Hi, my first WG pen is in the fridge ready to start on 1st January.

Im 56 (57 in Feb) post menopausal and cancer survivor in remission 5 years nearly. still taking cancer prevention medication that I believe that is hindering my weight loss. I just can't seem to lose it no matter how much I try. It took me 5 months to lose 10lb earlier on in the year.

Im 5' 8" so carry my extra weight well.
CW 13stone
TW 11 stone

Whose joining me on this weight loss journey?

My period started today (before it should, as I’m still on the progesterone patches!), so I’m hoping that will have had an impact. I’ll weigh again before dose 3.

Hi black&white

May I ask, progesterone patches?

Could you tell me a little more? Like, what it contains? Am taking oral Progesterone (utrogestan) and potentially looking for a different route of admin.

Hi, yes of course. I read on here that MJ affects oral progesterone (Utrogestan): it stops it being absorbed due to the slowing of the digestive system being how MJ works.

So I spoke to my HRT nurse and they said that I had to come straight off Utrogestan and move to patches, as the Utrogestan would no longer be absorbed anywhere near enough. I was taking two tablets a night for two weeks out of four and asked if I could increase my dose (as I’ve read can be done) but she said that I couldn’t increase from two and that moving to patches was my only option (or not taking MJ!). I’m sure the coil would be an alternative too, but I wasn’t offered that, probably because I originally refused it when a GP said I needed to go on HRT.

I’ve been put on Everol Conti patches in place of Utrogestan; these contain both progesterone and oestrogen. So I also had to stop using Oestrogel too as they said there isn’t a progesterone only patch.

Weight gain is actually listed as a possible side effect of the patches! But I don’t think it’s any different to with Utrogestan/ Oestrogel (I piled on weight when I started taking these).

For what it’s worth, when I was filling in the forms for my MJ (at Boots) I had to state that I wasn’t on oral HRT. It was flagged a few times in the process so they obviously consider it important. It said that absorption would be affected.

My oestrogen is the gel and progesterone the coil so am OK but if I was taking oral I would be going to the doc and getting it changed I think.

I'm feeling queasy again today after the second jab yesterday. Fortunately I'm not at work today but I have jobs that need doing at home and I just want to lie down. I've made some ginger tea which I'm hoping will help.

@Alltheyellowbirds

Thanks for the advice. I am due a new Perscription shortly, and so will mention then.

Hi everyone.

I've been accepted (by Bolt) this morning and my first batch of MJ is on the way.

I'm 5'1 and 16 stone so lots to lose.

Prompted by a diagnosis of high BP and pre-diabetes this week. 🙁

I travel a lot so sticking to the right day and time to do my jab is going to be challenging I think.

I'm away this weekend (Fri-Mon) and still undecided if I should wait til I get back for my first dose, I have IBS anyway (loperamide is my friend) and not sure I want to risk gastro issues on a 3 hour flight 🤔

All your comments are giving me hope though! 🙂

The pharmacy I’ve gone with - Medexpress - didn’t ask anything about HRT on their questionnaire and when I checked their FAQ it basically said to speak to your GP if you get any issues! I’d rather prevent them!

This is copied and pasted from their site:

“Can GLP-1 medications cause bleeding while on HRT?
Some people taking GLP-1 medications, such as semaglutide (Wegovy) or tirzepatide (Mounjaro), may notice changes in their vaginal bleeding. This can happen more often if they are also using hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Although this is increasingly observed, official guidance is still limited.

These changes might happen because GLP-1 medications slow down digestion. This can affect how your body absorbs hormone treatments — especially HRT taken as tablets, particularly oral progestogens. There don’t appear to be the same issues with hormone patches or intrauterine devices (like the Mirena coil). Weight loss and other body changes may also play a role.

This kind of bleeding is usually not serious, but it’s important to tell your doctor if you experience new, heavy or ongoing bleeding. They can check for other causes and may suggest adjusting your HRT or carrying out further tests if needed.”

Alltheyellowbirds · 14/01/2026 12:42

@blackandwhitefluffycat Im surprised they’ve put it in their FAQs but not mentioned it during the application process! Lots of people won’t read FAQs till later, if at all.

I'm curious whether you had any prediabetes symptoms? If so what were they? Thanks - hope you don't mind me asking.

CatNoBag · 14/01/2026 13:16

Hello everyone

Joining in if I may now that I've finally caught up with the full thread! I did my first MJ jab on Monday. I actually bought it in May last year but have been on the fence about using it. It expires end of Feb, so it was either throw money in the bin, or go ahead an use it! I've also signed up with Juniper going forwards, already had the first pen from them so I'm going to see how it goes on 2.5mg this month and either stay at that level, or move up to the 5mg they are planning on sending me and keep the extra 2.5mg in hand for when I want to drop down. I'm going to see how it goes each month, as although i have a fair bit to lose, I'm happy to do it gradually and hopefully build up some willpower for myself along the way for when I eventually come off.

SW: 14.5 (I've actually gained 4lbs since the New Year!)
GW: ~11st and see how I feel

I've lost and gained weight many times, normally I lose a lot in the first week or so, then tend to plateau, which is when I get annoyed and go back to my usual ways! I'm hoping the jabs will help me stay with it. I've had a few years of health issues and ended up needing surgery a few times, the last time included a total hysterectomy so I'm in full medical menopause and really struggling to lose weight at all (though luckily managing other symptoms quite well with HRT). I've managed to lose weight with a combination of diet and running previously, but it isn't happening as easily this time round. I was in the shape of my life about 5 years ago, but went from one problem to another, each one getting more serious, and each time I never quite got back to where I was before the next problem hit! I'm hoping this year I get to fully recover after a few shitty years with my physical and mental health.

I've been very worried about energy levels if I'm eating less as I do a fair bit of exercise, 2-3 gym sessions a week lifting weights and lots of running, some swimming and hiking, but generally sedentary outside of that due to work (which can take over my day as I'm self employed and WFH). But so far, if anything I feel I have more energy. Not sure if it's due to eating 'clean' (I haven't had any sugar since Sunday, trying to focus on protein and lots of vegetables!), and I'm drinking a lot more water (also think I'm feeling a bit thirstier, but I'm drinking a lot more so it isn't too bad) or that I'm no longer tricking myself into thinking I need to 'fuel my run/swim/gym session' etc. I haven't had much in the way of side effects, a bit burpy, not bunged up but possibly slower movement in that area! I've been logging my food on MyFitnessPal, which I always do when I start dieting, mostly to keep track of protein, but also good to be aware of calories (so far ~1300 a day). Eating similar to what I was before, but smaller portions, no snacking and lighter on carbs. My downfall is snacking WHILST cooking, but so far this week I've been able be in the kitchen without finding something to nibble on.

Anyway, I've rambled on a bit, so if you've gotten this far, well done! Thank you to all that have already been posting, it has really helped me reading through everyone's experience so far, especially those that are restarting after a break and can steady the nerves of us first-timers. I haven't told anyone I'm doing this, so it's nice to have somewhere to offload.

CatNoBag · 14/01/2026 13:16

Sorry, that was a bit of an epic even by my standards!

Exactly, I didn’t! If I hadn’t started reading this thread where someone mentioned it early on I’d have been none the wiser! I got my husband to double check that it wasn’t on the lists of medications/ conditions and he couldn’t see it either.

blackandwhitefluffycat · 14/01/2026 13:44

Welcome @CatNoBag I hope this year is better for you and that the MJ works well for you.

Hi, not really.

I was having blood pressure spikes over Xmas and new year, so headaches, pounding in my ears and extreme fatigue so I'm now on meds for that.

They wanted to do full bloods to make sure I'm on the right BP meds and it came back that my hba1c was 47 - diabetes starts at 48.

Prior to this I've always seen myself as fat but healthy, I guess the only real surprise is that it's taken this long to catch up with me!

I'm always a bit meh at this time of year anyway, but this year has been one of the worst so I've finally admitted to myself that I need to shift this weight and I need help.

I'm hoping that as I go along and my BP and blood glucose come down I'll have more energy rather than less, but at the moment it could go either way I suppose!

FrothyCothy · 14/01/2026 14:07

I know we had visitors from the Jan 2025 thread earlier in the week but I really recommend popping over to their latest thread if you’re feeling a bit wobbly as it’s really inspiring - that could be us 12 months from now.

Gym again today, hoping to keep up that routine - helps that DH is same boat as me so we are dragging each other out.

Me too. Booked in with my GP for a menopause review (im young to be peri so shes keeping a good eye on it) the other day, she is happy for me to remain on gel and coil for my hrt while on wegovy. She said if I were on other treatments (didn't have the coil when I started hrt) then we would have had to change

Oh, and the post a few pages back about how to treat yourself after losing the weight had me thinking... I already have a tonne of clothes I'm hoping will finally fit me (but I can have a big sort out to see which of them actually suit me/I'm likely to wear seeing as some of them were bought 10-15 years ago), but I'd really like to get properly fitted for my bra size again and get a refresh of day to day and sports bras (nothing exciting, my boobs are on the bigger end of the scale so having a good bra makes such a difference), possibly go short(er) with my hair and the real splurge would be Invisalign (I feel like my front teeth have gotten wonkier as I get older!)

FrostyFlo · 14/01/2026 14:52

I've decided to eat a kiwi ( skin on ) everyday because that is supposedly helpful to keep you regular ( tmi I've been twice today and it's normal )
Will take a multi vitamin & mineral tab daily that has Biotin in ( hopefully help with any hairloss that can happen ) try to drink a glass on Kombutcha , and will add ( only purchased today so not yet tried ) Nutritional yeast .

I have a few bits ive held onto in the hope of fitting back into them and lots that will just look better when I slim down.
Im hoping to not have a massive alteration. I dont think i look as fat as I am, so hoping for more of a "shes looking well" rather than a "who's yer wan?" 😂
I am looking forward to not hiding from the camera and looking in the mirror without feeling like shit about myself

I'm similar in some way - a lot of my extra weight is on my belly, so front on I don't look too bad, but my side profile is awful! I can cover that up to some extent with the right fitting clothes, but it would be so nice not to have to think about it! I've had my abdomen cut open and then keyhole a few years later, so that area is a bit of a mess. I'm hoping losing weight will help, but I think my bikini days (such as they were) are probably behind me.

Can I ask - did folks go and talk to their GP first, before starting? I considered it, but didn't in the end (mostly because I don't really have time). Now I'm thinking maybe I should have. I don't have any existing health conditions as far as I know, but what you just posted @HollywoodTease has made me wonder if I should have checked.

No. I would have liked to have gone and “had my bloods done” whatever that means and then had it done again in six months time to compare, but I wasn’t sure they’d do that for no reason plus it was over Christmas and New Year when I decided to go ahead so I knew they’d be rammed.

As I am so overweight ( change to obese ) I contacted mine to see if I qualify for it on NHS . I also have a heap of other things wrong with me and have to have medical yearly to check my bp , bloods , weight and medication. My last appointment for that was November .
We have to send a triage form to them and 95% received an email back with the answer and if a prescription will be sent to the chemist .
I received an online reply that I did not qualify but they answered my prempt question would they give permission for me to have it privately if the answer was no on NHS.
They gave it , so I went ahead .

ChilledProsecco · 14/01/2026 15:46

My prescription has finally arrived & I’m going to start tonight.

Any starter tips for me?
