December 25 starters thread?

Is there one yet? If not, should this be it? I’m starting tonight, so officially November, but hey! Am so nervous, woke up early this morning with anxiety. Would love tips from anyone who has started before on what / how to eat on first few days..I’m really concerned about debilitating side effects- should you just listen to your body or force yourself to eat chicken?! I keep seeing all these insta posts about eating protein!!

@cobblers00 I would treat this as your December 25 thread and keep posting to it so that it stays visible to attract new starters.

I started in July 2024, a while ago now! I would say just listen to your body and just try to eat healthily and see how you feel. People seem obsessed by protein at the moment, it's definitely a popular trend. Most adults with a decent diet in the UK will be eating enough protein. The difficulty might come if you find your appetite is much reduced, as eating less overall will mean less protein. So, I tend to eat the protein part of a meal first so that when I become full, it's the carbs that I leave rather than the protein, if that makes sense.

I’m starting as soon as my pen comes - so this weekend I hope. Thanks for the thread. Feel unprepared but had a great talk with my gp yesterday who told me to go for it so also feeling tentatively excited. Lots to lose.

Chopsy123 · 28/11/2025 16:25

Try not to worry. The very first time you jab is scary for everyone but watch a couple of videos and take your time to follow the steps. You’ll be grand.

Make sure you keep twisting the pen fully to the number 1 and that you can see the little window on the top of the pen when you inject so you can see when it goes all the way back to 0. My first time, the window was underneath so I had to get DH to squat down to check. 😂

I’m on the September starters thread and have lost almost 2 stones so far (27lbs) and Fridays are my jab day. I almost forgot to jab today and your thread reminded me, so cheers for that. 👍

ArtesianWater · 28/11/2025 16:29

I'm also starting this evening and also concerned about the first jab! I'll join your Dec thread OP.

cobblers00 · 28/11/2025 17:11

Oh great, I’m not alone. I’m thinking light dinner soon then jab later tonight- is it best to eat first/ after though??! I’m not so worried about the jab itself, more once it’s done.. what if I’m one of the v rare ones who is very ill on it??!! I guess it’s rooted in fact I’ve sourced it myself from pharmacy, although ‘prescribed’ it’s not through a doctor.. I know I’m eligible being 3 stone overweight but feel I’m taking an ‘unnecessary’ risk in a way. I imagine these feelings are normal. I literally get physical anxiety when I think about doing it. Just need to get first one done then will feel better! Good luck @Margaritawithlime& @ArtesianWaterpls let me know how you go!
thank you @Chopsy123for advice too

Yes im not one for supplements really.. but I do like carbs & junk food (hence I’m this size!) & don’t have willpower to cut them out or have small portions so hoping this will help with that.

I started in November this year and was very nervous - about everything. Now 3 jabs in I can't remember what I was nervous about. I've had pretty much zero side effects so far - touch wood!

The threads are very supportive.

FWIW I ate my dinner at about 7 ish then jabbed about 10 pm

tobee · 28/11/2025 17:35

Ooh yes, drink lots of water!!

StrongGirlsLift · 28/11/2025 18:48

Hopping on for December with a Voy order on the way. I lost 16lbs this year on low carb, but picked up a knee injury a couple of months ago which has been very painful and impacted my training. That plus a lot of work travel and I regained 11lbs. Feeling so frustrated - I have gained and lost this weight so many times over the last 15 years.

Am hopeful for WLI! This knee injury has been a reminder of the impact of extra weight on my joints, and I am hoping to lower my blood pressure too.

Good luck OP and all!

cobblers00 · 28/11/2025 20:36

Ok first jab done. Now anxiously waiting to feel sick!!!

Hope you feel ok overnight and tomorrow! Looks like my delivery is due tomorrow morning, hoping not to miss it while I’m out for an appointment 🤞🏼

FlibbertyGibbitt · 28/11/2025 21:40

Week 7 here. Lost 12.5lb so far. I take lots of supplements, collagen, pumpkin oil, extra vitamins etc. I count my calories, and every time I inject I watch a h2 on YouTube. I’ve never lost so much weight during SW etc. it’s bloody brilliant!

FlibbertyGibbitt · 28/11/2025 21:41

And I bought all sorts of stuff after seeing posts on FB, stuff for constipation, Gaviscon etc, not needed it !

My order arrived this morning, and I just took my first dose. Scales were up again this morning - I hope soon I won’t be dreading every weigh in. 🤞🏼

Margaritawithlime · 29/11/2025 12:27

First dose taken! All ok so far (three minutes after :) )

cobblers00 · 29/11/2025 12:40

So I woke up this morning feeling fine.. few waves of anxiety keep kicking in but no real physical symptoms.. had my usual coffee, a much smaller portion of Greek yogurt & berries - wasn’t really hungry but often aren’t in the morning, however after my dog walk I am usually ravenous & today i really am not- i have just had to force myself to cook an omelette- 1 egg, mushroom & cheese, have had 3/4 of it but not sure if placebo or the jab, but I’m not going to finish it.. I’m worried about eating too much & feeling sick so stopped eating it.. but it’s not a hard decision. It’s all very weird, I get the usual thoughts drift into my head, like- oh some chocolate would be nice now, but I have no inclination to act on it. Not sure how much is anxiety driven though- whatever, I feel fine so far & have eaten way less than I usually would have by this time on a Saturday!! Would love to hear how others get on this first weekend!

I’d also say do your TDEE calculator for your calories for your height and weight, and I’ve now got nutracheck which is fab, much better than my fitness pal to count your calories. Good luck, you’ll be amazed on how you do 🥳

@cobblers00 Yes, what you’ve described about not being bothered to finish a meal or not feeling temped by your usual snacks is how most of us discover that the WLI are working. 😊

Edited

Yes weigh ins are almost a pleasure now! 😊

StrongGirlsLift · 30/11/2025 09:44

Tobee, I can’t wait for that feeling! Even on VLCD it’s always nerve-wracking - as a veggie I find it so hard to do low carb, and all that effort takes all my bandwidth to maintain. thanks for the ray of light on the horizon!

is anyone else doing starter measurements? I have tracked waist, thighs, and upper arms.

cobblers00 · 30/11/2025 11:31

Have you had any side effects @StrongGirlsLift? Day 2 & I’m still
feeling fine… banana for breakfast & just forced down half a high protein wrap with prawn & avo as feeling a little light headed after gym.. this is a worry as I love HIT workouts & worry I won’t have enough fuel to do them now.. also aware it’s all about the weights apparently - @StrongGirlsLiftassume with your UN you are lifting already..? Any tips? I do body pump classes but struggle motivating myself in gym on free weights etc.
This is all just such a weird process- the food noise is there - in fact I am constantly thinking I must eat but I just don’t want to!

OP posts:
StrongGirlsLift · 30/11/2025 15:52

@cobblers00 glad to hear you’re feeling ok so far! I had a pretty quick change to my hunger/food noise feelings; normally it is a major effort not to eat everything in front of me or go for seconds, but I haven’t finished a meal since the jab! I can hardly believe it. I dashed out to the gym this morning and trained fasted, had a protein shake and couldn’t imagine eating breakfast, so I took it with me to the kids’ training and managed to eat it over the course of the morning. So then I wasn’t hungry for lunch and managed half a sandwich. Is this what it’s like for other people? Amazing.

I have been a bit gassy with mild burps, much like early pregnancy but thankfully without the associated heartburn.

I’m a big fan of HIIT too, but haven’t trained HIIT in a while. I started weight lifting two years ago after an injury and oh my word, it has changed so much for me - no daily back pain, far fewer injuries in my main sport, and I was getting faster and much more powerful. Alas, I tore a ligament in my knee a couple of months ago, so I have been rehabbing and working around it since then - I am no where near being able to squat again yet. I’m a convert though, I do recommend it.

Start easy, use an app like Hevy to track workouts and progress. Be aware that sometimes you can train and not feel too bad, and then feel like you’ve been hit by a truck the next day (I’m hyper mobile, so easy to go beyond the proper range of motion). Start with dumbbells and machines and progress to bar bell if you fancy it. Everyone I have met has been so friendly, and I watch older women bashing out pull ups with complete awe and admiration. Being able to pull up would be a huge non scale victory for me! So much easier when you’re lighter.

And take creatine! It helps build/maintain muscle which is so important for women, especially in rapid weight loss.
