Those of you who have already lost a lot, can I ask you a question? I'm just curious - how much weight roughly did you lose before going down a dress size (if you can remember)? I'm struggling to remember what size I've been at various weights!

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 22/01/2026 14:50

@YellowStockings Took about two stone for me to go from a size 20 to size 18, then one stone to get to 16.

Overall 5 stone 10lbs has taken me from size 20 to size 12 in most stores. Size medium in Sweaty Betty. I am at shortie at 5ft 2

RobinEllacotStrike · 22/01/2026 15:03

@YellowStockings I can't really remember.
But I do recall being quite slow to go down sizes at first and then quite quick. But the paper towel analogy is true so ironically I went down dress sizes slowly when I was losing weight realtively quickly, and then went down dress sizes quicker as my weight loss slowed.

I've lost 48 kilos / 105lb.
UI started at 5'8/173cm & I am now almost 5'9" /175 cm
Started in sz 22 jeans and now wear sz 12 & 14 (with a belt)
started in sz 22 dresses - now in 16 for large bust & wider shoulder fit.

I'm still an XL in Sweaty Betty leggings - I was just thinking about them this morning. I'll probably always be an XL in Sweaty Betty - which just shows how ridiculous clothes sizing is, but there you have it.

It could well depend on your age - at 58 the belly and body shape is quite different from 28/38

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 22/01/2026 15:54

I hear you @RobinEllacotStrike I am definitely far fitter at 62 than I was at 52 and, if the truth be told, at 42.

In my friendship groups the age range is probably early 50s to late 60s. The 69 year old is a ultramarathon runner! I would say I have gone from the fattest to being average in terms of weight but I am well on my way to becoming one of the fittest.

My goal this year is fitness and weight maintenance once I hit my goal weight - about 4lbs to go so fingers crossed for sometime in February. Weight loss was my 2025 goal which thanks to MJ was achieved. I showed the ultramarathon runner a before-MJ photo and she couldn’t believe that I was that person.

HumBumBum · 22/01/2026 16:30

I read yesterdays update @MooBaggage and forgot you were on holiday - I was well impressed with topless swimming in the North Sea!!

Darlinghag · 22/01/2026 16:46

I keep saying I want to get yoga in my weekly routine.

I may not be ‘proper fat’ anymore - but i am WEAK. My fitness is awful. I can walk miles but not much else!! everytime @RobinEllacotStriketalks about it i always say ‘yes, lets do it’. I feel like i need to gain some fitness before i attend a class. But at the same time, attending a class feels like it would be better for me when holding myself accountable.

In other news; this week I fully upped my dose to 10mg. I’d been giving tiny increases from 8 for a while, but the last two weeks I had almost no day 1/2 suppression and strong food noise, so decided to ramp up.

it has worked - but i also know i have been making it hard by not tracking, snacking rather than eating and consuming way too much upf. The bump in dose has made it easier to get back on track and get my diet in order.

I’m now just shy of 2lbs from my low weight in November!

I have a new goal. 4.5 weeks until and event I have. I would like to be 12st 3. Which would mean losing 7.7lbs. Not impossible but still requires significant diligence!!

Some of my life stress issues have sorted themselves out a bit, so I feel more in control of things. I still have work, that is my biggest challenge, but it feels a little more manageable!

RobinEllacotStrike · 22/01/2026 17:01

just do it @Darlinghag - a good yoga class should accommodate every level of ability (unless its specifically an advanced or beginenrs class), and wherever you are at is the right place for yoga. What I mean is doing yoga as an absolute beginner is just as useful and powerful as doing yoga as someone who has been practising for years & can stand on their head.

I hear you right back @TheSlimmingPumpkin - I lived my life as a "natural" couch potato from a family of obese couch potatoes. It's really worth fighting against but I must always stay mindful that for most of 56 years or so "couch potato" has been my go to default status.

If I was an animal I'd be a bear - get fat all summer and sleep all winter. 😁

I really want to change this forever - and that means turning up for myself & my fitness and heatlh goals every day. I am following older women getting fit and staying fit on Instagram - like you (& me I guess) there are many older women getting fitter than they have ever been & loving it.

RobinEllacotStrike · 22/01/2026 17:04

I say "just do it" but finding time is hard.
I get to yoga daily, but i strugle to find time for a daily walk - especially mid winter.

When I say "I struggle" I mean I don't do it. And I really need to get more physical - not just for fitness but because my lighter stronger body really wants to move move. I have a desk job.

maz99 · 22/01/2026 23:01

Hi everyone!

Am I the only one who got the 'GREAT' discount from Numan? I don't see any posts on MN about it.

I received an email from them yesterday - it turns out that there was an error on their website when I ordered a 15mg pen (to maintain my order cycle) 10 days ago.

It was supposed to be £249 with a £110 (1st time customer) discount and I remember seeing £139 at the checkout but thought it had something to do with their subscription which I knew I was going to cancel... turns out that was the amount I was charged...! 😂Checked my credit card transactions and... yep... only paid £139... because the £110 discount was applied twice.

I was ill at the beginning of the week... nothing to do with MJ... ate some dodgy leftovers. OMG... the way I felt... and I thought about everyone that has/is experiencing this on MJ and thought that I would quit straight if I had this side effect! I haven't vomited in over 30 years.

I was so confused because of all of that, that I ended up jabbing (5mg from 10mg pen) 1 day early - after 4 days! 😮I feel fine though.

@YellowStockings I have lost just over 2 stone and I'm down 2 clothes sizes.

I think it's because I go to the gym - started a month before I started MJ.
I've lost 5.75 inches on my waist, 4.5 from my bust, 3 from hips, 4 from around my shoulders, 2 from my thighs, 1.5 from my calf

Just before Christmas, I found a pair of size 22 skinny jeans still with the label on - so that means they must've been too small or uncomfortable to wear when I bought them. They were loose, definitely not skinny - more like straight leg jeans and I couldn't wear them without a belt.

Anyway... my weight is still all over the place (daily weighing), but is now starting to trend downwards even though I've not been to the gym all week. Lost 0.5kg / 1.1lbs.
This week I've made a concerted effort with better quality meals and eating twice a day instead of once. Sleep is still crap though.

dimples76 · 23/01/2026 04:18

@RobinEllacotStrike your post about hot yoga really appealed to me. Unfortunately, there isn't a place within 30 mins drive of me.

I have been regularly going to the gym for almost 18 months (it's been about a year on wli). Yesterday I booked a session to revamp my program. It really helped me see how far I have come, fitness wise.

Took my first wegovy jab on Monday (0.5). Tuesday was not good - diarrhoea. But since then no side effects but also not really feeling any suppression. We shall see

GiveMeWordGames · 23/01/2026 11:25

Hope wegovy starts to work for you @dimples76 And great losses @maz99

@YellowStockings it took about 2-3 stone (starting from 17st 4) for me to start fitting comfortably into my old size 18 jeans but the truth is that the size 20s I was wearing at the start were creaking at the seams. On top I'd been wearing size 22 from Tu/BonMarche/Yours and even size 24 in some things, because I was avoiding anything being tight. I made it down to an 18 in a similar amount of time but with a more clingy look which I don't mind now, of course.

I shot past size 16 in trousers/jeans very fast and am now firmly a 14 in every brand I've tried so far. I always have been, and always will be, a bit top heavy/inverted triangle due to boobs and broad shoulders and it's anyone's guess whether I'm a 16 or 14 in any brand. And Zara can just fuck off forever, frankly. 🙂

Today I am officially HEALTHY, BMI-wise! 🎉I hit 11st 10 on the scales which is 24.9.

MooBaggage · 23/01/2026 11:49

@GiveMeWordGames Congratulations!!!! You've done it!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 Such a brilliant achievement - you must be chuffed to bits 😊

Well done - I hope you're going to celebrate this weekend!

Well done on the healthy BMI @GiveMeWordGames 💪🏻

My goal is just to reach a healthy BMI and then I will be satisfied to started weaning myself off MJ very slowly

Though I have a pen stash and I use the 5th dose I put in an order today just keep myself on the books so to speak. I opted for a 5mg this time so fingers crossed it’s the right decision but they have long expiry dates and I can always change dosing schedule if it doesn’t work out.

@GiveMeWordGames Congratulations!!!! You've done it!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 Such a brilliant achievement - you must be chuffed to bits 😊

Well done - I hope you're going to celebrate this weekend!

I think a glass or two of fizz* may well be had. 🍾

I'm going to keep on until I reach 11st 7 at least before I begin titrating down. And/or stretching out the gaps between doses, which is the other option as suggested by my pharmacist. Basically he admitted that because none of the trials really looked at this, people are finding their own way to make it work for them. Which we can see on here.

*this will almost certainly bob me back up a 1lb the next day but, meh. 😁

YellowStockings · 23/01/2026 13:07

Congratulations @GiveMeWordGames - so inspiring and a wonderful achievement, enjoy your celebratory fizz this weekend!

Thank you to all of you who replied about sizing and weight loss too, so interesting and a very nice thing to look forward to.

RobinEllacotStrike · 23/01/2026 13:55

how fabluous @GiveMeWordGames - so very well played!

I've been teetering on the precipice of "Healthy BMI" for a while now. Indeed as my height has shot up by 2cm I am "technically" just in the very top of healthy BMI range, but for BMI purposes I am sticking to my OG height - which leaves me still scraping the bottom of "overweight".

Oh these numbers games!!!

I'm having a drink & a picky tea tonight to watch the Traitors final with DD. Tomorrow I am going to London with a friend to visit some art & do lots of walking - I'm thinking about what to wear that will be a nice change from the jeans and thermals uniform I've been living in WFH. Really enjoying having more fun with clothing.

GiveMeWordGames · 23/01/2026 16:16

Thanks everyone, you marvellous, supportive lot. 😍

@RobinEllacotStrike your height gain (and other benefits, obviously) thanks to yoga is amazing. It's one thing I haven't started that I intended to, so that's a very good push to get on it, actually.

Having fun with clothes is one of the best things, it really is. I hope you decide on something fab to wear around London. I'm still amazed by how well things fit, when I've eyeballed them and thought "not a chance!" . My brain is waaaaay behind on perception.

YellowStockings · 23/01/2026 17:05

Well all this chat about clothes and outfits is well timed as I've just found out I've got a black tie thing to attend in mid-April. Usually I'd be panicking but all I can think is that, regardless of what I end up wearing - I own nothing suitable so will need to buy or rent something - I will (hopefully) be significantly smaller than I am now, even if it's just me who notices.

HumBumBum · 23/01/2026 22:49

Oh fabulous @YellowStockings I’d be having fun on Vinted trying lots

alltablenochairs · 23/01/2026 23:57

I've been a bit quiet on here of late. It would appear that having gastroenteritis/colitis/something equally disgusting (no-one is quite sure) is an astonishingly effective way to lose a lot of weight. Fast. However this is not to be recommended as I also ended up in hospital horrendously dehydrated and unable to absorb the usual meds I take. FML. Thankfully I am at home now.
This isnt a MJ side effect btw. If anything MJ tends to have the opposite effect.

@YellowStockings DH had a fancy awards do back in early October. I brought myself a red hot killer dress on vinted spending an absolutely horrific amount. I was wearing this dress come hell or high water despite the dress being a clothes size I hadn't worn since I was 16. Combined with a pair of tights, a equally frou frou cardigan and some totally OTT shoes it was good. Hopefully you manage to find something nice to wear. I did find myself grumping to DH that men have it easy- suit, shirt and tie and they're done.

I've lost 43kg/around 7 stone and I have dropped 4, possibly 5 dress sizes. I avoided sized clothes for a very long time so I am not entirely sure though.

AmberLime · 24/01/2026 09:35

It's my 6 months MJ-aversary this week. Nearly 5 stone lost since my first jab.

3 to 4 stone to go. I'll be 50 in September and for my birthday I intend to have a BMI under 25 and be able to run at least 5km.

An ambitious target is waist half my height. Im 5ft4 (64inches) and current waist is 40 inches, so get that to 32 or less. But the only time I previously got under BMI 25, when I was heavily into distance running and gym, my waist always remained bigger than half my height. I discovered that underneath the fat, my body is rectangular shaped with a thick waist. I'd like to know what weight I need to get down to in order to achieve waist half of height, because it's apparently a marker for overall health.

SW 17st 11
CW 12st 12.5
TW 9st-10st
NST: Outdoor running and waist 32 inches

YellowStockings · 24/01/2026 09:57

@alltablenochairs and @AmberLime - those are huge losses! Well done. So encouraging. I am gobsmacked that a person can lose five stone in six months.

@alltablenochairs glad you're back home, I hope they figure out what's going on soon and you start to feel better.

Bunnyjo · 24/01/2026 10:01

Hi all,

Well done on both the weight loss and NSVs! January is a long old month, and I just want it to be spring now - lighter nights and less grey days, please...

@MooBaggage, jealous of the weather you're enjoying. Please bring some warmth and sunshine back as the weather really is the pits here!
@GiveMeWordGames, huge, huge congratulations - what an achievement and you must be over the moon!

SW: 15st 5.5lb
CW: 12st 2lb
Loss: 45.5lb
Current BMI: 30.1
New Target Weight 1: 12st 1lb (overweight BMI)
New Target Weight 2: 10st 1lb (healthy BMI)
New Final Target Weight: Unsure - probably around 9st

So, I made a bit of an error when I originally calculated my target weights and, despite hitting my original 12st 2lb target, my BMI is still over 30 - oops!

Nevertheless, I have hit what I thought my first big target was a week earlier than I hoped. In terms of scale targets, I am hoping I can lost that last lb over the next 7 days then I really will be out of the obese category. Next thing I'd like to see is 11 something on the scales; there's some really quite satisfying about seeing a lower 'big' number for the first time! I've been thinking about my final target weight recently, whilst I definitely want to be in the healthy BMI range, I don't just want to scrape in, so I've gone with around 9st - it may well be half a stone above or below that, but it's a figure to aim for to begin with.

NSVs this week include lots of people at work remarking on my weight loss and fitting really comfortably in Jaeger Size M jumpers - DH bought me some for Xmas and they fit OK then, but I knew a few lbs more off and they'd fit much better and they really do. He also treated me to a The White Company bath robe in a M which also fits so well. I could never have imagined being in medium clothes a few months ago and that's such a boost. I think the NSVs have a greater effect on my overall mood than the scale ones. As such, I've picked myself up from the doldrums I was in last week and given myself a good talking to!

Hope everyone has a a lovely weekend and next time I post it may well be a new thread and also the longest month in the history of months might be over!

Zebracat · 24/01/2026 10:52

Well done @GiveMeWordGames , so impressive. @alltablenochairs , hope you’re feeling better now.
I weigh in kilos, but still celebrate in stones too. I thought I might hit 12 something this morning but the scales did the dirty on me. Still I lost a kilo this week and feel back on track after the longest Christmas ever.

Questions1234 · 24/01/2026 13:31

@AmberLime I hit the half waist/height target this week… 16 inches off my waist. Totally crazy when I stop to think about it. A amazing feeling. But interestingly my BMI is still 26. I can never remember it being under 25, but I guess it must have been as a child? Shows that it’s important to look at a range of measurements.

I’m experimenting with shifting my targets from weight loss to building fitness (am currently training for a Hyrox - a crazy idea a year ago). It all feels a bit of a learning process - health/fitness has been a big part of my goal from the beginning, but not sure how I feel about moving away from the weight loss. My BMI is still 26, but I’m now a size 10, with decent body comp (according to gym fancy scales), so guess I need to start thinking about it. But plenty of wobbly bits left! I now get what the maintenance threads talk about this being the hard part!

re: clothes… after years (decades?) of hiding in baggy comfy clothes, I’m loving exploring styles and colours, but I have no idea what looks good. I’m planning to book a John Lewis personal shopping experience for spring clothes, but in the meantime I’m going with - if I like the look and feel then it’s good?! Vinted is my friend…

@YellowStockings - I’m loving reading your updates as I see so much of my experience in yours! Especially the cautious excitement of what’s to come.

And to anyone starting out/early days/having a wobble… the bit of advice that stuck with me most from someone on here (@RobinEllacotStrike maybe?) was stick with it - slow and steady, just keep plodding on, and in six months time what will you regret more - keeping going, or stopping.

(Always forget this part - been on since Jan 25, lost 50kg, 16/21 inches off my waist/hips, and now able to hold my own in a crazy HYROX class!)
