protein heavy and can I say a big thanks to the PP who recommended the Barebell Protein choc bars which are so yummy!
