Brand new January 2026 starters

Hi, my first WG pen is in the fridge ready to start on 1st January.

Im 56 (57 in Feb) post menopausal and cancer survivor in remission 5 years nearly. still taking cancer prevention medication that I believe that is hindering my weight loss. I just can't seem to lose it no matter how much I try. It took me 5 months to lose 10lb earlier on in the year.

Im 5' 8" so carry my extra weight well.

I'm a bit worried about the expenses that are going to hit me. Besides the cost of the pen, there is going to be a new wardrobe. But I also think I need to replace my eating habit with another habit. Like being out and about more. My dream is to reach a weight that I can comfortably cycle with (I'm very obese) as I know hitting the gym regularly is not something I can keep up for the rest of my life.

I did order a work shirt yesterday that was on sale. It was slightly too snug when I last ordered it and I didn't like the colour they had then. So my first reward is already on the way lol.

I do want to have work clothes that fit. I don't want to be walking around in baggy clothes for months on end.

I’m still full of a cold so holding off until next week I think. Does anyone here suffer with anemia? I’ve just had my bloods back & my ferritin is 4, so im worried this is going to affect it coming back up

bonnie199 · 03/01/2026 13:40

Is anyone else suffering with extreme side effects? Jabbed Thursday evening. Have just about got out of bed now, feel awful for my DC. Sickness, diarrhoea and complete lack of energy. Really reconsidering at this point. Hoping they ease quickly and I won’t experience this every week

Blandpedant · 03/01/2026 13:44

Oh no @bonnie199so sorry to hear you’re having a rough time. I got sent medications by my provider (Voy) in case of side effects (cyclizine for sickness and loperamide for stomach upset). If you contact your provider or GP would they be able to provide something?

bonnie199 · 03/01/2026 13:48

Thank you@Blandpedanti did take some anti sickness but that’s come straight back up. Just wasn’t expecting it I don’t think! Had very mild nausea yesterday morning and thought that would be the worse of it. Just hoping they get better with each week that passes.

goldylock · 03/01/2026 14:01

@Whatstfpoint
I 100% empathise.

I'm in Ireland. No help either from government/its not on drug payment scheme. So, full cost.

I had rang the pharmacy the day before processing the prescription and asked what the price was for 2.5mg of MJ. Her reply was, was I sure I wasn't enquiring about cost of 0.25mg? I assumed I'd make a mistake. She told me the cost.

When I went to pay yesterday evening (infront of her), when the price popped up on the till, I kid you not, I had to steady myself. I was just repeating "are you sure that's the price!?"

Yea, turns out she had cost quoted me for wegovy, which is roughly 1/2 the cost of MJ.

Anyways, I do need this (for myself) and I will find the payment for it some how, altho I promise myself I will draw the line at getting into debt for it.

I've a trip away end of April to Madrid (a tennis tournament) and I want to feel like me. Not the version of me who went last year and wore a bloody hoody to cover myself in the heat...

How odd I looked but I was that not feeling myself.

Whatstfpoint · 03/01/2026 14:14

@goldylock I do wegovy. I have lots to loose and prefer the slower approach as I need to figure out my life.

There is going to be a new 7mg dose of wegovy so I think sooner or later the effects of MJ and W will be the same.

goldylock · 03/01/2026 14:41

@Whatstfpoint The Wegovy and MJ each have a different active drug and their mechanisms of action work in different ways (MJ working in a double way on glp receptors in brain and stomach versus Wegovy, which now I know why MJ is double the Wegovy cost).

All worth a shot.

Sorry to hear you’ve been feeling rough, I hope things improve soon.

As my excess weight has piled on in a relatively short space of time, I have lots of clothes that I can’t fit into at the moment, and I’m currently wearing the same few things as I’ve refused to buy more in this size.

I don't think that's the reason for double the cost as the price rise was quite recent.

My point was that people on W tend to loose slightly less on average and that the new maximum dose will even this out as compared with M.

Splitunnoticed · 03/01/2026 15:28

Looking forward to second MJ dose tomorrow morning. The first week has flown by! 2kg down this morning. I’ve stuck to 1200 calories a day with 110g of protein and taking collagen and fibre powder in the morning. Lots of water. No side effects so far.

It so much easier to stay in a calorie deficit without any appetite!! I can cook for DC and not feel the slightest bit tempted. Last diet I did I was thinking of food and feeling deprived constantly.

Using a new magnesium cream on my forearms at bedtime and I’ve been knocked out for a full 8/9 hours which is amazing. Perimenopause has been a bugger for insomnia!!

blackandwhitefluffycat · 03/01/2026 15:45

I had insomnia until I started HRT; I slept through for the first time in over half a year the first day that I applied Oestrogel (and ever since)! That’s just one of the reasons why I’m worried about having to change to patches due to being on MJ, although hopefully they’ll be as effective for me.

2026istheyear · 03/01/2026 16:19

I’ve just sat down with a cup of tea post dog walk. I thought about having a biscuit with it and just didn’t fancy one enough to bother. This has never happened to me before!

Can I ask which magnesium cream? My sleep is awful.

My WG pen has arrived! Going to do first dose tomorrow, excited and nervous

Maybe for the UK (am not in the UK).

Ive since asked 2 different pharmacists differences and both individually have said MJ works on glp receptors and blood sugar. Wegovy on glp receptors alone. Explaining why MJ is more expensive. Different product.

As said, my point is, it's all to the same goal. Just different methods to get there.

Whatstfpoint · 03/01/2026 17:14

I'm very fatigued today even though I went for a long walk in icy conditions. I ate cake and was thinking of getting a second slice. I didn't thank god as I now feel so full I can't imagine eating for another week.

I noticed this feeling of fullness on the injection is different. I feel much more full than usual and for longer obviously.

Hi @ProblematicallyPorus - I’m using one I got in the Liberty advent calendar (called Verden Nocturne). I’ll look for a cheaper option once this is used up!

intentionals · 03/01/2026 18:20

Well I have felt sick all day and haven’t eaten yet - had my first injection yesterday. I think this is normal after looking into it?!

BooptotheFloof · 03/01/2026 18:37

I did it!!!! First dose taken!

Ironically I’ve spent the afternoon with my mother in law who has chosen today of all day to start a discussion on how awful weightloss injections are!

I did not join in!

My God there are a lot of instructions when you do it for the first time - it’s all common sense but when you are sneakily trying to inject yourself having bought in a massive box from the post - with no one knowing what it is and what you are doing

The stress of that was worse than the stress of injecting - which I barely felt and I’m wondering why I was so worried in the first place

So here we go!

blackandwhitefluffycat · 03/01/2026 19:06

I seem to be reacting the same as my DH, in that I don’t feel hungry but I can eat if I want - and I am, as I am keen to prevent gallstones, even if it means a slower weight loss.

It’s weird, not feeling hungry. I will normally finish what’s on my plate, as I never feel ‘full’, but I’ve found I can stop after a few mouthfuls and feel satisfied, as I’m not feeling hunger in the beginning.

I have told my family and one friend but not going to tell others I think. Part of me thinks it isn’t a secret and it will help people see that it isn’t self control eat less move more etc but I have decided I need to campaign for myself now and not the world at large

Any chance if could be a sickness bug? My Dad has just got over suspected norovirus and 111 told him there's lots of it about at the moment.

I hope you feel better soon whatever it is.
