Mounjaropen · 23/09/2025 21:06

Welcome to thread 14!

Link to our last thread here:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5394264-mounjaro-starters-nov-24-thread-13-the-one-where-we-are-lucky-to-end-our-best-summer-in-years-thinner-and-more-comfortable-in-our-own-skin?page=40

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we enter Autumn knowing that ALL of our Winter coats will do up 🥰

Join us here to celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones, maintenance and new stone brackets!

I’m on W47 D2 and on w2 of my second titrating down pen of 5.0mg

F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 9st 7.0lbs
GW 9st 0lb

Total loss so far 61.0 lbs (at 9st 6.0)

We recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for managing side effects, exercise tips, tips for maintenance, titrating up or down and we love a wellness/supplements/beauty/ style chat too 🥰

Similar here - my engagement, wedding and eternity ring are too big. I need to get them resized but am nervous (I lost lots of weight 2018 -2020 but put quite a bit back on after).

I need to be brave.

I'm aware it's peak first world problems, it's just a problem I thought was a couple of stone away still. Everything has basically moved back up a finger but I'm sure I was lighter than I am now when they all started to move down.
And as you say, resizing feels like a big commitment.

What a cheeky sod! (The doctor)

Hope your health niggles are manageable.

So fabulous about your new wardrobe and job! Being lighter really changes our approach to clothing doesn’t it? I was living in leggings and tunics, and apart from during exercise, I can’t remember the last time I wore leggings in recent months!

My DH dug out a load of clothes I’d squirrelled away in the attic (and kind of forgot about 😱). So I now have a ridiculous amount of clothing which I am in process of trying to sort out (what fits, what’s too big, what I don’t like anymore, what I thought I would love but now it fits there is no way Jose etc). Listed some things on Vinted at the weekend and now I have a pile of stuff packaged up and ready to post later this morning! Will be travelling to the post office and two parcel shops 🤣

Ooh I am just off on a Vinted walk. Two parcel shops and the post office guarantees 10,000 steps for me - love it, especially on a sunny day like today.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 30/09/2025 17:18

My rings are very loose too. I’ve bought a very skinny ring to wear above my wedding and engagement rings and it holds them on.

I got a response from Med Express about my hair loss - will paste it here in case it helps anyone else. My hair wasn’t thinning pre-MJ though!

Thank you for your email and for providing detailed information about your current treatment and concerns. I understand your worry regarding hair thinning while tapering Mounjaro and the potential impact on your weight maintenance.

Hair thinning: GLP-1 receptor agonists like Mounjaro can sometimes contribute to hair shedding, although it is often multifactorial (weight loss itself, nutritional status, stress, or pre-existing hair conditions). Since you mention your hair was already thinning, this may be compounded by rapid weight loss.

Next steps:

  1. Continue tapering gradually: Your planned taper from 7.5 mg → 5 mg → 2.5 mg over several weeks is reasonable and safer than stopping abruptly, which may reduce the risk of rapid weight regain.
  2. Consider a hair-focused approach: You could discuss starting minoxidil with your GP or dermatologist to support hair regrowth. They can assess whether other factors (thyroid function, iron, vitamin D, etc.) should be checked.
  3. Monitor weight and hair: Keep track of your weight and hair changes during the taper. Nutritional support and adequate protein intake can help with hair preservation.
  4. Reassurance on weight maintenance:Most patients maintain weight if lifestyle habits are continued even after tapering or stopping the medication. Abrupt cessation is not usually necessary.
I recommend discussing your hair concerns with your GP, who can advise on minoxidil and any relevant investigations, while you safely complete your taper.

Please let me know if you’d like guidance on adjusting the taper schedule or monitoring strategies.

SerenePeer · 30/09/2025 20:48

Very loose rings here too. In fact, I managed to fling my wedding, engagement and eternity rings half way across the office last week simply by raising my hand to swipe a stray hair out of my eyes! Really need to do something before I lose them.

Novjaro · 30/09/2025 22:24

Loose rings here too, despite still having a ginormous 40 inch belly 😆

@Mounjaropen please tell me your method for grout cleaning. We made the mistake of having white grout on our floor nad it's a nightmare. Thanks.

@Mounjaropen please tell me your method for grout cleaning. We made the mistake of having white grout on our floor nad it's a nightmare. Thanks.

https://whiterockscleaning.com

I use this product. It’s like a tub of chalk that you add water to and then you then use it as a cleaner. I saw it at Grand Designs live years ago I was amazed at how many things it could clean (and it genuinely does except for painted surfaces and Marble). It’s amazing on things like plastic garden furniture, acrylic baths, Cleaning ceramic hobs etc. The tub itself last for ages. I then use grout brushes which you can buy on Amazon (they’re like a long nail brush with a narrow single file of brushes) as the tub depletes, you need to switch to a grout brush that has the bristles shaped into a point, but the brushhead itself is smaller to get into the tub. Last year I used the liquid product to see if it made any discernible difference, and TBH I think the original product is better. I use strong kitchen paper towel to wipe the product from the grout lines and then afterwards I buff the tiles with a steam cleaner. It does leave a chalky residue for a couple of days which more mopping usually resolve. However, if you have the sort of tile that has any form of relief in it rather than a flat surface you might find that the product settles in those, so a patch test first is probably a good idea. As this is non-toxic to pets and does not have any bleach in it I find it great to have because of the dog. I’ve tried all of the longhandled grout brushes that are electric, and found that all they do is splatter the product across the wider distance, and they don’t seem to have the power to lift the grime from the grout lines.

goodness, that was an essay, wasn’t it? 😆

I think a decent jeweller can add a couple of nobbles on the inside of your ring which reduces the size temporarily but can also be removed if the unthinkable happens… unfortunately, the Styles of my rings mean that they are unable to be altered, but happily I was blessed with my dad‘s hands so I’ve always had very long and slender fingers regardless of how big the rest of me got!

Morning everyone, just thought I'd do an update:

I'm 6 lbs from goal, titrating down is going really well (and not nearly as daunting as I previously thought), I came down from 7.5mg, did 5 doses on 5mg, and this week I've moved down to 2.5mg and plan to do 5 doses on that, then either stop completely to see how it goes 😳 or continue with 2.5mg.

Undecided which option to go for. I think I'm veering towards coming off completely and if the inflammation doesn't return and I can maintain a healthy BMI, then I'll be happy. I initially thought I'd prefer to stay on a low dose, but the, albeit, slight side effects of feeling freezing all the time and an incredibly dry mouth are beginning to become a pain.

And lastly, NSV's are like buses, I've had two this morning.....

  • I'm ringing that 5 stone klaxon loud and clear 🚨🔉(I've STS for the last 6 bloody weeks!!!)
  • After adding 6 years, the Renpho scales FINALLY shows my correct age 🥳💪

Keep going everyone, as we near our MJ anniversary 😊

RayonSunrise · 01/10/2025 08:42

Morning all! My rings are fitting nicely again - yet another reminder that I spent quite a bit of my life at this healthy weight before it all (or at least, I 😂) went pear-shaped.

I am very interested in the hair loss advice, @TooExtraImmatureCheddar. I’d not say mine is especially visible to others, but I certainly notice it in the shower. I’m hitting the collagen hard now (much nicer in yoghurt than in hot drinks, I’ve decided), but it’s too early to know if it’s helping. I’m not losing weight as hard/fast as I once did either, so SURELY that has to help too!

I am still inspired by your p.volve antics @Mounjaropen. I used to love Pilates and spent quite a bit on reformer classes, but keep balking at the set-up costs. How many bits of kit did you need starting off? Did you find you had to add things as you progressed?

I am also looking at LED masks, and have been lurking on the tweakments thread in Style & Beauty. I am not anti-tweakments at all, but I am often amazed at just how much some people invest in, and how early they start. I am in my early 50s and have done absolutely nothing beyond Mounjaro and teeth whitening. Different strokes and all that.

There are so many tweakment options out there aren’t there?! I’ve been lurking here and there too. I did brave Botox for the first time in May. I was a bit unsure at first, you get a heavy feeling in your forehead which takes some getting used to. I also became paranoid about checking what I looked like (but seemed ok in photos so I think I was just paranoid!).

The Botox is pretty much worn off now and I’m mulling over whether to have it again.

Did you see the Botox bashing thread a few days ago? What a bunch of unpleasant ladies. I couldn’t bring myself to comment but it seemed to be an exercise in criticising others for their beauty choices. Not sure if driven by jealousy, curiosity or faux concern (a bit like the faux concern around weight loss jabs). Honestly let people do what they want to do. Some people definitely take it too far but ultimately that’s on them.

I am thinking polynucleotides may be in my future (not for a while, still wary after the ‘polynucleotides gone wrong’ thread on Mumsnet) and cost is also a factor 😅

RayonSunrise · 01/10/2025 10:12

I’d not seen the Botox-bashing thread @Goldleafcat, but I’m not surprised. Style & Beauty has been getting more and more AIBU-like over the years. There’s hardly a thread now where someone doesn’t pop up to sneer at some particular style or item an OP was asking about, or to decry people caring about clothes/fashion/beauty at all. It boggles me, frankly - it’s a wide world with lots of room for different ways to approach things, if someone else want to chuck her skinnies for flares, get Botox, or fret over this season’s colours there’s no law that says everyone else has to do the same!

I will admit though that the sheer breadth of treatments and amount you can spend on them makes me feel slightly anxious about starting much if anything. Mounjaro drew me in because I had a version of “me” I wanted to get back to, but everything else is changing things that have been happening so slowly over time I’m not sure how much difference they would make, who to go to, what to get done, how much I would want to sink into it, etc. Botox is probably the obvious starter for someone like me, but then I’ll read a thread about how it’s better to start early to get the benefits and I think, “Oh well, that ship has sailed then.” 😁

MsRumpole · 01/10/2025 22:11

There's also a tendency for HRT threads to attract a sort of vicious concern troll going on about ageing gracefully, as if you can't do that and take HRT...

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 01/10/2025 22:36

Blimey so having HRT and MJ probably means I am going straight to hell according to the trolls! 😂

Goldleafcat · 02/10/2025 07:23

Haha I’m on MJ, HRT, have had Botox, and in the last week (for the first time ever) I’ve purchased a beauty advent calendar! 🔥

MagnoliaTreePetals · 02/10/2025 07:34

I posted this on the general WLI thread, but thought some of you who have/are switching to Wegovy might be interested:

I'm just catching up on New Scientist publications, so forgive me if you have seen this already. This is from a September publication re Wegovy.

Some research has been done about effectiveness Vs side effects of increasing doses in Wegovy. there were 3 groups, those on the normal range of doses, those who went up to further increased doses and those on a placebo.
On the whole those on the extra doses lost more, but experienced greater side effects. I thought the following 2 paragraphs were of most interest:

.......But there are drawbacks. While 61 per cent of those on the standard dose experienced gut-related side effects such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, this occurred in 71 per cent of those on a higher dose. Meanwhile, 40 per cent of those on a placebo experienced the same symptoms. That is because people can have such symptoms for reasons unrelated to the treatment, says Heisler.

......Furthermore, more than a fifth of those in the higher dose group experienced unpleasant and painful skin sensations known as dysesthesia. As a result, four participants discontinued the treatment. In contrast, just 6 per cent of those receiving the standard dose and only one person on the placebo had this side effect, none of whom stopped the treatment.

On the pvolve question, I bought the total transformation bundle (basically everything) at the end of last November. It included a year’s subscription. I then added the cushion mat in January. There was no more kit I could buy at the time. I think the whole thing was £675 ( I asked their affiliate partner, Healf to match the US Black Friday deal) There are now a couple of extra products which I’m going to buy this month when I establish if I can buy them in the UK or need to get them from the US ( different body bands). Another poster last year bought lightly used kit on vinted so check that too. I aim to have completed 250 classes for my 2nd November anniversary (which is also my mounjaroversary) but I can honestly say it’s been revolutionary for my shape and mobility. You do need hand held weights at home too (8, 10, 12 & 15lbs). If I add in the cost of the cushion mat (£50 with a discount from Healf) it will work out at £2.90 per class which is significantly cheaper than either shared mat or reformer Pilates classes where I live and the affordability has meant i’ve done more per week my average will be 5 x pw). You can also work out in their live streamed studio and actually get a class taught by St Jennifer of Anniston’s personal trainers too. I’ve really loved it. Will definitely renew my membership. Class lengths are anywhere from 10mins to just under an hour and they take different forms - some are weight training, some are sculpting, some are cardio etc. if you follow the suggested calendars you don’t even need to decide what to pick. I’d recommend using the introduction to the total transformation bundle as a starting point as you are shown how to use each piece of equipment properly and understand what your form should look like.

I think you do you but don’t get swept up in ‘preventative’ tweakments. I went to the local go-to Botox chap and he said ‘I’ll take your money, but you don’t need it’. Agree some threads on S&B are just bizarre.

I’d do some research on whether or not Botox is actually preventative. And definitely go to a registered Dr or Nurse - there is a ton of counterfeit product out there.

The S&B section used to be quite pleasant and helpful. Now it appears to be an extension of AIBU for some reason.

There is one poster in that section who seems to think any tests ordered by an actual doctor are not necessary. My Dr ran a barrage of tests - bloods, smears, scans etc before prescribing HRT which I thought seemed eminently sensible. And was the protocol for my area trust at the time. Not so according to this one particular poster who advised that it was outrageous that NHS money had been spend on ‘unnecessary and invasive tests’ like she knew my actual medical history and was at the consultation 🤔 was utterly bizarre.
