Hi, my first WG pen is in the fridge ready to start on 1st January.

Im 56 (57 in Feb) post menopausal and cancer survivor in remission 5 years nearly. still taking cancer prevention medication that I believe that is hindering my weight loss. I just can't seem to lose it no matter how much I try. It took me 5 months to lose 10lb earlier on in the year.

Im 5' 8" so carry my extra weight well.

After a 10lb loss in the first week I’ve just done a mid week weigh in and have lost 0 so far!

I’ve been counting calories and have been eating 900-1000 a day, and exercising daily! Although I’ve always exercised daily, and I’ve never eaten terribly - I’m not a snacker. And my calorie count has never been that high.

I think I need to go a bit lower, as the appetite suppression has been high for me - I have been forcing myself to eat regularly because I know I should, not because I’m hungry. The popular Fast800 diet apparently has an 800 calorie phase for 2-12 weeks, so I’m thinking it can’t be terrible to drop lower temporarily…

Edited

I think this sounds way too little. I am eating about 1400, even though sometimes that is hard as I don;t fancy it, but I am losing weight. I wonder if your body is panicking because you;re giving it almost nothing. You don't want to stall your metabolism by starving - it won't be sustainable..can you eat a little more instead and maybe change up your exercising to try to get things moving? It sounds like a lot too little.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 13/01/2026 20:17

It's weigh in day for me tomorrow and for some reason I feel really nervous about it.

BG2015 · 13/01/2026 20:25

I'm sure that eating too little can stall your weight loss and make your body go into starvation mode. Anything under 1000 calories should only really be done under strict medical supervision.

Yes and the more weight you lose, your tdee will go down based on this so effectively you're eating less and less calories as time goes on which just isn't sustainable once off the injections

How tall are you? I am quite short and find that I need to eat a lot less than what I am told by the TDEE thing to lose weight - unless I have a particularly active week. Problem is it isn’t sustainable for me in the long term.

Definitely not as much appetite suppressant for me this week. Which overall I think is good because I am really trying to get the protein. Someone earlier in the thread said they are using a protein powder which I have copied and having in a smoothie. And now sitting down to another nutrient dense meal. Overall I would say week two is much better than week one 🤞

LilacPossum · 13/01/2026 21:27

Anyone else with a dry mouth?! I’m drinking squash like it’s going out of fashion, as well as cups and cups of herbal tea but I just feel so thirsty! My lips are also dry and I feel like my breath stinks- hoping I’m not alone!

FrothyCothy · 13/01/2026 21:40

Yes, I’m definitely thirstier - which is good as I haven’t been drinking near enough water prior to this.

Thanks, I did think that when I was trying to lose weight last year. However I put weight on at 1400-500 for the past couple of years since starting HRT, so it’s piled on 😩 So I have to go pretty low to lose.

5’6. Since starting HRT it’s piled on even eating around 1400-1500 a day, and being active.

I drink lots as I’ve always been a thirsty person (hot water and lemon, green tea, rooibos, black coffee regularly throughout the day), however I’ve been feeling even thirstier so have been adding cups of cold water in too.

blackandwhitefluffycat · 13/01/2026 22:32

My period started today (before it should, as I’m still on the progesterone patches!), so I’m hoping that will have had an impact. I’ll weigh again before dose 3.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 14/01/2026 05:48

I survived weigh in and managed to do my second dose myself. Which is quite impressive considering how much my hands were shaking.

I lost 3.2 kg (7 lbs).

I'm really pleased with that and hope the injections continue to work in the samw way. I've had moments of hunger but not strong enough to overwelm me. I've been hungry at meal times, once I can smell it, and have still enjoyed eating my planned regular healthy meals. I've had no desire to follow up my meals with a ton of chocolate. I never even really liked it, I just couldn't control it.

My husband was a bit worried about me taking the jabs because of the cost. Ultimately it's him paying for it for me. Now he's over the moon. Not because I've lost so much, but because he's seen a massive shift in my mood as a result of feeling in control. It's like a dark heavy blanket has finally been lifted off me. The weight loss is secondary.

It is really difficult when all mixed up with the hormonal stuff isn't it? I hope it starts to work for you again somehow. Do you have much to lose?

Etherealcelestialbeing · 14/01/2026 06:49

Joining late! I’ve been reading since the start of Jan but for some reason kept putting off ordering my first jab. I think I’m worried about having the mental energy to stick with healthier changes.
However - order is in. Hopefully my journey has started.
Thanks to all who are sharing - it is reassuring to hear your ups and downs.

BG2015 · 14/01/2026 06:51

I told myself I wasn't going to weigh myself daily but I just can't help myself. Official weigh in is tomorrow so I'm a day short but I've now lost 6.2lb in 2 weeks. It took me 5 months last year to lose 10lb so this is massive.

I only have 2 stone to lose and it will probably slow down the close I get. It's amazing

Weigh-in and second jab day!

Have had really good success since start of the year but I know it’ll be a big drop in water and sodium from the over Christmas period and then being much more mindful. But the MJ must be helping as I haven’t found it too much of a hardship. Despite this I will go up to 5mg after these 4 weeks.

January 1 2026: SW 93.3kg
Jab 1 SW 89.5kg -3.8kg
Jab 2 SW 87.5kg -2kg
Total weight loss: -5.8kg

Hoping to slow now to more maintainable level and up the exercise to keep lean mass. I am six months post partum too (doctor approved WLI as no longer breast feeding) so body needs some recomp help!

but really happy with year progress so far!

notcomfortable · 14/01/2026 07:15

Also got my period so caved and weighed
Injected friday
In 5 days I have lost 1kg
Its definitely a start!

Thank you. My starting weight on the 1st was 14.5, and I’m now 13.9.
I’d like to get down to around 10 stone.

That’s great, @BG2015 ! And @ThisAmusedPoet and @notcomfortable !

I am waiting now this week as I’ve read it can take a few days to drop the water weight after starting your period.

bec81 · 14/01/2026 07:56

First weigh-in this morning.
SW: 81kg
TG: 55-60kg (well see when we get closer to the target, probably on the lower side to allow some movement coming off)
CW: 77.8 kg
Loss: 3.2kg

Wahoo. Delighted with that as a start as I haven't found it particularly hard

Me too. Thirstier than a thirsty thing! I’m usually a camel.

Whatstfpoint · 14/01/2026 08:51

Im down 5lb so far. I feel fatigued and have stocked up on the vitamins and electrolytes. I think it might be a side effect.

3rd dose today. Im not sure I will increase in two weeks. I have to lose about half of my body weight and it's relatively easier to fall into a calorie deficit. This past week I have had a feeling of fullness I didn't have before and I still have it on the day before my next jab. I could continue like this.

Last night I ate two pieces of dark chocolate and felt satisfied. Didn't even debate eating more. It feels great.

Whatstfpoint · 14/01/2026 09:00

Im weighing every day too and am logging it to establish a trend. Mostly because I will probably stall around my period due to water weight and get frustrated. So I can pull out my chart and look at the downward trend and calm myself down.

I weigh every day too. Like to see the overall trend.

I had 2 social food events, dinner with the in-laws and brunch with the girls, last weekend. I managed both of them fine. Tomorrow night I'm due to go out with my work team for pizza and beer. This will be trickier to navigate, usually id get a few pints of 0.0% beer, using January as an excuse, but i don't want to be sipping water and not eating. No food option other than pizza, its just a pizza truck in a pub. Hmmm
