I have lost 2 lbs this week but I know I haven’t eaten well. I’ve been out a lot and skipping meals etc which doesn’t feel healthy. I have a quieter week this week.

I’m very anxious at the moment and I’m not sure if it’s the time of year, or a side effect but I keep telling myself it’s just the drug. I’ve got beta blockers on prescription but been a bit scared to try them in case they work differently now I’m on MJ. I may try them.

How is everyone’s hair? I keep reading terrible threads about hair thinning at around the 3-4 month mark. This is also making me anxious but mine seems fine at the moment.

My hair is good (touch wood!) - I did start using Plantar 39 shampoo about 6 weeks ago which I think might be helping. This was because I want to stop using box dyes as my hair gets really brittle with them and I wanted something gentler for covering greys. But the caffeine in it is meant to be good for hair condition I think and certainly it feels a bit fuller and shinier. Also my loss has been quite slow (I’m coming up to 1 1/2 stone over 3 months) so maybe that helps.

Re: anxiety, I do find this time of year bad for it myself - I find the organisation side of Christmas very stressful and while I enjoy the socialising, it is quite emotionally draining. Plus the weather and lack of daylight! The one thing I have found helps is exercise - I joined a challenge to run a minimum of 25 mins a day every day in December back in 2023 and it made a big difference to how I felt so I did it again in 2024 and am doing it again this year. I think the exercise itself helps with mood but also getting outside every day, and the feeling of getting fitter as the month goes on is very nice - a contrast to what I would usually feel by the end of December! Could you do something similar - some kind of exercise or at least a walk outside every day?

Kazzaa46 · 14/12/2025 13:46

@outofofficeagain my hair is still ok. I’m 3 months in like most of us. Reports seem to indicate it happens around this time but I’ve seen some have it happen at 6 and even 12 months.

I’m really worried too. I take collagen and biotin daily and a multi vitamin/mineral but no idea if that will make a difference.

I hope your anxiety improves, as someone who has suffered this since entering perimenopause I know how awful it feels.

bluepaperwaspofbxl · 14/12/2025 19:58

@outofofficeagain My hair is still good. I’m careful tho and use serum and a rice protein shampoo bar.

SoUncertain · 15/12/2025 10:16

My hair has been falling out since the start of the year due to a highly stressful family situation (along with emotional eating of course!). I have thin hair now but can't really blame MJ for that! I am taking biotin and b12 and iron, but have only been doing so for about 3 weeks so not sure if it's helping or not yet. I could really do without losing any more though!!

Pinkbox · 15/12/2025 11:39

Mine has been falling out at every wash since I started in perimenopause, so it's hard to tell if MJ has had an effect.

wodantimbercoaster · 15/12/2025 11:44

I decided to take my blood pressure yesterday. I last took it a few days after starting my MJ adventure on 4th Sept. I've always had high-ish blood pressure since having children (and let's be honest, being quite fat!). I did it twice on both arms that day and my average from the readings then was 136/99. Yesterday I did the same again, twice on each arm and took the average. It came out as 130/84. So a marked difference. Got to be a good thing!

I plan on doing it again in 3 months time when I will have hopefully almost reached my 'loose' target weight. Will be interesting to see if it has gone down further.

I just thought I'd share that with you, because I found it really pleasing/uplifting so I'd recommend you do it too. It just really brought home that this is not just about looking better and wearing smaller sized jeans etc (which if we're honest, is probably the main reason lots of us are doing it) it's more importantly about our overall health. Literally life changing.

Ihateslugs · 15/12/2025 12:13

I’d forgotten about my blood pressure! I had it taken at my pre op assessment last week and it was the lowest it has ever been. The nurse was very pleased and also impressed at my heart rate. I’ve lost over 3 stone so far, I’m still overweight but as I’ve been on medication for blood pressure for years, i finally seem to have got it under control.

The only concern was my blood oxygen level, the nurse told me to breathe deeply to get it back up which I did, I think my anxiety about the operation made me forget to breathe!

Stompythedinosaur · 15/12/2025 14:01

I haven't had any probs with hair loss so far, which I'm grateful for! My blood pressure has been a bit low at times and I get a bit dizzy standing up, but that's the worst side affect I've had.

Sorry to hear about the anxiety. I hope the beta blockers help a bit. This is a hard time of year.

outofofficeagain · 15/12/2025 18:16

Well done on the blood pressure everyone. That’s amazing.

Today I almost thought I was going to get my wedding ring off, which hasn’t come off since about 2015! Not quite - but it’s close!

End of week 13! I've lost exactly 2 stone (12.7kg) 🎉I still have a long way to go, but I'm so glad I chose to start this treatment.

SW: 131.6kg
CW: 118.9kg

My BMI is now under 40 ❤️

Nice to read such a lot of positive changes this week! Well done on your health wins!!

My week 14 update:
I'm currently at 117.8kg, so down another kg since last week :) pretty happy with that as we had two Christmas meals out this week. 5mg is having huge suppression for the first half of the week then petering out for the second half, but still managing to deal with that.

I had a reaction to my normal swimming pool last week that is still healing. Not sure why as DD was fine. Pharmacist said I might be more sensitive to chlorine in the future as it's happened once. I REALLY hope this isn't the case as I was swimming twice a week and then taking DD to practice her swimming at the weekend too. It's the one exercise I really enjoy and am quite good at. :(

OneDayIWillLearn · 17/12/2025 07:01

@Ihateslugs hope the op went well yesterday, I was thinking of you.

Can anyone help me with how to manage mild/ moderate nausea?? For the last week this has started, not really sure why as I haven’t changed dose. It seems to get worse on an empty stomach but also on a full stomach, and the thought of 90% of food makes me feel worse. So I’m trying to eat smaller amounts of bland food but it’s a hard balancing act!

Wondering what else I can try….and whether this is a side effect or just a coincidence and something else is causing it (I do also have a bit of a cold so I suppose it could be related to that…)

Georgelassosthemoon · 17/12/2025 09:44

Ginger biscuits, ginger and lemon tea, crystallised ginger all help me a bit when I’m mildly queasy.

Kazzaa46 · 17/12/2025 10:03

@OneDayIWillLearn I had a period of nausea a couple of weeks ago that lasted 3 days. Not sure if it was the MJ or something I’d ate as I’ve never experienced it before. The one thing that seemed to help was drinking a protein meal replacement shake. I have a bag of protein works power and blend it with water. It seemed to really settle my stomach.

It absolutely could be your cold though. I’ve currently got that cough/cold that’s doing the rounds and it’s making me feel a bit sickly.

Kazzaa46 · 17/12/2025 10:11

Kazzaa46 · 17/12/2025 10:24

I wanted to take a moment to reflect on some of the benefits (and drawbacks) I’ve experienced over the last 13 weeks on MJ other than weight loss.

Benefits:
Perimenopause hot flushes have stopped
My SAD has been so much better this winter
No winter psoriasis this year
Skin not as dry (not sure if that’s the MJ or collagen)
I’m no longer getting dizzy spells/vertigo

The not so good:
Constipation although this has massively improved with time
Months 1 and 2 my sleep was affected and I woke up super early every day but luckily this has resolved now and no more sleep issues
I’ve lost my bum
I’ve noticed more lines on my face now the fat has reduced but I’m in my 40s so to be expected

Pinkbox · 17/12/2025 15:26

Well done @Kazzaa46- 2 stone is an exciting milestone! I‘ve just hit 1.5 stone loss and it’s funny how these round (?) numbers make us happier… I am just two weeks into 5mg so having quite a bit of nausea but thankfully not the constipation which came with starting MJ in Sept.
Being back in healthy weight must feel great!

Wow congratulations on getting to a healthy BMI!

Healthy BMI is a still a (good) stone away for me and for the last 6-8 weeks my loss has averaged 1lb/ week so I can’t see myself getting there anytime soon but it’s nice to know other people are managing it - it definitely spurs me on :-)

My next big goals are the stone and a half loss (which I’m very very nearly at) and getting back into the 11s - which I hoped would happen before the end of the year but is now looking unlikely as I’d need another 3-4lbs off for that.

Still, like all these milestones, it’ll come when it does and the main thing is always to be going in the right direction, however slowly!

bluepaperwaspofbxl · 17/12/2025 16:23

@OneDayIWillLearn Ginger all the way. In any form. Juiced is most effective for me, but tea and even ginger biscuits work too.
@Kazzaa46 That’s awesome! Well done :)

No change for me this week. I’ve had some of the worst migraines in years since Sunday and this will halt any progress I could have made as I can’t function, my gut totally stops and I want to graze when I can eat. Hopefully they’ll have calmed by Christmas, as we always host family and I need my game face on by early next week.
Will take 3.75mg tomorrow and probably dose again soon after Christmas Day.

Ihateslugs · 17/12/2025 18:33

Well, my knee replacement surgery went ahead but not without some drama! The afternoon before, I was told that one of the scans I had at pre op showed some issues with my heart so I was booked to see a cardiologist early doors before my scheduled op and have an ecg, then depending on findings, the op might be cancelled! You can imagine how badly I slept that night!

Luckily, the cardiologist was happy for the surgery to go ahead although the ecg has shown a slight narrowing of my aorta which will need monitoring through my gp. So I was admitted and went down to the theatre at around 4.30, starving since all I’d eaten was a small banana at 6am! I had a spinal injection, painless thankfully due to the expertise of the anaesthetist, and I opted for heavy sedation. I have vague memories of being wheeled into the theatre but then I woke up two hours later in recovery! Amazing really!

I won’t lie though and my leg is bloody painful, I have a aching back due the uncomfortable bed and my blood pressure and blood oxygen levels are very low so I’m drinking even more water than when on Mounjaro but until this afternoon had to use either a bed pan, commode or be accompanied to the bathroom - any dignity I had is now gone!

But I am cleared to go home tomorrow after a final physio session with a very sadistic woman! She is brutal with the exercises but I was warned that recovery was going to hurt so I forgive her!

Its onwards and upwards from here.

bluepaperwaspofbxl · 17/12/2025 19:11

@Ihateslugs Hope you’re lots better soon and pain free.

OneDayIWillLearn · 17/12/2025 20:31

@Ihateslugs thanks for the update and so pleased to hear you’ve got the first op out of the way. Wishing you all the best for the start of the recovery and for getting through the next few days xxx

Kazzaa46 · 17/12/2025 22:06

@Ihateslugs so happy it went well. It’ll be nice to get home tomorrow. I hope the recovery is speedy and not too painful

SoUncertain · 18/12/2025 00:41

Glad you got sorted @Ihateslugs! I know it's maybe a bit worrying, but it's good that they found the narrowing of your aorta as now they can keep an eye on it.

Hope the recovery goes well! 💐

Chopsy123 · 18/12/2025 08:14

@Ihateslugs Goodness, what an ordeal! Glad you’re slowly mending and hope you get home today. Look after yourself and at least there should be decent stuff on the TV to watch for the next couple of weeks. 😂
