@WeAllHaveWings I made chicken and rice soup recently, the rice tends to take up liquid, but does freeze ok. I just added more stock before doing so. It was declicious. I made it with leftovers from a cooked chicken and rice from the day before. Cooked the veg, added stock and at the end added the chicken and rice

GiveMeWordGames · 13/01/2026 17:31

@RobinEllacotStrike a whole load of my size 20/22 clothes just went up into the loft for the same reason. I have been throwing things out but it's mostly been stuff that was knackered, or that I never really liked that much in the first place.

WeAllHaveWings · 13/01/2026 17:38

Might give it a go then next weekend @AnneinEdinburgh when my freeze tubs are freed up from the lentil soup. What type of rice did you use was it just long grain? I cannot remember what my mum used but I thought it wasn’t long grain. She always boiled a whole chicken then put most of the meat back into the soup so it was a pretty filling meal!

AnneinEdinburgh · 13/01/2026 17:44

@WeAllHaveWings I just used easy cook white long grain. If it wasn't cooked already then I would have cooked it in the stock. Similarly if I hadn;t had cooked chicken I would have cooked that with the veg and stock too

InfoSecInTheCity · 13/01/2026 19:56

I’ve managed to get a lovely looking silverside beef join cheap in Morrisons today, off to London for a couple of days tomorrow morning for work but planning on sticking it in the slow cooker Friday morning with a heaping load of veg and making up a big batch of chilli or casserole for the freezer and lunches. I love cooking a beef joint till it just falls apart into strings of tender goodness. I add absolutely heap loads of mushrooms, onions and peppers to really bulk it out and make it tasty then tinned tomatoes, carrots and seasoning. I’ll get 6-8 portions depending on how much veg I add.

dimples76 · 13/01/2026 20:26

With the chicken soup you could try substituting the rice with pearl barley.

Getting back into my exercise regime this week and feeling better for it.

I have received my first wegovy pen. I have 1 dose left of mounjaro before I switch. Feeling nervous about side effects and whether it will work as well for me. That said I am a lone parent who works part time so I really can't afford to stay on mj. BMI is down to 34 from 46 but obviously still a long way to go.

AnneinEdinburgh · 13/01/2026 21:03

@InfoSecInTheCity your beef joint reminds me its ages since I made salt beef. Marinate it in a salty pickle mixture for a couple of days and rinse and boil. Serve with saurkraut and gherkins yum.

QueenOfHiraeth · 13/01/2026 23:22

I am struggling to get back onto the straight and narrow. I think I'm just too busy and stressed to get my head in the right place at the moment but fingers crossed soon. Luckily Christmas naughty bits all gone now (never buy praline nuts from Costco!) I'm frustratingly close to getting to a "normal" BMI so need to stop farting about and get there.
I'm going to reduce my dose slightly as, paradoxically, I seem to find things harder on 15mg than on slightly lower doses. I think I maybe confuse vague nausea with a need to eat.

Hi @dimples76 I’ll be joining you in about 4 weeks. First wegovy pen in fridge & just on my last MJ pen! Also nervous but no option!! Good luck and we’ve got this!!!

Seahorsesplendour · 14/01/2026 09:28

Also struggling to get back on it post Christmas!

Lots of stress here too @QueenOfHiraeth so I sympathise! 💐 this morning after a really tough evening & rubbish nights sleep I am literally waging war against myself!!

my emotions are demanding a comforting breakfast of white toast & the MJ is defending its territory and denying permission!

leaving me unable to face eating full stop !!! 😬😬😬😬

hoping the day gets better from here!!!

dimples76 · 14/01/2026 20:00

@Seahorsesplendour what doses are you switching to and from? The highest on mj I have been has been 7.5mg but I am currently on 5mg (to save money) and I am starting on 0.5 on Wegovy. Fingers crossed it is onwards and downwards with Wegovy for us both.

YellowStockings · 15/01/2026 14:45

Have you seen this? A friend just sent it to me. Looks like WG are really trying to compete with MJ?

Hi... I am still here
I've been meaning to come and say Hi, but life has been busy

My weight loss is ok.... I did enjoy myself over xmas... I didn't exclude anything, but I didn't go crazy - e.g. mince pies, only 1 tub of Quality Street for me & my daughter, instead of 2 tubs and loads of other sweets.

My weight has been up and down 2kg from mid December to last week. I am still taking 5mg, but for the last 3 weeks every 6 days from a 7.5mg pen.

I want to go up to 6.25mg even though I do still have suppression, but I realised that I need to increase my dose if I want to effectively treat my insulin resistance and improve my blood sugars.

I switched to every 6 days because I didn't want to take 6.25mg from the 7.5mg or 10mg pens I have and end up with odd amounts leftover.
So I used the advanced information on the dose calculator website to work out how to increase the amount of MJ in my system without using more mg. (Fat Old Climber explains this in one of his videos).

5mg / 7.5mg / 7 days - Mounjaro in system: High: 7.22, Low: 3.67
5mg / 7.5mg / 6 days - Mounjaro in system: ⓘ High: 8.07, Low: 4.68
5mg / 10mg / 6 days - Mounjaro in system: ⓘ High: 8.07, Low: 4.68
6.25mg / 12.5mg / 7 days - Mounjaro in system: High: 9.28, Low: 6.04

So... a smaller step up to the next dose than a jump to 6.25mg

Week 1: -0.7kg / -1.5lbs
Week 2: -1.3kg / -2.9lbs
Week 3: -1.2kg / -2.6lbs
Week 4: -0.4kg / -0.9lbs
Week 5: -1.1kg / -2.4lbs
Week 6: -1.3kg / -2.9lbs
Week 7: -0.3kg / -0.7lbs
Week 8: -1.5kg / -3.3lbs
Week 9: -0.9kg / -2.0lbs
Week 10: 0.0kg / 0.0bs
Week 11: -0.9kg / -2.0lbs
Week 12: -0.8kg / -1.8lbs
Week 13: -1.4kg / -3.1lbs
Week 14: +0.3kg / +0.7lbs
Week 15: -1.5kg / -3.3lbs
Week 16: +1.1kg / +2.4lbs work xmas party!
Week 17: -1.0kg / -2.2lbs day before xmas eve
Week 18: +0.8kg / +1.8lbs
Week 19: +0.3kg / +0.7lbs
Week 20: -1.0kg / -2.2lbs

I'm going to try and catch up on everyone's post now :)

Seahorsesplendour · 15/01/2026 21:04

@dimples76 sorry for the delayed response!! Busy week!!!

im on 12.5mg MJ and swapping to 1mg of wegovy. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

very nervous but really have no choice!!!

goodluck!!

Sam187 · 16/01/2026 17:51

@dimples76 and @Seahorsesplendour really intrigued to see how you both go on wg. I was considering the switch myself. I'm on 7.5mg and finding it working really well so far. Unsure if I should take the financial hit or risk it with the move.

Seahorsesplendour · 16/01/2026 19:04

@Sam187 few more weeks till I swap but I’ll update the thread once I do!!

dimples76 · 17/01/2026 08:10

Thanks @Sam187 . Mounjaro has been working well for me and my only reason for changing is the cost.

I have found another way of economising though. I have been having weekly sessions with a personal trainer for the last 18 months but he told me yesterday that he is changing careers. I am really going to miss our sessions. I don't think that I will look for a new PT. I go to a local authority gym too and I have booked a 1:1 there next week to review my programme. Before I started working with my PT I would never have ever imagined that I would go to the weights area and check my form in the mirrors!

It's four months until I turn 50 - I am on a bit of a mission with that in mind. I am hoping that I can get to a BMI under 30 by then.

Sam187 · 17/01/2026 08:47

@Seahorsesplendour thank you!!

@dimples76 it's been working great for me too, with no side effects so I'm loathed to change. If I do, it would be for cost reasons also. In the meantime I'm switching suppliers most months to take advantage of discount codes. That sounds good economising re: PT. With 18 months of it under your belt, I'm sure you feel much more confident in the gym anyway. Good luck with the goal.

I'll be 40 in 6 months (cry 😭) and feel similarly. I'd like at least another 2st off by then, which would take me under 30 BMI too!

MooBaggage · 17/01/2026 08:53

Awwww @Sam187 you are so young!! I'm a bit envious, but mainly happy for you that you'll get to spend so much of your life as a fit, healthy woman 😊 I'm 57 in a few weeks (always 18 in my head, obvs) and am grateful that I'm rescuing my body now, but sad I have always been obese as an adult... but you can only go forwards, so best we just get cracking and living our best lives right now 😃

I’m in my late 30s too and also feel sad that these medications weren’t around when I was in my 20s - but trying to be grateful they’re here now. My sister has been obese her whole life and is much older than me, she has had cancer and struggled with the recovery from surgeries due to her size. I wish she could have benefitted from these meds, I’m sure it would have made a huge difference.

Re cost of MJ vs wegovy. If you take smaller doses from higher dose pens, the cost per dose isn’t much different. Especially when you consider the efficacy of Mj vs wegovy.

YellowStockings · 17/01/2026 09:08

@TaffyTabby @Sam187 I'm nearly 38 and it's quite exciting to think that I might hit 40 looking and feeling amazing! It feels like a good, realistic goal to aim for.

Bunnyjo · 17/01/2026 09:21

Hi all,

Well done on both the weight loss and NSVs - it really is uplifting and encouraging to see, especially through the dark winter months.

As DH and I are both on MJ, the cost isn't cheap - we are fine with it currently, but I have to be honest and say that switching to Wegovy is something we have both talked about. At the moment, we are reluctant as MJ is working so well, but it's something we will probably visit again in the future.

SW: 15st 5.5lb
CW: 12st 5.5lb
Loss: 42lb
Current BMI: 30.74
Target Weight 1: 12st 2lb (overweight BMI)
Target Weight 2: 10st 2lb (healthy BMI)

So, I feel I should be proud of hitting the 3st mark, but I've been on a bit of a 'Debbie Downer' with myself. I still see someone fat in the mirror - my DH says that's a me thing, but I'm not so sure - I'm still technically obese after all. Moreover, I feel a bit ashamed that the fat person staring back at me was 3st heavier not that long ago. I guess I feel angry with myself for wasting my 30s and most of my 40s by being obese and not tackling it long term, and that's where my shame lies.

Sorry for the doom and gloom, maybe those of you who are further along than I am can assure me these feelings are normal, or maybe you can kindly tell me pull myself together and not dwell on what cannot be changed...

Sam187 · 17/01/2026 09:47

@MooBaggage I'm actually having real dread about this year's birthday, so thank you for calling me young haha! I know what you mean, glad I'm doing it now, but similarly to what @TaffyTabby said, wish it was around for all of us so much earlier. Anyway we're working with what we have now and that's the main thing! Hope your holiday is amazing moo.

@TaffyTabby and @YellowStockings what an excellent goal we have ahead though, going into our 40s the best version of ourselves.

I'm going shopping today - my size 18 quiz jacket has given up on me, it's super big even with a hoodie, hole in pocket, letting water in and now the zip has broken. I'm going to be brave today and try some 16s in both jackets and the M&S magic jeans. Pray for me that my self confidence doesn't get destroyed by the high street 😂

GiveMeWordGames · 17/01/2026 10:45

Aw, @Bunnyjo I recognise those feelings completely. I (53) would love to rewind to my early 30s and not start the slow relentless weight gain which landed me where I was when I started MJ. I'd like to love pics of me from my 40th and 50th birthdays and, yes, sometimes I'm angry with myself about that. But like Moo says, we can only move forwards and I suspect in ten years time I'll be even angrier with myself if I waste what I've achieved by losing my joy in self-recrimination and looking backwards. Much better to revel in how good I feel and look ahead. Well done on hitting 3 stone loss - you've done brilliantly! It's going to take a while for your eyes to adjust but you've got this and you'll get there. You're so close to getting out of the 30s in BMI!!

I have a new NSV to share. My clothes take up less space! I have a small, hand-luggage friendly case for work travel and suddenly I'm not struggling to fit everything I need in for more than a couple of nights. Revelation!

ALSO. For lovers of Fage 5%, I've discovered Sainsburys have their own 5% strained yoghurt and it's a pretty good dupe. It's not officially Greek, which is why it's never shown up in my searches when I'm doing the online shop. I found it by accident. It's quite a bit cheaper. It's always irritated me that you can get own brand 10% and 0% Greek stuff, but not 5%.

QueenOfHiraeth · 17/01/2026 10:51

@Sam187 I know the M&S bootcut jeans are lovely but I have always had the Magic Sienna jeans which are straight leg, not skinny, and look good so keep an eye out for them too.

On the subject of age, you are all young! I am 65 and, while I would have loved to be slimmer sooner, I don't think I'd have done much differently in my life (and probably couldn't have afforded MJ when younger) so I just focus on gratitude for my health, family, friends and the chance to do this now. Lots of friends and family in my age group have health issues so I'm just looking at the here and now :)
