Coming off the Jabs - please tell me what happened?

I’ve been off Mounjaro for 2 months now. I got down to my target and started to worry about the injections so decided to stop - I’ve gained 5lbs in that time.
Currently trying to maintain by counting calories (1350 a day) 10,000 daily steps plus running 5K x3 times a week.
Was anyone able to maintain following a similar pattern?
I’m sure the 5lbs gained has gone straight to my stomach and hips, but otherwise I still feel quite lean.

Any advice and tips welcome!

TIA Flowers

It’s nearly 2 weeks since I took my last jab, unfortunately because I got gallstones and then pancreatitis, so had to stop. 8st down and 2st from target. I’m terrified tbh, as I’d come to terms either being on it long term and now I’m going it alone with no warning. Currently haven’t regained my appetite, but I’ve also been very ill and having to stay very low fat because of that, but who knows what will happen once my gallbladder is out and I can resume some kind of normality?

Thisisthedream · 24/01/2026 21:56

I lost 3st3lb in 6 months. I got up to 5mg MJ, my last injection was July 25. I've put 8lb back on but I've remained the same weight for 2 months now.
I calorie count using an app and usually consume around 1400 calories a day.
I'm going to fall back down to 1200 to see if I can drop 5lb then I'll still be at a 3st loss.
I used the 6 months to re-educate myself around healthier choices and although I often want to eat a family size packet of maltesers I now chose not to which is a huge shift in behaviour for me!

I recommend weight training, you probably lost muscle mass. Suggest a gym and using the pin loaded machines at a weight that’s heavy for you, eg 10 reps where you couldn’t manage 11. Eg set 1, 10
reps could manage 12. Set 2 10 reps last one is a struggle. Set 3 only manage 8.

Can I ask some of you how long you were on the jabs and what doses? I’ve been on 2.5/5mg mj since July and have just had my last dose (2.5). I just can’t afford anymore.
I cannot go back to how I was, it does worry me though with the tales of rapid regain!!!

I think the reality is that most adults age 40+ leading a sedentary life probably only need two meals worth of calories per day if they are not going to gain weight.

Edited

I’ve realised this too.
I’ve only ever eaten 2 meals a day but snacked a lot on nutrient poor food too.
Now I have 2 meals a day and no snacks with the occasional day of extravagance. I have an office job where I sit all day. I’m quite active outside of that, gym/weights, reformer Pilates and swimming and walk every day but that’s an hour of exercise a day pretty much. I just spend so much time otherwise sitting at a desk, I don’t need much food to sustain me.

MiniCoopers · 24/01/2026 22:19

It depends I think, how did you change your eating habits while on it? Are you trying to maintain those changes?

Wowzel · 24/01/2026 22:20

I stopped in August and have put about 1.5kg back on over Christmas.

Have joined the gym and started weight lifting though so it could be that too.

I am worried about what will happen when DH stops taking them as he's lost 5 stone and started well with new habits but not so much now

Specialagentblond · 24/01/2026 22:23

I’ve not taken the jab (I would if I could but my BMI is 26.5). But i have taken berberine gummies in the past which is similar (and much milder) to GLP 1. It does take the edge off the food noise for me. But I can’t compare it to mounjaro.

Might be worth a try? I also want to try inositol at some point.

greylad · 24/01/2026 22:30

I kept it off for about five months, I may have put on a couple of lbs or so.

I got pregnant.

Fast forward, baby is now nearly 18 months old.

I’m now about 18kg heavier than I was when I got pregnant. And about 4kg heavier than I was when I started Ozempic.

Once I finish breastfeeding I am seriously considering going back on them.

As for the question about eating habits - for me, I basically lost my appetite. If you’d put a salad in front of me, I would only have picked at it. I didn’t fancy any food at all, really!

coconuttyz · 24/01/2026 22:32

@SpecialagentblondI’ve never heard of either of those! Will do some research, please can I ask why you stopped with the gummies?

You mean you buy it illegally? Don’t you worry what’s in it?

I shit myself enough imagining catastrophic side effects from the stuff I get prescribed, can’t imagine going black market.

Yes and pretty much most of the people I know do the same

I’ve been on it for over 18 months ( ozempic) with 0 issues and it’s worked perfectly well for me

FlatStanley50 · 24/01/2026 22:40

I came off in September and have put a stone back on. I went back on it last week. The food noise / hunger was immense. I lost 3 stone initially. I’m only 5 foot tall, do weights 3 x a week, 10k steps most days. I agree that two meals a day works.

HarvestMouseandGoldenCups · 24/01/2026 22:52

I don’t see how it’s possible for your to gain fat while eating 1350 calories a day and running 5k three times a week.

Was thinking same. It’s terrifying to think that after I come off MJ I might have to eat BELOW that forever in order to not gain weight. It’s such a small amount of calories especially considering the running.

coconuttyz · 24/01/2026 23:05

@HarvestMouseandGoldenCupsBut I’m not trying to gain fat, I just want to maintain the loss and stay at my current weight

Specialagentblond · 24/01/2026 23:11

@coconuttyzi keep forgetting to take them! I’ve moved to us all taking our supplements at our evening meal time and don’t really want the kids to see me taking them as they are essentially sweets! I think they’re best taken with breakfast which I often skip but I think they have had an effect when I’ve taken them consistently for a about a week.

ThrowingDi · 24/01/2026 23:13

I got down to BMI 20. Maintained that for 6 months without injections. But this was my previous weight - I haven’t been overweight for life and was only overweight for a short period. So this weight isn’t new to me.

i did gain weight over Christmas, disappointed in myself. But I’ve got myself meal prepping to lose it. I’m basically living off broccoli, carrots, chicken, tuna and eggs for the next few weeks. Wish me luck lol

coconuttyz · 24/01/2026 23:14

@SpecialagentblondThanks for coming back to me, I might give them a go as a little top up on my current efforts!

I’ve been off Weg for 10 weeks now (45kgs loss in 13 months, maximum dose 1mg) and have maintained my weight loss.

I’m eating the same way I was on the injection (low fat, high protein, low carb) and have started exercising more. I’m eating more than I did on the injection as I’m trying to maintain not lose weight but so far so good.

I made a lot of changes to my eating habits while I was losing weight and I know I need to stick to those for ever - if I go back to how I used to eat I’ll get fat again. Staying on the medication was never an option for me for financial reasons and I always intended to stop after 12 mths (but wasn’t quite at goal so paid for another month).

Specialagentblond · 24/01/2026 23:26

@coconuttyzgo easy, they can give stomach symptoms.

ZaraCC · 24/01/2026 23:30

I think there is another issue apart from appetite coming back. With the injections, they help you to lose weight apart from just decreased appetite. I am no scientist - something to do with insulin resistance. But it is clear that that level of weight loss and maintenance cannot be retained without them.
