Welcome to thread 14!

Link to our last thread here:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5394264-mounjaro-starters-nov-24-thread-13-the-one-where-we-are-lucky-to-end-our-best-summer-in-years-thinner-and-more-comfortable-in-our-own-skin?page=40

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we enter Autumn knowing that ALL of our Winter coats will do up 🥰

Join us here to celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones, maintenance and new stone brackets!

I’m on W47 D2 and on w2 of my second titrating down pen of 5.0mg

F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 9st 7.0lbs
GW 9st 0lb

Total loss so far 61.0 lbs (at 9st 6.0)

We recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for managing side effects, exercise tips, tips for maintenance, titrating up or down and we love a wellness/supplements/beauty/ style chat too 🥰

I posted this on the general WLI thread, but thought some of you who have/are switching to Wegovy might be interested:

I'm just catching up on New Scientist publications, so forgive me if you have seen this already. This is from a September publication re Wegovy.

Some research has been done about effectiveness Vs side effects of increasing doses in Wegovy. there were 3 groups, those on the normal range of doses, those who went up to further increased doses and those on a placebo.
On the whole those on the extra doses lost more, but experienced greater side effects. I thought the following 2 paragraphs were of most interest:

.......But there are drawbacks. While 61 per cent of those on the standard dose experienced gut-related side effects such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, this occurred in 71 per cent of those on a higher dose. Meanwhile, 40 per cent of those on a placebo experienced the same symptoms. That is because people can have such symptoms for reasons unrelated to the treatment, says Heisler.

......Furthermore, more than a fifth of those in the higher dose group experienced unpleasant and painful skin sensations known as dysesthesia. As a result, four participants discontinued the treatment. In contrast, just 6 per cent of those receiving the standard dose and only one person on the placebo had this side effect, none of whom stopped the treatment.

Thanks for sharing, that is really interesting.

🥳 which calendar did you go for?

It was a difficult decision between Harrods and Liberty, but Harrods had 10% off over the weekend so that seemed like a sign! Feeling rather naughty and self indulgent indeed but I am very excited about it. It’s now squirrelled away in the corner of my home office.

That Wegovy info is very interesting, @MagnoliaTreePetals. I am assuming that if I switch to it for maintenance I’d be on lower doses, but I guess I’ll see how my Hira call goes later this month. I’ve been very fortunate with gastric side effects on Mounjaro - just a little diarrhoea at the very beginning and when going up doses, which I found I could mitigate by splitting the dose into 2 halves over the week. Will be interesting to see what she recommends.

Now that I’m super close to GW, I have run into an unusual - how to put it? - quirk in my personal body shape journey. Succinctly, I have a genetic reason to have needed a double mastectomy and reconstruction several years ago, so I have “foobs.” They did not increase in size when my weight hit 30 BMI, so I was going up bra band sizes but not cup sizes, etc.

So as you might imagine, they are not losing any size as I lose weight, either. I have now realised that I was sized for them around 10kgs heavier than I am now, so while lots of very old clothes fit me now there is one particular spot where I am really not going to shrink.

So here in my early 50s, I suddenly have proportions verging on Baywatch in a way that I haven’t before. I look quite something in a bodycon knitted dress, but the age-appropriate face hovering over it is providing a bit of a contrast! It’s a whole new twist on “mutton dressed as lamb.” 😅

I too have lost bandwidth - but gone up a few cup sizes. I always thought I had big boobs naturally but they were in proportion with the bigger me - now it's norks ahoy!

jay55 · 02/10/2025 14:27

@RayonSunrise glad you’re taking your Barbie body in good humour.

My bras look so dainty now, I honestly can’t get used to seeing them, and they take up so much less drawer space. Where dresses take up the same regardless really.

Oh that’s actually made me lol! Not exactly a well known item on the Death Jabs Great List of Side Effects list, is it?

PinkArt · 02/10/2025 15:48

I have lost 5 stone but only one bra size so far. It's the one area that's not deflating and rapidly looking quite cartoonish!

LaGioiosanotLeviosa · 02/10/2025 16:27

I wish I was ‘Norks ahoy!’ It’s the one part of my body that is small and not in proportion with my fat tummy! I have a very large back size but small cups!
However, this has made me ponder if or when I lose a couple more stone whether they will suddenly look more normal because the rest of my body has shrunk??!
That would be an amazing death jab side effect!

Same as me! Huge ribcage. Going to try on a variety of bras at M&S tomorrow to see what might fit. I ordered some online and it’s not been that successful. Closest seems to be a 38B.

This has made me giggle!

I have found a use for the plastic bags are jabs come in. …. Vinted parcels. I refuse to buy more plastic bags so I have been using M&S/Weird Fish/ White Stuff plastic bags etc. Today the penny finally dropped that I should use my Oushk/Pharmulous bags - quick on the uptake me 😂😂😂. It might give a giggle/hope to any of my buyers recognising the plastic wrapper.

ps I have pancakes. Even at my largest my ‘bad boys’ could never be described as voluptuous.

Mounjaropen · 03/10/2025 07:39

Happy Friday everyone! (Although the weather is miserable here)

Update from me: my bouji kitchen island chandeliers are clean, my grout lines Crystal white and I’m ready to host my fancy dinner party tomorrow (two puddings!) with friends 😂.

Back to (or as near as dammit) my wedding weight of 132.2lbs - it does seem like a Herculean effort to get that 1-2lbs off that had I’d gained post wedding, but it’s about toning up from here on in. However, I’m eating more, on the weekly 5mg dose as I titrate down and I have noticed greater hair loss in the past 4 weeks or so which is odd. Protein levels are constant, I’m drinking plenty of water, I’m lifting weights, eating plenty of fresh fruit and veg, getting plenty of iron from greens and red meat, eating plenty of fresh fish and still taking the collagen. I think I’m going to get a Dr’s appointment to check my thyroid levels although they were normal earlier in the year. I think I’ve paid enough into the system to warrant one, and literally didn’t have time to go to the doctors for decades in my ‘lunch is for wimps’ mad corporate years 😏

I’ve also managed to get hold of the sold-out burgundy faux leather M&S trousers thanks to my post jab insomnia (I’ve ordered in a size 8 (!) and a 10) 🥳 and have ordered a satin burgundy shirt to go with them from mango which I’m going to wear tomorrow night. Both arrive today. I now have to find a device to make extra holes in my fancy Gucci belts because I’ve run out and I’m not buying new ones. Apparently Timpsons no longer offer the service after people started taking the piss out of their free service, claiming their belts were ruined and getting new ones. Sigh. There’s always a minority ruining it for the rest of us isn’t there?

Hope everyone has something fun planned for the weekend!

I was told to wear smaller bands when I was measured years ago at Rigby and Peller to get rid of the strain on my shoulders (I had some pretty impressive welts too) which worked a treat. It takes a while to get used to, but the strain on my shoulders was instantly relieved. If the band is riding up your back and not sitting level all the way around, you need to go down a band size and up a cup.

Oh bless you for having gone through that. I’ve had ridiculously sized boobs since I was 12. In the end and after years of wearing baggy clothes I just embraced it in my late teens and wore all of the bodycon. I had no problem getting dinner or drinks bought for me in my youth..lol. so I say wear all the bodycon with pride. It also worked to distract many men at work who assumed big boobs meant small brain. And who had never bothered to play chess…so never saw what was coming next 😉

@Mounjaropen your dinner party outfit and plans sound super glamorous, enjoy!

I think the last time I was at my current size 12ish I was a 32G but I seem to be annoyingly stuck at a 32HH. I too had an early start and was a DD at 14 attracting a lot of the wrong kind of attention from middle aged men, and just seemed to be a bit of a joke to boys my age. Sad times.

I keep my bras hung on hooks on the inside of my wardrobe door because they take up way too much room in drawers.

I've had a mad drop of 2lb on the scales this morning, compared to my usual very slow rate of loss now which is about 2lb a month.
I'm putting it down to yesterday being Yom Kippur which means no food or water from 5.30pm one day to 7.30pm the next. I've recorded it but guessing it will go up again.

MagnoliaTreePetals · 03/10/2025 08:36

It's really puzzling re the hair loss (in my case). I was doing fine until I got to my target weight, which I put down to having taken collagen for the past couple of years. However over the past 5 weeks it's been thinning like mad, and still is. Yet I am not losing any more weight.
I don't know if there is a total weight loss or perhaps % weight loss where the body suddenly reacts.
I have had hair loss episodes in the past, in particular post Covid, and it has always turned itself around and grown back in again. It's just that it takes quite a while.
Like you @Mounjaropen I have always focussed on a good balanced diet, I know I am getting all the nutrients I need, and I feel great. My weight loss has been steady, nothing dramatic apart from the first month. Is this just a WLI thing, or does it happen in general after a large weight loss?

Goldleafcat · 03/10/2025 09:10

Mounjaropen · 03/10/2025 07:53

Thank you this is helpful! I remember a vaguely traumatic experience at M&S when I 17 getting a bra measurement. They told me I was a 38AA 🤔🙄 Couldn't even find a bra in that size (and I actually had boobs, it’s not like there were calderas on my chest) and settled on a 36B at the time. I’ve been purely guessing ever since! Will see how it goes later…
