New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All very welcome, whichever part of the journey you are on.

We have newbies and those who have got to their targets and lots of us in between at various stages, all supporting each other along the way.

Nothing is off topic and progress photos always welcome, encouraging us all to keep going!

No discount codes please - there is a separate thread for that.

I reckon I’d jab a day late but also just eat slowly. And choose lean protein and lots of veg. It’s a buffet, right? So I’d refill plate while it’s still half full, just adding some more decoy veg so it looks like I’m going up for more but actually not really.

Then in the longterm family will have to get used to the new reality that you’re a slim, healthy person with a small appetite who eats for health.

I love the term 'decoy veg'!
I also tell people 'I have bad stomach acid at the moment' to explain why I am not drinking much wine. Of course, this month is dry January, so that's very helpful!

Crikeyalmighty · 09/01/2026 12:36

@MooBaggage you look totally fab by the way . I look ‘similar’ - weigh slightly less than you now, but bmi slightly more . However I started at 4 and a half stone less than you, so I know what it takes - I’m doing it without WLI too ( didn’t agree with me) but sticking to those mounjaro principles. If you didn’t lose much more you would still look and I’m sure feel so much better

@GiveMeWordGames Yay!!! That's great news - I've been hoping it would be, so that's brilliant! Definitely onwards and downwards in 2026 now 😃

Is anyone else thinking about holidays for this year (says she, going away tomorrow for 3 weeks...!). I keep booking bits and bobs - am going to my favourite place, North Norfolk, in late June 2026 and keep wondering what size I'm going to be then - hopefully down a size - and therefore what clothes I'll need to order on Vinted...! 😄

there were pictures yesterday of filiming of the new Strike series at Cromer Beach (North Norfolk). They were filming a swimming/beach scene that occurs in the book in the summer. Not sure if they have moved it to a winter scene or if they will use TV magic to make it look summery, but I feel for the actors who must have been frozen to the bone especially the actress in the water. yikes!

Also I saw a great hack for those of us that feel the cold. Use a long handled cotton tote as a hot water bottle holder - put hottie into bag, handles around your neck & zip up your jacket. No one will know .....

@GiveMeWordGames Great news!

@Crikeyalmighty @YellowStockings I am another "eat well but too much" person. I think because I have never eaten shite, my progress has been slower than many here, although I am also older (mid-60s) and less active (roughly at the level of a slug) which might also explain it. Despite that, after 18 months of MJ and consistency, I am 6stone 4lbs down Smile

Ooh well done - I don’t have as much as that to lose and not using WLI ( did 6 weeks at beginning) but like you I think I am a littler slower (2 stone 4 in 8 months) partly because of age - 64 , partly because apart from 1 dance class a week my excercise levels aren’t great , although I don’t drive so do walk a lot and partly because eating clean wasn’t such a shock to
my system - I can see if people have been eating/drinking 2500 to 3000 cals a day of not great quality and suddenly eating clean at 1000 to 1300 will give very quick results- not so much when you’ve been eating maybe 1700 to 2200 of good quality food and the weight just ‘creeping up’ over a lot of years

YellowStockings · 09/01/2026 18:19

@QueenOfHiraeth amazing! That is so inspiring.

I'm expecting that my progress will be slower than some others for exactly the reasons you and @Crikeyalmighty have outlined. I also really need to increase my exercise levels, I did the NHS 'how healthy are you' quiz and I got a nine out of ten (!), the only recommendation was to move more which I 100% need to do.

alltablenochairs · 09/01/2026 22:19

Absolutely going for the decoy veg idea- yeah, it's a buffet we are going to so I can at least pile my plate sky high with salad. Having been a vegetarian for 35 years+ I can at least use the 'I like veg' excuse.

Tentatively thinking about holidays for this summer- I'd love a hot tub with a hoist. Ohhhhhhhhhh yeah! In terms of other breaks I know there are a few of us on here who are carers to children/young adults with complex needs. If you're in receipt of carer's allowance/carer's credits or you're caring for your child for more than 35 hours a week and have someone to endorse it, have a look at a charity called Carefree Space. They donate unsold hotel rooms for those in need of a break. For a small admin fee (think its currently £39) you can get up to 2 nights in a hotel. I've stayed in some lovely places doing this- one hotel even gave me an evening meal 'compliments of the manager' and a different one upgraded me to a suite.

SW 111.1kg (Jan 2025)
CW 94.8kg
Hi everyone,
I've not posted for a while as I have been on a plateau for the past 6 or 7 weeks. Completely self-inflicted as xmas seemed to start earlier this year, with various catch-ups with friends, meals out, trips away etc. So not really surprising that my weight loss stalled. Having said that, pre-MJ, I would have just given up - now I feel able to keep going, and just think of it as a blip.
Lovely to read all your updates and your successes help motivate me.
Before MJ, I mostly refused to be in family photos etc, but this Christmas I realised that I am actually starting to not mind how I look in photos, and no longer shudder when I see myself in photos.
I still have fairly long way to go with the weight loss. My next mini-goal is to get under 91kg - as I haven't weighed less than this for about 15 years. Hoping it won't take me that long to get there!

MooBaggage · 10/01/2026 07:57

I'm jetting off to sunny climes today for 3 whole weeks, so weighed this morning as a final check in and am 1lb down:

SW 13.1.25 20st 3lb BMI 43
CW 10.1.26 13st 11lb BMI 29.3

So, 90lbs off and it's the closest weigh in to my 1 year anniversary on MJ, so I'll take that!

Over the next year, the aim is to lose another 32lbs taking me to my final goal of 11st 7lbs, which will give me a BMI of 24. Will hopefully see that by the Autumn and so by this time next year, should be in the process of tapering and maintaining.

I love reading everyone's updates - I agree with others that it really does help keep us all going - we are all demonstrating the art of the possible, despite challenges like pesky Christmas (and long holidays!) - normal people put a few lbs on and then lose it - and that is actually us now..!

Onwards and downwards 🥰

Have a lovely holiday Moo☀️

Questions1234 · 10/01/2026 10:38

Have a lovely holiday @MooBaggage!

I hit the first of my ultimate goals today - waist less than 50% of height. I want to say it feels amazing, but actually just surreal! I’m still not sure what my ultimate weight goal is - my BMI is still 26.5, but I don’t want to end up looking scrawny (what a consideration - never ever thought that would be a body image worry for me 🤯🤯).

A reminder to all newbies to measure alongside weighing… the scales have held just about steady for me over the last month (which is an achievement in itself), but I lost a whopping 1.5 inches off my waist, and an inch off each of my hips, thigh and arms.

Bunnyjo · 10/01/2026 12:57

Have a lovely holiday @MooBaggage

We have a couple of holidays booked - one in May half term and the other in October half term and I cannot wait to go away and not resemble a beached whale, like I did last time we were away.

Don't think I've said this, but my DH is on MJ too. He started just after we got back from holiday having slowly lost weight to that point. At his heaviest (2022), he was 22st, when he started MJ he was 18st and he's now 15st 2lb, which is the lightest he's been since his mid 20s. Like me, he thinks that MJ is a game changer as it has just shut the food noise completely down. He has struggled with weight all his life since being a teen.

We've not told anyone other than our children that we are on MJ. Threads on here show just how judgy and, sometimes, ill informed people are. As such, the unwanted comments from other people is something we'd rather avoid and, quite frankly, it's got bugger all to do with anyone else!

YellowStockings · 10/01/2026 16:11

Have a fabulous holiday @MooBaggage, very jealous of you escaping the freezing cold!

WeAllHaveWings · 10/01/2026 17:10

Saturday weigh in and (mostly) getting back into a routine this week has banished the small Christmas gain. 😊

End of week - 79 (5 x 2.5mg, 53 x 3.75mg, 23 x 3mg)

Losses (26H1) -2,2

Very chilly here today, made a huge pot of ham and lentil soup, and just had a bowl to warm me up 😋🥄. That's tonight dinner and a few lunches sorted out for the next couple of weeks!

@GlowGetter Stomach acid / acid reflux (coming off omeprazole, B12/Mg deficiencies) has been my boring story to make anyone who asks about my weight loss and/or why I am avoiding fizz/sugar/carbs/big portions and they very quickly wish they hadn't 🤣

Enjoy your holiday @MooBaggage !

QueenOfHiraeth · 10/01/2026 20:04

@Bunnyjo I have been surprised that I haven't encountered any ignorant opinions in real life. I told no-one at first but, since I started telling people, everyone has been very supportive and positive.
I was surprised this week (although I probably shouldn't have been) to see the most ignorance I have ever seen from a TikTok influencer who pushes herself a a fashion advisor for women over 50 talking about how it is cheating, people are just pigs and gluttons, use it as a quick fix and will regain all the weight when they stop. She is really irritating on a normal basis but I'm amazed that someone who claims to work in healthcare would post such ill-informed guff

Sam187 · 10/01/2026 23:28

Late to the party but Happy New Year folks.

Loved catching up on all of the fabulous posts, pics and NSVs. Everyone is smashing it.

@MooBaggage enjoy your extended holiday - so incredibly jealous.

I had a relatively quiet Xmas and new year, few more drinks and snacks than usual, but on the whole not too much damage. Gained around 2lbs and by wed this week was back to lower than pre-christmas and still in the double digit kg range. Buzzing.

Really starting to see the difference in myself now and having a dry Jan, a drink for partner bday in Feb then giving up again for lent. Goals in mind for the year so pushing on.

How are we feeling about the main stream media's reports of rapid weight gain on people coming off the WLIs?

YellowStockings · 11/01/2026 07:57

Week one weigh in

SW: 111.05kg
CW: 108.8kg
GW: 80kg

I know not every week will be like this but I’m still very pleased by the difference. I’ll take my second jab today, really hope I don’t feel as sick as I did last week.

I have to admit there is also a side of me that is still quite freaked out that I’m intentionally trying to lose weight after so many years of telling myself that I was working on body neutrality and “health at every size” instead. And I still believe those things are great (but my rising cholesterol and relatively high blood pressure and pre-pre-diabetic blood sugar levels told another story).

Every time I’ve ever lost a lot of weight it’s eventually piled back on, and I’m just hoping this is different. It’s scary thinking that this isn’t a crash diet, the aim is to become someone who eats less for the rest of my life (and that I’m never again going to just be able to “listen to what my body wants” to eat because that led to me gaining 30kg in the first place).

Ditsy79 · 11/01/2026 09:10

Congrats on your first week's loss, @YellowStockings - that's amazing! Your starting weight is pretty similar to mine when I started last year. I did feel quite sick for the first couple of weeks, but then it settled down.
Keep going - you're smashing it so far x

Thank you, that's reassuring. Just taken my second dose so we'll see soon enough!

How are we feeling about the main stream media's reports of rapid weight gain on people coming off the WLIs?

@Sam187 it’s not new news to the WLI communities,. Most that have hung about mumsnet boards, Reddit, Facebook for a couple of months or more etc are all painfully aware that maintaining cannot be passive and will be the hardest part of this journey, there has been a lot of discussion around it for a long time. We know obesity is a chronic disease which for many of us will mean remaining on the medication for many months or even long term so it does not relapse.

I guess anyone who doesn’t join any social media forums may be less informed.

Hopefully the scaremongering articles don’t put those most in need of life changing/saving treatment off, but instead encourages them to fully research the possible long term commitment they may need to make to it.

YellowStockings · 11/01/2026 09:50

"Hopefully the scaremongering articles don’t put those most in need of life changing/saving treatment off, but instead encourages them to fully research the possible long term commitment they may need to make to it."

@WeAllHaveWings this is why it took me so long to finally commit to trying WLI - I knew it would probably be the start of a very long journey if they ended up working well for me.

Sam187 · 11/01/2026 10:08

@WeAllHaveWings very true, I had the same concerns. It can be such a life changing tool, but these scaremongering articles will definitely put people off taking the first step. I find it really sad. Even on behalf of the people taking part in them really.

@YellowStockings well done on your first week loss. I occasionally still get a little nauseous if I've gone up. I've come to realise a lot of the time when it's because I'm thirsty. Just a little tip worth trying out ☺️

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 11/01/2026 10:09

@YellowStockings @Sam187 there are always negative reports cropping up but weight regain with any diet is always an issue which is why most of us on this board are in our current position. I started in Nov 24 and still going, MJ has made my life easier and has helped me stick to a diet and make necessary lifestyle changes. I recognise that I may well be on some sort of dose indefinitely hopefully a more affordable 5mg or 2.5mg dose. I would love to come off it completely but still have another 6lbs or so to go before starting a maintenance journey.

We are fortunate to be able to afford WLI as there are a lot who cant, so there is another health inequality divide opening up. The price hikes last year probably forced a number of users out, even though W is cheaper there long term affordability is a concern for some.

I focus on the experiences of users on this, monthly and maintenance threads.

WeAllHaveWings · 11/01/2026 10:18

@YellowStockings When I started over 18 months ago, for me it was an underdeveloped thought/concern, especially as at that time there were discussions around only being allowed the treatment for 2 years (no longer an issue), but after 30 years of trying and failing and my morbid obesity impacting my mobility I had to do something.

It was one of the main reasons I switched to Oushk back then as their old Facebook group was the main place the maintenance topic and those conversations were happening and everyone was learning together (imo it is no longer the same space with the same vibe as any conversation gets shut down by one or two of the Oushk fan club saying “ask your prescriber“)

Some of these trials are the outcome of people being switched to a placebo and not being in control of their treatment. Knowledge is power, we are the ones in control, and knowing the risk of relapse helps define our future plans and hopefully success.

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 11/01/2026 10:27

I forgot about the two year only limit. I am happy that that has been removed.

Even the Oushk circle thing isnt as good as it used to be. I have switched to Pharmulous for their lower prices or occasionally others if I see a good price.
