TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 29/11/2025 12:34

Well, some of us are new, some of us are nearly at our goal weight and the rest are still in the trenches.

Everyone is welcome here. This is a safe and supportive space for people with a lot of weight to lose.

Sorry I've had really busy weeks at the moment so many things to remember for the kids. We've all been under the weather with coughs and colds we just cant shake. I feel like one of us has been woken up coughing for 2 weeks now!!

I've been having some perimenopause symptoms for the past year and figured they'd just tell me I'm too young as I'm 42. Instead I had a nice not rushed consultation with the GP who started me on some HRT. Hopefully it helps.

With all of the above I've maintained this week

Weigh in number 59
SW 21st 9lb (BMI 44.7)
CW 14st 9lb (BMI 30.0)
GW 12st 9lb (BMI 25.9)
0lb down this week
Losses so far; 4, 1, 5, 1, 3, 4, 2, 2, 2, 4, 1, +3, 5, 1, 3, 2, 4, 3, 1, 1, 3, 1, 1, 3, 3, 1, 1, 0, 2, 3, 1, 2, 2, 0, 1, 3, 1, 1, 2, 3, 1, 3, 1, 0, 1, 1, 2, 2, 0, 1, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0, 2, 1, 1
Total loss 98lbs / 7st 0lb

Lds1 · 04/12/2025 09:03

So after a few weeks of tiny losses and a gain, this week I've lost a kg. I don't know if this is a new pattern but at least I've lost something this time.

SW: 142.8kg / 22 stone, 6 lb and 13.1 oz
CW: 74.8kg / 11 stone, 10 lb and 14.5 oz
Total loss: 68kg / 10 stone, 9 lb and 14.6 oz
BMI: 59.8 / 26.6

To get to healthy: 4.7kg / 10 lb and 5.8 oz
To get to target: 14.8kg / 2 stone, 4 lb and 10.1 oz

Lds1 · 04/12/2025 09:09

Also if I could lose another 3.4kg / 7 lb and 7.9 oz, then I would be at a 50% loss and literally half the person I was, which is weird! That's my next target but it's going to take forever!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 04/12/2025 10:34

Are you taller than average @WafflingDreamer
(Sorry if I've asked you that before)
Your weight and BMI do suggest that you are.

WafflingDreamer · 04/12/2025 10:37

Yeah I'm tall, I used to be 179cms which is 5ft 10.5 but when I went to clinic last year my height came up at 176.5 which is 5ft 9.5 so I've gone with that currently which is still taller than average

TragicMuse · 04/12/2025 10:43

Y’know. It never occurred to me that my WI day doesn’t have to be jab day! So I’m changing my WI day to Saturday.

Mind you, I was supposed to jab last night and got distracted! So I’m doing it tonight. But it’s fine, I wanted to shift my day a bit anyway to not be at full suppression on Christmas Day, principally because I do find it harder to cook when in that fully suppressed state, and I enjoy all the Christmas cooking! I’m not worried about the actual eating of the meal itself, just the cooking!

I mentioned earlier that I was thinking of moving to 5th day anyway and now here I am at 8th so who knows what I’m doing?!

Anyway! WI! Saturday! 😆

Yes. I've also got shorter (well, everyone does!)
My younger DD is your height though.
I've got two tall sons as well, and one DD who was my previous height 5' 5" until I shrunk to 5' 3"

DD1 loves being taller than me now.

If I was still my old height, my BMI would be almost normal now.

@WafflingDreamer so close to that 100lb!!! Rooting for you! Drink the hell out of water this week! You've done amazing to hit that 7 stone.

@SilenceInside I completely agree with that article. I have never felt (psychically) better, mounjaro seems to have cured my IBS and also my mood* and energy hugely improved. I was more productive at work because I felt stronger and more energetic. Also exercising etc. So the article doesn't surprise me at all! And with people reversing their pre diabetes, no longer needed cpap machines etc of course there'll be less visits to the GP. I went from 39 to 31 in 6 months on mj for my HbA1c.

(I am not here for depression. I had a psychotic episode)

I wanted to share something about my mental health actually. My team are now having a discussion about the mj and I’m a bit worried but they do agree it has changed my life for the better and my health. However. The current thinking is perhaps my episode occurred because of the way my antipsychotic was metabolising in my body with the changes from mj. I have to take it with 500 calories of food at dinner time and when my psych gave me the go ahead to try it at Easter the risk had been formally labelled as 'moderate' when mixed with my antipsychotic (which is a fairly new and rare one). So now, weight loss combined with slower digestive tract is making them wonder if that's why my episode has seemingly sprung out of nowhere, even though I was taking my meds every day.

My eldest is only just turned 10 and she is gaining on me fast, shes probably up to my chin now! Shes taller than a lot of her friends parents and some of her teachers 🤣
My most frustrating thing is changing clothes size so slowly. I was mainly wearing size 22 at the beginning and now 7stone later I'm down to a size 18. I carry lots of weight in my hips and thighs though.

mamabeeboo · 04/12/2025 10:59

@GnomeDePlume You're doing so well and congratulations on the gym session! You must have felt great, when is the next gym visit?
I don't think you can expect much change in the scales when you start a new exercise schedule.

When I started C25K, I didn't lose weight for 4 weeks!!!! And I was livid. I posted on here basically saying I don't want to do C25K if the scales aren't moving because the motivation is failing. But I persevered and week 5, 6, 7 I suddenly had huge drops, despite eating out and potentially not being in a calorie deficit (at least not prooportional to the weight I was losing).

Chat GPT will tell you why you might gain/maintain when exercising. Blood is pushed to the muscles, water, hormones, all sorts. But its all a lie! 😂

Ah, that's really interesting about the exercise, I wonder if that's why my scales seem to have stalled? I'm on week 4 of couch to 5k so starting to ramp up the runs, that could explain why my loss last week was less than it has been...

TragicMuse · 04/12/2025 11:19

Also, you generally can’t out-exercise diet. Running is HARD! And yet a 30 minute C25k full run will only burn 200-500 calories. That’s not as much as it feels it should from the effort required!

I don’t exercise much but when I do, I don’t eat back exercise calories - it’s too easy! And exercise isn’t a reward that allows me extra, I do it for itself (rarely!).

ConfusedMiddleAger83 · 04/12/2025 11:19

My victory of the day is that I looked back and am now the same weight I was in Jan 2020 right before the pandemic. Covid did for me in a lot of ways, stopped commuting and all the associated movement and piled on the pounds at home. I have also had suspected long covid. Psychologically to be back before all that started feels really good and I can push on from here now.

On the downside my acid reflux is still a real problem, days like today I end up just sitting on the sofa as it eases when I am sitting or lying down. I am waiting for an endoscopy appointment and the GP wouldn’t prescribe anything to help till after that so I’m just on over the counter meds, she did say I could take the esomeprazole twice a day but that doesn’t seem enough. I am not even allowed to chase up the appointment until it gets to January. Am eating the blandest dullest food also.

mamabeeboo · 04/12/2025 11:31

@RenegadeKeeblerElf 100% keep going! I've built up quite a lot of strength now in my muscles, I'm physically feeling my metabolism increase, as I'm having pleasant surprises on my scales despite eating a bit more. I'd definitely recommend pushing through. And realistically, running can't be bad for you in any event, we are all here to become healthier 🙂

@TragicMuse I agree with you, running is so hard for the calories it burns! And absolutely not eating back my calories, worked too hard!

mamabeeboo · 04/12/2025 11:49

So a question for everyone - tomorrow, I'm meeting my best friend for dinner.

We are getting there for 8pm and waiting at the bar (the earliest I can do), and table is booked for 8.30pm (the only reservation they had). I'm getting very nervous.

I don't want to order a 300cal cocktail at the bar. And realistically by the time we sit down, have our order taken, we will only eat for 9pm. Last time I ate that late,I felt hungry all day and sick all night with the food sitting in my stomach for ages.

What to do?

This was my plan, but also my worries:
I eat early dinner at 4pm.
I will order a diet coke at the bar - killjoy.
Eating a starter at 9pm - killjoy x2 and will watch her eat the rest of her meal.
(alternatively order a main, and pack it up? I haven't done that before)

Help!

SilenceInside · 04/12/2025 12:00

@mamabeeboo ordering a non-alcoholic drink is not being a killjoy, surely? Your friend is not going to care if your drink is alcoholic or not, I'd have hoped. There is a third option for food, which is order a main and eat some of it and leave the rest. I tend to eat the protein and veg part and leave carbs if I do that.

Or, fourth option, order a starter and ask for it to come at the same time as the mains?

I'd also suggest, ordering a low cal alcoholic drink if you do want alcohol, and if you'd rather have two courses get a starter for both.

Fffreeeeezing · 04/12/2025 12:31

@mamabeeboo why don't you just have a later lunch and eat with your friend at 9?

I have to admit I don't think 9 is that late as I eat my dinner most days at around that time but I know other people don't seem to like eating after 8 for some reason, we're all different!

I don't drink and would have no problem ordering a soft drink, even pre MJ

mamabeeboo · 04/12/2025 12:48

I'm happy to drink on mj but is it weird to be in a swanky place drinking a diet coke at the bar? Genuine question because I feel a bit out of place. It's not about the alcohol, it's the calories. Because the mocktails or cocktails would be very sweet and calorific.

@Fffreeeeezing last time I ate late I felt quite sick with the food sitting in my stomach all night (maybe it was the fact I ate fish and chips rather than the time!) I'm also usually asleep by 10pm 😂

just trying to think of ways to eat less without making it seem like an awkward meet up. Some of the suggestions are really good, thank you! I'm going to check the menu beforehand and decide my order that's high protein and leave the carbs.

I'm definitely not the person to "enjoy the night" because my mindset will crumble and it will turn into a 2 week mental battle with getting back on the horse.

SilenceInside · 04/12/2025 13:02

@mamabeeboo there must be lots of people who are driving, or who don't drink alcohol for various reasons. I don't think the bar staff would think anything of it, nor would other people there if they even noticed. A swanky place is mostly about the atmosphere and the setting rather than the specifics of who is drinking what.

There are lower calorie drinks, gin or vodka and tonic, rum and diet coke and so on. Brut champagne is low in calories too, so maybe a champagne cocktail would do. But definitely nothing wrong with a diet coke either.

flipent · 04/12/2025 13:21

@mamabeeboo the difference I've found with MJ is that I can enjoy and night without having to drag myself back to the 'diet'.
It's been the biggest revelation to me. Enjoying one night was previously always my downfall, which then made the whole process unsustainable and destined to fail every time!
On MJ, I'm living my life, making better choices and enjoying the odd night without getting derailed or disillusioned.

TragicMuse · 04/12/2025 13:22

I’m also going out tonight so I will be trying to strike the balance between ordering what I will enjoy and not going mad.

I’m driving so will have an alcohol-free drink and I know I’m choosing something entirely unwise. I’m planning around it and I don’t think I’ll finish it. I’m going for a main because I’d be worried that a starter might not be quite enough and then I’m at risk of falling into pudding! But I’m totally at ease with not clearing the plate…not everyone is.

GnomeDePlume · 04/12/2025 13:30

@mamabeeboo why thank you. Next gym session is tomorrow morning. My plan is to go 3-4 times per week, starting at 6am as DH heads off to work at that time. I'm not expecting the gym sessions to increase weightloss of themselves, more to generally get myself moving. I have lost 6 stone and now need to get in better shape.

@PearlTeapot mounjaro definitely impacts the absorption of medication as well as the weightloss itself. Mj slows digestive transit but eating different things can impact as well.

My thyroxine prescription has gone down but my warfarin prescription has gone up plus my related blood tests have become much more variable where previously they were very stable.

I hope your healthcare team are able to find a solution which works for you.
