Coming off the Jabs - please tell me what happened?

I’ve been off Mounjaro for 2 months now. I got down to my target and started to worry about the injections so decided to stop - I’ve gained 5lbs in that time.
Currently trying to maintain by counting calories (1350 a day) 10,000 daily steps plus running 5K x3 times a week.
Was anyone able to maintain following a similar pattern?
I’m sure the 5lbs gained has gone straight to my stomach and hips, but otherwise I still feel quite lean.

Any advice and tips welcome!

TIA Flowers

I’ve put a stone back on 🙈😭

Me too stopped end of August. Back on. 2.5 as of yesterday 🙄

coconuttyz · 24/01/2026 20:14

How long did it take for the weight to come back on? Did you go back to eating the same pre-jabs or was it gradual hunger returning?

It went back on. I put a thread on mn trying to ask for help and people were unbelievably mean. I'm ok with it now. I'm tired and right now I've got bigger fish to fry. I'll go back on wegovy or mj in the summer. And then I'll try to make some routine changes too. Your exercise levels look fab though!!

user405927 · 24/01/2026 20:18

I put all of the weight (a stone) back on.

WMW · 24/01/2026 20:19

DH came off Mounjaro after losing five stone. It took about two weeks for the weight to start going back on. Two months later, he's back on Mounjaro.

Mean about what? That you’d put the weight back on or that you’d done WLI in the first place? How crappy of them to kick you when you were down, I’m sorry.

ShawnaMacallister · 24/01/2026 20:21

1350 is very low for maintenance! I can't see how anyone who has recently been obese can maintain that kind of intake for long. I think this is something people are going to have to grapple with when they have reduced their BMI so much that their TDEE is a totally unmanageable low number. I'm maintaining (on Mounjaro, nowhere near ready to stop) at BMI 26 and my TDEE is 2000 which is completely manageable. If you're trying to maintain a BMI of 20 or less - you may be setting yourself up for failure anyway.

Alltheyellowbirds · 24/01/2026 20:22

I’m only three weeks into my journey and this thread is dispiriting to read. I definitely can’t afford to stay on them long-term so I really need to find a way to maintain when I stop. I guess forewarned is forearmed so will be following with interest.

TheChosenTwo · 24/01/2026 20:25

I’m planning to never come off them!
I have insulin resistant PCOS, not sure if it can be reversed with weight loss but the injection balances out what my body couldn’t do by itself.
I’ll be on them for as long as they’ll keep prescribing them to me. I’m fairly sure that if I come off them I’ll put the weight back on so I’m just not planning on coming off them. Will cross the bridge if I come to it (them no longer prescribing it to me, I can’t control that).

Solasum · 24/01/2026 20:25

I think the reality is that most adults age 40+ leading a sedentary life probably only need two meals worth of calories per day if they are not going to gain weight.

coconuttyz · 24/01/2026 20:25

@Freesiapleaser Sorry to hear people were so mean, MN can bring out the worst in people sometimes! I have no idea if my exercise regime will work but I’m trying!! 5lbs in 2 months doesn’t feel to bad but maybe mine will just come back on slowly.. who knows!!

My mum is on Mounjaro and has decided that she is not going to come off it
As far as she is concerned this is medication which is used to treat a disease which is obesity

Jaffalemons · 24/01/2026 20:30

I think it’s realistic to expect long term use.

How long did it take for the weight to come back on? Did you go back to eating the same pre-jabs or was it gradual hunger returning?

Hunger came back straight away, about half of the stone has gone on from December til now, the other half was gradual from September. Then December came along and a full blown half stone in a month. I went back to eating way I did pre-mj. Determined to do it differently this time round and get into good eating habits and teach myself to calorie count so I can maintain when I come off again.

coconuttyz · 24/01/2026 20:34

@ShawnaMacallisterIs it really very low? My BMI is 22.3 - I don’t feel hungry and I’ve been counting those calories for 8 weeks now. Maybe the ‘food noise’ is taking longer to return for Me. I wouldn’t consider it setting myself up for failure, I’m trying very hard and plan all my meals accordingly.

Increase your daily steps - 10,000 steps a day is a made up ‘round’ number. 5k three times a week is good, could you add some weight training?
What’s your daily protein intake? 1350 cals per day presumably is ok based on your current weight unless it’s mainly carbs
How much water do you drink per day?

Planner2026 · 24/01/2026 20:42

I have been on a low dose of Wegovy (0.25 shot every other week) to maintain my loss since I reached my goal 2.5 years ago.

Mauro711 · 24/01/2026 20:55

You have most likely lost a lot of muscle mass whilst on the injections, it’s very common, and you seem to focus on cardio over weight lifting at the moment so that will slow your metabolism down. I suggest you start building muscles instead and you will burn more calories day to day even when doing nothing.

coconuttyz · 24/01/2026 20:56

@MrJollyLivesNextDoor My meal plan is very low carb- high protein. I sought professional advice to make sure I was going into maintenance correctly! Water I average 2.5ltrs a day - upping my steps is a good idea. I wouldn’t have a clue where to start with weight training but will definitely look into it!

I couldn't cope on that number but if you are managing then you should be proud of yourself!

It seems pretty low to sustain for the rest of your life. But maybe that’s what it takes - god how depressing!

How are you managing this with getting the prescriptions? Who are you with please?

coconuttyz · 24/01/2026 21:07

@ShawnaMacallisterI’ll have to update in another two months and see! 🤞
