Hi, my first WG pen is in the fridge ready to start on 1st January.

Im 56 (57 in Feb) post menopausal and cancer survivor in remission 5 years nearly. still taking cancer prevention medication that I believe that is hindering my weight loss. I just can't seem to lose it no matter how much I try. It took me 5 months to lose 10lb earlier on in the year.

Im 5' 8" so carry my extra weight well.

Do you guys in the UK get support with your weight loss or are you on your own once it's prescribed?

I'm in Sweden and it my region it's only prescribed as part of a full weight loss programme. So I have a dietician who I had weekly appointments (online) with and a 12 week online workbook. Now it's once a month contact. Once I'd done a few weeks I was eligible to book in for blood testing and a dr's appointment to get my prescription. So now I will have regular appointments with this dr and the dietician throughout my weight loss journey.

FrothyCothy · 08/01/2026 15:47

There are options that offer support but the place I ordered with I’m on my own. Your system sounds good though!

Popped to Tesco for some snow-provisions just in case and resisted my absolute nemesis - the meal deal!

blackandwhitefluffycat · 08/01/2026 16:01

I think with the NHS prescribing it there would probably be something similar but with my private provider I’m just getting support/ advice emails every now and again and am left to it. Which suits me.

Well done Frothy!

Day 7 of my first jab here and I still have appetite suppression, which is helping me to avoid bread which is not good for my body - I haven’t had any in a week, and haven’t missed it! I want to cut that out long term apart from very occasionally if I’m out and options are limited (which would be very rare). I’m not feeling full as quickly though.

My calf is much better today, just a very slight ache. Thank goodness, as I was worried I’d have to come off MJ after a week!

How are you today @BooptotheFloof ?

ProblematicallyPorus · 08/01/2026 17:02

I'm with VOY, I'm really impressed with their support and coaching. The app encourages you to log food, offers feedback on how to make your meals more nutritious and balanced, encourages weights to maintain muscle mass. I had some questions around dosage and side effects and was in touch with a clinician within an hour via instant message.

Blandpedant · 08/01/2026 17:10

I’m really impressed with Voy too. It’s not cheap. But you get a great app, food logging, clinicians on hand, and unlimited 1:1 video calls with a coach/dietician. Their AI bot is brilliant too for coming up with recipes!

BG2015 · 08/01/2026 17:35

I'm with Juniper and I'm very impressed with them. The whole process was very thorough.

I got digital scales, a tape measure and sharps box with my injections. There is an app which links to the scales and an AI bot which is excellent. Theres lots of stuff on the app too, videos, recipes etc. They also have a closed Facebook support group.

If anyone needs a code just DM.

I’ve used Bolt for my prescription and while their website tracks weight, there’s not much else.

But I have downloaded the GlucoPal app to monitor everything properly including side effects and food logging etc and I’m really pleased with their picture/bar code scanning and the AI tool for nutritional information for what I am eating.

Topsyturvey10 · 08/01/2026 18:18

I’ve done my first injection this evening and felt obliged to eat a healthy tea (one of those new M&S meals) and drink lots of water. It’s didn’t hurt at all and I did it in my stomach.

I wonder if I’ll have an upset tummy because I ate at least 8 Quality Street this morning at work🤦🏼‍♀️ The appetite suppression and loss of
food noise can’t come quick enough.

I used Pharmulous, there doesn’t seem to be any additional support but they were super quick to dispatch and very reasonable.

I got some RenPho scales from Amazon that has an app for weight tracking.

Blandpedant · 08/01/2026 18:21

I suspect I’ll need different things at different times. In the first month I’m finding the Voy extras really helpful (and tbh honest I can’t quite understand how they afford to offer unlimited 1:1 support to everyone!) But a few months down the line I’ll probably want to switch to a medication only supplier

ThisAmusedPoet · 08/01/2026 20:11

Day one - felt pretty much normal. I’m not sure if it was purely wishful thinking but it did seem easier to stick to the calorie goal today. Stuck to high protein, whole foods and drank a lot more water and peppermint tea and feel pretty good. Son asked for a biscuit and I didn’t scoff one myself - but again, not sure if that was the MJ at work or just a bit of renewed energy toward being better about my food choices!

sleep deprivation with two kids proving a lot to deal with on top but tomorrow I’m going to use the crèche at the gym and try a little resistance training.

trying hard to build good habits and make it a whole life change!

noticed some chatter about trackers - I’ve used Happy Scale in the past but would love any tips on others?

MrTiddlesTheCat · 08/01/2026 20:15

Some of these sound similar to what we have in Sweden. The difference being that in my area the region (a bit like your nhs trust) pay the subscription. I only have to pay for the jabs and blood tests.

BG2015 · 08/01/2026 20:35

Took my 2nd jab after lunch today and apart from feeling freezing cold from about five minutes afterwards for about an hour, I've got zero side effects this time. Nothing.

Really full after my evening meal. Had a couple of satsumas instead of a biscuit and no desire to eat anything else.

Day 1: Injection 2.

Administered after dinner. Dinner was a bit spicier than I thought it would be and I bloated up (I would normally), so hope I don't suffer for that.

First injection, it was around bedtime when the appetite suppression feeling kicked in.

Lollywillowes · 08/01/2026 21:13

@intentionals I'm in the same boat. Due second injection on Saturday but the catalogue of side effects are really putting me off:
Was sick on day 2 and headache for two days
Diarrohea that smelt like a volcano had died on day 3
Day 4 felt less nausea grazing
Today tasted stomach acid after a piece of toast for breakfast and am now sitting on sofa after dinner at 7 feeling like it's sitting in my throat. Ate a quarter of the kids cheese toastie and I think that was a big mistake.

Overall I just don't feel "me"? I miss the food noise - the excitement about what I'm going to eat, I feel like a bit of my personality has died. And I hate the anxiety about eating - am I going to feel ill again?

FrothyCothy · 08/01/2026 21:35

Are you on MJ @Lollywillowes ? Maybe it’s just too much too soon - would Wegovy be a better fit?

Lollywillowes · 08/01/2026 21:58

@FrothyCothy thanks for your reply.
Not sure... currently standing in the kitchen with terrible bloated stomach. Throw PMT in the mix and I'm an anxious indecisive mess.

How are you today @BooptotheFloof ?

Glad your calf is feeling better!

I’m still bloaty! But there no pain now so I think this is just my version of the side effect

I definitely ate more quantity wise today and increased my protein and fibre (eggs nuts and seeds) I still am struggling to eat a sensible amount of calories

I am bulking dinner up with loads of veggies - but then I input it all into MyFitnessPal and it turns out I’ve eaten nowhere near enough again but I am definitely eating healthy if just not enough

I couldn’t eat more though especially at dinner and I’m worried about overdoing it and throwing up

I also just realised that I’ve been so busy at work I probably haven’t drunk enough today

I’m due my second jab on Saturday evening but we are away and I am so worried about an adverse reaction I am going to have to push it back to Sunday when we get home

I genuinely don’t feel like I’ve lost any weight at all - I took photos last week and again this evening and shape wise I am still the same - I am determined not to weigh until Sunday

Hoping my bloated stomach might deflate by then …. Or I might just spontaneously combust 😬

Did my second jab this evening too. Feel a bit queasy, but it’s been a horribly stressful day, so I don’t know if it’s the jab or the stress making me feel like this.

BooptotheFloof · 08/01/2026 23:23

Those of you on HRT - I was hoping to get an appt with my GP but I’ve been unable to get an appointment this week - I already started on the MJ

I am on utrogestan tablets and evorel patches - I was told by the online pharmacist to double up my dose of utrogestan to avoid the lack of absorption if taking MJ - but I feel like I’m am going behind my doctors back

I hope to be able to see a Dr next week or at least get in online consult - I am on the verge of saying if I can’t do both I would rather drop the HRT which is crazy as I am a totally different person to 12 months ago ….. but I am also 2 stone heavier!

It’s been a tough week! Actually haven’t felt too sick but I think that’s because I had no appetite and didn’t try to force myself to eat. However today has been different - and it’s the day before my next jab so think it has gone past the “peak”. No side effects today and felt properly hungry at points. Didn’t push it too much on the food front and had a plain chicken sandwich for dinner. So perhaps you will be the same way tomorrow?

I think, absent anything happening tomorrow, I will do the next injection. The side effects have been awful but I have also kind of noted some triggers and avoiding them worked. So if they come back I should be better able to keep them to a minimum 🤞

i think for me a big part of what I need to learn is how to eat more regularly so I don’t suddenly realise I am starving and eat all the carbs. I would say that’s about 70% of my weight gain - not eating all day then realising I am starving and getting a McDonald’s because it is quick and easy

My HRT nurse said I absolutely couldn’t increase my Utrogestan - I was on 2 tablets a night for two weeks every two weeks. She said they don’t absorb anywhere near as well and that I had to go on patches. I told her what I’d read online about increasing the tablets and she said that was not an option where I am.

if you’re on evorel anyway can you change to the evorel combined patch, which is what they put me on?

I couldn’t get an appointment but I told the receptionist I had just started taking Utrogestan that month and I’d read there could be a problem with absorption while on MJ and the HRT nurse called me the same day for a telephone consultation, and sent a prescription for the combined patches straight to the pharmacy as she thought it was important - she said to swap straight to the patches when I got them, even though I’d already started taking the tablets.

My provider didn’t ask about HRT at all but I went through their FAQ and their advice is to just see a GP if issues occur! Which doesn’t sound right.

I find oestrogel so much easier; I can have long hot baths when I want, which I’m missing! But I’m preferring the progesterone in the patch as the tablets really dried my body out and I’d wake with eyelids glued to my eyes!

I’m glad your pain has gone.

cravingmilkshake · 09/01/2026 07:07

It’s second jab day for me today . No side effects this week . I have been so stuffed i have skipped breakfast every morning and had a large lunch and a small dinner around 5 (with the children) . No snacking . It’s also taken away all my cravings for any alcohol , so no booze either.

I’ve weighed every day since New Year’s Eve to see the trend - looks like an 8lb loss in the first week .

my friend who was also on it lost 7.5lb first week but then from the second week , evened out to a steady 3-4lbs .

I am happy, and I am prepping to jab again this evening .

Good luck today everyone and I hope you all go into this weekend happy and healthy .

blackandwhitefluffycat · 09/01/2026 07:41

Dose 2 done here. I didn’t feel anything whatsoever and only knew it had actually gone in because I bled a little this time!

Dewberrywotsit · 09/01/2026 08:07

Injection 2 will be this evening - I have lost 6lb. I have been eating pretty regularly and almost completely wholefoods so not starving myself, therefore imagine this is some first week water weight although also drinking a LOT of water. Still I am happy with it and expect it to lessen to say 2 lb a week moving forward to be honest. Don't want to go too fast and get MJ face! 😂Injecting before bed tonight. Appetite supression less yesterday evening and craved some crisps which made me feel a bit sick, also ate pretty massive dinner, so will be careful today to eat moderate and protein heavy so that I'm not too sick tomorrow??
