New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All very welcome, whichever part of the journey you are on.

We have newbies and those who have got to their targets and lots of us in between at various stages, all supporting each other along the way.

Nothing is off topic and progress photos always welcome, encouraging us all to keep going!

No discount codes please - there is a separate thread for that.

I’m experimenting with shifting my targets from weight loss to building fitness

Moving from weight loss to building fitness is the part I am most looking forward to! It's my exit plan from WLI.

I'm not a serial dieter, in fact only ever once before consciously tried to lose weight - and to do that I took up running in a big way, alongside clean eating. I lost 8st (this was in 2017).

My reason for mentioning this is that my ultimate downfall was my struggle with the cognitive dissident needed when trying to both cut calories to lose weight, and fuel for improved fitness and exercise, both at the same time.

So this time, even though I love running, I'm not exercising. Because I know when I do, I'll start having to do that mental gymnastics of cut vers fuel again. So I'll wait until I'm BMI 25 and titrating down MJ eating more, and start building up by running as a maintenance plan. I cannot wait!

YellowStockings · 25/01/2026 08:23

Week three weigh in

SW 111.05
CW 106.6
Total loss: 4.45kg

Short term GW (mid-March): 100
Long term GW: 80 (maybe less if it's possible - I think I need to get to 72 to hit "healthy" BMI but I'm not sure I've ever been that light, even when I looked very slim)

Took my fourth dose of WG last night, I've decided to stick to another month of 0.25 but if I start stalling I will double dose and order a 0.5 a bit early. I quite like that I can eat three small meals a day, and still feel like eating, but I am getting fuller much faster and finding it so much easier to resist the less healthy things I'd otherwise be gravitating towards.

A nice NSV: because of all the water I'm chugging I'm sure my skin is softer / clearer.

YellowStockings · 25/01/2026 08:27

@Questions1234 that's so nice of you to say. I'm finding this group so helpful and encouraging!

I'm also on the big group of January starters but there are people on there whose starting weights are less than my goal weight so it's nice to have a space where people get what it's like to need to lose a significant amount (and have shown it's possible).

eleanorwish · 25/01/2026 09:31

i took jab no 50 on Friday, my 2nd at 15mg of Mounjaro. After stalling and gaining over the last month, I’m finally starting to lose weight again ( about 3lbs in the last week). I hope my body doesn’t get used to the highest dose too quickly.
Highest weight ( Oct ‘23): 16 st 6lbs
Starting weight on Mounjaro: 15 st 3 lbs
Current weight : 11 st 7 lbs
Goal weight: 9-10 st
NSV I can finally fit in my size 16 jeans - had to wait a while for the belly to catch up with the hips!

InfoSecInTheCity · 25/01/2026 12:14

@eleanorwishI find whenever I have a stall it’s time to do a bit of a back to basics review.

  • Have you checked your TDEE at your current weight, your calorie allowance reduces with your weight so you may need to eat less calories to stay in deficit.
  • Are you drinking 2 lts of fluid a day
  • are you getting enough sleep (bad or little sleep buggers up your hormones and causes hunger, and slows down weight loss)
  • could you move more, a 20 min brisk walks after your main meal helps break down glucose and boost metabolism
  • have you introduced some kind of exercise. If your muscles are aching then they are in need of healing, that process uses water so your body will retain it to save for that. Boost your water and have rest days
  • Is your mix of foods good, are you having plenty of protein, fibre, good fats and choosing low GI/seeded/wholegrain carbs.

Generally in my case it’s water and sleep that are causing the issue. On a good day I get 5 and a half hours sleep and congratulated by my I’m having a bad patch it averages at 3 hrs. I always forget to have water, automatically veering to the kettle to top up my coffee so have to actively prompt myself to drink like a sensible person.

@GiveMeWordGames
🎉🥳🍾👏🎊WHOOP WHOOP, HIP HIP HOORAY!

@alltablenochairs and @AmberLime amazing losses!!

I wonder how much we combined have lost if we were to add it all up? At rough guesstimate I’m guessing the equivalent of an 11 a side kids football team, it’s got to be something close to that because we have several people who are close to 10 stone lost, a handful who are in the 5-7 stone range and a good few in the 2-5 stone lost.

UnimaginableWindBird · 25/01/2026 14:25

I've just hit the 3 stone mark, which feels pretty good. I got a bit detailed by Christmas, partly in terms of food but also sleep, so I tackled the sleep (I am very much in agreement with @InfoSecInTheCity on the importance of sleep) and the food fell back into place and I'm now 4lb under my pre-Christmas weight which means I have lost 20% of my starting weight!

SecondCircuit · 25/01/2026 23:08

@UnimaginableWindBird - congratulations; and btw you are my WL twin.

After a looong sine wave of gaining and stalling over Christmas period and beyond I have also finally reached my first goal - 20% of my SW. This 3 st loss has taken me 4 months but it’s only half way as another 3 shed are needed.

I m not exactly happy with how I look though. I don’t know, I probably expected to emerge exactly how I was 20 years ago when weighing 80kg…

Those two saggy sacks are not mine.. this wrinkly turkey neck is not mine…

Was hoping for a slightly overweight Liz Hurley and got a cross between an inflated duck and lactating monkey.

So bought a pair of 2kg dumbbells. The words gym and yoga induce a headache so dumbbells it is for a start.

eleanorwish · 25/01/2026 23:17

@InfoSecInTheCity, yes, I have had to reduce my calories by about 100 at my new weight. I’m sure I’m getting enough fluid, but sleep is the big issue for me, blooming menopause! It’s been getting a little better lately but I’m lucky if I get 6 hours a night. I also know I need to up my activity levels, I must admit I’ve been struggling with motivation. All I want to do is hibernate at the moment!

SecondCircuit · 26/01/2026 07:34

To those struggling with sleep. I am a huge advocate of HRT (if menopausal).

I didn’t have any other symptoms: no mood swings, no hair loss, no hot flushes, but oh boy - I could not sleep and nothing helped.

First, I started waking up at 2, 3am and after an hour or two was able to return to sleep. But it got to the point when I would wake up at 3, and that was it.

No amount of sheep counting, visualising sea waves, dolphins, forests or prancing fairies helped. Occasional night like that fine, but three, four, five in a row over prolonged period of time and I was half dead, irritable and very, very miserable in the end.

I was wary and stupidly resisting HRT.
No need. It helped almost immediately within the first 10 days, and after two years I am still sleeping like a baby.

I know everyone is different and it might not help everybody. But if you haven’t yet, try it. You may have your life and sanity back.

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 26/01/2026 11:58

Have done! Thanks @RobinEllacotStrike and @InfoSecInTheCity

I have wondered if my new increase in running schedule has lead to my recent stall but at least I am now back to my pre-Christmas weight of 10 stone 1lb /141lb / 63.9kg. Only 3kg / 6lb to go which seems to have been the case since November.

maz99 · 26/01/2026 20:45

Yay... lost 1.8kg / 4lbs since my last weigh-in 5 days ago

I switched to jabbing 5mg (from 10mg pen) every 5 days 2 weeks ago - was previously jabbing every 6 days (dose = 6.25mg).

Except I took the 2nd one a day early, 4 days after the previous one - I've recorded that as 7.5mg!
I'm going to stick with 5mg every 5 days until I finish the 10mg pen.

Starting weight (kg): 121.4
Starting weight (lbs): 267.6

Current weight (kg): 106.4
Current weight (lbs): 234.6

Total loss (kg): -15.0
Total loss (lbs): -33.1
Average Loss (kg) -0.7
Average Weekly Loss (lbs) -1.4

I started fitness a month before taking MJ (at that point I hadn't even considered it), because I knew from prior experience of losing alot of weight (lost 50lbs in 6 months - low cal dieting) that the result isn't as great. Plus, I wanted to reduce the possibility of loose skin as much as possible.

Loving reading everyone's updates and losses - I'll need the inspiration when I get back on Saturday! It has been 3 lovely weeks of relaxation, but too many crisps and glasses of sangria - I'm determined to snap back into my routine from Saturday evening, but preparing for depressing scale news on Sunday morning....

I'll start a new thread as soon as we get to about 995 posts too!

Couple of questions from me in the meantime...

@InfoSecInTheCity can you say again what your getting back on track process is re: the 3 days? Is it eating whatever you want for 3 days, minus carbs - and does that include cheese, as I have acquired an addiction to Emanthal..?! I need to re-set somehow asap.

@RobinEllacotStrike I'm really interested in your posts about yoga - I think my height has shrunk over the years, with weight gain and bad posture, etc. I was wondering what the difference is between yoga and pilates - having done neither - which would be better for a complete beginner, who is very inflexible?! I want something that's good for me, but that I might be able to do?! Does each give different benefits? Obvs I'm going to google, but it's always better talking to someone with experience and I don't think any of my friends do either!

Excellent whoosh @maz99 and that's gone fast, @MooBaggage !

I pushed jabbing back a day to today as I'm shuffling things around to accommodate a lot of work travel over the next week or so. I am, however, ignoring the number on the scales this morning because DH made the SALTIEST meal last night (he used powdered veg stock and reduced it massively, then also added worcester sauce, I mean JFC it's a good thing MJ keeps my BP down 😂) and it's whacked 1.5lbs on me so bugger that. Let's just say I'm still at 11st 10, shall we? 😉

MooBaggage · 27/01/2026 09:47

@GiveMeWordGames I'm all about ignoring the number on the scales! My process is to weigh every day and take the lowest number each week as my weight - because the small changes up and down drive me bonkers and make me too depressed - so each week I record the lowest weight of that week! If I eventually start putting actual weight on, it would show over time, when the weeks themselves would show me getting heavier, but as long as I know I'm doing OK, I'm taking that lowest weight as the truth 😬

100%. I actually find daily weighing more relaxing, for want of a better word, than weekly because I can clearly see the patterns and how full of speed bumps the road downwards is. If I weighed less often and happened to hit a day like today on "weigh day" it would be a bit demotivating.

I know others feel differently eg because of dieting history and not wanting to become fixated but it definitely works for me.

RobinEllacotStrike · 28/01/2026 17:55

@MooBaggage I've only done mat pilates at the gym so I'm not sure I can really compare.

While some of the moves are similar, for me yoga is mind, body & soul & pilates didn't cover all those bases (for me).

One of the beauties of yoga is most classes (though do check first as you don't want to wander straight into an "advanced" class) accommodate all levels. When I started at HotPod Yoga I could barely touch my toes. So you bend your kness - you learn/are taught the modifications. And its just as beneficial for the body who does a forward bend with knees bent and can't touch toes, as it is when you can forward bend & stand on your hands. This means I am going to the same classes now after 350 classes as I was in the beginning - though my moves/ability has greatly improved the classes are the same - all levels.

With regular practice you can progress fairly quickly, but its more about turning up& doing the practice. by "turning up" I mean to class, or at home using a video. Turning up for yourself.

On the <ahem> constipation front, those who suffer might know I push 🥝🥝 two kiwis daily as a way to stay regular. But I have moved onto the most awesome homemade musli type thing that I've been eating with greek yoghurt and some fruit. Wow amazing. I think its the quinoa pops, and flaxseeds but its working so well. If you are interested i lightly toast a mix of the following: rolled oats, quinoa pops, all the nuts, flax seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and then add raisins chopped apricots and any other dried fruit to hand. Beware the dried cranberries though - delicious but 40% sugar & oil. I get most ingredients from lidl & make a massive batch.

YellowStockings · 29/01/2026 12:59

I've also been weighing daily since I started (but only recording my 'official' weight on Sundays). Hopefully I can eventually move to weekly weighing but for now I'm finding it quite useful.

I've definitely noticed a bit of a slow down this week, despite not changing how much I'm eating. I've decided to stick to another month at 0.25, but I'm wondering if I should take it every 5 days rather than every 7 days, just to have a bit more progress and start getting my body used to having more in my system...

YellowStockings · 29/01/2026 13:00
