Hi, my first WG pen is in the fridge ready to start on 1st January.

Im 56 (57 in Feb) post menopausal and cancer survivor in remission 5 years nearly. still taking cancer prevention medication that I believe that is hindering my weight loss. I just can't seem to lose it no matter how much I try. It took me 5 months to lose 10lb earlier on in the year.

Im 5' 8" so carry my extra weight well.

Day 1 post-first injection & it’s a bit of a strange feeling. Just not hungry at all, but no nausea or anything like that. So far I’m not feeling that “hunger drive” or “compulsion” - just “satisfied”. But I guess the weekend might be a bit different…..

Hi all,
Another poster dropping by from the Jan 25 start group to wish you well.
MJ is a miracle drug as far as I’m concerned, there are wobbles, doubts, moments and plateaus but overall I (along with I think pretty much everybody on that thread) feel and look so much better than we did a year ago. Some of us are on to maintenance, some of us are still on the losing journey, it’s not a race and we all have different stories.
The support and info on the starters group is great, you will also learn many random facts about each other along the way and it really feels like being part of a group of friends.

A little bit of advice, take a full length photo or two now even if you hate it, hide it away and bring it out later for comparison. Many of us are finding that we don’t have a ‘good’ before photo to compare as we’ve been so camera shy in the past. Also eat protein and fibre!

What a lovely post - thank you! And to the other poster from Jan 25. That’s great advice, thanks. I deleted the photo I had to send to the pharmacy as I couldn’t stand seeing it accidentally, but thinking about it, I will (hopefully!) regret not having one.

In idle moments I just can’t stop pondering how odd this sensation is. This absence of inner howling for food; no endless mental rummaging through drawers; being able to regard sweet delights with indifference; opting for fruit without feeling hard done by; this energy for doing.

Is this how easy it is for naturally slim people to remain slim, do you think? I’m staggered. No wonder fat people are so harshly judged for lacking willpower. If only they knew!

FrothyCothy · 15/01/2026 13:54

If anyone is on an iPhone you can hide photos so you only see them when you go into your hidden photo folder. I assume android phones have similar. Saves being confronted with the photos every time you open your photo section!

Whatstfpoint · 15/01/2026 14:06

I was NOT going to take a photo. What if I forget its there and someone accidentally sees it? But I think im going to upload one into my email drafts and delete from my phone.

For some people I guess it is. I knew someone who was very slim and said they had no interest in food and ate purely for fuel - they got no joy from it. Though I was slim up until a couple of years ago and that has never been the case for me - I’ve always thought about food (a lot!) and had to use a lot of willpower to stick to regular meals and not snack or eat to excess - I have never felt full in my life up until starting MJ! That’s why I still can’t get over how I feel now - I don’t think about food and even when my favourite things are right there, I can leave them without a second thought. I haven’t even thought about bread for two weeks which is a first, and I can make toast or sandwiches for my DC without craving it!

Hettar · 15/01/2026 14:23

I took my second jab this morning and just had a sandwich. I really had to push myself to finish it.

To anyone that hasn't taken their first jab, please don't stress too much. We all felt the same way. What made me feel better was knowing that I can stop anytime I want to if the side effects are too bad. So far for they've been manageable.

HollywoodTease · 15/01/2026 14:24

My MJ arrived this morning and is safely in the fridge.

I think I'm going to do my first dose on Tuesday when I get home. Tuesday would be a good day for me going forward too as it means I won't be risking immediate side effects on my frequent weekends away.

I've started calorie tracking today though, and weighed myself. 99.95kg, which gives me a bmi of just over 42. Eek!

Hettar · 15/01/2026 14:26

I've been discussing this with my wife, who is naturally skinny, and she says the way i feel about eating now is how she lives her life.

She eats when she's hungry but is the type of person that leaves a half eaten chocolate bar in the fridge! I couldn't understand this at all as what type of sociopath doesn't finish the whole bar 😁. I'm beginning to understand now.

Whatstfpoint · 15/01/2026 08:19

@recruitretain im a bit shorter but similar weight. Even on this thread I feel like a special case. It also brings home what a long journey it's going to be. I will probably need two years.

I'm a lot shorter, just 5ft2, and almost the same weight. You're not alone on this thread.

notcomfortable · 15/01/2026 14:48

I done my second injection today
Have been battling an ear infection for a week so haven't gone to the gym but I managed today! So that felt nice
Going to take my daughter on a long walk so that'll get the steps up
I also have two interviews scheduled for tomorrow after failing probation and loosing my job on Monday.
So please keep me in your thoughts and your fingers crossed.
My partner has said he will cancel the New York trip if need be as I just won't have money to enjoy myself but I'm hoping with another job offer I can get back on track so literally everything is riding on this!! X

We are gender reversed in my house - my husband is the skinny one! I'd say we do have different attitudes to food, but not completely black and white in our case. He has a terrible sweet tooth, but is all or nothing. If he goes long enough without sugar, he can not eat it at all, but once he has a slice of cake/bar of chocolate, it's back with a vengeance. Outside of sweet things, I think he probably is a 'food is fuel' type, but also gets very hangry if he hasn't eaten, so I think his metabolism works about twice as fast as mine does.

Good luck with job interviews. Fingers crossed for you.

Day 6 for me, I can feel hunger creeping in and fancied a chocolate before. I gave myself a talking to and had a chicken wrap and the craving went. I am definitely still feeling fuller quicker but the food noises are popping up. I find if I then eat something healthy I am still satisfied and filled up.

glutenisthedevil · 15/01/2026 16:02

@CatNoBag this is me and my husband. Mine's an absolute sugar fiend, eats mostly food from frozen, processed meats like sausages, picks at crisps in the evening, drinks fizzy drinks, and has a mostly sedentary job. However, when he comes home he's always up doing something, he'll go for the occasional run and he'll lift weights a few times a week. He never seems to gain weight considering everything he eats. I've always thought his metabolism must be as quick as a whippet!

HollywoodTease · 15/01/2026 16:13

Good luck nor comfortable, hope you get it!

Whatstfpoint · 15/01/2026 16:48

Does someone with a slim spouse want to ask them how they feel when they 'feel full' after a meal? I'd be really interesed. I think I know the answer.

For me full is when I really cannot eat anything anymore. I suspect for them full probably just means 'no longer hungry'. It's probably one of the things I need to retrain myself in. I want to keep eating until this insane feeling of fullness. Perhaps 'just not hungry anymore' would do it?

My partner is a gym buff
I weigh less than him
But he says he just stops eating
He isn't ever stuffed full to the brim but his mind just doesn't want to eat, he doesn't snack either which I find bizzare 😂

I don't understand 😂

CatNoBag · 15/01/2026 17:11

@Whatstfpoint & @notcomfortable - my husband takes about twice as long to eat as I do, which is to say I wolf my food down (lots of siblings) and he eats V E R Y slowly! He has always been a big chewer of food, but had cancer a few years ago and is even slower now as a side effect of the treatment (which also really affects his enjoyment of food some days, but he very rarely leaves anything on his plate, even if it nearly kills him in the effort). I think I eat so quickly I don't realise I'm full until 10 minutes after I've finished, so slowing down my rate of eating is something I'd really like to master! He would say he moves around more than I do, which is sometimes true, but other times not so much (I'm desk bound most days, he isn't as much but still spends a lot of time sitting). We both exercise about the same amount I'd say.

blackandwhitefluffycat · 15/01/2026 17:20

I’m a very slow eater (I’m always the last one to finish), but still never feel full (without MJ); I still feel hungry at the end of a meal! I only eat what’s on my plate though.

My husband eats what he wants when he wants, and is a fast eater, but it’s finally caught up with him as he’s got older! He’s been on MJ for a couple of months and has been losing 7lbs a week consistently (he has a lot to lose). He’s dropped to around 1000 calories a day, and is a foot taller than me, and a lot heavier, but it’s working well for him and he’s not feeling hungry either. He’s less active than me though - he doesn’t exercise.

notcomfortable · 15/01/2026 17:30

Sorry if it was me not making sense
Basically he he has his three meals a day and that's as far as it goes.
He says if he finds himself still hungry then he will have a bigger portion of lunch or dinner or bulk it out with veg
His breakfast is protein heavy which sustains him until lunch

But he was never a snacker, he would never reach for a biscuit
Whereas that's my vice and crisps and ice cream and anything chocolately😂

I’m like your husband - I’ve never snacked and just eat my main meals (and often not breakfast). I can’t remember the last time I had a biscuit or ice cream - I don’t like them. It makes the weight having piled on even more annoying!

No, I understand. I just wanted to express how... far that is from what I know.

greenspaces03 · 15/01/2026 17:57

I’m 5 pounds down and today is Day 8. I am meant to inject but will wait a few days and see if any suppression effect still in place on day 10

Tryingagainfor2026 · 15/01/2026 18:42

My appetite has returned and I eagerly went to get my second jab from fridge and seems I stored it to close to the back. It’s cloudy which means it’s frozen. It says you can’t use them if cloudy and it could be dangerous
i feel really angry at myself

please be careful with your pens
